The second entry in the Familia Chronicle series has arrived, and this time, Freya's stealing the spotlight! In search of her soulmate, fate guides her to the Kaios Desert, where she comes upon a young king. Could he be the one she seeks…?
A story set outside the enclosed city of Orario this series has elements of war and slavery which may bother certain readers. Others may not be interested in reading a story focused on Freya considering who the character is but I for one am hopeful for some good character development along the way.
As the head of one of the two most powerful familias in Orario (the other being Loki's as are dictated through the Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? On the Side: Sword Oratoria series) and a goddess capable of making nearly any mortal fall in love with her Freya has her own problems including a bit of selfishness, a familia who are very overprotective of her, a curiosity she needs to fulfil, and a longing for someone she can genuinely love.
Of course in the main series her interests are piqued by Bell Cranell but this story is before he was even in Orario as her longings lead to her running away from her familia in search of her true love, her Odr. Along the way she uses her wealth and influence to do what she wants which just happen to help some people on the way and cause trouble for others as a goddess's whim is sure to do. :)
An interesting reveal of what Freya's familia is like; loyal (and protective) of her but highly dysfuntional towards each other. Pretty neat that Freya attempts to escape their smothering protectiveness and venture beyond Orario, and all this is long before the main story. Generous but palatable fanservice all around. There did not need to be short recaps between chapters. Will consider reading further.
Freya is annoying. I dislike her immensely. But as she is a prominent player in the series I figure I can give her a little bit of time. So far there hasn't been anything to change my mind about her, but maybe there will be some bit that makes her a sympathetic character somewhere in the series.
