Bailey Brothers #5

Chasing Her Fire

Rate this book
Listening Length 10 hours and 31 minutes

Sexy firefighter Logan Bailey is an expert at putting the wet stuff on the hot stuff—on and off duty. But he just did the unthinkable, and it wasn’t trading in his tube socks. He slept with his nemesis. His mortal enemy. The crazy redhead he loves to hate. Cara Goulding.

And no matter how much he wants to lie to himself, he has to admit, it was mind-blowing.

Cara will not be tempted by the one night she spent with prince dickhead—even if her traitorous body remembers every earth-shattering moment. It was a mistake and she’s stronger than that. She’ll just keep avoiding him and pretend it didn’t happen.

But the feuding small town of Tilikum might not be big enough for the both of them. Avoiding each other isn’t working. And with every moment they’re forced to spend together, the sparks get hotter, the flames grow brighter, and the tension borders on unbearable.

Until they both reach their breaking point and their fiery relationship explodes.

Author’s note: a sexy firefighter and the sassy redhead who drives him crazy. All the banter, delicious tension, a heartwarming family, and Kindle-melting steam. Enemies to lovers is as hot as it gets and these two are FIRE.

The Bailey Brothers is meant to be read in order. Start with book one, Protecting You.

I never would have purchased this book if I knew it was an accidental pregnancy story… but unfortunately for me, I bought it while I blindly ordered the whole series after only quickly skimming each synopsis - and that trope was not mentioned anywhere… so I had no idea until I started reading. — and once I realized the actual plot of the story (no thanks to the actual synopsis - which only job is to tell me what to expect from the story… 🤦🏼‍♀️) it was either DNF (because I just know I don’t like those types of storylines) and spend my night on tiktok (because I know myself, and I wasn’t gonna start a new book so late into the day) or just read it and try to enjoy it for what it was…. and I went with the latter so that I don’t feel as wasteful of having purchased it without doing my own due diligence. —— and to my surprise, it wasn’t the worst time ever… but I still am not a fan of the trope and now feel even more passionately about my stance on avoiding it when possible.

What sucks is that I was really excited for this couples story ever since I met them early on in the series. I liked both of them a lot as individuals and loved their banter any time we got a scene with the two of them… and I was really sad that they ended up with this trope because I wish I could have seen their story play out naturally without the pregnancy being the push that brought them together.

And then what sucks even more is that for the first 40 pages or so… we did get to see a tiny bit of where their story could have gone if it just played itself out naturally after that one drunken night… but then she realized she’s pregnant and the story turned itself into a classic accidental pregnancy where he turns into a sweetie pie and they just go through the motions of her being pregnant and him wanting to be there for her and then they slowly start to catch feelings for each other even though they fight and banter all the time.

So I think for what it was… it was done well. There were a lot of really cute moments where Logan was really adorable, there were a lot of times where we still got that banter that initially drew me to the couple, and I even appreciated how the third act drama whatever you wanna call it moment wasn’t a classic third act breakup or overdramatic fight (even though the whole ‘enemies to lovers’ thing ended up having the type of story most books with that trope ends up getting which always makes me roll my eyes a little…but it’s fine). Andddd I also enjoyed seeing all of the characters from the other books as well as more development in the town feud/treasure mystery overarching series plot-line.

So even though I never read these types of stories to have much to compare it to… I think it was a really good one for an accidental pregnancy trope. — but it’s still not my type of story and I don’t like the trope for a reason… so I only enjoyed it so much (and I still wish this couple got a different plot-line other than the one they did… but wtvrrr).

Enemies to Lovers
Small Town
Surprise Pregnancy

Chasing Her Fire is Logan story. I love Logan. He is the funny one. The one who always be a prankster. Miss Kingsley done his story justice. The main theme is enemy to lover. Still with all goofness.

It has been a while since I picked up Bailey's brothers series. I am glad I picked up this book. Miss Kingsley continuing the mystery og the hidden treasure that started from book 1.

Love this book.

“She’d gone from the woman I loved to hate to the most important person on the planet.”

I fell in love with the idea of Logan and Cara when they would fight with each other from the beginning of the series. I knew that beneath that animosity there was a fire fueled by something other than hate. There are some surprises woven into their story that I will not spoil; so, I am going to do my best to let you know the things I loved without ruining the experience of discovery for the next reader. Their story is written in first person from a dual POV.

Cara has always been fiery, sassy, and protective of those she loves. I adored getting her side of her sisterly love relationship with Grace. I loved getting to know about her past, her family, and her baggage. The author took her character from one I really enjoyed, to one I truly loved. Logan has always been the jokester. He has questionable fashion sense and an incredible dictionary of broisms that have always made me laugh. I have always loved that he was secure in himself and didn’t really care about societal expectations. I really enjoyed seeing the softer side of him in this story. All the Bailey men are amazing and have big hearts and I really loved getting to see Logan’s in this book. I also loved getting to see inside his relationship with Levi. I love the twin connection and the respect and love they have for each other despite their differences in personality.

Logan and Cara have a passionate love story. There is a lot of heat between them in everything from arguments in public to private times in the bedroom. (I am talking kindle-melting heat here, folks.) I really appreciated that it took time to let down their defenses and expose vulnerabilities to each other. I swooned completely at the tenderness and depth of love and respect they develop in their relationship. I am telling you now: This book has ALL. THE. FEELS.

As always, I adore Gram. I loved seeing the Bailey family together with their girls. I especially enjoyed seeing Asher: healed, tender, and happy with Grace. (I’m not crying, you’re crying.) The small-town characters are amusing, the squirrels cause typical trouble, and the mystery of the Haven-Bailey feud continues. Readers are given a few more clues and I am looking forward to the final answers and Levi’s HEA in the next book.

I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book.

Oh Logan! The joker of the Bailey pack; he finally stepped up when it was most important and showed everyone what an absolute sweetheart he was.
I loved Cara for him; Right from book 2 when she arrived in Tilinkum, I couldn’t see him with anyone else. He was the calm to her storm and he was the protector she’d never had in her life. They were such an amazing couple.

This series has everything you would want from a Small-town romance; there’s friends-to-lovers, surprise pregnancy, enemies-to-lovers, grumpy/sunshine and boss’ daughter. Claire Kingsley has created this incredible world that I had no clue even existed until a few days ago; now I’m in love with all these characters and never want to leave. I honestly can’t recommend it highly enough.

1.5

Whew, that was utterly disappointing. Kingsley phoned this one in on a rotary device. Damn.

All tell, remarkably little showing. No chemistry between the couple that had searing chemistry in every other book but their own. Their romance and relationship is not credible in this book, nor is it saved by all the sex. The abundant sex scenes became repetitive and were skim-worthy. As for the thin plot, it’s a weird story that sets up the last book. Except, the attempt to ratchet up tension for said last book was obvious and ill fitting. I think this author loses momentum and her mojo the deeper she gets into a series.

Also, calling the the child of an abusive mother “crazy” for the entire book is ignorant and it’s poor writing to keep telling us Cara’s crazy without actually showing such.

The best thing about this book is the cover image. That’s a good Logan. Everything else was a miss. And the old, magical Native American stereotype is racist and ridiculous. The names Grams gives the girls have become trite and the harping on it was overdone in this book.

The only redeeming parts were Cara finally, finally standing up to her mother and her developing her artistry. Everything else...nah. I know we’re in a pandemic and people’s writing can’t help but be affected, but this ain’t it.

~~ “Thank you for getting drunk and fucking me and accidentally knocking me up. I’m really glad it happened.”
“Me too, Tiger. I’m glad it happened too.”

~~ “I’m not going to be the next person who fails you. I’ll never hurt you and I’ll never leave you because you’re mine.”

<><> Story Overview <><>

^^ ~ Logan and Cara - they are like oil and vinegar. They don’t like to be around each other and have had an antagonistic relationship from the very beginning of this series.

~~ “I couldn’t remember the last time Cara and I had a conversation that wasn’t entirely made up of insults. Had we ever?”

A drunken one night stand creates an “oops”.
~~Grace: “But you hate him.”
~~Cara: “Yeah, well, apparently drunk me didn’t hate his dick.”

The pregnancy forces these two to define a new type of relationship and learn how to work together. Their new proximity allows them to tear down some walls and actually be honest about their feelings.

~~ “I guess if someone had to knock me up, it could have been worse.” Wait, had I really said that? Worse than Logan Bailey? Yeah, I’d said it. And meant it. I had no idea what was happening to me.”

~~ “I could still make a list of a thousand ways she pissed me off. But every glimpse I got of the real Cara—every moment of honesty, however brief—was a crack in my resolve to hate her. Truthfully, I hadn’t hated her since I’d found out she was having my baby. I could even admit that sometimes I kind of liked her.”

~~ “All those years I’d spent hating Logan Bailey, I hadn’t hated him at all. It had taken a night of drunk sex and an unplanned pregnancy to open my eyes to what had been in front of me all along.”

<><> Characters <><>
Hero: Logan Bailey (aka Raven)
~ Age: 28
~ Occupation: firefighter

~ Logan and his identical twin Levi are the 3rd and 4th brothers in the Bailey family. Logan has a bit of quirkiness to him. He has “bro-isms” (see below) that pop out of his mouth and his fashion sense (why must he wear knee high tube socks all the time?????) is less than ideal. But he’s lovable and loyal.

* The following words/phrases were used to describe Logan: always looks like he’s up to something, obnoxious, a good man, sexy, charming, utterly infuriating, had a calming presence, protective, stubborn, funny, heroic

Logan finds ways to fit “bro” into words when he’s talking with his brothers. It makes him a very unique and quirky character.
Example:
Logan: “Hey, brofa.”
Gavin: “Brofa?”
Logan: “Bro on a sofa.”

Here are some of his bro-isms he’s used throughout the series: brosaurus, bronoculars, broritos. brotato, bropocalypse, brodeo, broca colas, neighbros, bronut, brofoot, brodozer, brotato chip, brodentical, baked brotato (he said this to Gavin when Gavin got pretty much cooked in a wildfire), broller coaster, brocamole, broagie, cheesebrogers, rice-a-broni, brosaster, lambrogini

~ “I know you think I’m an asshole, but you could have a tiny shred of faith that I’m man enough to do what’s right. I won’t walk out on you.”

Heroine: Cara Goulding (aka Tiger)
~ Age: 29
~ Occupation: social media influencer, also has a small photography hobby

~ Cara is BFF’s with Grace (heroine from book 1 & 2) and has been living in Tilikum for close to a decade. Cara comes from Hollywood royalty and has a toxic mother who raised her poorly. Her dad has not been in the picture all her life.
Cara is extremely protective of those she loves or respects. In other books she seemed to have an unlimited supply of money. In this book, thanks to her mother’s spending habits, that money is dwindling fast.

* The following words/phrases were used to describe Cara: no idea how to actually love someone, has no filter, loves to say provocative things to surprise people, knows she’s not wife material, a bit of a mess, crazy redhead, misunderstood, a wildcat, the eccentric rich girl, an outsider, scared, vulnerable, always waiting for the other shoe to drop, loves fiercely

~ “I was the epitome of the spoiled little rich girl. I’d grown up wealthy and inherited enough money that I’d never had a real job. I lived off my inheritance and the money I made as an influencer on social media.”

<><> A Few Thoughts <><>
^^ ~ from the moment Logan found out about the baby he was all in. He didn’t blame, get upset, throw a tantrum - nada. Just said - ok, well here we go. I loved his overall attitude. He stepped up and his swoony factor was off the charts as he took care of Cara’s every need during the pregnancy.
~~ “I have to warn you that the baby has very strong opinions about food smells.”
“Okay. How about we park downtown and give some restaurants the sniff test. When you smell one you and the baby like, we’ll go in.”

^^ ~ He even got her mini shaped meatloafs for her bday. Awwww
~~ “He’d ordered mini meatloaves, mashed potatoes in little cups, and the Caboose’s signature gravy for dipping. There was other food too, but I ignored it in favor of that stupid, magical meatloaf our kid seemed to love so much.”

^^ ~ Cara had so much love to give and my heart ached for the way her mom treated her. Yes, she was a tiny bit crazy, but she was so generous and she just needed to find the right home for her heart.

^^ ~ drawing attention away from the fact Cara was buying a pregnancy test - 🤫🤭…
~~ “We should buy as many embarrassing products as we can find. If we’re both holding tampons, yeast infection creams, douches, and adult diapers, even the biggest gossipy bitches will avert their eyes.
So we walked up and down the aisles, grabbing every personal product we saw. Condoms—and the irony wasn’t lost on me. Lube. Stool softener. Adult diapers. A wart removal kit. Tampons. Extra-large super-absorbent maxi-pads—with wings. Yeast infection cream. UTI test strips. And a bottle of anti-diarrhea medicine.”

^^ ~ I really liked Logan and Cara as a couple. Logan was strong enough to know exactly what Cara needed. He didn't cave to her pregnancy bitchiness / commands and she was able to let go and feel vulnerable around him.

^^ ~ The treasure and the Eliza Bailey / John Haven mysteries continue to unfold. A few new clues were unveiled.
Also a new and unfortunate revelation for Gram brought a different element to this story.

^^ ~ I can't wait to read Levi's story and finally get the conclusion to all these unresolved issues.

<><> Quotes <><>
“I definitely had a date with Mr. Bigshot tonight. Mr. Bigshot had batteries. He wasn’t as good as the real thing, but he kept his fucking mouth shut, and that was more than I could say for most men.”

“I’m serious, Logan.” Her blue eyes went icy. “If I find out you were mean to her, I’ll cut your balls off, dip them in wax, and turn them into a candle.”

“This is why pregnancy used to kill so many women. There must have been quack doctors telling them not to have sex and they died of it.”

“I love you. I love you in all your batshit crazy glory.”

“Some people were doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past. Other people used them to do better. And I was determined to be the second type.”

Una novela preciosa. Me encantó.

If you’re looking for your next hot, steamy read then look no further. I think this might be this author’s hottest book yet. What do you expect with an enemies to lovers featuring a hot firefighter? Sparks definitely fly in this fifth installment of the Bailey Brothers.

I don’t want to give away spoilers so I’ll just say that I haven’t been so excited for a book to hit my kindle in a long time. The build up for this couple has been going strong throughout the entire series. They couldn’t stand to be in the same room together so I knew it would be explosive.

Logan stepped into the swoony Hero role perfectly. We get a closer look into Cara’s background and why she’s like she is. The history of the couple’s discord comes out. Don’t worry Gram is still giving amazing insight, and Cara Karma lives on.

My thoughts while reading:
Holy crap, I knew Logan would be my favorite Baily Brother!
OH MY GOSH, I KNEW IT!!
Hold my panties, Logan is a Dom! And I fucking LOVE IT.
WHO IS CHOPPING ONIONS WHILE I'M READING. RUDE!!
THAT ENDING. OH MY GOSH I KNEW IT!!

So now that we are all caught up, let me say this in case you missed it: THIS IS MY FAVORITE BOOK IN THE SERIES!! I also squealed out loud when Claire announced that the leading lady would be, in fact, Cara!! I knew underneath all the fighting between her and Logan that their chemistry would combust in the best of ways, and it sure as heck did! And in the best of ways! Claire took a trope that isn't necessarily my favorite, but made it my favorite. (that made sense in my mind, lol!)

I always knew there was more to Cara than what she allowed us all to see in previous books: though we already knew she was fiercely protective of those she loves, we really get to peel back all of her layers here. She feels so much, but because of her childhood she keeps her emotions close to her without revealing how she's actually feeling. She's insecure, yet a boss bitch, strong but knows when she needs her cuddles, to someone who knew her worth. I just love her so freaking much!

As for Logan, even though he was always the jokster with the questionable fashion sense, there is so much more to him than meets the eye. He may not always like to be serious, but he didn't even bat an eye to be there for Cara when she really needed someone-- even though she wouldn't admit that. I loved seeing the intense, growly, and at times caveman side of him, but beneath it all, he just had the best heart. I could literally talk all day about how much I loved these two together, and everything was just PERFECT! And don't worry, there were tons of bro-ness for us all to love!

I just can't say this enough: Logan and Cara were so freaking amazing together, and they are by far one of my favorite couples that Claire has ever, ever come up with. I think he may even top Leo for me. (Runs and hides.) Just do me a favor and read this book as soon as you can!!

And that epilogue!? My goodness I CAN'T WAIT!! GO ONE CLICK NOW!!!!!

**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions!**

I have been looking forward to reading Logan & Cara's book since I first read Protecting You (book 1 in the Bailey series) and this book did not disappoint. If I could give this book more than 5 stars I would. I read it in one sitting, I just could not put it down!!! Not only did I love the banter between Logan and Cara but also the family times with Gram, Grace, Fiona, Skylar & the other Bailey brothers. There are some surprises in the story and I won't be giving any of those away. Now comes the hard part, waiting for Levi's story!

Amazon US * Amazon UK

I haven't read the previous books in this series yet and I know they're supposed to be read in order but this was the book that interested me the most so I decided to just dive in. And it worked pretty well reading out of order, though there's some family information that I clearly missed but for me that didn't matter.

As for our main characters, I really liked their chemistry. I'm not typically a fan of enemies to lovers, and especially not when there's no clear reason for the dislike between the characters, but somehow it worked in this story. Maybe because I haven't read the previous book so I could easily assume that I just missed whatever reason there was such animosity between Logan and Cara. So I got to just enjoy the tension between them and I loved it. The back and forth was so fun to read and I enjoyed the crazy hormonal moments with Cara where Logan had to handle her. I thought those moments were really sweet and really showed how great they were as a couple. As well as the hotter scenes with Logan handling Cara's mood swings in a completely un-sweet way.

Overall, I'll definitely be coming back to this series and I can't wait to read more of these brothers. Though I do hope the whole "Bro-nicknames" was just a Logan thing and won't be heavily in the other books.

Logan was so drunk he could barely get his pants off and he needed to get them off NOW! He's having a hard time lining up with the woman he is with until he finally flips her on her stomach, lifts up her a$$ and grabs her hair. Finally he's where he needs to be and as they both shatter with their release he blacks out cold.

When Logan wakes up he is naked and alone and still drunk. Had he been with someone? He was alone so probably not, but what an awesome dream.

Cara loved Grace more than anyone, but instead of having a sexless non-lesbian life-partner marriage with her Grace had married her high school sweetheart, Asher. She just needed to get used to not seeing her as much as before. But, that meant spending more time with the Bailey brothers.

Cara and Logan had been at each other's throats for years. Her best friend Grace was married to his oldest brother Asher so unfortunately she ran across him way too often. She especially wanted nothing to do with him now. Did he even remember their drunken night after Skylar's book release party? And why does he have to smell so good and why is she even noticing?

I have been waiting so much for Logan's story and Claire Kingsley outdid even my wildest expectations! I love all the brothers, but Logan and Cara's story has to be the steamiest of them all. If you thought their chemistry was off the charts before beware because this book is smoking hot.

We finally get to meet Cara's mom....unfortunately and get to understand more why she has such a high wall around her emotions. Once Logan found the crack in her armor he didn't let up.

Logan. With his ugly tube socks and broisms. What can get better than a sexy firefighter? Nothing!

And the feud continues...the Bailey Haven feud, that is. No one knows when or how it started, but finding a mirror set under the floorboards of Grace's house belonging to Eliza Bailey was raising a lot of speculation.

The Tilikum squirrels are up to their usual mayhem and Princess Squeaker is still bringing gorgeous men down to their knees. And Gram is her usual calm self despite everything.

Asher and Grace, Evan and Fiona, Gavin and Skylar, Logan and Cara, and Levi and ...... this is one series I'm going to miss after Levi's story. I am so invested in the Bailey family and the small town of Tilikum that I think I might actually be in tears when Levi gets his HEA. The series is that good. Claire Kingsley gives you all the emotions. This book made me laugh and cry and then turn around and want to kick butt.

I highly recommend not only this book and series, but anything written by Claire Kingsley!

This series keeps getting better and better! I love all the Baileys and their stories but Logan and Cara's story is my favorite to date. Their spark has been simmering throughout the entire series and it finally released into hot, molten lava. Logan and Cara together are fire and their connection is fierce. The connection continues to develop throughout the story and I loved every minute of it.

This book gives us insight into Cara's family history and reveals how Cara & Logan met and what started their "hatred". There is a fine line between love and hate. Logan's sweet, caring side is revealed in this book and it is so fun to see him grow. "A trickster you might be, but you'll fly to the ends of the earth to take care of those you love." I adore his relationship with Levi (Brodenical!) and their telepathic communication. And who can forget all the new additions to the broisms!

Cara continues to grow and try to find herself. We got a little piece of this in Gavin's story when she was trying to find a hobby but that theme continues in this book. And Logan's description of her? Perfection. "She was fierce, protective, and territorial. Wild and impossible to tame."

The Bailey/Haven/Montgomery mystery continues to unravel more clues. We get to learn a little more about Harvey and he reveals some tidbits on his journey to find the Montgomery treasure.

Clear your day when you start this story because you will not want to put it down until the very last page. I can't stress enough how much I loved Chasing Her Fire - simply amazing. Another top-notch book by Claire Kingsley. I cannot wait for Levi's story and a resolution to the mystery that has been a back-burner throughout the series.

Ready for Levi’s book next!

I’ve been WAITING (not patiently) for this book. With all the tension between Logan and Cara in the previous books, I knew their story was going to be off the charts with sexual tension and an angsty enemies to lovers plot.... but it fell flat for me. While I still enjoyed reading their story, catching up with all the other Bailey brothers and reading more about the town feud/hidden treasure, there just wasn’t much going on in this book. I expected there to be an explosion of emotions between these two because of how they fought in the previous books, but after a one night drunken encounter, they move on pretty quickly with getting over their past and becoming a couple. As much as they stated they disliked each other in previous books, it just seemed they moved pretty effortlessly into each other’s lives. I know they are obviously meant to be together, but I guess I just expected more angst? But it was severely lacking in that department. Everything to just seemed to flow so perfectly for them to become this perfect couple with a HEA. They didn’t even ever have the normal angsty breakup/something major happening that almost all other romance novels have. Again, it was just a sweet read of two people who used to think they hated each other coming together and becoming a family. It was sweet, but that was it. Of course I’ll still read Levi’s book next because I’m invested in the Bailey brothers and I’m hoping there’s much more emotion/angst since he will be in a forbidden love Romeo/Juliet type trope.

How many ways can you love a book? Logan and Cara have had such a passionate hatred for each other that you always had to wonder... and this book does such a wonderful job of crossing that boundary from hate to friends to more; and a fantastic job of explaining where the original antagonism came from. Cara’s past being exposed and and showing that fun loving Bromaster Logan can be responsible and mature but not in a way that seems out of nature for them is amazing. The reason they get close and their reactions to it and seeing them grow and figure out how to work together for something by more important than themselves. Beautiful. And of course the fine line of hate and passion that gets crossed again and again make it a fun adventure to read about too. 😉

Logan and Cara’s book was a combination of what are usually my two least favorite tropes, enemies-to-lovers + (that other thing). But Claire Kingsley worked her Claire magic (because of course she did) and I was completely won over. Logan and Cara, who we’ve seen spar for 4 Bailey books now, were forced to work together and cooperate for the sake of a common cause. Cara’s quirks and Logan’s bad fashion sense fell away and what was left were melty, vulnerable centers that only the other could unearth. I’ve anticipated this pairing since the beginning of the series and it was just as satisfying to have these two finally bang away their disdain until a common cause erased the hate, fondness sprung from their common cause, and fondness gave way to love. In addition to all the Bailey brother happy endings, I am all-in on this Montgomery-Haven-Bailey mystery and even though we got more information in this book, I am dying to reach a conclusion with this!

That. Epilogue. OMG. IT’S HAPPENING!

Chasing Her Fire is book 5 in the Bailey Brothers, small town series and after loving books 3 and 4 in this series, this one was just okay for me! This is a surprise pregnancy after a one-night-stand/hookup between enemies.

Logan is one of the Bailey brothers and a firefighter in Tilikum. He hooked up with the woman he loves to hate, Cara, before the story starts and then we quickly see that Cara is pregnant from that one night hookup. This one was okay for me, but it did feel a little too long. We get lots of forced proximity because he moves in with her to make it work and prep for the baby. Very quickly they realize they can’t keep their hands off one another and give into their feelings. I did like seeing them trying to make it work for their baby. I’ve been listening to this series on audio so that has definitely brought this series to life! While not my fav in the series, it wasn’t my least fav either.

HANDS DOWN MY FAVORITE PREGNANCY BOOK EVER!!!

This is nothing short of perfect - LOGANNNNN! omg he immediately realizes there is NO ONE more important than Cara and his baby and steps up right away.

I absolutely loved this book to the point that I also have it on audio and I'm contemplating rereading it like tomorrow!

SO GOOD

Claire Kingsley is one of my favourite authors and I love all her books, but this one is definitely something special. I am not even sure what it is about this book but I loved everything about it.

Cara and Logan are enemies, they hate each other with a passion, but after one drunken night together things change. Crazy Cara has reasons for the way she acts, and Logan realises that he has to step up and do the right thing, but strangely they just seem to make it work. Logan is caring and understanding, and Cara doesn’t want to keep pushing him away, they just seem to make it work.

Of course, it’s not all easy, the Havens are still at their old tricks, but this time the Bailey brothers and their ladies refuse to let them win, they will protect Gram at all costs!

Sometimes things in life are not always as they seem, and eventually you just have to separate the good from the bad, and put yourself and your family first.

OMG THIS BOOK. It made me laugh. It made me cry. It made me angry. It made me swoon. It’s got mystery. It gave me *all the feels* and it is just 100% absolute perfection. I knew from the first time we encountered Cara and Logan that they were made for each other and Claire Kingsley did not let us down with Chasing Her Fire. Love the Bailey brothers series and cannot wait for the next one!

And this book brings us yet another Bailey brother. I’m glad they have such a large family. The hero in this book is Logan. He, his twin brother Levi and Gavin, the youngest, are all firefighters for the Tilikum Fire Department. The heroine is Cara. She is best friends with Grace, the heroine of the first two books. Logan and Cara have had a very antagonistic relationship from the very beginning which has always seemed odd. She gets along fine with all the other brothers and she is an important part of the ‘group’ of them. And Logan has gotten along fine with the new girlfriends of all of his brothers. It’s just these two that are like oil and water and have been from the very first book. Of course we readers have probably felt all along that it must be a case of “they doth protest too much”. And of course it is. Underneath, where they do not go in their minds, they are so hot for each other.

Cara is a unique heroine. She is fiercely defensive of those she loves – and she will do anything for them. She comes from unlimited wealth and her main employment focus seems to be that of a social influencer. She doesn’t have much of a filter and says whatever pops into her head and she is wonderful. She the kind of heroine who has the brass balls we all wish we had. But underneath she is sad. She has almost no relationship with her father; a card here or there on special occasions and her mother is very toxic and only contacts Cara when she needs money.
Logan is a great hero though maybe not quite as dynamic as Cara. But that works out good for them as a couple. And as with the other books, we have the closeness, the hilarious pranks they pull on the Havens, there are more layers added to the mystery of the start of the feud.

This book didn’t have quite the strong impact on me as the previous books so I’m only giving it a 4.5 (grin)

There is one last book in the series, Levi’s book and darn it all, it’s not out yet. But we know it’s going to be a good one as it appears Levi’s love interest just might be one of the enemy. And I so want to know what happened to the missing people and what started the battle between the Hatfields and the McCoys – oops, the Baileys and the Haven’s. I’m not sure when it’s coming out but I’m already “lined up” for it.

I’m so glad I discovered Claire Kingsley. While I wait I just started a previous series she wrote, the Miles family which crosses over with some of the Bailey Brother series.

Logan and Cara are fiery, steamy, and so dang hot. Their fight and fire crackles between them and ignites a blaze. Logan Bailey is the stuff dream men are made of. Hot, sexy, firefighter with a heart of gold. Seeing the journey Cara and Logan embark on after their drunken tumble in bed is not only buzzing with sexual tension but so much love and humor. Cara and Logan were fated from the beginning. It was a rollercoaster of emotions. I don’t know how each story just gets better and better. The Bailey brothers are my favorite group of men. Claire knocked another one out of the park.

Audiobook Review
Overall 4.5 stars
Performance 5 stars
Story 4 stars

I've been waiting for Logan and Cara's book ever since seeing sparks fly between these two early in the series. The enemies to lovers trope was made for these two and Chasing Her Fire did not disappoint. I’m not the biggest fan of the trope in this one, but I loved the forced proximity it caused and how it allowed these two to finally see past the walls and masks. There are plenty of sexy times in this book (that prologue is scorching hot!), but also many emotional and vulnerable moments too. I loved seeing a different side to both Cara and Logan. It was also wonderful to catch up with the entire Bailey family (welcome little bear!) and I’m so excited for Levi’s book next.

Teddy Hamilton can do no wrong. I loved his narration as Logan and Virginia Rose was equally wonderful as Cara. These two sounded great together and conveyed so much emotion in their performances. It was the perfect balance of playful and sexy.

CW: strained and toxic parental relationships, financial issues/embezzlement, discussions and on page descriptions of: pregnancy, possible loss of pregnancy, childbirth, and automobile accidents

I loved both the main characters in this, it was an enemies to lovers, reverse grumpy sunshine. I liked the family drama and how it was resolved but this story really dragged towards the end. I gotta say all the town mystery throughout these books is boring af. I know it’s an arching storyline that links all the books but I just don’t give a f*ck and could entirely do without it. So though this was a good story and I loved the characters it lost points for me due to boring side story and boring ending. Also at the beginning a lot of technical errors on pregnancy and doctors etc tripped me up. It was very inaccurate and I’m annoyed by it. That’s it, it’s worth reading the book, especially if you are doing the series in order, but not the best one.

Another amazing read from this wonderful series, that keeps getting better and better. I must admit, I have been a fan of Logan and Cara since the beginning and now I had the chance to fulfill my desire to see them together. So this book is a slow burn read that is to say you don't get the fulfilment of happiness without suffering a little bit. But be confident, my dear readers because this story is a rollercoaster ride especially when you are dealing with a crazy girl like Cara and a womaniser like Logan. For further details of how this story will burn your fingers for its hotness and how it will unleash unbelievable fantasies, you just need to pick up the book and see for yourself.

I saw extracts of this all over booktok and instantly I knew I had to read it. I haven’t read the previous books, but I got the gist of who everyone was with pretty quickly. It wasn’t overcomplicated, which I appreciated. I liked Logan’s playful personality and their relationship dynamic - very up and down, but in a good way. My only pet peeve is that I hated the nicknames Cara used. I cringed every time she said “boo”, just no don’t do it.
Personal preference, but still a good, easy read.
