The Inn of Hopes and Dreams

Rate this book
Lydia Kendrick has always dreamed of one day running the Silver Stag Inn & Pub, but a sudden change of events means she must take over sooner than expected. Much sooner.

She loves her life in the small Wisconsin town of Olsenberg and can’t think of living anywhere else. The Silver Stag Inn & Pub is the center of her universe. Now that she’s taking over the running of the Silver Stag, the weight of her responsibility makes the million and one problems seem like she’s just one step away from losing everything. Her first challenge is finding a new chef.

When a miracle seems to present himself in the form of Oliver Kent, an experienced chef, who also hails from the English countryside, she almost can’t believe her luck. Oliver should be the answer to her biggest challenge. But miracles don’t always come in agreeable packages. Despite being super handsome, with a sexy English accent, and an incredible chef, Oliver is also arrogant and insufferable. He thinks she’s a bossy control freak. But Lydia doesn’t need to like him, she just needs him to cook. But letting down some of their boundaries might be just what they both need.

Despite being pulled in a million directions between managing the pub and running the inn, Lydia has tough decisions to make. The future of the Silver Stag hangs in the balance and it’s up to Lydia to save it.

The Inn of Hopes and Dreams is the second installment of the Independent Heart series, but can be read as a standalone novel.

I got bored and almost didn’t finish the book.
I love the author, she’s amazing and her YouTube videos make me happy but her style of writing and her stories are probably not my thing.
I’d still recommend it to someone who likes romance and winter. I don’t like winter, snow sounds like a nightmare to me. So yep, this book was not my cup of tea but I think the ending was cute.👍

Great read

I really enjoyed this read. I struggled with the first book in the series. I had a hard time connecting with the characters and it felt a little slow in plot. I am glad I gave this one a try. I loved the character development and the plot. I found myself crying a few times, the author was able to bring me into the story. I am eager to read the next book to find out what happens to the characters in this one! And I may give the first book another read to see if it was just a me thing.

Excellent

Very good story. I like how Ms. Severson writes her books. You tend to think about the characters throughout the day wondering what will happen next.

I really enjoyed this second installment in the Independent Heart series.
Plenty of delicious food imagery, as its set in a small town's hotel and restaurant/pub.
I also really liked the DIY sections, where our main character, Lydia, is trying to expand her family's business by adding on cottages that she has completely refurbished on her own.
And although present in the first book, the friendships between the FMC and the other women (both single and in relationships) were definitely expanded and explored more. It was refreshing to see women gathering together, and rather than gossiping or sniping at each other, they are truly friends and care for each other.
I'm really loving this series. It's a nice break from the bleak, dystopian or harrowing reads I've been used to this year.
