Mixture of powerful, funny and relatable.

I've not read any of the collaborations between these two poets before, but I imagine they are a lot of fun attending school visits.

The general theme of 'Scared' works well, bringing some very different poems under one umbrella. There's also a theme of 'metaphor' heavily sprinkled throughout that teachers will love, plenty of examples to help students create their own metaphor-ful pieces.

There are some moving poems - about bullies, being Gifted, and one about divorce that got me. Black Hole is a great shape poem. I laughed at One Breaktime I Got Married and Lullaby was a brilliant end to the collection, I might read that to my boys one evening!

Nicely illustrated too, this can be read as a whole but really will serve its purpose told in small segments or used in UKS2/LKS3 classrooms. I'd definitely invite this pair in to talk to my classes.

For ages 9-14.
