At thirty-eight, Hope Daniels is a Jersey cop with superhuman hearing and a controlling mother. And she's about to marry any sane woman's last choice of a groom. Right before she walks down the aisle, she hears distant screams. Figuring someone should be rescued, she bolts from her mother's vision of a royal wedding. But when she breaks down the door of a BDSM club, she's the one who winds up in handcuffs. Dorian Markoff is intent on using a hypnotist to wipe the beautiful cop's mind of his-and his club's-existence. But the hypnotist is in Vegas so a mad romp ensues, involving lots of hot vanilla-ish sex that turns his BDSM lifestyle upside down. Neither guesses what an adventure it will be to find the hypnotist, avoid one unintentionally snubbed Dominatrix, and explain it all to Hope's mother. All while falling in love.
Ashlyn Chase has been a registered nurse for 20 years. During those years, she wrote articles for professional journals and a thesis, but eventually, thank goodness, discovered the joy and freedom of writing fiction.
Ashlyn considers herself lucky. Her degree in behavioral sciences is a combination of psychology and sociology, so she has worked with and studied people most of her life. She never has to write out exhaustive character sketches to understand her characters or predict how they will behave. That doesn't mean they don't surprise her. Sometimes they take her on grand unexpected journeys. For her, it gives "character driven novels" a whole new meaning.
Ashlyn has learned to go with the flow. To enjoy the journey is not only one of her writing goals, but also a challenge in life so she tries to follow where the story takes her. As such, she has lived in 17 different places over the years. At last, she's all settled down and comfy in New England.
Is there a grand design or do we decide our own fates? Perhaps if the powers-that-be have a plot, then they also give us the right to revise it. Ashlyn has certainly made detours on her path, but she thinks she's better for it. She's having fun at any rate and hopes that if she enjoys the journey, so will those around her—including her readers.
fun story with the kind of wacky you expect from Ash. When a runaway bride who's also a cop mistakenly breaks into a BDSM club thinking she needs to rescue someone, the owner has no choice but to kidnap her to Vegas where he had get her memory erased. Okay, completely implausible, but it's a screwball comedy that will have you snorting your drink of choice out your nose, so who cares? One moment when I wondered why the hero would stick with a woman who turns the hypnotism on him cause, let's face it, most men would object, but Chase pulls it off with nearly indiscernible aplomb.
Having super human hearing would be something all in itself. But add to that her mother's idea of a wedding for you to the last resort and you have a very interesting life. But to hear screams that sound like a crime and end up in a bdsm club. You have to read this one. It is exciting, fun, and laugh out loud funny. I loved it. I highly recommend it. I was given a review copy and voluntarily review it.
Contemporary setting, plot has somewhat overdone BDSM elements which might be offensive, mostly to those who are actually into that scene. The book tries hard to be funny - and it does frequently succeed. Sometimes it tries too hard and falls flat... For me it was a read-once - and I will keep an eye out for others by the pair but they haven't moved onto my must-buy list yet.
This book is fantastic. It is co-written by Ashlyn Chase and Dalton Diaz. They are a team well worth reading and well worth watching. After you finish reading this book and mopping up your eyes from the residual laughter contact Ellora's Cave and beg them for more Chase and Diaz.
