With the help of her friends, Blondina settles into life at the palace, maturing into a beautiful young lady! But the scars of the past are not easily healed...and Amon knows the scared little girl is still hiding deep inside the graceful princess. With his encouragement, she sets out on a trip back to her hometown to confront her past. Except this time she won't be alone—there's a trusty divine leopard by her side! Can she finally move on from her trauma, and if she does, what's next for the pair, now all grown up?
"Once you've overcome your fears, I'll show you the real me."
Blondina and Amon are now grown up to the ages of 20 and 18. She's getting used to being a part of the royal family and Amon is getting used to protecting Blondina from danger. Blondina gets revenge on the pub owners who abused her when she was younger thanks to Amon encouraging her to do it. Amon has his coming of age ceremony. But, Blondina gets herself into some trouble while Amon is doing the battle for the new clan leadership and he leaves without finishing to save her. Will he still have a chance to be leader or did he lose his shot all because he wanted to save her?
I'm still on the fence on how I feel about Lucy because the prince likes her but what is the deal with her and Amon?
Thought this was A) volume 1 when I bought it and then B) I remember reading volume 1 after I opened this book, but I don’t think I did because no record of reading it on GR, I don’t have either a physical copy or a digital one and it’s not on Tappy, so I guess I didn’t read it?
Anywho, went ahead and read this one anyway and I didn’t really need the first one to be able to follow this one. Might have enjoyed it more if I knew more of the backstory and I think there is some contradictory stuff in this one, so not full marks from me.
3, it wasn’t great but also not bad, stars.

Her name comes from old variants of the Rapunzel story, she's treated like a Cinderella figure (hopefully A, but I'm definitely concerned about B with some of her dad's words this time), and she goes into the forest in a red hooded cloak. It's a good story anyway, but the fairy tale references add such a good layer to it!
In my review of the first book, I noted it was a Webtoon and thereafter ended up reading the whole thing. I'm not up to doing a play-by-play of what changed this time (unless the differences ever end up so egregious that I remember without looking up anything). I suspect what changes is there's a fan translator for the Webtoon, and for the print edition they get a proper paid translation and according rights thereof... otherwise, why re-translate it?
It's also a little weird going back to nearly the beginning and seeing the abruptness of the time skip again; spontaneously, the characters are all... seven? eight? years older without any sort of note* or way to tell other than suddenly their bodies are different (Amon's human one in particular, but also the girls have breasts now). It happens in ONE PAGE, too! Top of page: young Lart. Bottom of page: adult Lucy.
Also weird is the whole style of characters being like twenty heads tall (even as kids!), plus the fact the Emperor is regularly at least four heads taller than even adult Briddy, so he's like, what, twelve feet tall? and Briddy is 9 feet? Yikes.
I still like Briddy's self-empowerment, to go back and confront the people who mistreated her when she was an orphaned child. She did so without any real violence other than striking the man who grabbed her arm (though Amon did his own thing without Briddy's knowledge, haha), and she overcame her own trauma through sheer confidence and calm when handling her abusers.
Daisy the horse is also awesome, yes!
The series as a whole, though, is... well... I know from the comments that there's a future scene that they changed to make Amon less... awful. My opinions have resultingly changed accordingly, such that I don't think I'll ever seek out the original light novel should it get an English translation (and I haven't learned a lick of Korean despite having a guide on how to read it). I don't mind supporting the manhwa, since it's on par for the quality of story I like reading in general, and Amon is cute... haha. I just don't know if I want to squeeze it in as part of the collection of books that spark joy.
*I guess Briddy comments that she's *outgrown* her shoes, but that could be true even of a pre-teen Briddy.
In Summary My Gently Raised Beast has a lot going on–the Black Leopard’s sinister reputation, the Divine Beasts’ sway over humanity, the Emperor’s inscrutable attitude toward Blondina, the rivalry for the throne, Amon’s affections for Blondina. Unfortunately, all these elements feel disjointed so it’s hard to keep track of them. The story’s keeping my interest, mainly because character interactions are cute and entertaining, but it’s hard to tell what kind of resolution the narrative is striving toward.
The Review As you might guess from the color illustration, there is a time skip in this volume. After 45 pages, which are mostly focused on the brash Prince Lart developing a crush on Blondina’s attendant Lucy, the book jumps ahead ten years. But other than the kids growing into adulthood, not much changes. The Emperor’s behavior is as inscrutable as ever, and no progress has been made in the search for the legendary individual with golden eyes and hair. Blondina’s status remains that of a barely tolerated royal, and memories of her past continue to torment her.
However, Amon’s coming-of-age ritual sets things in motion. He commands the Emperor to send Blondina to the ritual to serve as his witness. It is a momentous occasion for Amon and the two other leopards participating and provides our first real glimpse into the Divine Beasts and their forest home. Even so, this excursion from the palace feels more Blondina-centric than Amon-centric. She gets attacked by bandits hired by her half-sister Adellai. Then Amon, who is somehow able to sense Blondina is still haunted by childhood memories, takes her on a detour to her home village so she can both overcome her trauma and exact revenge upon her abusers.
Volume 1 gave a hint to Blondina’s pre-palace misery. Volume 2 fleshes out the details of her life under the village innkeepers, who could pass for Les Miserables’ Thernadiers. Except the Thernadiers didn’t have to face the wrath of a certain Divine Beast. Let’s just say Blondina and Amon get their pound of flesh.
Having resolved that, the narrative steers toward the romantic aspects of the story. In this, Blondina proves both astute and clueless. She recognizes her half-brother’s affections for Lucy. At the same time, she mistakenly believes Amon’s also in love with Lucy when he is actually in love with her. Which means she constantly misinterprets his behavior towards her. However, the close of Volume 2 hints that Amon’s going to end those misunderstandings very soon.
A very cute Manhwa and I'm so happy this series can be purchased at my local Target and Barnes and Nobels.
Volume 2 continues the story of Blondina and Amon. I truly love their relationship, it's 100% adorable and I can't get enough of the banter. Amon is coming to age soon and he has to prepare for that.
You get a little bit more of Lucy, Briddy's friend and Lart. I didn't really like Lart at first, as the stepbrother he's not warm, but he's not mean. There's something going on between Lucy and Lart and I'm excited for that relationship.
Volume 2 ends on a high note and I feel like volume 3 will totally shift the dynamics of the series and things will ramp up fairly quickly. Volume 2 ends around episode 27 if you are reading the webcomic on Webtoons.
The cover with Amon being a full leopard is misleading. He only has that form at the very end for a few pages. I've seen the cover of volume 4 and that seems much more appropriate for this volume.
Near the end when Blondina is calling out for Amon in the forest almost made me cry.
I love Blondina and Amon so much.
This volume focused more on Lart, Blondina's brother more than in the first volume. While I thought it was interesting, I also just wanted to get back to Blondina and Amon hahaha. I will be interested to see what happens in the future between Lart and Lucy though.
Blondina's life seems to be changing once more as her father seems to be opening up to her bit by bit. Going so far as to even scold her stepmother when she dismisses Blondina as not being as important as "their children". While not apparent to everyone, at least some favor is clear given her invitation to the forest for Amon's ceremony and the way he protects her. Slowly is growing, and yet still clueless as she seems convinced Amon is in love with Lucy.

Amon and Blondina are so precious! And Prince Lart is now growing on me too. I absolutely loved this volume, as it pushes through some important moments in Amon's coming of age.
Blondina is as ignorant as ever of Amon's feelings toward her. She is, however, listening to Amon when it comes to improving her own life. The visit back to her old "home" (the inn) was absolutely fantastic!
And the end of the volume does set us up for volume 3. I fear a love triangle may be on the horizon.
this series is becoming such a comfort for me and i can’t wait for vol 3 to come out. i love amon and blondinq together so much they’re so cute. also seeing briddy start to develop her feelings for him and amon being so protective of her. i also like the seeing the relationship with her dad and brother slowly start to develop and am looking forward to more of it
I'm really liking how this story is turning out. I just really like how Blondina does not forgive who hurt her in the past and is willing to face the people who caused her so much trauma. Half Bro is starting to slowly come around and I'm interested to see how that progresses. Also I'm so glad the story just skipped over most of the childhood, especially in a romance series.
So does that mean Amon is clan leader?!?! Since he had beat the other two when Blondina called him away? Or did him leaving to save her equal him forfeiting?!
Awww, he needs to tell her! I hope that "My Briddy" at the end is enough to quell her thoughts that he likes Lucy better than her.

I didn't like this as much as I liked volume 1 but I did like it enough to continue on in the series. I didn't think this volume was as cute and fun. It lacked the sweetness of volume one. There was more focus on the beasts which was cool and we got more world-related reveals.
This book was gorier than I expected? Good for her for overcoming her trauma. Was she a bit mean-spirited? Yes, but I think she could have done a lot worse. It's nice to see Blondina use her power as a princess.
