War is raging and Wolf State is close to breaking. In order to keep fighting, conscription is lowered to the age of twelve.
Kass, an officer struggling to live with the atrocities inflicted by his side, knows there is only one way to save his younger brother from the front lines - desertion. But their flight to freedom is quickly derailed when Kass discovers his brother, twisted by state propaganda, is unwilling to run from his duty to fight.
With the war closing in and the rumors of an experimental enemy weapon about to be unleashed, Kass must resort to more desperate measures where fighting may be the only way to save them both.
A thrilling dystopian story that races to an unexpected finale.
This is an excellent debut from a new author. It’s a fast paced, well developed plot with very likeable characters that you want to root for throughout. As these young protagonists navigate the horrors of conscripted warfare, they must also face up to their own moral dilemmas and internal conflicts. At it’s core is the heartfelt relationship between two brothers and the importance of family in a dark, dystopian world at war. A real page turner, it would make a great movie. Highly recommend.
A really enjoyable dystopian war story. The plot is propulsive, barely giving you or the protagonist a moment to breathe before the next crisis arises. Highly recommended for fans of Divergent or Red Rising.
