Hawthorn Creek: A Collection of Secrets

Rate this book
Hawthorn Creek. Charming town. Friendly people. But everyone has a secret.

Hawthorn Creek, Missouri is like many other small towns in the Midwest. The citizens are mostly friendly. Everyone knows each other. Gossip is exchanged at the usual gathering places. A local festival is a highlight of the year. However, upon closer examination, this little town has more than its share of secrets.

A police chief strives to regain his honor. An elderly man overcomes his hatred of a neighborhood cat. A visiting TV production crew provokes vicious quarrels. An aging couple come to grips with their fading mental prowess. The only stoplight in town malfunctions, triggering unexpected chaos.

A delightful collection of short stories, each as unique as its author. Some are touching and sweet. Some are filled with otherworldly surprises. Some involve treachery and danger. But all of them take place in Hawthorn Creek, a small town just like any other. Or is it?

A fun anthology

I don't usually read collections of short stories but I like Stan Smith and when I found out this was various authors from his Missouri writers group, I decided to give it a try. I ended up really enjoying it. it's fun that the stories are all set in the same town and you see some of the same characters in different stories. It was a really fun read and had some nice queer representation too!

Lots of fun inside

Full of unique, and fascinating stories abound in this anthology surrounding the fictional town of Hawthorn Creek. One of my favorite things is the reoccurring characters and places that pop up throughout the stories.

Loved it!

I don’t know exactly what I expected, but this collection of stories (related - kinda) was really good! Characters would pop up from a story several stories back and it was someone you actually remembered. The characters ARE characters…lotsa personality. Definitely recommend.
