Captured as a child, Rennah was made a slave by the terrifying Warlord Dathka Jen. The memory of their encounter was seared into her mind, and she would often relive the terrible event. His face haunted her, even in dreams.
Believed a malevolent sorceress, the Master and Mistress Kesten banished her to the dank walls of Rough Keep where the damned and unwanted were sent.
One day she is nearly drowned in a bath and dragged to the Main Palace Keep.
Amid chaos caused by the arrival of the Warlord Dathka Jen, she suddenly questions everything.
Can Rennah believe Dathka Jen's claims about her identity and the world they live in? A clash of three that should never meet and the loss of ancient races on the brink of decimation. Elf, Fae, and the veil between worlds that is no more, and all that stands within the void.
Can she run from him while sensing the threads of an invisible cord connecting them?
The truth will shatter the foundation of not just the region she has known but reaches far beyond, as the ground of the empire quakes beneath the man who will stop at nothing to get to her.
Loved the world building and character development. Would have liked to see a little bit more backstory in the beginning. The ending was great and can’t wait to read the rest of the series!
I have been so blessed by being gifted this amazing book! MK is a top-class storyteller as she leads you through Rennah's journey as a slave of the Warlord Dathka Jen, the horror of which is forever seared into her mind. Being forced back into his presence after being banned has thrown her life into total chaos. Is it true that the veil is no more? The truth will shatter worlds!
I won't give any spoilers but the meticulous creations of worlds are a beauty in their own right. They are complex, organic, and easy to fall in love with! The character development is multi-level and begs to be brought out further in book 2 of the series. I look forward to seeing so much more from this amazing author!
This book deserves more recognition. The author states Star Wars, LOTR and Game of Thrones as influences, and this story is perfect for fans of those, in my opinion.
If you've been lucky enough to read Mallory's work, then you know what an amazing and talented writer she is. I'm so excited to read her novel Wingless!
Looking forward to reading this exciting new book! M.K. Is a wonderful author. I’ve read all of her fan fiction. Excited to be able to follow her into the next level!
Excellently written epic that features nifty world building and cutting charecter development.
Dockery has an alarmingly authoritative, yet darkly compelling narrative that has the reader constantly looking over their shoulder. I don't understand trends and fashions, especially in the book world, but I do not truly know why this book is not getting more coverage.
A compelling read from start to finish.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely Captivating! Wingless by M.K. Dockery is a beautifully written, emotionally charged start to the Veil Series. The world-building is rich and immersive, the characters are complex and compelling, and the plot is full of twists that kept me hooked from start to finish. Dockery’s prose is lyrical without being overdone, and the blend of fantasy, romance, and mystery is perfectly balanced. I couldn’t put it down and can’t wait to dive into the next installment!
I was unable to get into this story or invest in the characters. I couldn't connect with the voice or the author's skill level. DNF.
The author also goes on rants on their social media that I find unprofessional. I've noticed this being a BIG trend with indie authors, especially on TikTok. I have stopped reading many, many indie authors that are unprofessional on their social media. Personally, I find it to be a huge turn-off. I will not be reading any of their books in the future.
A really intriguing story, with an expansive world and detailed background history. I would have liked to see more from Rennah taking over and setting her path in the stroy as I do think there were a lot of characters which made it difficult to follow, and at times I felt it was more about her being taken by people and being a victim to others than her setting her own story out. But, I really enjoyed the romance as it was built, and I'm interested to see more growth from her in book 2.
