****Trigger Warning: This is a Why Choose/Reverse Harem Suspense Romance book, explicit mmm/f, m/m scenes, and talk of past child abuse, sex trafficking, and explicit language****
Roisin (pronounced Ro-sheen) is a writer, traveler, and proud book nerd. She believes there's nothing better than an icy drink, a killer music playlist, and a cozy place to snuggle up with a good book. You'll find her writing about broken people forming trauma bonds, and becoming family. Suspense/Thrillers were her first love, but Why Choose has become her favorite.
It is a first-person narration with multiple POV - Eden, Blaine, Luke, Keir, Caleb, and X. Eden stumbles upon something and she goes on a quest to uncover it as it is related to her guilt and memories of her brother Embry. Eden lost him at a young age, twelve years ago. She suspects he could be the resident of 212D or at least whoever is residing could help her find Embry. Blaine is Eden’s best buddy. Caleb is a disturbed young man who has an avenging angel. Keir is a sex addict due to his traumatizing past. Luke is, well I don’t think I should give that away! X is an experimental baby, born in a research lab. He has some deviated orientations and eccentricities. He’s given the name Hutton by Eden when she finally meets him and interviews him. Read the book to know how all these characters are related. It is a fast paced and thrilling story. It has some explicit reverse harem scenes. This one ends with a cliffhanger.
I wanted to like this book, and I didn't totally hate it, but there was just a lot going on that made it difficult to really get into.
The FMC is a psychology grad student sent to a treatment facility for people that have escaped or survived a cult. She is there with other grad students, participating in a study of the patients. The premise is decent, and there is some good structure to the story, but I just can't go along with a grad student who is sexualizing the patients she is sent to study. Like, after all that learning and effort, she is willing to just throw her ethics and future away for some hot guys?
Then we have an undercover guy posing as a cameraman for the study, when really he is FBI or something similar, there to protect one of the patients. But, he spends a lot of his time drinking and chasing after two of the grad students.
Now I know books aren't always going to be 100% believable, but these characters actions are just so far outside of who they should actually be for the positions they have that I just can't get behind it.
I’m doing a beta read for the 2nd book in this series so, of course, I needed to start with this one first. This RH was not only intriguing, but packed full of information as well. I have always been fascinated with cults and have read so much on different ones, and I’m also a documentary junkie, and I could tell right off that this author did her research instead of just making stuff up for the sake of a story. Not just the inner workings of cults but the psychological aspects as well; the process of the reformation of the psych during cult life and after being able to leave to escape. It just took my intrigue to another level. I’m definitely curious about X and where this story will take him. If he will become a part of the harem or if he will become the villain (or one of them) in this series. When Caleb was first brought in I immediately liked him and his bashful blushing. Then, I didn’t like him so much. I think if his mind can get torn away from the religious mojo then I can see me liking him better. So, I am interested to see where this will go with him. Luke….I like him, but he needs to come out with the secrets before he gets in too deep with Eden. Especially since she has started to open up with him. I love Blaine, but my favorite is sweet Keir. I adore him. So much. I’m loving the flashbacks from Eden’s childhood, experiencing her trauma and getting to see what made her the way she is now. My heart breaks for her and Embry. Definitely can’t wait to see what happened to him. Does X know? So much intrigue and suspense, I’m telling you! So many answers I need and this book has kept me guessing the whole time! Now I’m ready to jump into the 2nd book so I can get my info submitted to this new author for editing. Cause I know I will be wanting to get my hands on book 3 asap. Book 2 has to be complete first!! This is definitely an author to keep your eye on if you love RH as much as I do. I only see this series getting better as it goes along.
Thank you to both Roisin Visser and Happily Booked PR for the arc copy of “Twisted Allegiance”. I really appreciate this opportunity and I am voluntarily leaving a review. Twisted Allegiance is the first book in the series. If you like having Multiple POVs, you love supporting cult survivors and you love the trope Why choose/reverse harem. You would definitely love this one! I really enjoyed it as someone who is really interested in the psychology and history behind cults this book really was interesting and it was lovely how well researched on real and based on/inspired by real life experiences and cults. I can’t wait to find out what happens next for our beloved characters especially Eden!
The premise was interesting, but the execution fell flat. The storyline and structuring was messy and unorganized, and the spice?! So awkward and cringey. And while I usually love me some insta-lust, it all just seemed forced & unrealistic, given the setting & premise of the story. And for the love of god, please never ever ever describe the mmc as a “masculine beefcake” 🤮
A cult. A missing brother. And one girl who escaped the fire....but couldn't escape the scars it left behind.
By day Eden is your typical grad student.
But, by night, Eden is haunted by a childhood she barely survived.
It's when Eden joins a high-profile study on cult survivors, that she tells everyone that it's just for the research.
But, Eden knows that that's a lie.
The facility itself looks polished, professional, and safe.
But, the patients she sees are all fractures, and some of the stories she hears are far too close to her own.
Then Eden's summer takes a more dangerous turn when she herself becomes entangled.
Her best friend Blaine
The cameraman for their documentary
The hidden away possible psychopath
The religious fanatic
The former s*x trafficked cult member
And Eden is here in search of uncovering the truth about what really happened to her little brother and his disappearance.
Eden needs to understand the monster that her own mother became and the man who calls himself God's Arm.
But, the deeper Eden digs, the more danger she invites back into her life.
Because someone is watching her.
And that someone doesn't want her to remember.
***This is a Why Choose/ Reverse Harem book, which means the FMC will have multiple love interests and she is not going to choose,

Twisted Allegiance is the 1st book in the Twisted Ties series by Roisin Visser. This is the first book by Roisin that I have ever read but I was really surprised by this book and I greatly enjoyed it and I am going to be reading more from this author in the near future.
"This will be the hardest thing I've done in years. This is going to drag everything back up." - Eden
Growing up we were all warned over and over again not to get wrapped up in a cult, we were given the warning signs, told what to look out for, and told to be careful who we talked to and what we believed in. But, then there's that other side of the coin. What if you didn't get a choice in the matter?
Eden is searching for answers. She needs to find something from her past and she knows that she's taking a huge risk in joining a study group that is studying those who have survived and gotten out of a cult. But, to find the answers she is searching for, Eden is willing to do whatever she has to and take whatever risk or challenge she needs to to get the answers she is searching for.
Eden together with her best friend Blaine ends up getting dragged into things that neither one of them were prepared for. Slowly new people join their team, but they question if they can actually trust those who have joined them. And what exactly does everyone expect the end goal to be? And will Eden be able to keep her past a secret as long as she needs to so she can get what she really needs, even if keeping her past a secret could put everyone in jeopardy?
"In what universe do I get myself in the middle of this study and feel attracted to multiple guys?" - Eden
I really loved the universe that Rosin created here. And yes, this is a darker read. And the focus is on cults and the people who get out of them and what they go through once they can get out of said cult. It also focuses on the people who seek help to get out of the cult mindset and find a way to reenter society. I just have to say that Rosin did an amazing job in her research into not only cults but also how people get out of them, how they get help, and how they manage to reenter society. Her research was just stunning and I was just amazed by it.
Eden has a past that is not easy, it's heavy and filled with both physical and mental abuse, although it leaned more on the physical side. Something from Eden's past attaches her to the world and drives Eden forward.
Eden is weighed down by the trauma of her past and she doesn't want to talk about it because she really doesn't want to remember what she's been through or relive all the moments of pain. I loved Eden's character, I loved the way she didn't let her past hold her back, the way she was always moving forward, and how she discovered that she was stronger than she realized.
"It's courageous to keep going when your past haunts you." - Eden
Eden is always trying to understand herself, who she really is, and she's trying to understand the newness of her intimate relationships. She has a desire to want more than just one person in her life and she can't help but wonder if that is, okay? She has this growth and amazing determination in not only discovering who she is and what she wants and she works to try and heal from the trauma of her past.
I love how Eden is a psychology student and yet the study she finds herself a part of is focused on more than just the psychology of the patients who are part of the study than anything else. While I was reading this book I felt like this was more of a psychological suspense novel with a lot of mystery and I want to know so much more.
Eden actually lied to be part of the research study on survivors of cults. She was desperate to find information on her brother who had gone missing.
I get a great deal of enjoyment from books that make me think. I love romantasy, fantasy, and fiction. But, when a book asks questions and there are situations presented that get you wondering, those are books that I enjoy. Cults are intense when you start to think about how they are formed, how people are lured into them, tricked and brainwashed into believing that the way of the cult is the only way, and then how those same people eventually get out and reenter society, those are all heavy things.
While I haven't been a part of a cult, I could understand from a religious POV how religion could be turned into a tactic for brainwashing and fear. You are free to believe what you want to, but the moment it turns into this method of control and suddenly you find that your beliefs are being forced onto others... and that is not OK. I was really very intrigued and very shocked by how well each of the characters were portrayed, and it got me thinking scary things could happen to all of them in the name of this religion. Also, the erratic purity culture beliefs that we saw displayed in this book.
I found Keir to be a very interesting character and honestly, while he was a sociopath I still loved him, yeah I know, I need therapy. I just found his mind to be incredible, his personality to be stunning and he just drew me to him. He was intelligent and I loved the way that he kept everyone on their toes. Keir had this great demeanour. I just wanted to curl up on the couch under a big comfy comforter and cuddle up as we watched a great Disney movie. I think that he just needed someone to love him and give him a big hug.
I loved Eden's love interests even though some of them were kind of iffy and I wasn't too sure about them. And honestly, I am really curious to see how their characters are going to develop through the series. I really like how the group dynamic isn't instant and each of the guys are approaching Eden at their own pace and at their own comfort level. And there's the fact that some of the guys keep screwing up and the entire group isn't even fully together yet. And I do love that because this is a why choose book, we get several different tropes in this book and I love that.
On top of everything else that Eden is dealing with, she doesn't know that she has a stalker.
Yes, the slow burn is there but there is more than just that trope to this book and you're not going to be unsatisfied. We have MFM, MF, MFMM, MMFM, solo, and there is even some voyeurism. I love that we get some bisexual rep (I am bi so I love that rep.), there is sword crossing and I will be honest that there is more than that. Two big scenes were perfectly written and had me breathing hard and curling my toes. I just loved how it all was written.
So, there is some language in this book that isn't for everyone and it goes along with the violence that can be rather graphic. With so many characters who have dark pasts and questions being asked about characters' pasts lived within the confines of a cult. Questions about brainwashing, abuse (both mental and physical), descriptions about said abuse, blood mentioned, dr*g use for recreational purposes and non-recreational purposes, and some of the drugs that are mentioned are the harder and heavier ones that scare me.
Several of the cults in this book were putting up good fronts and hiding what they were really doing to hide their darker sides. This is such a dark read and the psychology of this book could actually be fascinating and rather haunting for some readers who enjoy this kind of book.
I loved and greatly enjoyed getting to read this book from all the different POVs and there were a couple that surprised me and got me really excited. I loved it when I got the opportunity to dive into the minds of other characters and get to see things from other characters' points of view and it allows me to feel more connected to them and I find I get to know them better. And I loved some of the backstories and flashbacks that we got absolutely broke my heart and got me wondering how anyone could ever sanely do those kinds of things like what was done to the MCs.
And that ending, OMG the cliffhanger really got me in the end, and now I NEED to know what exactly is going to happen next. My God, Rosin Visser just took us and threw us off the cliff with the ending of this book.
Now I have just two questions. Who in the world is Eden really? And who are the Lassiter's and what do they want?
If you are a lover of why choose romance, suspense, terrifying pasts, uncertain futures, psychology then this is the book for you and I recommend it.
I really enjoyed Rosin Visser's writing and I can't wait to read book 2 in this series and I am going to be diving into her other books.
"This will be the hardest thing I've done in years. This is going to drag everything back up." - Eden
You know how we are all told/warned not to get wrapped up in a cult? Be careful who you talk to and what you believe. What happens if you had never gotten a real choice? Eden's in search of answers regarding something from her past, she's taking a big risk with joining the study group. But she will willingly take any risk or challenge to get what she seeks!
Eden and her best friend get tied into things neither of them were prepared for. Some new faces are joining their duo team, but can the new people actually be trusted? What's the end goal for everyone? And can Eden keep her past a secret long enough to get what she needs, regardless of how many things could be placed in jeopardy?
"In what universe do I get myself in the middle of this study and feel attracted to multiple guys?" - Eden
A universe I would be interested in. . . I was not fully prepared for everything that was inside this read! The author just asked if I had any trigger warnings and I said no, now here I am! Fair warning there are several trigger warnings in this read and I will mention some of them throughout.
Let's address the elephant in the room. This book is a darker read and the focus is on cults and what happens when people get out of cults and try to get help so they can reenter into society. Some of the things and pasts mentioned within this read may be triggering. The author did a phenomenal job with her research for this book, and I was awestruck by it all!
Eden's past is one that is extremely heavy and filled with abuse. Physical and mental abuse, leaning more on the physical side. There's something from her past that drives her forward and keeps her attached to the world. Trauma heavy and not wanting to talk about it because she doesn't want to remember or relive the moments. I enjoyed Eden's character and how she's striving to move forward.
"It's courageous to keep going when your past haunts you." - Eden
She's trying to understand herself and the newness of intimate relationships. The desire to want more than one person and if that is, okay? Her growth and determination along with trying to heal from her past. I like how she's a psychology student and the study she's a part of is focused more on the psychology of the patients than anything else. I felt like this was a psychological suspense read with so much mystery and wanting to know more.
Books that make you think are something I enjoy the most! I love fiction but I thoroughly love when questions and situations are presented that have you wondering. It's intense to think of how cults are formed and how people are lured into them. Tricked and brainwashed into believing this is the way and the only way.
I could relate a bit to one of the characters and how religion was turned into a brainwashing and fear tactic. Believe what you want, but when it turns into a method of control and forcing your beliefs onto others. . .that's not okay. I was intrigued and shocked by how well the character was portrayed, how scary things can get all for the name of a religion. . . Also, the erratic purity culture beliefs displayed in this read.
Personally, I will be needing therapy because my favorite character was the sociopath. . . His mind was incredible, and I just got drawn into him. Very intelligent and kept everyone on their toes. I really loved Keir and just his demeanor. I wanted to just roll him up in a comforter and cuddle as we watched animated movies. He just needed a big hug and deserved one!
There were some of the love interests I was on the fence about and just curious to see how their characters will develop throughout the series! I really loved how the group dynamic isn't instantaneous and the guys are approaching Eden at different paces. Not to mention some of the guys messing up and none of the group being fully together yet. We also get several different tropes within this book because it is a why choose.
Slow burn is present, but you will not be left unsatisfied! We have MFM action in the book, MF action, MFMM, MMFM, solo, and some voyeurism. Bisexual representation is present within the group and the guys are not afraid to do some sword crossing and a little more. The two big scenes in the book were fantastic and had me curling my toes and holding my breath. Loved all of it and how it was written!
Language is in the book along with violence. Dark pasts and questions being asked about pasts lived within the confines of cults. Brainwashing, abuse both mental and physical, descriptions of abuse, blood mentioned, drugs used for both recreational purposes and non. Some drugs that are mentioned are some of the heavier ones. Several of the cults were putting up big fronts in order to hide their darker underbellies. This is a darker read and the psychology of it may be fascinating or haunting for some.
I loved all the multiple POVs and was even surprised and excited for a couple! Loved getting to dive more into the minds of the characters! Some of the backstories and flashbacks broke my heart and wondering how anyone could sanely do what was done to the MCs. The cliffhanger got me, and I NEED to know what happens next! The author launches you off that cliff with the ending.
Enjoy this dark why choose romance with terrifying pasts and uncertain futures. Don't forget to give the author some stars!
When I first started the book I wasn’t sure exactly how I would feel about it. Once I got into the story I am definitely attached to at least Blaine and Luke. That ending though holy cow! I was like wait what the heck just happened! I cannot wait to see how the second books goes!
Told through shifting first-person perspectives—Eden, Blaine, Luke, Keir, Caleb, and X—this story pulls you into a dark, intoxicating maze of secrets, obsession, and buried truths. When Eden uncovers something tied to her fractured memories, she’s forced to confront the guilt she’s carried since losing her brother, Embry, twelve years ago. Her search circles around the mysterious occupant of 212D, a lead she believes could finally connect her to what happened to him—or to who he may have become.
Blaine stands steadfast at Eden’s side, the loyal anchor in the storm. Luke carries hidden depths that make you question every motive. Keir, shaped by a traumatic past, wrestles with compulsions that blur vulnerability and desire. Caleb enters as a soft-spoken presence with a blush and an intensity that slowly reveals something far more unsettling beneath the surface—especially with the shadow of his so-called avenging angel looming over him. And then there’s X—an enigma born from a laboratory experiment, socially askew and unnervingly unique. When Eden finally meets and names him Hutton, their interaction raises even more questions than answers.
The novel moves at a relentless pace, layering suspense with emotionally charged reverse harem dynamics that are both explicit and deeply character-driven. Beneath the heat and tension lies a chilling exploration of cult psychology. The portrayal of indoctrination, mental conditioning, and the painstaking reconstruction of identity after escape feels disturbingly authentic. The author’s attention to the psychological unraveling—and rebuilding—adds a weight that elevates the story far beyond surface-level thrills.
Eden’s childhood flashbacks are especially powerful, offering heartbreaking insight into her bond with Embry and the trauma that shaped her. Each revelation only deepens the mystery: What truly happened to him? Is X connected? Is he destined to join Eden’s circle—or to stand against it?
My feelings toward the men shift constantly. Caleb intrigued me at first with his shy demeanor, but as more layers peeled back, my trust wavered. If he can break free from the grip of his religious extremism, redemption might still be possible. Luke’s chemistry with Eden is undeniable, yet his silence about certain truths threatens to implode everything before it fully begins. Blaine is impossible not to love, but Keir completely stole my heart—damaged, tender, and achingly sincere.
By the final page, I was left reeling. The cliffhanger doesn’t just tease—it demands answers. This book balances steam, psychological depth, and high-stakes mystery in a way that keeps you questioning every character’s allegiance. I’m desperate to know where Eden’s search will lead, what role X will ultimately play, and whether Embry’s fate will finally come to light.
Twisted Allegiance is the first book in Visser's Twisted Ties series. This why choose romance features Eden Davis.
Eden grew up in a cult (God's Arm) with an abusive mother. Today she is a graduate student at Belmont College studying Developmental Psych. She and her best friend, Blaine Davenport, are working under Dr. Hart at Horizon Wellness Center to interview patients who have escaped cults.
No one knows about Eden's history, and she intends to keep it that way. They also don't know that she is on a mission to find her little brother, Embry, who disappeared one day and never came back.
While at the center, Eden and Blaine's relationship changes from friends to lovers, something both were interested in for some time but ignored. They also meet Luke, a cameraman who has been hired to film the interviews so that Dr. Hart can release a documentary on their research. Both Eden and Blaine find Luke to be quite attractive, and the couple seems to evolve into a throuple.
Eden also crosses paths with a patient name Keir. While free from his cult (XIX), he is still withdrawn and reluctant to share all the details of his story as he ended up being sex trafficked. Eden feels drawn to him but recognizes that he is a patient and tries to temper her attraction to him.
Eden also meets Caleb, another patient. He seems incredibly sweet and shy but he hears voices which he believes to be divine and has been known to hurt himself and others. Eden maintains a soft spot for him.
With all this going on, Eden's interest remains fixated on room 212D where someone only known as X is housed. She is determined to access the restricted area thinking that X might be Embry. Whoever he is, he is being protected. Who is he and what are his secrets?
There's a lot going on in this book, and I was quickly pulled into the story. I found the premise intriguing, and was definitely captivated. There are plenty of mysteries and secrets, and I feel like the author intends to tease us for quite some time. This installment ends on a cliffhanger and I'm keen to get my hands on the next book, Twisted Hearts, to learn what happens next.
Trigger warnings are important and so is your mental health. Please take care of yourself and read trigger warnings before you read any book no matter how much a review may tempt you!
I started this first book on Tuesday night… I finished it on Wednesday morning. I could not stop reading!! No joke, I was pulled into the story so fast and hard that I felt whiplashed. Eden is introduced as a student who is joining a research study for people who have just left cults in the Midwest. She is expected to help the folks while being part of a documentary, the problem is that she is actually from a cultish upbringing. The whole reason she is there is to try and find her brother. She is using the program to help her. Things go quickly awry as secrets and desires are uncovered as the students being to interview the participants. Eden and her best friend Blaine move out of the friend zone and into the more than friend's zone. Eden also finds she is drawn to the cameraman for the documentary. There is naughty behavior, a lot of it! Including some MM. While Eden's love life has sparked to life, the interviews are pushing more people into her world that she finds attractive. Honestly, I am still reeling from this story. Emotionally charged, deep with flawed characters, hot s3x with multiple partners, intrigue that has you anxious for more, and a pace that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Pick up this and then set aside several days because you will want to read the rest of the series right after.
First: I'll start things off the right way. Twisted Allegiance is multi POV, Contemporary RH, with MM, and all of the characters involved in the RH are well over the age of 21. And I cannot stress this enough -check your TWs. If you are ok w the MANY triggers, this series will suck you in.
The not so right way for a review: The Twisted Ties Series as a whole is plot heavy with a Criminal Minds intrigue feel that deals with cults, and the psychological fallout involved with being involved with cults, physical abuse, sexual abuse, trafficking, scientific/medical testing, and unaliving. The reason why this is not your usual review, is because I'm giving you an overview of sorts of the entire series. Why? Because Book 1 is obviously a book baby, and has some issues. There is some editing and sentence structure issues, and grammar tense work that needs to be done. I honestly hope that doesn't stop you. Roisin's writing matures so much from book 1 to book 2, and continues to improve throughout the series. The premise of being thrust into such an elaborate scheme through a cult hierarchy, honestly sucked me right in.
I see a lot of reviews complaining about "jumping into sex", etc, but if you've ever been the victim of abuse, or been around victims of sexual abuse like what you see in cults, hypersexuality tends to be a huge component. So that actually makes a lot of sense. I found a lot of the terminology to be accurate.
If you love to read dark, tense, emotionally charged stories with so many twists and turns, then you will love Twisted Ties. Just be a little forgiving w the fist book baby.
I found this book by accident and I am so glad that I did. I have only ever one other book that would compete with this. And since reading that, I've tried to find something like it. This by far went above and beyond.
I'm under the understanding that this a new author. This definitely is the first book I have read by her. And I can NOT wait to read more!
This is a short read. 174 pages. But you will not be disappointed and you will NOT want to put it down! I will highly commend the author for not making it feel rushed. Often times with shorter novels, authors tend to rush through and there is a HUGE disconnect. I am very impressed that I did not feel that way at all reading this. I was invested in these characters and this story. I didn't feel like there were gaps or that I was missing something. That was not the case here. The story develops perfectly and the character connections are really built up.
***TRIGGER WARNINGS*** This book is darker than I expected. The content could make some uncomfortable. For that reason, PLEASE READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS.
When I tell you that this kept me on my toes, I mean I was biting my nails trying to sift through all the possibilities and facts and trauma! This book is short, but it has A LOT of information that has to get unpacked. I can not wait to see how Roisin will share more details about everyone and their past. I hope the series goes more in depth and we get to dive into each of them!
I absolutely adore that not only do you fall in love with the characters, but that you get the chance to actually work your mind and think about people who were raised in cults and the different ways it could impact them heading into a more normal society. Each time you read a different character’s chapter, you are fully immersed into the way they think. You could tell who the chapter is only based on how they are written. It is brilliant!
I NEED more of this series and more of the characters! I can totally do like 15 more books, please!
The only downside to ARC reading is when you read a book and cant immediately read book 2!!
This book was amazing, every single character has a story and personality i want to unpick, they are all flawed and make you instantly invested in them. The premise is something new and i am eager to find out where the plot is going as well as how these characters are going to develop their relationships!
I am still unsure how some of the MMC’s are going to fit in, whether they will be in the harem, be a ‘villain’ or be a friend to the main group. I say this as a positive as quite often RH books can be to predictable! Im excited to see how the MMC’s who seem more indoctrinated into their ‘cult’ will develop.
The FMC is very intriguing, she has so many layers and in every flashback i feel like we get to know her even better, i feel the MMC’s underestimate her and i cant wait to see them see how strong she is!
I had the pleasure of reading this book as an ARC. This book follows a psychology grad student, Eden, and her best friend Blaine.
She lied to be part of a research study team about cult survivors to find answers about her brother. There’s plot, well developed characters, and so many questions. She doesn’t know she has a stalker on top of everything. There’s suspense, with a known Cult leader out and about.
There’s spicy scenes and emotional connections. I can’t wait to read book 2. I need answers now. Who is Eden? Who are the Lassiter’s?
Genre/Type: Why Choose Suspense APK: ARC Pages: 215 Rating: 5🌟 Spice: 3.5🌶️ Series or Stand Alone: Twisted Ties Book 1 Tropes or themes: why choose; bi-awakening; MM; MF; MFM; Stalker; FBI; Past Trauma Check Triggers ⚠️Murder; mention of rape; child abuse; drug use; cults✨
I feel like this author and series has potential. I am really intrigued by the premise - graduate students doing research/documentary at a facility that does re-programming/reintegration of people who have been in cults. Eden has her own past cult-related trauma and has some ulterior motives for joining the study. There are some hints of intrigue, but this story mostly focuses on the dynamics between Eden, her friend, a playboy cameraman it’s secrets, and 3 patients in the facility. I did feel like the relationships, especially he intimate parts, happened very suddenly and I didn’t really feel the emotion behind it. Also - and this is likely largely because I work in a mental health field - I really felt like the relationships with the patients - especially Caleb - was unethical. The story did hold my interest and I finished it in one night. I will likely keep an eye out for book 2.
This was an interesting first book. It's a dark romance set at a facility for patients that had been in cults their entire lives. Eden and Blaine are grad students and are doing a summer study program about people that got away from the cult life. But Eden has a secret. She was raised in a cult until she was 12 years old. She came to this study to find out what happened to her little brother. While there she begins to feel attraction to multiple people. Her best friend Blaine, Luke the cameraman with a secret, and three patients. Caleb, Keir and X. All three have trauma from the various cults they grew up in and X's dad is still out there looking for his son that he couldn't manage to kill. I liked the premise of the book and I think if it had been a little more fleshed out it could be a 4 or 5 star read.
Not my kind of book. It made me think of Jean Auel's Clan of the Cave Bear... where every 50 or so pages she "threw in" a sexual scene. The first time is sensual, the second interesting, the third band so on are just fillers. I loved the story and would just flip through until the story picked up again. I avoid "explicit" content... this book was more erotica sex than story. The "story, plot, and possible resolution" are the elements I want in a book. The stories were hinted at... just barely a beginning. Won't be reading more but that's just me. I gave it three stars because I didn't know what reverse harem meant or any of the acronyms and the author was writing for someone other than me. Not their fault, but mine. The bones of a good story were there, it just got lost.
Twisted Allegiance pulled me in right from the start and didn’t let go. I loved the mix of dark romance, suspense, and psychological depth — the cult recovery setting was unique and gave the story a chilling edge. Eden is such a strong yet broken main character, and watching her navigate her past while forming messy, complicated relationships made the book impossible to put down.
The pacing was fast, the tension never let up, and the romance was raw, emotional, and deliciously twisted. It definitely pushes boundaries, but that’s what made it so gripping for me. The characters felt real in their flaws, and I was hooked on their chemistry as well as the mystery.
Overall, this was exactly the kind of dark, addictive read I was hoping for — and I can’t wait to dive into the next book in the series.
This is book 1 of the series. It is a first-person narration with multiple POV - Eden, Blaine, Luke, Keir, Caleb, and X. The FMC is a psychology grad student sent to a treatment facility for people that have escaped or survived a cult. Eden stumbles upon something and she goes on a quest to uncover it as it is related to her guilt and memories of her brother Embry. Eden lost him at a young age, twelve years ago. We have an undercover posing as a cameraman for the study. He’s actually FBI. Eden together with her best friend Blaine ends up getting dragged into things that neither one of them were prepared for. Slowly new people join their team, but they question if they can actually trust those who have joined them

Ok this book will take you through a whirlwind of emotions that are unexpected and mind-numbing. There is a lost souls feel to the book that every character mention is going through due to tragic circumstances in their pasts. You might not connect with each character on a emotional level if you've never experienced tragedy but you will connect with them on a carnal level of sexual desire and deviance. Roisin most definitely punches you in the face with the spice level and I'm not mad about it one bit. Prepare to clutch your pearls more than once this book is a ride you won't forget! My only issue is the writing style and structure that broke the flow too many times to not annoy but the overall plot was strong enough that I had to keep reading!
I think what I like the most is the premise. It is unique - a thriller about cults with a psychological spin. Not the same old who done it feel. Other positives: 1) it kept me interested - didn’t want to put it down. 2) descriptions and set-ups are really well done - easily pictured in my mind.
There was a little difficulty keeping track of who was saying what. Even though each chapter is labeled with who is thinking, the dialogue could’ve been a little clearer in a few spots. There were some punctuation issues as well that changed how some sentences were meant to be understood (interrupting flow IMO). These were the reasons gave it 4 stars.
All and all this is a really good book! In fact, I have to read the next one! Nice work!
Dnf (I usually don't leave major critical reviews but this was just so weird)
I was all in to the beginning of this book getting to know each character and their back story (Or at least pieces of it) then I reach about 37% of this book and out of literally no where There is a threesome It was probably one of the most unnatural scenes that I've ever read. Sure the FMC has talked about how she is attracted to her best friend and her best friend has talked about how he is attracted to her but that's it and this other guy??? I am big on spice but that whole situation had me completely turned off to the rest of the book I am truly bummed out I think this book had a lot of potential and it was interesting but that just shut the door and the interest I had on it
This was my first time reading something like this, and I ended up quite enjoying it. It’s a short novella, about 200 pages, but it goes into some pretty dark and unsettling subjects. Even so, I breezed through it in no time!! The cult stuff was so intriguing and definitely kept me super interested!
I liked how the story was told through different perspectives and memories, which made the characters feel more layered. They were all pretty likable, and I felt really bad for them at times. There were also defenitely a few things I didn’t see coming at all which was nice.
Overall, this was a really interesting read, and I’m looking forward to picking up more from this author!!

Holy Crap, nothing like leaving us with the cliffhanger from Hell lol!!!! I was blessed with the opportunity to receive this masterpiece as an ARC. This book literally has me speechless (which is why I've taken a few days to write a review since I finished it). Not only was it thought-provoking, mysterious, exciting, intensely emotional & still had all the angst & spice you could ask for!! I absolutely loved the way the characters played into each other's lives in one way or another & the found family that you can see starting to form. The 2nd book can't come soon enough!! This is definitely one of those books that will stick with you for a very long time!!
Ummm that cliffhanger is going to haunt me. Edens story is quite unique and the mysteries surrounding her and the cult she grew up in are definitely piquing my interest. Absolutely obsessed with X/Hutton already and can't wait for more from him, Caleb and Luke. Blaine and keir are also intriguing. I love the suspense vibes from this book and am begging for book 2 to come soon! If you like dark suspense, why choose slow building romance with intriguing characters this is definitely the book for you. The mystery behind Edens missing brother, Caleb's "communion" and huttons whole history are puzzles I cant wait to sink into.
I’m always a sucker for a nice why choose. I see why choose and immediately I’m interested. I read this book almost in a day and I will say i enjoyed the premise a lot. I was very confused by a lot of things but thought the book was written well. It had that nice touch of spicy and then on top of that the men were greeeat. I will say I was confused by the ending, but it left me interested in reading the second book. I think of all the guys I’m definitely a sucker for Blaine. I LOVE the friends to lovers troupe. There’s a whole other “couple” in the book I’m a little obsessed with. I’m excited to learn more about X!
