I shouldn't bother with her older books but I keep hoping that they will be good. Typical romance, lonely widow with two small boys. Rich guy. They meet. But it's complicated. He has something that he is not telling her. A bit eye-rolling really.

I realize that this book was published in 1984 and time's have changed and so have women's outlook on their lives. But I could not get over the blatant use of stereotypical gender roles in this book. I don't think I've ever read anything before that ever made me want to put the book down and never pick it up again because the writing offended me. Oh, I'm so helpless out here camping by myself with my two sons because I'm a women. I didn't think to bring a lantern or basic supplies while camping! It must be those silly feminine hormones getting in the way of my intelligence again! Then there are the sex scenes. The first time I wanted to put this book down and never pick it up again was the first sex scene between the main characters.
After Pierece asks Alicia if she wants to stop this is her exact train of thought "But stronger than his desire, than his body, was his character. Even now, he was willing to let her call it off." O-M-G! The character of this man...that he wouldn't rape me if I decided to call it off because of his uncontrollable male urges...oh it makes me swoon! Seriously?! Then there is the secret of Pierce that he keeps from Alicia on why they can't be together. We eventually find out its because he may or may not be sick. It could just be nothing where he would only have to take some medication and he would be find. BUT..there is a chance he could have a serious blood disorder and die. On that chance he decides to break off their relationship and never contact her again. WTF?!(I'll give you a hint, it doesn't end that way). Okay I'm done. This book had no real plot and it was kind of mind numbing to read through it.

So wonderful!
The story between Pierce and Alicia was both sweet and frustrating. Pierce is so perfect in every way except for the secret he hides. Alicia is a widowed mother of two who is working so hard to be the best mom. She and Pierce are instantly attracted to each other and get along so well, when Pierce suddenly shuts down it’s heart breaking to see the pain for both of them.

Oh gosh guys. Don't read this. PLEASE. It was terrible. You all know I don't usually make DNFing a habit, but for this I did. I only had 40 pages left, but I just couldn't.

First of all, the writing was so affected. The author used big words just to sound intelligent, when in reality it made all of the dialogue and thoughts of the characters sound staged and fake as hell. It also made the writing really tedious to get through.

But what I hated most were the characters. They were both horny all of the time. Like it was ALL they thought about. But when they did have sex, it was cringy and awkward to read. And this was after they knew one another for a couple days. And when they had children close to them in another room. Then of course they decided they couldn't live without each other, but OF COURSE it wasn't going to work. *rolls eyes*. They wouldn't even get to really know one another. And the main girl was supposed to be DONE with relationships. RIGHT. I bet.

Oh and lets not mention that immature scene with them getting it on in a Disney World ride, and that one scene where the main male MC said he was so horny he would rape the girl on a table. No NO NO FUCK NO. After that this whole book made me want to throw up. So I didn't finish it.

This book is just wasting time. This is my first novel from Sandra Brown, and I am sorry because of that. Her other novels might be better than this one, and I don't know how am I going to take them after this one.

No puedo recomendarla. Mejor que caiga en el olvido.
Crítica más amplia, en mi blog.

This was a fun older contemporary romance.

The drama was a bit OTT but it was fun. I liked the relationship that developed between Pierce, Alicia and her kids.

There wasn't too much to say with this one. I liked all the characters in the story, there was not real villain. It was a pretty easy story to read.

Just a nice romance. It was a quick read that was nicely written. Maybe a little predictable but sometimes you need that. I enjoyed it.

No no. No. This is the first book of Sandra Brown's that I've strongly DISLIKED. Whatever happened to the author I know and love?! I'm staying away from all old Sandra Brown books now as this was a pretty definitive no for me.

Potential for a good story: 5/5
Actual story: 0/5
Character development: 0/5
Plot: 0/5
Romance: 1.5/5
Problematic statements: 4/5
Bizarre dialogs: 5/5

Agh. No.

Romance novel from the 80s!

This was originally published as a love slept novel. From what I understand love swept is similar to silhouette or harlequin. This is definitely a result of its time. The plot isn’t the best but I interested after the meet cute between the characters. The big reveal was predictable but I liked the H Pierce even though everyone in this book could be a real idiot.

Overall, cute single parent romance.

I'm a long time fan of Sandra Brown. Send No Flowers is one of her earlier (80s, I think) romance titles. It's a sweet story but there were a couple of parts I found unrealistic about the story. The first of which being the mother letting a stranger sleep in the same bed, alone, with her child. I just had a hard time imaging someone who would do that. The next day, she lets the man drive her kids somewhere alone. The final thing that stopped me from enjoying this book as much as I otherwise would have, is the heroine's mental train of thought about the hero. She'd known him for about an hour and reasons she's safe enough with him because he's "too good-looking to have to force a woman."

So, eh. It was okay. Sandra Brown is still a fabulous author. Some different titles of hers that I can recommend:

*Mirror Image (newer)
*Unspeakable (2004 or 2005)

And a couple of my fav older titles:

*Honor Bound (probably my number one favorite)
*Tiger Prince (also my number one favorite :) )

I am a huge fan of Sandra Brown she is beyond AWESOME!!! A classic love story, overlooking its flaws of a portrayal of a innocent times and the fact it was written in the 1980s it is a well written, cute, funny, sexy, slight angsty read with a little misdirection at the end ?we see the beginnings of her later romantic suspense writings..

2.5* Another quick, and dated, series romance by Brown. Parts of this I really liked, but as with Demon Rumm, I felt the angst was overblown given the situation. But, as I said, I liked parts of this really well, including the characters, so I'm satisfied.

Apa sebenarnya alasan Pierce menghindari Alicia? Apakah mereka akan bertemu dan bersatu kembali?

Well...

Tapi, buku ini cukup to the point, tidak bertele-tele sejak baca halaman awal, ketika pembaca disodorkan pemandangan/ deskripsi tubuh Alicia #uhukk# berdasarkan pengamatan Pierce tentunya.

Sandra Brown's "Send No Flowers," a timeless romance novel, made its debut in 1984. This emotionally charged romance novel, "Send No Flowers," penned by Sandra Brown, is a testament to her storytelling prowess. Brown masterfully crafts the characters, skillfully weaving the tension between Alicia and Pierce throughout the narrative. The novel also entices readers with its passionate love scenes.

Alicia, a woman of both strength and vulnerability, grapples with the loss of her husband and best friend, all while striving to rebuild her life. The novel stands out for its focus on the heroine's emotional journey alongside her physical one. The shadow of a secret looms over Pierce, keeping readers guessing until the very end, ensuring their engagement and thirst for more.

The relationship between Pierce and Alicia is a delicate blend of sweetness and frustration. Pierce, nearly flawless in every aspect, carries a hidden burden. Meanwhile, Alicia, a widowed mother of two, tirelessly endeavors to be the best mother she can be. Their instant attraction and harmonious connection make Pierce's sudden withdrawal all the more heart-wrenching, casting a poignant shadow over both their lives.

Alicia has lost her husband, Jim, 3 years ago .Their sons are David(now 7) and Adam (now 5).After Jim's death Alicia got engaged to his best frien, Carter, a successful author. But Carter fell in love with Sloan and now they 're expecting their first baby.
Alicia takes the boys to a mountain cabin.Unfortunately for them, there is a storm which ruins the cabin.
Pierce, an aeronautical engineer, stays in the cabin next door. He rescues Alicia (who9 pretends her husband is around) and the boys and brings them to his cabin. The boys like him at once . Pierce suggests they all share the cabin for the week. around
Pierce was married once ,but had no contact with his daughter for many years. Chrissy is now 21 and is pushed by her mother to marry well. She and the boys get well, too.At one point (back home) Chrissy breaks her engagement.
Pierce and Alicia love each other, but he won't commit -why ?
The book was published in 1984 and reprinted in 2000. There are tell-tale hints that is an old book : no cell-phones, there are phone books in use, etc.
Both boys are charmers.
The book deals with the choices people make.I liked it very much.

211 pages of god awful writing. The author was jumping in and out of people’s heads so much I was getting whiplash trying to keep up. The storyline was very unrealistic and read like a horrible fantasy. The characters seemed to lack common sense making me want to throttle them often. I get that is was first published in 1984 but I have read so much better from that time period. Who has ever said, “you are so decadent” in the throughs of passion? No one unless it is the 1800s maybe. If Rachel, from the TV show “Friends”, had ever finished her erotic novel in the episode with Nora Bing (Chandler’s mom), this would be it.

A novel that speaks loudly to womens' fantasy of love with the perfect male, as well as the associated fears and disappointments they encounter when they take the plunge!

Right out of the gate, the author sets the stage for the sexually-charged story between a young widow with two sons and a divorced playboy with a grown daughter who have a chance encounter.

Frankly, I was more taken by the author's ability to artfully describe - in page after page and in full-blown detail - the intimate love encounters between the male and female characters in the story, than I was with the story itself.

Look, I got the book for $3, and for that, it was entertaining. The plot was strong enough to keep me turning pages, the language digestible but still flowery. But the book was riddled with errors. It switched between the two main characters points of view so often I had a hard time knowing who was narrating when. At one point it even switched to first person instead of third. I don't regret reading it, but I wouldn't exactly recommend it

If you love romance and don't mind simple, this is a simple romance.

Does real romance need at least one villain? Jane Austen thought so. Sandra Brown doesn't agree.

Well, I think Austen was right.

On the other hand, I think a good romance is best with at least one shaggy four-footed character in a minor role. Jane Austen didn't agree. Brown has two small boys filling in as the minor but lovable characters. They definitely make the romance better (if they do get in the way of the sex).
