Conqueror had a distinct instalove sort of vibe... and I loved it!

Evie, the woman rescued in Captain of the Guard, was held as a lab experiment by a vicious sadist for two years. She was having a hard time adjusting to being free. She was angry, frustrated and hurting. Her only real moments of peace came from those stolen with the ruler of Taln.

Graylan and his planet were the last stand in the war against his warlord father. He and his brothers (Rhain and Brodin) were willing to do any and everything to stop him from killing even one more person.

Working together, will they finally put an end to their father's tyranny?

I really liked how the romance developed between Gray and Evie. He was so patient and understanding with her, and she saw the man behind the duty. And for how strong and incredible they were together... I loved watching it all.

Conqueror is the fourth book in the "Galactic Kings" series and I was so excited to be able to pick this one up here. After how book three left off, I was really curious about the heroine here. I have to say that this book immediately pulls you in and I wasn't able to put this down. It consumed all of my focus and attention and I was so easily swept up into this one here. It definitely reminded me why I adore this author so much and I definitely need to be reading more of her work.

The gist of the story is that our heroine, is from Earth, was kidnapped and tortured, and used for experiments for two years. She has recently been rescued and recovering. But she is no long a normal woman anymore, she has these abilities that scare her, but she is also feeling an intense connection to the King of Taln, Graylan. Graylan, is only looking to have an arranged marriage for political reasons, and not for love. He fears what love will do for him. But as his relationship with Evie grows and soon his father enters the playing field and his world is in grave danger. But with Evie and their friends, they will be able to fight for freedom and to live free of their father's tyranny.

I absolutely adored this book so much, it was everything that I could have hoped for in a romance. I so enjoyed the way that these books have been written, and Anna Hackett has done wonders with these books. I absolutely was so drawn into the romance of the story. Their connection is so powerful on the page, you just can't help but be immersed in the story. I really enjoyed the conclusion of this story and that the father gets justice and they find a way to resolve it all which is highly satisfying. We see a strong focus on friendshhips, and I can't wait to explore the Gladiator books as some of the characters connect to this series plus they are badass when fighting haha

Overall I found "Conqueror" to be a delectable read that I couldn't seem to get enough of.

4.5 out of 5

This is the fourth and final book in the Galactic King SciFi series. It’s about three different rulers of their respective planets and the women from Earth they fall in love with. They all have the same power mad father but different mothers.

This book focuses on Graylen, Conqueror of the planet Taln, and Evie, a young woman from Earth who had been captured by his evil father and experimented on for a couple of years. She had been found and rescued in the previous book. Gray has become very protective of Evie while she recuperates on Taln. She’s having a difficult times adjusting as she was fundamentally changed while being experimented on. He’s also very drawn to him. Evie is, in turn drawn to Gray, but neither see any kind of lasting relationship between them. But then, this is a romance, so…….

This is a great wrap up to this series. There is still Zavir, Gray and his brothers father to deal with. He is power mad and willing to destroy anyone, including his sons from gaining control and ruling the galaxy. He’s popped up in every book, wrecking havoc so it’s an adventure romance. While they are dealing with him, Gray and Evie are falling in love. I really love both characters. Evie is rather fragile at the start of the book due to her ordeal but she gains strength and confidence throughout the story. Gray, recognizing her strength is perfect for her and in the midst of their struggles and adventures, there is a growing intimacy between them that I enjoyed.

I love SciFi romance with its intricate world building and that’s done very well over the course of these books. We even get glimpses of characters from previous series by Ms. Hackett and that was fun. I don’t see her mentioned that often among fans of SciFi romance and I really urge those fans to try her. Most of her books are available on KU so there is no reason not to give her a read.

Series: Galactic Kings #4
Rating: 4 stars - It was really good

The final showdown between sons and father has finally arrived but Graylan finds his focus split between his devious father and his growing feelings for Evie Mason.

Since this series has started I have been eager for Graylan’s book. Graylan’s people have the unique ability over earth and stone and he is the strongest of them all. Graylan was a great king and a great partner for Evie. He does initially try to keep her at a distance for fear of getting attached but he does wise up eventually. I enjoyed seeing this strong and controlled man relax and be just a man, not a king.

Evie was one of the humans originally captured on the Jupiter expedition. She has spent two years as a prisoner being experimented on and is now struggling to deal with her new abilities. I really liked Evie. She doesn’t let Graylan push her around and frequently reminds him that he is a man, not just a king. I enjoyed their steamy and intense relationship. It was filled with danger and a lot of emotion, which always works for me.

The battle against their father, Zavir, finally happens. He is a ruthless and power hungry man. I wasn’t surprised by how he tried to take over. I was surprised by how they defeated him. It wasn’t what I expected but I do think it was a good ending. I also loved that we got to see the gladiators and cyborgs again. Overall, this was a great ending for this series but I am sad that it is over now.

Trigger warnings: heroine was abducted and experimented on; PTSD; torture discussed;

Four and a half
So this fun series finally winds to a close with Evie falling in love with Graylan the son of Zavir, the man who had her tortured. Evie is forever changed with unusual abilities but on a planet were it's people can control the very soil they walk on perhaps she just might find she fits in. It's just too bad that Zavir is bent on once and for all destroying his sons and all they fight for !
I think in many ways the author saved the best for last although my favourite heroine from this series has to be Mal. That being said the more gentle Evie does have backbone and tenacity although for this reader her new powers didn't quite make one hundred percent sense. I thought the way that Graylan finally conquered ( yep pun intended ) his father was very unique and completely unexpected. Plus fans of the authors Gladiator series will be happy to see old friends appear although best of all was the final scene but my lips are sealed !
This voluntary take is of an advanced copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

This was a fab conclusion to the series and, really, an epic reading ride. As per usual with this author's work, the world building was beyond fab, the characters were clear, realistic and relatable and the story itself was full of action, suspense, humour, family, friends and a steamy romance. I loved how Gray and Evie were together and also how 'daddy dearest' was dealt with ;) I'm feeling like I have a book hangover but am totally satisfied with how everything was wrapped up. Well done!

As usual, Anna Hackett doesn’t disappoint. I admit I didn’t click with this one to start with, but, as usual, it is packed with plenty of action to hold your interest. This is the final book in the Galactic Kings series, and a resolution to the evil of Zavor. Worth your time to read

Nice finish to a fun series, I’m not sure I’ll remember this particular book very well in months to come, but gosh this was a joyful escape. I also want a sequel series with all the kids going on some adventures. Excited for the next sci-fi series from the Eon world, here’s hoping Wren makes a cameo.

This is the final book in Anna Hackett's Galactic Kings series and I'm gonna be honest, I was pretty disappointed with it. Now, this I knew 100% from the minute I started this series I knew what I was getting into, but with the first three books I was at least having fun and I was hoping for the same for the conclusion of this series. The story centers on the third and final of the three brothers we've been getting to know that are rulers of their own planets in their own right, but together along with the strong, intelligent Earth women they've fallen in love with are trying, once and for all, to take down their manipulative, tyrant of the father to whom they all share blood with much to their dismay. The third brother is Gray, and his love interest, Evie, whom we met towards the end of the last book. Evie had been held captive by Gray's father's minion and suffered quite an ordeal which she is still processing, as well as, trying to understand the new powers she's gained as a result of the experiments she was put through.
She and Gray seem to bond over the trauma they've both suffered at the hand of Gray's father, for him when he was younger, and try to ignore their growing attraction towards one another as Gray has stated to Evie and to his brothers that he doesn't wish to marry for love because anyone he loves will suffer for it even though all the couples from the previous books can see how close he and Evie are growing towards one another. Even it was a hop, skip, and a big leap for that, in my opinion. As I said at the beginning of this review, I knew exactly what kind of story I was in for when I started this series; however, aside from their shared trauma, I felt like Hackett REALLY rushed the relationship and/or the tension between Gray and Evie. I mean the other couples weren't exactly a love story for the ages, but I still felt with what Hackett did to develop both people in the relationship, I felt the tension as well as the chemistry between the other three couples. That was not the case with these two. I don't know if it was balancing the overall plot with the romance, plus having this be the final book in the series that was the result, but I thought this, if there ever was a book, for Hackett to go over three hundred pages, this would've been the one to do it. If Hackett had just added anywhere from fifty to seventy-ish or more pages, in order to give more development to Gray and Evie, both as individuals and as a couple, this book would've really benefited as a result, in my opinion. However, as it stands now I'm standing by my rating. I still love this series for what it is, I just wish I loved this one as much as the others.

As a member of the ARC team I am always looking forward to the new adventures of the varied characters that come up in the different series.
I am very rarely disappointed and Conqueror is another great read!!! I love Gray and his dedication to his people and planet. Evie is a strong survivor learning to use and control her new found power. The two of them discovering to trust and rely on each other is so sweet and beautiful!!! And they learn that no matter what, they are always stronger together!

OK

An action sci-fi romance where insta-lust, action scenes, and steamy time spent alone together lead to insta-love that melts the obstacles between them - at least the ones they don't fight. The heroine, former logistics manger Evie Mason, starts off having just been rescued from 2 years of captivity as an evil scientist's test subject. The hero, Conqueror Graylan Taln Sarkany, thinks he must choose an arranged marriage and can not risk love.

Overall I found this one just too superficial to really connect with the characters and enjoy the story. The plot line was somewhat predictable (based on reading previous books of author), so without connecting to the characters there was really nothing to pull me into the story. I've really liked some other titles by this author, but IMHO this one was a bit disappointing.

I loved every single book in this series and maybe my expectations were a little high for this finale? I don’t know. There were lots of things that didn’t work for me.

The dialogue felt really sloppy and awkward.

The descriptions were very simple and awkward.

The heroines character felt a little simple and had no depth. And don’t get me started on how many times she “gasped”. She literally gasped at EVERYTHING 🙄

I wish Book 3 had been the end to this series.

The thing I liked was the cameos of all of my other favourites.

There is clearly something very wrong with King Zavir Sarkany, but his four sons are all very, very fine indeed. And they’ve banded together to do something about ‘not-so-dear and not-so-old dad’. They’re going to pay him back for all the damage he’s done to their solar system, their individual planets, their people, their families and themselves.

Unlike their tyrannical father, the Sarkany brothers all put themselves last behind the needs of their respective peoples. Their joint problem is that the one thing all of their planets’ peoples need most is to eliminate the man who fathered their respective rulers. Preferably before he manages to destroy all of their worlds so he can ‘get his sons back’. Zavir is delusional. And narcissistic. But unfortunately, quite charismatic when he want to be and extremely powerful all of the damn time.

Nevertheless, his sons have managed to beat back Zavir’s seriously overclocked, over-enhanced and over-genetically-engineered constructs on Zhalto (Overlord), Damar (Emperor) and even on Zavir’s space station based experimental monstrosity lab (Captain of the Guard). Now it’s time for the Sarkany brothers to get together and kick him off Taln and out of their lives for good.

No matter what it takes.

But in his quest to rule his planetary system and his sons, Zavir managed to sow the seeds of his own destruction. There’s something about the women from Earth that both enhances his horrific experiments AND makes them easy to genetically engineer. He intended to create weapons, and they are. But the moment they get free of his scientists’ clutches, each one of them has bonded with one of his sons, giving them yet one more reason to fight him with everything they have.

In this final story in the Galactic Kings series, Conqueror Graylan Taln Sarkany is juggling the protection of his world, the plot to destroy his father, the healing of Earth-refugee Evie Mason (her rescue is part of Captain of the Guard) and fighting his attraction to this woman who is still in mourning for the ‘normal’ person she used to be.

It’s a lot for any person to handle, but Graylan eventually gets the message that he’s capable of conquering anything and anyone – as long as he has Evie by his side.

Escape Rating A-: As Conqueror is the final book in the Galactic Kings series – and a marvelously cathartic one at that – this is not the place to start the series. Start with Overlord because the whole thing is just a terrific science fiction romance read from beginning to end.

Or, if you’re in the mood for a big reading binge, you can always start with Gladiator, the first book in the Galactic Gladiators series. Why? Because the wormhole that brought so many Terrans from the Jupiter outpost to their system all the way across the galaxy is just a gift that has kept on giving, with Conqueror just the latest in a long and wonderful line of interstellar romances.

A line which seems to be continuing in the Oronis Knights series early next year. But we’re not there yet.

The story in Conqueror has all the captivating elements of the previous books in the series. Evie Mason was rescued from the clutches of Zavir’s evil scientists – who honestly make the Nazis look like fluffy bunnies by comparison.

Her blood was used to make Zavir’s experimental creatures even more powerful, and she was genetically engineered to have the same capabilities as the people of one of the planets in the Sarkan system – in this case Gray’s planet Taln. She’s not ‘normal’ anymore by Earth standards and she can’t go home – even if she could.

She wants payback. She also, surprising even herself, wants Gray, although she knows that it can’t possibly lead anywhere. He’s a king and she’s basically a refugee. Also, he’s being an idiot and pursuing an arranged marriage because he thinks it will be easier if he doesn’t love his spouse. For…reasons. As I said, idiot.

So their reluctant romance is a big part of this story, but what makes this one so much fun is that it’s all about finding a final solution for Zavir – and the conflict that Gray and his brothers all have about plotting to kill their father. Who really, really needs it but is still their father. Who can be very, very charming and very, very twisted, sometimes even at the same time.

Their solution is not the one that I was expecting. At all. Which is terrific. That it’s a take on events in Star Trek: Next Gen brought a smile to my face even as I breathed a huge sigh of relief that all was well that ended well. (Although the solution in STNG is about to be undone in the final season of Picard, so who knows? Zavir could be back, too…)

If you are looking for kickass, action-adventure romance in a science fiction setting, where all the protagonists take charge, take names and definitely get the hardest and most heartbreaking jobs done with style and sass, the Galactic Kings – and their queens! – are all winners in love and war and every single one of their stories is a fantastic read!

New and old friends …

Is it because I missed the previous book, but I did not feel entranced by my read like the two firsts in the series.
Like something was missing or too similar to other stories.
There were all the ingredients for a good action romance, yet Gray telling again and again he won’t commit to love and choose a marriage of convenience to keep his emotions dormant and not risk awakening his darker side, all the while seducing Evie, it reminded me a lot of my historical romances with the rake/rogue/cad who has lived through a heartbreak and wrongly believes by dying no they won’t face it again.
Evie, I liked, she is a survivor and does not hide herself behind her fears. She deals with them and confronts them if she is able, refusing to be caged again, not even by her own mind.
She accepts her attirance for Gray, determined to live life at the fullest whatever the time she has.

After this is the classic action and steam packed tale with a hero who finally understands how wrong he has been.

This is the final book in this series about three stepbrothers, who consider themselves brothers in the truest sense of the word. They share the same evil father, but were lucky enough to have good mothers. This story is about Evie Mason and Conqueror Graylan Taln Sarkany. Evie has spent the past two years as a prisoner in a cage on the alien Abiosis space station. The scientists there used her blood to help create weapons that were to be used to harm others on the different planets of the Sarkany System. As a result of the experimentation done on her, she developed certain abilities, such as the ability to absorb power from others and use it. Evie is angry at what was done to her, and she is having a hard time accepting her new ‘normal.’ She was recently rescued by Annora Rahl of Damar and Thadd Naveri of Zhalto when they had to work together to stop the annihilation of the planet Taln. Graylan Sarkany is the ruler of planet Taln within the Sarkany system. His brothers are Rhain and Brodin. Rhain rules Zhalto with his mate from Earth, Mal. Brodin rules Damar with his mate from Earth, Poppy.

Their father is Zavir, and he wants his three sons to rule with him. He wants their power to be at his disposal. However, they don’t want anything to do with him and his machinations. They are each the ruler of one of the planets in the Sarkany system, and that is enough for them. This story has heart! Evie has some intense emotions to work through, and Gray helps her do so. They try to resist each other, but it just doesn’t work. Over time, they finally figure out that they belong together, but not before they face some pretty steep challenges. The three brothers and their Earth women have to work together to defeat all of the evil that Zavir has in store. There are numerous close calls and injuries, but somehow things do work out in the end. This story is exciting and is fast-paced. The tension is extreme at times, and a little lighter at other times. There are unexpected delights in this story as well, with all of the characters from Earth (including those from the prior series) coming together at an important part of the story. Those extra details are what elevate this story to the 5-star category.

It's Graylan's turn to fall (and fall hard) for a human woman while protecting his planet and people from his father's nefarious plans. As the final book in the series, we get answers and resolutions and CLOSURE, my friends. FABULOUS.

But first, Graylan and Evie. He's the powerful ruler of Taln, she's a former captive of Graylan's father who has been experimented on and used to fuel Zavir's other terrible projects. He's 100% convinced he can never allow himself to love. She's trying to find her balance after the awful things done to her.

Look, I'm not here to spoil anything, but Graylan does, in fact, find himself catching feelings for the fierce human woman. He likes her. A lot. And he has to come to terms with that and admit they have the start of something epic before they can move forward with anything. And, yeah, maybe a little life and death situation helps spur things into motion. Because when the potential that you could lose the person you caught feelings for is staring you in the face, a person figures out what's important.

As for Evie, she's got a lot on her plate. A ability she never asked for and doesn't want (at first), the reality that she's likely never going home again, and a big, brooding hunk of a conqueror who's taking up a lot of real estate in her head and heart. Fortunately, both she and Graylan have friends and family they can lean on when things get tough.

A lot of danger, plenty of steam, answer to questions, and a very satisfying conclusion (for everyone, if you know what I mean!). *thumbs up*

After being foiled by two of his sons, the very evil King Zavir is now focused on enlisting his third son, Conqueror Gaylan Taln Sarkany of Taln to rule with him over a restrictive sad world. Like Gaylan’s brothers Brodin Sarkany, emperor of Damar, and Rhain Sarkany, overlord of Zhalto he also hates his crazy, monster, power-hungry father. King Zavir is an all-or-nothing guy. You’re with him or against him. He “dictates” to Gaylan that, he either join with him or he will destroy his planet Taln and all of its inhabitants.
Evie Mason served on an Earth ship in space when the ship was destroyed and she was captured as the only survivor. She has been confined in a cage for two years, in an alien lab being experimented on. Pure torture! Now free she has been changed…she has powers she doesn’t understand. Evie is on Taln and has caught the eye of Gaylan. These two were made for each other. They can feed off as well as enhance each other’s powers.
King Zavir has somehow made it to Taln with his troops and the war is starting. Both of his brother’s armies are backing Gaylan’s military and in a surprise, the battle-hardened Gladiator’s and Cyborg’s from Carthago all arrive ready to kick some butt. It’s wonderful to catch up with many of our heroes from past stories. This is an awesome conclusion to a fast-paced series. The characters are strong, intelligent, caring, and passionate. I received a free advanced copy of this story from Bookfunnel and am thrilled to leave my opinion to interested readers. Linda

INCREDIBLE, EXHILARATING, ROMANTIC END TO AN OUTSTANDING SERIES

The stunning cover shows the dynamic power of King Graylan Taln Sarkany. An exhilarating read with spine-chilling suspense, lots of action, a thunderstorm of emotions, and life-threatening moments. Fiery, passionate romance is genuine. The conclusion to this series melts your heart. This read left me breathless and cheering too.

Evie Mason from earth spent two horrific years as an alien captive. Safe on planet Taln, she realizes she has a new power which she fears. Graylan’s priority has always been to protect his planet, his people, and now feisty smart Evie falls under his wing. Fiery desires rise between them, but there is a bit of glitch that could stop Gray from giving all of himself to her. Evie is a strong, brave-hearted woman. She raises Gray’s spirt and helps him plan how to stop his evil-minded father from destroying Taln. They face many dangers before reaching their happy forever.

Incredible read with engaging characters that spring to life with vivid scene descriptions and witty banter. The author’s description of the combined powers of Evie and Gray is amazing. Back stories bring you closer to the characters. Favorite gladiators make an appearance to help end the wicked dad's plans. Gray and Evie’s love shines in this read. Fabulous conclusion to an outstanding sci-fi series. Relished this read and reviewed a pre-released copy.

Absolutely loved it!

Once again Anna Hackett has delivered an action packed storyline and characters with intense chemistry that are so well written you won't want to put the book down! Yeah is the last of the Galactic Kings to find a human bride. Gray is arguably the strongest of the brothers his power is deep and seemingly endless. His attraction to Evie and her strength of character is evident from the first moment they meet at the end of the last book. He knows that she was held captive, experimented on and tortured. Even though she's gone through so much she is willing to help those around her and also wants to help him defeat his father so that no one else ever had to go through what she did. Evie was locked up and experimented on for two years. What the aliens did to her is irreversible. She is able to afford others power and then release it . As she recovers she becomes more and more attracted to Gray . She tries to tell her self that she can't call in love with him but she just can't seem to help it. When they both succumb to temptation they find that the can shared power and build more between them. Together they find acceptance, healing , passion and a whole lot of love. Highly recommend a phenomenal end to another great series! I can't wait to see what she comes out with next!🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥🔥🔥💖🔥💖💖💖💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖💖💖💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖🔥💖🔥🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖

After being kidnapped, tormented, and subjected to horrible experiments, the new abilities that Evie possessed and made her different were put to the test. Zavir never ceased in his attempts to bend his children to his will, and Graylan, powerful as he alone, was determined to end his father's terror, forever. Struggling with the dark secret he harbored and his feelings for Evie made him fear and doubt his decisions, but when Zavir pushed him to his limits, nothing stopped Graylan. Intense everything Graylan kept inside. I liked the attraction between Evie and Graylan and Evie's strength to deal with her emotions and feelings and offer Graylan support. A strong, determined, and self-sacrificing heroine. The exciting battle was full of tough decisions and harrowing moments, and I was pleased that the outcome of it was different, and I found it right. It was nice how the cycle of stories was closed with the inclusion of some of the Houses of Gladiators' characters. I found this series interesting and very entertaining, with a lot of action, adventure, suspense, intriguing characters, strange monsters, a villain who made me think with his background and unusual feelings for his villain role, mysterious twists, violence, romance, and passion.

The worst father in history is back and causing more problems for his offspring.

Graylan and his people have a talent in sensing and manipulating the planet around them. Some control water or Earth or Stone. But Gray's powers have a little more oomph.

Evie was rescued from an experimentation lab but not before she "acquired" a few talents of her own. She is already struggling with never being able to get home - now she has to carve out a new life on an alien world and learn to control weird powers she never asked for or wanted!

Evie and Graylan are a match made in heaven. They balance each other out so well. Gray lets Evie see that her powers can be used to help those around her and Evie gets Gray to loosen up and forget he's the boss for a while.

The battle against Zavir is epic and I thought it was an ingenious plan. He never really let's go of his ambitions even after his takedown so you can really just hate him without feeling bad about it!

With a chance to meet your favourite Gladiators and their mates and kids again, if you've read the other interconnected series, the Houses of Galen and Rone will sweep you off your feet again!

Good

Conqueror brings the Galactic Kings series to a close, with a bit of a bang.
Evie was a prisoner on a Sarkan space station and experimented on for two years before being rescued by Thadd and Annora (Captain of the Guard).
Now she is on Taln, the planet of Conqueror Gray Sarkany, and it is there that she uncovers their father’s latest plot to control the solar system.
Gray will need Evie’s help, as well as that of his brothers, because it is time to stop their father once and for all.

This was a very satisfying conclusion (especially with the free epilogue) to the series. We get to meet Gray, learn a bit more about Evie, and see a few old friends for good measure.
I was particularly happy at the cameo appearances by the surprise guests- it was nice to see them, and where they are at now.
Of course, there is still plenty of action, adventure, and romance in this book (plus yet a other really epic cover) to keep the sci-fi romance enthusiast happy, and Hacketteers will thoroughly enjoy the read especially because of those surprise guests I mentioned!

A dramatic and satisfying conclusion to a thoroughly enjoyable sci-fi romance series.

I Absolutely loved this book! There are multiple reasons why. One, Gray and Evie were fantastic. Evie was abducted and kept as a test subject by an evil scientist for 2 years and she was so strong but written in a believable way where her vulnerabilities were still there. Gray was so supportive and a fantastic alpha male who really supported his woman- the only thing that I didn't like was that he didn't want to fall in love but Evie made it happen :D

Another reason is the description of the world. As always, Anna Hackett brings you into the world- she provides so many details that I can picture the trees, the animals, and the landscape. It's fun to get away from our real world sometimes.

And finally, there were many visitors that made me cheer-people from past books. And this book, more than many of the other ones, felt more like an ensemble cast rather than just focusing on the couple at hand. That was so awesome!

The book was a wonderful mix of romance and steam, plus action. What a fun ride!

UPDATE: 3.5 overall, bumped to a 4. Too drawn out sexy times for my tastes but I enjoy the Space Opera action. I just completed the Galactic Kings series “Epilogue,” available exclusively through the authors website. It was a fun revisit to these worlds. A nice finish to an enjoyable series I will be rereading at some point down the road.

ORIGINAL POST for the the book, CONQUEROR:
MY RATING GUIDE: 3.5 Stars. I enjoyed CONQUEROR, bk 4, a Proximity-Danger trope novel, and found it brought a satisfying conclusion to AH’s Sci-fi Romance Galactic Kings 4 book series.

1= dnf/What was that?; 2= Nope, not for me; 3= This was okay/cute; 3.5= I ENJOYED THIS; 4= I liked this; 5= I loved this; it was great! (I seldom give 5 Stars).

CONQUEROR, the series Conclusion ~ takes place in earth’s not so distant future, on the far side of the galaxy (hundreds of light years away from earth).

So far ~
CONQUEROR is set in a world of four livable planets in a distant solar system on the far side of our galaxy. King Zavir, dictator and ruler of planet Sarkan, plans to coerce, enslave and/or destroy the populations of the other three planets so he can rule the entire system. (Books 1, 2 & 3, OVERLORD, EMPEROR, & CAPTAIN OF THE GUARD deal with separate attacks on each of the 3 separate planets).

FMC Evie Mason had been employed as a Logistics Manager on an exploration ship orbiting Jupiter when they were attacked, near the (since destroyed) Fortuna space station. Of the entire ship’s crew and occupants Evie alone survived, was taken captive and sold to a crazy alien scientist working under King Zavir’s authority. For 2 long years Evie was a lab rat - experimented upon, altered, and her blood drawn for testing. It was Evie’s attitude - her determination, focus and resilience which allowed her to survive until she is finally discovered and rescued, then brought to the planet Taln. It is on Taln that Evie meets planet Taln’s ruler Conqueror Graylan Taln Sarkany and others, including 2 recently rescued and well-adjusted human women (all from the previous book CAPTAIN OF THE GUARD). In CONQUEROR, planet Taln’s protective warrior ruler MMC Conqueror Graylan gathers his 2 brothers (rulers from the other 2 livable planets), their trained military forces and other allies from neighboring worlds (main characters from GALACTIC GLADIATORS and HOUSE OF RONE). Together these joined forces fight one final battle against Zavir - for life and freedom of all peoples from each of the 4 worlds.

Comments ~
1) CONQUEROR is Book 4 in a new (to me) 4 book series, Galactic Kings by Anna Hackett. Galactic Kings series connects loosely with Galatic Gladiators and the House of Rone (occurring about 6mos later than the previous series). All 3 series occur in a connected world space where the earth characters of each new series become aware of the other travelers from earth (in the other series).
2) I enjoy fast moving Action-Adventure novels that don’t become too dark or angst and drama-filled. Anna Hackett’s books fit my preference very well. The conflict is provided by antagonists in a creative Proximity-Danger setting where intelligent, resilient and gutsy MCs join together to fight evil and eventually prevail against it. Anna’s books are delightful escapism which suceed in taking me far away from the world for just a little awhile (think Indiana Jones & Lost in Space remake).
3) I liked the MCs in CONQUEROR. Conqueror Graylan came from a tragic background yet he was a protective ruler with incredible extra abilities which he kept on a tight leash. Graylin valued Evie’s strength and resilience, her determination as a survivor. Together, both were stronger than either was separately. I need to like and respect the main characters in order to enjoy a story/series. So - yay! Plus, I really enjoy a smart, kick-a$$ FMC and Evie gained strength when she joined with Graylan.
4) CONQUEROR is a fast reading, fast moving, Sci-fi action Romance novel. Perfect for an evening after work or on a quiet afternoon.
5) CONQUEROR has no cliffhangers, 2 MCs with a full story, a satisfying HEA and a satisfying conclusion to the overall series arc. (I believe it will be possible to read each (or any) book in this series as a standalone title but the over reaching series arc will be missed by doing so). I prefer reading Anna’s books in order. COTG begins immediately after EMPEROR ends.
6) As in all Anna Hackett’s book, the antagonists in CONQUEROR enjoy their period of terror but they also eventually reap their much deserved just end - big Yay!
7) The cover art is pretty fabulous for this series.
8) I recommend CONQUEROR to readers who enjoy:
> Space Opera, Sci-fi Romance fiction (and can handle a fair amount of steam).
> Action Adventure novels with Romance (and considerable steam).
> Novels with the conflict provided by antagonists in a Proximity-Danger setting where the MCs team together delivering a much deserved kick-a$$ ending. CONQUEROR is a Proximity-Danger trope, one of my favorite (when without unnecessary misunderstandings).
> Novels with low angst/emotional drama (between MCs) and capable and intelligent female characters teamed with male characters that appreciate them.
> Anna Hackett, Brynne Asher, Amanda McKinney novels.
9) The “sexy times” in CONQUEROR was more than I personally prefer but I skimmed over them as I otherwise enjoyed this adventure quite a bit. ;)

READER CAUTION ~ Not recommended to YA readers or readers who prefer Clean fiction.
PROFANITY - Yes. Strong language is used on occasion.
SEXUAL SITUATIONS - Yes. A number of detailed scenes of intimacy do occur.
VIOLENCE - PG-13. Similar to light Sci-fi or Adventure (SG-1, Star Trek,etc).

I'm obsessed.

Ok, yeah, I am obsessed. Anna Hackett is a genius and this is yet another proof in a long line of masterpieces. This story, of Graylan, Taln's conqueror and Evie, Earth woman who's been freed from captivity, was fourth in the series of Galactic Kings. Now, the three of them plus two warriors live happy, Zavir-free lives.

But before their HEA, Gray and Evie fought the ultimate battle and they didn't do it alone. Anna wrote us visitors from books we already know and love - the gladiators and cyborgs. It was an incredible journey of love and loyalty and fear that led to a united battle. And I only want more.
