What happens when the king of casual meets the queen of picking the wrong men?
Lily is running. From a dead-end job, a neurotic mother and all the losers she dared to date. Moving halfway across the world to Bluestone County seemed like a good idea at the time. So did reopening her estranged father’s hardware store. But now she isn’t so sure.
Small town living has its perks though. Wide-open space, clean air, and sexy cowboys. Well, one sexy cowboy. Jake. Who also just so happens to be the new bane of her existence. At least when he’s not talking, she can admire the view.
Jake is the king of casual. The love of his life has always been his ranch, and that was fine with him. He never really saw the point in long-term. But all that changes when a mouthy, blonde sasses him into oblivion. He should have known she’d be trouble as soon as he laid eyes on her. Now it’s too late. She’s all he can think about. All he has to do is convince her that he’s finally the right man.
Isobel was born and raised in London. While she’s a city girl at heart, she loves daydreaming about running away to a charming small town—though she’s not entirely sure her husband and son would share her enthusiasm for the move. When she’s not writing small-town romantic comedies or growing unhealthily attached to the characters in her books, you can find her reading, chasing after her very active toddler, or attempting to channel her inner domestic goddess in the kitchen (with varying degrees of success).
Known for her witty dialogue and swoon-worthy small-town heroes, Isobel signed with Inkspell Publishing in 2021. The following year, she released Love Tools, the first book in her four-book Bluestone Series. In early 2024, she launched Toasted, the debut novel of her seven-book Love Burns Series, which will roll out over the next year.
Thank you to Isobel Reed and KatieandBreyPA for a digital copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review.
Lily is the kind of woman who knows what she wants. She moves halfway across the world, leaving her mother in England and relocating to a tiny town in American west to take over a rundown store bequeathed to her by her recently deceased dad. He'd never in her whole life showed any interest in her, but she is determined to make up for all that now. Yes, Lily is a woman who knows what she wants, and why.
Until she meets Jake the player, who decides that for Lily he's stone solid marriage material. (This guy even gave me chills and it takes quite a bit to ruffle my feathers!) Then, Lily decides she doesn't know what the hell she wants.
This is a very cute romance, mild since Lily can't decide whether or not to take the plunge, and this indecision sources almost all of the story conflict. There are also some sweet moments during which these two main characters connect over their mutual past hurts and healings, which gives them both decent depth.
I thought the ending was too sudden. The book needed a few more scenes to feel complete, to give the relationship Reed had begun to write to fully take shape. The material also just didn't quite fit the overarching storyline, as Reed forced both of her characters outside of their typical character roles in the final scene. The lack of denouement just reinforced this rushed feeling at the end.
But, I still loved it. I'm here for the wishy washy fmc, the player-turned-hubby-material, the bad parents who make characters drink too much, and I'm definitely here for the bossy sister and the four-legged best friend. This is a fun, clean romance and I enjoyed it.

Well... this book answers the question of what if Samuel L Jackson worked for Hallmark. This is a closed door romance novella, short and sweet read. Book 1 in a series. There's quite a few f bombs, but that's really the only mature content warning I can think of.
The story is actually really cute, Lily comes from the big city to the small town after inheriting a hardware store. She meets a charming cowboy named Jake and sparks fly.
Take a shot every time that Jake says darlin' - no I'm totally joking, don't do that, you will die.
Lily left her life in London to move to Bluestone County where her absent father lived and died. Lily plans to reopen his hardware store and she is hard at work when she ends up meeting Jake. Something about his comments gets her hackles up and every interaction after has a sizzling effect for both of them. It's only a matter of time before they ignite and they could end up finding that missing piece for one another.
I really enjoyed this one. Lily is a hoot and the interactions with Jake bring a smile to your face while reading. Love Tools had a few surprises along the way. Definitely going to read the next book in this series.
Love Tools is Book One in the Bluestone Series. Lily has recently moved from London to the small town of Bluestone County after inheriting her father’s hardware store. Although Lily was estranged from her father and had not since him since she was a small child, she took the move as a fresh start. She needed to escape from the life she had in London. The city was too busy, her apartment was cramped, and she felt like she was going nowhere in her job. Plus, she found her mother to be too overbearing, and she found herself in one bad relationship after another. The excuse to run her estranged father’s hardware store clear across the country came as a welcome excuse to flee from the life she was hating and start over.
When Lilly arrives in Bluestone, she throws herself into cleaning the hardware store and preparing for it to reopen. Lily is wrapped up in cleaning the store when a drop-dead gorgeous cowboy walks into the store. She finds it hard to take her eyes off of him, but as soon as he opens his mouth the attraction rating drops drastically. Lily refuses to get into any sort of a relationship, especially with a man as annoying as Jake. Besides, she figures that nobody that good looking would be interested in her anyhow. Jake cannot seem to help messing up every time he opens his mouth but finds he is intentionally saying things to get a rise out of Lily. Although he has all but sworn off relationships, he finds Lily not only sexy as all get go, but he loves her sassy attitude.
Lily finds that she cannot seem to escape Jake who seems to be everywhere, including at her new friend, Sam’s, place. The two begin to spend time together as Jake helps her with prepping the hardware store for the reopening. As they spend time together Lily lets her guard down a bit and opens up to Jake about her relationship with her father. She is seeking answers about why her father abandoned her and what type of person he was. Why did he move across the country to run a hardware store in the middle of nowhere? Jake and her father were close so he may be able to give her some answers. As they spend more time together the chemistry between Lily and Jake intensifies and the attraction becomes undeniable.
This book was well written, and the characters were lovable and relatable. Lily and Jake both have trauma from their pasts that have left them feeling a bit broken. Both have all but sworn off relationships and have chosen to focus on other projects. For Lily it was the hardware store and for Jake it was the ranch. Jake did not know what love was and had only wanted casual relationships until he met Lily. No woman had ever made Jake feel like he could not live without her until Lily came along. Now he needs to convince Lily that he is serious about her and will not treat her like her exes had in the past. Lily has had one bad relationship after another and is scared to let her guard down for fear that Jake will also end up hurting her. The hurt, drama, angst, and betrayals from their pasts must all be worked through before either can be fully capable of having a healthy relationship. This was a wholesome love story with sexy cowboys in a small-town setting with a bit of sass, humor, and witty banter sprinkled throughout. A fantastic read that immediately made me want to read other books in the series.
"You can't change the past, so why let it ruin the present?"
From the tagline alone, I was hooked.
What happens when the king of casual meets the queen of picking the wrong men?
Lily left her life behind in London to run her father's hardware store in Bluestone County. She didn't know her father and hoped she would get answers and learn more about him.
Do you ever feel like you're not at home? As if you don't belong where you are? People would search for a place they could call home and feel safe. That was the case with Lily. She didn't have any regrets about leaving London. In Bluestone, she felt like that was where she was supposed to be.
Jake's romantic relationships were never long-term. Meeting Lily changed everything.
Lily and Jake's relationship didn't start on the right foot.
I didn't like how everyone used Jake's past against him. Yeah, he has a reputation. But people can change; their tastes could change. If anything had stayed stagnant, people wouldn't be able to grow and evolve.
As I was reading, I had to keep reminding myself that the author is from London. So, therefore, the writing would be in British English instead of American English. Which isn't a problem, but there were moments I thought something was misspelled, but it wasn't.
Love Tools was an emotional whiplash. And honestly, I don't know if I mean that in a good or bad way yet. However, it made me cry, so I would call that a win.
A lot of the issues could've been solved with communication. But then again, there wouldn't be a story or realistic if there wasn't slight miscommunication. Jake and Lily tend to conclude things without talking, and that's not all that healthy. Some of the inner dialogue was reasonable, but why not have confirmation before doing anything drastic? But to tell you the truth, even with me saying that about communication, I know that if I were in that situation, I most likely would've done the same thing. Is it rational? No, but everything can't be logical all the time.
The epilogue did an excellent job setting up the series's next story. Even with a preview of the next book at the end, I typically won't read them. I'm impatient and would rather have the whole book in front of me. But that is a personal preference and something I do. Love Tools is my first experience with Isobel Reed; it won't be the last! I can't wait to read Alice's story in Expiry Dating.
This book is freaking fantastic. This is the first book in the Bluestone Series and I definitely cannot wait to read the other books. Bluestone is a small, rural ranch town and this book definitely gives so many good feels of a small town. It features two of the most amazing characters. Lilly is running away from London, from the life she knew. She is running towards … Well she isn’t sure. She knows that her father, that left her when she was little, has left her a hardware store and an apartment in Bluestone. She knows that she maybe wants to know something about him, but she also knows that she isn’t happy in her real life right now. Jake is working on a ranch with his sister. He has never had a real, serious relationship and the new girl in town has caught his eye. What he doesn’t know is that his sister also has caught the new girl’s eye and they are about to become the best friends that the other needs. This new revelation complicates things, because if he wants the new girl he can’t do what he has always done. But he is also the first to admit that Lilly (the new girl) has a different effect on him. He definitely feels things that might seem like this relationship might last. Lilly and Jake have an amazing relationship. Their banter with each other is amazing. Each is very flawed in a very relatable way. I know I related to Lilly on so many levels. And Jake he just seemed so genuine. I also liked that Jake knew Lilly’s father. I feel like that really helped add depth to the story. I love knowing that this is a series as there were so many characters that were introduced that I really want to know more about - Sam and Duke, Lilly’s sister, Teddy at the bar. I love the small town feel and it made me want to up and move to Bluestone, it seems like a place that would feel like home.
Love Tools (Bluestone Series Book 1) by Isobel Reed - Review by Jessica Stone
The quintessential love story, this book was a fast an fun read.
Lily, trying to escape her boring, listless life and dead end job in London, moves to a small town in Montana after inheriting a Hardware store from a father she's never known.
Jake, a longtime friend of Lily's fathers, is immediately intrigued with lily upon meeting her shortly after she arrived, he's bemused by her sailors mouth and posh accent, but even more so taken by her beauty. Known as the town playboy, he's ready to give up his ways and settle down with lily, he knows she's the one for him. The only problem is getting to know lily and convincing her that he's no longer that man.
This book was fun, it's very fast pace, which I loved, the characters have a wonderfully witty dialogue, and though the book felt fast paced the relationship built between the fmc and mmc was anything but. The romance was slow and sweet, drawn out just perfectly. I'm a sucker for a headstrong female lead, but even more i can't help but getting sucked in by a male lead who acknowledges that female lead's abilities, and powerful traits.
All and all a wonderful book, definitely worth the read, not my usual type but wonderful nonetheless, superb writing and story telling from this author, can't wait to read more from them!
Love Tools, Bluestone Series, Isobel Reed, Review, Itsy Bitsy Book Bits, Contemporary Romance, Romance, Jessica Stone, December 2022
When the father Lily never knew passes away and leaves her his tool shop, she moves halfway across the world, from London to Bluestone County, USA, in order to get away from her city life. After dealing with bad relationships, a tiny apartment and just being unhappy, she feels like the move is the right thing to do. Take over her dad's store, reopen it, move into the little apartment upstairs and start over - and most of all, avoid cheating assholes and relationships.
But all of that changes when she meets Jake. Even though he really seemed to rub her the wrong way in the beginning, Jake never seemed to give up perusing her. And she had to admit, he was extremely good looking and she couldn't keep her eyes off him either.
The only problem is that he admits to never being in love, never having had a relationship for longer than two months and Lily cannot help but wonder what kind of guy in his thirties has never had a real relationship. All she sees are red flags. They both have pasts that they need healing from, pasts they need to face in order to be together.
My thoughts: This was a short book. Fast paced and interesting. I liked that Lily is British and Jake is Southern. I get her hesitancy and I love that Jake is this sweet guy that refuses to give up. I enjoyed the read quite a lot. It was all about taking chances - for the both of them - and that was really sweet. I only wish their were actual spicy scenes!! 😂😉
This story was one I will definitely go back and read multiple times! Every page gave me goosebumps and made me love Lily and Jake more! From the spiteful verbal sparring to the undeniable tension and want for the other person, it was something absolutely amazing. We start the book by Lily deciding to open her deceased fathers store on the other side of the world that he left to her. Despite having no plan and no idea what to do or what the tools in the hardware shop are for. One thing is certain, she needs a break from her crazy family and the suffocating city of London she grew up in. She thinks it will be a nice new setting in a town where no one knows her, until Jake enters and decides to become the new thorn in her side. Wanting to get to know the mysterious girl proves to be a bit more difficult because she wants nothing to do with him and isn’t interested in any sort of friendship. When the tension builds to an unbreakable point and they want to try to be with the other person, old insecurities come into play, and they have to choose whether or not to listen to the doubt or push through and try harder to have a good and healthy relationship. Can they overcome their pasts and the others doubts, or will the stress be too much, and they decide to call it off?
When Lily's dad leaves her his shop, she figures it is a way to escape city life and find answers as to why her dad left and never came back all those years ago. What she doesn't expect (or want) to find is Jake...and handsome rancher who knew her dad. Lily has always been attracted to guys that break her heart, so she is determined to keep Jake at bay. Jake, however...is not one to follow directions.
When Jake meets Lily, there are sparks right away. He wants to pursue her...but his sister thinks his reputation of never having a long-term relationship means he is incapable of love. Sure...he hasn't been in love...but it doesn't mean he can't. He wants to give Lily the space and time she needs, but he just can't stay away. However, a miscommunication puts all progress the two have in jeopardy. Will she accept his apology after her proved her insecurities to be true?
There are two storylines going on in this book. There is Lily and Jake's relationship...and Lily finding out the truth about her father. Both are interesting and I enjoyed reading them. I like Sam and Ali's characters, and was excited to see the next book is about Alice. Overall, a good story that reminds us that we may be shaped by our pasts...but it doesn't define us or our futures.
I really enjoyed this romance story. The author does an amazing job with the characters and I really enjoyed how at the start Lily and Jake seemed to hate each other but the teasing and barbs they threw at each other was all building up to an attraction that neither of them could deny.
Lily changed her whole life, leaving her family behind to take over a tool shop her father left her when he passed. She has nothing to lose, she hates her job and her dating life is non existent as she always attracts the wrong guys. What she doesn't expect is to meet a guy and not just any guy. Jake is a guy with so many red flags she should run in the opposite direction screaming.
Jake has never had a serious relationship. He's known as a bit of a ladies man and he's happy with that. Until he meets Lily. He's never felt about a woman the way he does about Lily but how can he prove to her that he is the man for her and not the womaniser she thinks him to be.
This is a slow burn romance where the attraction is there but both Lily and Jake need to work through their past relationships and pains to be able to full let the other person in. Their connection is fun to read as they constantly push and pull each other.
Love Tools is a romance story about a lost girl, Lily, from London who tries to rediscover herself in Bluestone County, USA. Lily's estranged father left her his hardware store to run. Lily wasn't happy in London lately so the change came at a good time. As she is trying to adjust to her new life in a small town, she runs into a gorgeous, cocky cowboy named Jake. There is an instant banter that stirs, but there is no denying the attraction they have for each other. They are forced to become closer when she befriends his sister. However, Jake has a reputation of a playboy who can't commit so is warned to stay away. Due to her never running a business, she runs into a little bit of trouble and Jale offers to help. This is the start of a brewing romance. However, can the two of them figure out their own baggage to appreciate the connection they have found?
I enjoyed this romance novel. Both characters were very loveable. They had great banter and chemistry. She was portrayed as a strong independent woman trying to find her way, while Jake was the cowboy gentleman with an edge. The build of the romance seemed natural, not rushed, and really developed on the page. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
Love Tools is a contemporary romance and the first book in the Bluestone series. It is funny and had me laughing out loud and once again getting strange looks from those on the bus with me. Oh well it was worth it. At times I thought of it as a rom com but then the emotions would set in only to need tissues but finding the tissue box empty. This small-town romance has something for everyone who loves a cowboy romance with sexy cowboys, strong and sassy leading ladies. There is nothing he loves more than his ranch and he is quite content with his life. No need for a relationship they all know the score up front. When an unexpected, beautiful woman comes to town it’s her dirty and snarky mouth that sets him alight. Men are not in her wheelhouse she is done, done with all the losers. Done with a job that is going nowhere and done with her crazy mother she decides it’s time to leave and find some place new. The beautiful setting of Bluestone County seems just the right spot, only to find a sexy cowboy who grates on her last nerve. If only he had a pause button. You will fall in love with the characters as much as the setting.
Love Tools is the first book in the Bluestone series by Isobel Reed. It is a really great contemporary romance (closed-door/fade-to-black/clean) with a small-town setting, a western element, sexy cowboys, emotion, humour, interesting + likeable characters, and just enough drama to keep things interesting. This is the first book that I have read by Ms. Reed, but if this story is anything to go by, it definitely won’t be the last. There’s so many laugh-out-loud moments, which made this book such a fun read- but, there was plenty of emotion too, which tugged at my heartstrings and had me all wrapped up in the ‘feels’. Lily was such a hoot- all sass and sarcasm- which made for some really funny banter, quips, and antics. Jake might have started out as the king of casual, not wanting a relationship- until Lily swept onto the scene and upended his life. She was everything he didn’t know he needed…. he’ll just have to convince her that it’s worth taking a chance on love. Bring on Book #2- Expiry Dating…. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for Alice and Brady. Happy Reading…
Were all the men in Montana hot? That’s what Lily was wondering when she laid eyes on the stud in her new hardware store—the one she inherited from the father she never knew. Most of the town people would’ve figured she would’ve turned the store into something girly. Like a girl can’t learn anything about tools. How could she abandon her life in London for some shop in the middle of nowhere? The reasons didn’t matter. Her only focus was getting the shop up and running. She did not need a man, especially some cocky SOB like Jake. Nope, she was on a Man Strike.
Of course, that’s what they always say. But the two undoubtedly get closer as he helps her get the store going and find out more about her father. But could there really be something between them? “The words ‘emotionally unavailable’ and ‘womanizer’ sprang to mind.” Still, the chemistry between Jake and Lily was positively charged. I especially liked the riding lesson on the same horse. And who wouldn’t get turned on by getting lifted over a cowboy’s shoulder?
Story is a fun ride of love, drama, and insecurities. It’s a sweet, ole’ fashioned romance. An enjoyable read!
Enjoyable contemporary romance between two people whom are trying to find their way....with some family past that continues to hurt.
Lily, down on her luck with a job and not going anywhere in life, decides to pick up and leave for a little hardware shop in Bluestone that her late estranged father left her. Lily wants to work hard to be successful and also put together pieces of a puzzle on why her father left. When Lily runs into Jake, a local cowboy with stunning looks..at first the banter of back and forth...Lily did not want any relationship let alone to get to know Jake. Lily has bad luck in romance, Jake never had a long term romance...but when they finally left down their guard....the chemistry and sparks ignite. All Jake needs to do is tell Lily how he feels and prove to her he is not just the same type of guy she is used to dating....but will Lily trust again in Jake?
This is definitely an emotional roller coaster of romance, heartbreak, family drama and sizzle all wrapped up in a small town romance. This story is very enjoyable and I really loved both Jake and Lily...as I was rooting for them for a HEA...I am already looking forward to book #2!
Oh my gosh I’m just loving this cover !!!! The dedication made me chuckle and think of my peeps when I’m reading because I’m forever sharing ❣️📚😉
Lilly inherits a hardware store from her estranged father , there’s an apartment above so her home is also sorted but is this English rose going to survive Montana !? 😉
“ Malbro man “ aka Jake and Lilly ( sweetheart ) get off to a rocky start but entertaining I must add but having said that I see the attraction small town living will have as opposed to city living and I’d like to quote a little bit of perfection “She wasn’t completely sure why , but she knew in her heart that Bluestone was where she needed to be “
Lilly makes friends with Sam and I just adore her I wouldn’t mind having her as my friend ❣️
Sam is Jakes’s sister so when Lilly gets invited to the weekly barbecue their paths cross again and let’s just say there are more sparks than in the fire 😉🫶🏼
I loved the people of Bluestone and Lilly and Jake kept me on my toes , we laughed and we cried and we had the most beautiful time together ❣️thank you guys for letting me part of you , see you soon 🥰
5 Stars Love Tools (Bluestone Series Book 1) by Isobel Reed
Love Tools is the first book in Bluestone series and is a wonderfully written Contemporary Romance that I freaking loved reading. I was pulled in from the beginning and I pretty much devoured this book in one sitting. I’m fairly new to this author but I’m definitely interested in finding out what other books they have written. This is Lilly and Jake’s story, she has a habit of picking the wrong men to date and now finds herself in Bluestone running her estranged father’s hardware store. Jake has one love of his life and that’s his ranch he’s considered the king of casual until he meets her. Now he can’t stop thinking about the mouthy blonde and must convince her somehow that he’s not the other men she’s dated in the past. Can Jake show her what a real relationship should look like? Can Lilly open her heart and let Jake in? I highly recommend reading this fast paced story to find out what happens next. I look forward to reading many more books by this author.
An entertaining and enjoyable contemporary romance which kept me happily turning the pages. Lily is running away from a difficult past when she decides to move halfway across the world to Bluestone County to reopen her estranged father’s hardware store. Lily enjoys the wide open space, and clean air along with the perks of small town living, and the sexy cowboys. One in particular, Jake is the bane of her existence, but very good to look at. Jake has a reputation and is known as the king of casual, his life has always been his ranch and so he never really saw the point in a long-term relationship. Then he meets Lily, and she’s all he can think about, and he’s determined to convince her that he is finally the right man for her. The author has a unique writing style which kept me hooked from start to finish. This is a heartwarming sweet romance, and the chemistry between Lily and Jake really came across in the narrative. The descriptive narrative brought the small town setting vividly to life, making me feel immersed in the story.
Lily has had enough of dead-end jobs and dead-end boyfriends; she decides to seek adventures abroad and when she discovers she has inherited her estranged father’s business in BlueStone County.
Once she arrives things do quite go to plan, after a encounter with a sexy cowboy she thinks things are looking up but said cowboy Jake is more irritating in the beginning but as Lily gets to know Jake the chemistry is off the charts. Can she ignore his reputation, and will Jake be the one?
This is the first book I have read by this author and thought this novella a great opening book into her world. I loved the interaction between the two main characters, and this was a well written story to start this series off with.
I did feel a bit for Jake as I felt that he could not shake the reputation of the past and prove too everyone he had changed as a love and leave them type of person, but in the end the story weaved beautifully through their relationship and blossomed into a lovely heart-warming story.
I can’t wait to read the next book in this series and other books by this author.
I thought this book was well written and captivating from the beginning. Lily aaa left. Hardware store when her estranged father passed away. She picked up the few items she had and left her family In London to travel to Montana and see if she could Find out anything about her father. The first person she sees is Jake. A gorgeous, muscles cowboy who seems a bit arrogant. She’s immediately attracted to him but, dislikes him at the same time. Luckily for Lily it’s a small town and everyone is friendly and willing to help her out. Lily has daddy issues. Jake has mommy issues and well they can be a match made in heaven or a recipe for disaster. Lily’s new best friend just happens to be Jake’s sister and she warns Jake to stay away from Lily. Jake finds it hard to stay away from her and can’t stop thinking of her. Can he be the man she needs or will she just be a passing fling for him? Sweet read that can and will capture your heart. Do good guys still exist out there or is Jake just acting like one?
This is a great contemporary romance that I really enjoyed reading. I hadn’t read any of this author’s work before and I was really pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed reading this story. Lily has moved from the hustle and bustle of London, a city with a population of over 8 million people to live in small town Bluestone County. Jake has lived in Bluestone County all his life and is a true country boy at heart. Lily is sworn off dating the same loser types she’s always dated and Jake is a known womaniser, the opposite of what she wants. It’s definitely not a case of love at first sight. In fact, Lily seriously dislikes Jake at their first meeting. I really enjoyed reading Jake and Lily’s story. The banter between them makes for some fun reading as they bicker over the slightest thing, pushing each other’s buttons. Lily and Jake are both great characters that I really enjoyed reading about. They are both characters that you can easily relate to and I could have read about them for much longer. All in all this is a great read that I’d definitely recommend to others.
This is the first book I've read by the author. Love Tools is an amazing first read. The author has a way with the words written. I finished this within an hour so that should say something. This is the first book in the Bluestone Series.
Jake goes in to check on the store his friend owned when he was alive. He runs into someone new to him. He's shocked to learn that his friend was a dad and his daughter is hot. The quote I chose for Jake is: “Um, he was a good guy. Quiet. Liked to keep himself to himself, but he had a good heart.”
Lily moved to where her dad lived to find out who he was. She didn't expect to run into someone on her first day in town. Montana does their guys right. She doesn't know how to react to him. The quote I chose for Lily is: “You have a dad, Ali, a real dad. I have a stepdad and a dead biological father who left and never said why. If you were me, wouldn’t you want answers?”
Highly recommended for Contemporary Romance lovers.
This novel follows the story of Lily, on her quest for the truth of her past and new beginnings. After she learns of her father’s passing, she learns that she has inherited his tool store in Bluestone County, Montana. Even though she has no clue about selling tools or business, a new beginning from her London upbringing sounds quite appealing. She ends up connecting with Jake and his sister, Sam, who own a nearby Dude Ranch. Sam invites her to their ranch to learn firsthand tools to help her with her new business endeavor while Jake starts developing an attraction towards Lily. After Lily’s many failed relationships, she seems a bit hesitant on Jake’s advances and shies away from any of his attempts. Reed has such an immediate way of writing to enthrall her readers into this great story. It is such an enjoyable and quick read that readers can fall in love with the characters and story line presented. When it comes to romance, attraction comes into play when there is something eager to be known about those you are attracted to.
When the father that wasn’t around leaves you an inheritance after his death. This was pretty much how Love Tools started. Lily, the female lead, was left her father’s property in Montana. Which included a hardware store. So she uproots her life in London to start anew. Little did she know where this would lead her life. Will she let the past get the best of her? Jake didn’t know his friend Matthew had a daughter, and a feisty one at that. She comes blowing into his life and doesn’t know how to handle it. But he intends on proving to her she’s more than just a fling. Can he not get redemption? The story the author wrote was cute. Full of stubborn and feisty characters to keep one entertained. There were also some snickering laughs along the way. What the author put these two main characters through demonstrated so much growth on both parts it was refreshing. I enjoyed it and look forward to the next book!
A sweet romance with lots of feels. The author tries to take you on a voyage of self discovery while Lily also attempts to find out who her father was.
Lily inherited a hardware store from a father she didn’t know. Feeling stuck in her life in London, Lily takes off for rural Montana to see if she can make a go of it and maybe discover who her father was and why he left her. With enough bad break-ups behind her, Lily swears off men while her life is complicated enough with getting the hardware store up, running, and profitable.
Jake is looking for more. He has a heartbreaker reputation in town but that is not who he is. When this brash, golden haired beauty showed up in town, Jake knew that he had found the one. Now he just needed to convince her.
Darling story sprinkled with some great banter (wishing there was more British slang) and some decent laughs. You will get caught up in the characters and want to keep reading the series!
Lily is unhappy in the UK and upon learning she inherited a hardware store and apartment from her estranged father in rural Montana, Lily packs up and takes a risk at a new beginning. Here she meets Jake, a man who's never been in a long term relationship and is seen as a womanizer by his friends and family. The two don't have the best start but eventually these two cannot keep separate and fighting their attraction just isn't possible.
I did enjoy the small setting, the characters, especially both sisters, and I also enjoyed the author adding a lot of self reflection for both main characters. Lily and Jake are more similar than they expected and their bond becomes solidified because of similar traumas. There were certain parts where Jake seemed a bit too jealous, needy and controlling but it was just a few snippets where I read the story and his character this way. This was a good start to a series I definitely want to continue.
City girl, Lily, meets country boy, Jake. This was a fun romp through the relationship between them. Lily came back to take over her father’s hardware store. Jake is a macho stud with an attitude. The chemistry is there but Lily is from London so through in some culture shock and you have a bit of the funniest romance. Lily has some issues to take care of. She has some family that has guilting down to a T. Jake has his won issues. Watching them develop this relationship shows how love takes two and the right tools to make things work. Will it work? Can they move forward through their issues? Gotta read it to find out. I loved the storyline. All the characters in this story are fantastic. Definitely fit the small town personalities. The plot ran fairly smooth. It’s a terrific tale that is a quick read for the romance lover.
Lily has had enough! Packing and leaving London to find her fathers business in Bluestone County was in her sights. Finding her fathers tool shop, she is bound and determined to reopen and make a living for herself. Jake, sexy as all get out, owns his ranch and is the love of his life. Until he comes across a sassy mouthed blond who crosses his path. Can these two unlikely people come together in this romantic series? I give no spoilers, other than tell you to read this story. This series starter is well written and easy to follow. Lily is strong and independent and is determined to do it on her own. I fell in love with all of the characters in this romance. Yes I laughed, cried and even got mad, but it was all worth it in the end. This author's story is well worth the read and I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
So while I enjoyed this story I also had a few issues with it. It is a fast paced read that easily held my interest. The storyline is a bit different and I liked that but also felt choppy at times. I felt like the author was throwing random problems in to make the story longer. I feel controversial writing that because I did like the story. The characters are older (low to mid thirties) and I like reading stories about mature people. These leading roles bothered me at times because the language and actions of them it made me feel like I was reading a early twenties story. I was concerned enough I read the authors bio to see if she is a younger writer.
The main characters and story are good other than the above mentioned. This is the first book in a series and I am curious about the next two characters and what will happen to them.
