PTSD Radio #3-4
PTSD Radio Omnibus 2 (Vol. 3-4)
Carried into modern Japan from a forgotten past, the being known as Ogushi haunts and tortures humans of all kinds. Little is know about Ogushi's curse, except that it resides in an unexpected human hair.
Like Junji Ito's Uzumaki , PTSD Radio takes something everyday and weaves it into a series of chilling, cryptic, twisted, repellant, and alluring manga stories that become more than what they first seem.
The hit digital series finally comes to print in three 400-page compilations!
When you bend over the bathroom sink, you can't see what's behind you in the mirror. A gaping maw with too many teeth drags itself toward you up the stairs.
Skit skit skit. What's that crawling in your mouth while you sleep? Next, it wriggles its way into your ears, your nose, your brain...
Learning the origin of Ogushi-sama may help you find the answers you seek.
New horrors await in PTSD Radio 2.

I was somehow brave enough to read this at night right before bed, but god damn!!! 😅 This manga is absolutely terrifying and so unsettling. The imagery makes my skin crawl, the distorted faces really get to me. I love the style of this manga how there’s no real plot, we just follows a bunch of random people in the town who are being haunted by something we don’t fully understand. It just makes it even creepier because I don’t understand it and I love it. Can’t wait to read vol 3 soon!

While I'm still intrigued by the bizarre mythology being hinted at here, I do admit my interest is starting to flag a little as the series of barely-linked vignettes aren't really coming together into a coherent story. There is also a lot of repetition in the way the vignettes unfold, so seeing a bizarre face or image in the final panel of an eight-page simply ceases to be a jump scare or shock, it's just what's expected.
A handful of characters carry over from the first volume. There may actually be more, but the author hardly ever uses character names in the script, and while the art is good the general appearance of the younger characters kind of runs together and I can't always tell if I'm seeing a recurring character or someone new.
Likewise, the setting and time periods are always distinguished, and I'm a little lost as to whether most of the action is happening in the same spot as a village grows into a large city, or if it's a separate village and large city, or if we are seeing multiple locations all over Japan at many different times.
A good horror story often succeeds by staying a little vague, but this one is getting downright murky.
It still has its hooks in me, though.

"To take shelter in the sky, one cannot hide."
What in the actual f**k!! My skin is still crawling after reading this. It was so bizarre and unsettling. My skin was constantly covered in goosebumps while reading and I felt as if someone was watching me. I still feel that way after completing this volume. This was such creative horror that gives Ito a run for his money.
It was so damn good and I can’t wait to read the third volume.

Too much hair stories, but still a bit less than the first and second volume. But I still feel like someone is watching me 😂

Still on par with the first. I get that is can be pretty repetitive, plus still a little confusing, BUT I AM HERE FOR IT. I can't explain it, but even though I know some weird fucked up face will pop up at the end of a segment, I'm still like "what the actual fuck???"
Shoutout to the segment 62, the hide and seek one... A massive NOPE from me!
Onto the last omnibus!

Again… I’m terrified, I also don’t know what’s going on, all I know is this town is actually cursed with some of the creepiest things i’ve ever seen in my entire life. I’m not even being dramatic when I say i’ve been literally jump scared by this manga and how it’s drawn. In this story we see how the god came to be and how it’s changed, oh and now there is bugs:))
This is actually the best manga series I have ever read ( that is saying a lot).

This manga's graphics are SOOOO creepy. It's very unsettling. It makes me afraid of shadows!

In the last volume I enjoyed only about half of the stories and those in this volume I enjoyed even fewer of. I think an interesting story is buried in there, but it's told in short vignettes in which characters are haunted by something we miss out on a better story. Some of which don't pack a huge punch when you turn the page.

Omnibus 2 provides about thirty more vignettes of visual, visceral horror, though the shock is starting to wear off at this point. This series is closer to a picture book than anything else, as story is essentially nonexistent.

Il grado di follia aumenta in questo secondo numero!

I love the haunted world that's being further developed in this series.
The biggest gripe is that the artist cuts some corners in the art.

More of the same scares as the first one, not bad but also not very scary. Gonna finish this series as it is a bit intriguing and quite short but I gotta admit I wish it was as scary as the reviews led me to believe.

More of the same, but in a very good way.

Well, we finally learned the origin of the phallus deity but beyond that not much happens. 90% of the stories amount to:
“I noticed something strange.”
“I checked it out.”
*JUMP SCARE*
You can’t build suspense and earn a *true* scare when all the stories are 4-7 pages long.

And again I say, yikes! What did I just read? Some of the best horror imagery out there. Palpable unease.

Unreal, creepy stories which make you shiver in fear. Truly unnerving and I cannot wait to see it all come together, this book is better than the first 2-in-1 in my opinion.

We begin to know more about our setting, characters and Ogushi-sama in the second installment of one of the best horror creations! Highly recommend!

This series continues to be the creepiest manga I've ever read. I adore this series and am terrified by it.

Just compared to the first omnibus, it felt like the exact same thing so while there were some creepy moments, art, and page turning jumpscares which I love, it felt like the same thing over and over to me which got boring after a quarter in.
My main positives are just the creepy nature mentioned prior but also some more explanation of the themes from omnibus 1 I was curious about (hair and that eggplant emoji figure if you know what I mean).
Negatives were the repetition leading to boredom. Each 'chapter' was ~5 pages but most followed the same format where: character doing their thing, "I feel uneasy...", entity just vibing, analog horror jumpscare, chapter ends. Of course some chapters were a little more complex than that, but my described format is how I took most of this ?paranormal, weird, horror manga.
This was still a good read, but not stunning. I think I don't like this scattered, broken storytelling. I can't get attached to any plot because how short each story is; I understand each small plot is just adding small pieces to culminate into the big picture but what was the big picture here? Being lots of short stories, I wasn't invested in any character at all like a good example of short story characters I wish PTSD Radio Vol 2 could be like are Junji Ito's short story collections. With those, I'm interested and invested in his characters because there's a hook that keeps you reeled in but here, everyone is so generic and forgettable.
I had high hopes for this but nothing landed except some jumps so 3/5.

From the back of the book:
“When you bend over the bathroom sink you can’t see what’s behind you in the mirror” “skit skit skit, what’s that crawling its way in your mouth while you sleep?”
Thai is creepy and unsettling!!! LOVE IT!!
Man I’m going to have nightmares 🤪 Just finished reading this at quarter past midnight 👻 The illustrations are haunting and unsettling.. the whole novel reminds me a bit of The Ring..

When I read Junji Ito I never feel scared or unease. Ito can be gruesome and weird as hell, but never scary. That is not his goal.
Here, Nakayama, follows a different type of horror that actually makes me feel unease at times.
There are multiple panels that really make me wonder if I should be reading this before bedtime. 😅
Really good horror stories.
A must for any horror fan.

3.5, love the art style and how you can see more of the stories coming together. The only thing I’d say is that it seems that most of the creep factor is just placed on spooky looking monsters with creepy smiles which can get stale at times. Overall a good series though

<3 Love the art and that the story is coming together

J’aime comment les histoires s’entrecoupent. Il y en a des plus ordinaires que d’autres, mais au final le portrait qui se dresse est super intéressant.

For fans of Junji Ito, this can fill a great gap if you’re looking for more horro manga.
