Can Sonic outrun a virus that turns everyone into robotic zombies? The world has fallen to the Metal Virus, a manufactured plague that transforms all it infects into mechanized "Zombots" under Dr. Eggman's command. Even Sonic the Hedgehog has been infected, though his speed has allowed him to keep the virus at bay. Now, with the population more infected than not and the virus constantly spreading, Sonic and his friends in the Restoration launch a desperate plan!

But, when things go from bad to worse, our heroes find themselves on Angel Island, the last safe place on the planet. Sonic and his remaining allies have no choice but to form an alliance with their old foe Dr. Eggman to defeat the Deadly Six and reclaim the Chaos Emeralds in a last-ditch effort to save everything.

Collects issues #21–32 and the 2020 Annual from volumes 6–8 (The Last Minute, All or Nothing, and Out of the Blue) of the Sonic the Hedgehog series.

in this third volume of IDW’s sonic the hedgehog series, we wrap up the zombot arc as sonic and his friends put aside their differences with dr. eggman. i liked the various perspectives we got from different side characters. also, shadow’s back in the game, which i am so here for! i can’t wait to see what happens in the next volume.

It Was Amazing 🤩
-★★★★★- (5.00/5.00)
My Grading Score = 100% (S)

The IDW Collection Volume 3 once again, like the previous volume collections, showcases the pinnacle of Sonic content you can own and consume. Everything in this volume is high quality, well drawn, and well written. There is nothing more to say.

Verdict
This continues the masterpiece, which is the IDW iteration of Sonic the Hedgehog. As stated in the previous review, you don't get any better than this for Sonic. I still highly recommend it. It is still amazing.

Written well but I don’t feel we progressed much in this volume. It wrapped up the disaster started in the previous volume but repeated a few things from the first book and wasted a lot of time giving different perspectives of the same story to connect characters back up.
Overall I enjoyed it but I hope the next volume is more inspired than this one.

The IDW Sonic series continues to wow me, I wish I had started reading when it began but I think I could be forgiven after they ended my favorite childhood comic, the Archie Sonic series, in the annoying way they did. I give kudos for them having the Metal Virus storyline be almost 16 issues, not a lot of comic series would be willing to put that much time into one story but it really allows some depth to it and some great beats. I now am excitedly anticipating Vol. 4 of the IDW collections as this is such a consistently good comic series. More Shadow tho pls.

with this, we wrap up the metal virus saga with aplomb from sonic at the end.

a whirlwind of despair and hope coming together at the final battle to deliver a good end for our heroes! glad to see silver got some spotlight and blaze too! enjoyed more of sonic's character progression as he faced it all on the brink. a standout moment to me was the interactions between sonic and metal sonic (also im looking at that 2020 annual about metal sonic titled Metal Sonic in Reflections... so good)

hope to see more silver and blaze, as well as shadow, especially since he was put out early on in the fight with the metal virus last volume and after his small introspection at the end... he owes one to sonic

An excellent conclusion to the Metal Virus saga. It makes good use of zombie story tropes and norms and appropriates them into this world for a story. As losses mount and the odds become increasingly bleak, the characters show the stress and toll it is taking on them. The 2020 Annual does a superb job of showing just how expansive the Metal Virus is.

Writer Ian Flynn's characterizations and dialogue are spot on as the characters are pushed to their breaking point, and the artwork is equal parts colourful and bombastic, or muted and subdued as the story calls for.

While zombie apocalypse stories and Sonic the Hedgehog might seem like an unlikely match, this proves otherwise.

This was fantastic! Loved the conclusion to the Metal Virus storyline and how everybody helped out. Reminded me a lot of Avengers: Endgame. Laughing my stupid tired laugh at this alt cover art where there’s wanted posters of the bad guys in the series. Dr. Starline’s and the Babylon Rogues’ are especially hilarious. Starline’s says “Wanted: For being a weird creep” and then goes on to describe him as an Eggman fanboy. Pretty much sums him up lol. 😂 The Rogues’ says “Unwanted! Stop stealing stuff you big dumb bird jerks!” I just thought that was hilarious.

Just...wow! This book brings the terrifying zombie robot arc to maximum overdrive. Sonic and crew have their backs against the wall. They've lost most of their allies and resources. They make deals with the devil they know. When I say I had to walk away and take a breather, I ONE HUNDRED PERCENT took a long walk. This all leads to a wild conclusion which sets up promising things for the future.

Get in while the getting is good! You will not regret purchasing this collection.

I loved the previous volume, but this one just kind of felt like it dragged. The Metal Virus Saga was just a bit too long, IMHO. One of the main problems I had was when they just decided to end it, it seemed like they crammed a bunch of story in quickly when they could've stretched that over the previous issues which seemed very empty comparatively.

This collection marks the end of the Metal Virus saga and it’s pretty solid for the most part. They definitely could have cut out the whole “Sonic getting amnesia” subplot and the final fight between Super Sonic and Zavok felt a little anti climactic. Everything between Gemeral and Cream is really sweet though.

Absolutely the best. Sonics is humanised to not only a chill guy that likes to run but an actual hero that has to carry the heavy burden of the world on his shoulders, not changing sonics character into something he isn’t, but pushing the boundaries of what has been done before to mold a character from static to deep.

My fave so far

5⭐️

The conclusion to the metal virus arc was as epic as I expected it to be. These comics are genuinely great, and I love the match up of characters. I can't wait to read the (atp) final two collections.
