Broken Shells: The Ashling Saga

Rate this book
It has been almost twenty years since the royal family of the Altus Empire was overthrown. Liora never knew a time when the Corvus family was in power. All she knows is scrubbing down the rooms of the pleasure house where she and her twin brother live as slaves. But when Liora discovers an abandoned trinket in one of the rooms, her investigation of it spirals into a horrifying nightmare as an epidemic of madness suddenly besets the city.

Forced to ally with old enemies and unexpected strangers, Liora must fight to survive and learn the truth about what happened nearly two decades ago.

About the author

Nathaniel and Nikita Edson (co-authors, though Goodreads has a hard time displaying both author names) met on Reddit as a way of collaborating on writing projects. Turned out they really enjoyed doing it, so they got married, and now they write together every single day. Broken Shells is their first work, the first book in the six-book Ashling Saga, and they're already working on their next series with no end in sight.

Epic adventure centered around a servant girl with an unknown past. Several colorful characters, easy to read. The story is as humorous as it is violent, cliff hangers at the end of each chapter, made me laugh out loud many times while reading. These authors truly have the gift of imagination. Looking forward to book 2!

Really enjoyed this book! One of the best books I've read in a while. It's very engaging and I didn't want to put it down. So glad I came across the authors at a local book festival. Excited to read book two.
