Captain James Decker has lived a life of hunting, killing, and earning credits. To some, it hasn’t amounted to much, but to him, it’s led to him captaining the SC Fortune, a space cruiser with a competent crew that he’s grown fond of.
After accepting a bounty hunting mission with a beautiful blonde woman as the mark, Decker finds himself soon without a ship and a crew. But as luck would have it, this same mission gives him back what he lost: a new ship and a new crew.
This ship is composed of what seems like organic material, and the sole crew member he finds on board is the same beautiful blonde whose bounty he took.
Turns out that this woman is what is known to very few as a symbiote, and she’s one of the last ones left. She has a mission for Decker: seek out her sisters and bring them all together. While not a typical mission for Decker, the symbiote’s request, should he honor it, will lead to more credits than any planet president, let alone bounty hunter, has laid eyes on.
It’ll mean becoming captain of a new ship, a living starship, and seeking out the last symbiotes all the way to the cosmic horizon.
Started out well, nothing special, then wham!!! We got the girl whose life force was stabilizing the planet(?) So while the planets breaking up they have to fight their way to the ship that now can't take off because the ship isn't aligned properly, OMgosh what do you mean the defensive array is still active and BTW isn't that the planetary crime boss winging this way to blow us out of the sky.....just to over the top to even think about finishing, take my advice and hard pass on this one
This book was recommended to me by Goodreads (an Amazon company since 2013) but for the life of me, I do not know WHY I READ IT? The main characters are barely described. The author uses profanity too much in the beginning (as a poor substitute for a good story). The story moves and goes on but what is the point?? Apparently a Symbiotic species of biological beings are being hunted down in this part of the fantasy multiverse. If you don't remember your biology classes from middle school, symbiosis, by definition is: A close, prolonged association between two or more different organisms of different species that may, but does not necessarily, benefit each member. Like the tiny shark parasites that eat off of the back of some whales...One of the Symbiotes hires a mercenary (headhunter) as a taxi driver (similar to Han Solo and Star Wars, and how that story got started). Then she mates and shares her biological bond with the main character, and then gets him and his crew to go save the rest of her species. So, I guess the mercenary group doesn't take their headhunting (mercenary) business seriously (did not even mention the money). The characters, like I mentioned at the beginning are barely described, but if the Symbiote gal, looks anything like Carrie Fisher, then I'm yelling out: "plagiarism"!! Not much of a story. The digital book I read it from had the cover design wider than it should have (so the girl symbiote looks "chubby and short" Not any character summaries or descriptions, there are no maps (of the spaceship, nor a name, even though gal symbiote tells the "captain" that his living spaceship needs a name) Again if it's something like the "Millenium Falcon".... But you get the picture no? Or at least a hint or where I am going with this one? I really don't know why Goodreads recommended this book to me. There is nothing of value in this story for me. It needs a whole lot more character descriptions, reasons why things happen, etc. It needs to have a real main plot and clear secondary plot arcs. Every other line are dialogues between the main characters, but where is this story going really?? It is written space and a half so it's really about 300 pages short. Not interesting, nothing really new or innovative and I would have rather slept through it. I do not recommend this Fantasy novel.
Good read, slow at times as the story/world builds.
I wanted to like this book more, but the slow build and over-worded dialogue was hard to get any momentum going! The concept is cool and it's not that the main character isn't interesting and relatively good. It just feels like the characters overexplained and dialogue and try to be more than the story demands. The book doesn't really do a good job yet explaining the relationship between the symbiots and the main character, at times you wonder why he doesn't use some gifts he was given and then you think to yourself I don't even really know what those gifts are. The supporting cast actually were better written characters as their dialogue was simple and not as over done trying to explain simple things. It's a good story but flat. Very forgettable to where I'm not in a hurry to read the next book in the series.
this space sci-fi is very very well written. there is plenty of will building there's a antagonist and protagonist as well as the Sci-Fi aspects are well written. I like the way the characters are written and I like the way they interact with each other. there is diverse aliens in the story there's a potential life ending scenario. there is lots of action fighting Space Battles ground battles and with a little bit of spicy scenes thrown in as well. I am looking forward to reading what happens next to our Intrepid space Travelers.
Loving the story and concept is refreshingly interesting!
Don't get a lot of Sci-fi in the genre of these books, with most being fantasy or portal/reverse portal fantasy.
But it's an interesting and refreshing change, and Last Symbiotes is an interesting and unique story, characters and a tonne of thrilling action, adventure and destruction that has you not wanting to stop.
I wonder hiw.much hand to hand combat the .narrator of the combat in this story has . Then protagonist gets pulled off his chair thrown accross.the room goes into a back roll ,stand up has time to.look.around and draw his weapon then I guess he is either blind , has no side vision and no reaction time as hen lets someone kick the weapon out of his hand . I know ....it fantasy write a scene that is be!ieable. No.wonder he lost his ship
You don't see to many Sci-fi books in this genre but this one was very good. Enjoyed the Mc and the story. The Symbiotes were interesting and the different worlds and there environment was really well done. Liked the tech in the book. Liked the reveal at the end and can't wait for the next book.
Yet another amazing story but this author !!!! A joy to read science fiction adventure across a world both recognizable and foreign at the same time!!! A good mixture of hard and soft science fiction blended into a truly enjoyable story!!! I sang wait to see what mischief this crew gets into and what amazing women the MC will find next!!!!
A typical Si-fi told in a unique way. A couple situations were described quite well, others not so much. There’s a harem element, which I’m not a big fan of, but it doesn’t dominate the story. Lots of action, and the story moves along quickly. I would have liked to see more character development, but overall pretty good.
For this bounty hunter, just another job or so he thought. And then it all went south and quickly. Fun storyline, equally fun characters, and just enough spice to make it another Dante special. Can not wait for the next one.
Great read ,as usual my friend, but the other books( as wonderful as they are) started blending together ,theme wise. Still great, but love the sci-fi harems👍
I guess the cover should have been a clue. Too much focus on the lurid interests of the author. Wish I didn't download it. Had to close it and send it back without reading two thirds of it. I guess I'm not desensitized enough to think this style of writing is interesting.
This book was pretty good. It had a lot of word padding that I tend to skip over. I think if the author doesn’t change his style for book 2, it won’t be as good.
This is good relaxation reading. Full of good people and the right kind of villain to keep you happy. But it does need to have a better proofread the next time. So keep up the good work and keep the adventure going.
The story line is very good but the word uses of some of the sentences are not the correct ones such as using foul instead of the correct word of fowl one meaning nasty the other word meaning bird or poultry please check your thesaurus if you need to
Captain Decker sure is a tedious bastard. There’s the vaguest of explanations as to why he’s travelling the galaxy bonking every woman he meets, but not what I’d call a story. If you like endless shagging then you probably won’t mind that nothing really makes sense.
I enjoyed the interesting characters and unique abilities. The sfi-fi elements were also intriguing and engaging. I look forward to where things go next.
