One of the finest - and funniest - writers in comics spins amazing tales of Spider-Man! As one of the key creators in Spidey's "Brand New Day" era, Joe Kelly crafted a series of memorable adventures for the wall-crawler - including a clash with crime bosses Hammerhead and Mister Negative, and a romantic reunion with the Black Cat! Peter's pal Harry Osborn suits up as the American Son! Kraven's family embarks on a grim hunt - and it's spider season! But when Peter Parker's nonstop life pits him against Baron Zemo, the results will be downright savage! Plus: More Spidey tales as only Kelly can write them, including a riotous team-up with Deadpool! Collecting AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (1999) #575-576, #595-599, #606-607, #611, #617 and #625; NON-STOP SPIDER-MAN #1-5; SAVAGE SPIDER-MAN #1-5; MARVEL FANFARE (1996) #2-3; and WEBSPINNERS: TALES OF SPIDER-MAN #7-9 - plus material from AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: EXTRA! #1 and #3; AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (1999) #577, #600, #612, #634-637 and #647; and SPIDER-MAN: GRIM HUNT - THE KRAVEN SAGA.
Wanted to go higher for this but couldn't. The Brand New Day stuff is really good, solid to great art, good storytelling through Grim Hunt, Kelly was always my favorite of the BND writers. What follows is a hodgepodge of 90s stuff and Non-Stop Spider-Man and its sequel. The former is cromulent at best, and the latter has some really cool Chris Bachalo art, but the writing's very questionable. This was a good pickup for me as someone who didn't care for giant chunks of Brand New Day, but if you're looking for something more complete or sequential, it likely won't work for you.
This is a creator based omnibus. None of these stories were actually captivating or intriguing in the least, no depth and no actual story. Just a bunch of shit slapped together with poor writing. The art sucked as well. Not for me.
I think Kelly writes a decent Spiderman but i have alot of issues with this omnibus. Some stuff at the beginning i had already in another omnibus, and thats always a bummer to me already. I love to read omnis that are a huge chunk of stories of a run, but here its alot of single issues making this not really the most easy to read book. Later on there is some consistency with bigger arcs like Grim Hunt focusing on Kraven the Hunter, Non stop Spider-Man, a high octane fast as hell story and Savage Spider-Man, not all stellar but happy to read some continuity.. The book ends with Webspinners, some really older issues, but ok, and some Marvel Fanfare issues, one not even including Peter Parker but The Hulk and Wolverine, why they included this ?! I really dont get it. An ok Spidey omnibus, but i really dont get the point of stucking this al together to make a omnibus to be honest.
