My purpose for picking this book up was two-fold. I am married to a man, and I love that man very much. He doesn’t really struggle with confidence, but every now and then there are tiny cracks in his armor. I was hoping that, by reading this book, I could find some tools to help him through some of those moments of self-doubt. On top of that, I want to know how (and maybe why) a confident man is sought after when it feels like so often, a confident woman is called arrogant, bossy, etc. I want to be confident too…without the name-calling that seems to follow confident women. There is a ton of useful information in this book, and I feel strongly that my husband could, indeed, benefit from reading it. None of the information is particularly new to me, as a woman. Women are inundated with self-care and self-love tactics, but for some reason, society has decided it’s not as important to teach those same lessons to men. My biggest take-away was how frequently it was mentioned that seeking professional assistance is OK. I wish that message was more far-reaching and prevalent. Seeing out professional assistance shouldn’t be stigmatized, it should be a normal part of everybody’s physical and emotional well-being. I appreciated that message immensely.
How to recognize difficulties in confidence is first and includes hope in confident you actually are by looking at different situations you are in helps you see what you need to work on. Then easy to follow exercises and steps to help your in forward process. I really like the hopeful perspective in and interactive activities.
I have been working with a coach for the better part of a year now and this book takes you down a similar path that he has taken our group down. Andrew Glover has a good grasp on helping men gain confidence.
