A striking companion volume to the Myths and Legends title, exploring the ancient origins of Egyptian society and culture.
Gorgeous Collector's Edition which brings to life the culture of one of the great founding civilisations. Companion volume to Egyptian Myths & Legends in the same series, this title brings to life the beginnings of human experience, the irrigation of the Nile, the origins of hieroglyphics in demarcation of land and water resources as the first people of North Africa gathered around the Nile to create one of the greatest and most enduring civilisations, one that fascinated the later titans of Antiquity, the Greeks and Romans. From these lands come the pyramids, the statues and the great Kings such as Khufu (reigning 2589–2566 BC), Hatshepsut (reigning 1478–1458 BC), Amenhotep III (reigning 1388–1351 BC), Akhenaten (reigning 1351–1334 BC), Tutankhamun (reigning 1332–1323 BC) and Ramses II (reigning 1279–1213 BC).

This book lures you in with a well written introduction talking about ancient Egypt from a modern standpoint, conveying as clearly as possible that it is necessary to look at archaeological evidence and historical records with nuance, to not assume things about past cultures because of present biases and all the other parts of modern day etiquette when it comes to looking at history. This introduction gives the impression that the book may actually contain some sort of contemporary science which could be used to acquire knowledge on ancient Egypt, but after only a few pages you're welcomed by the fact that all the material used here are just texts so old that they're considered history themselves. The information is outdated and the topics discussed are questionable to say the least. May it be about "the Egyptian race", the constant references to the Bible, as it was common back then to think of the Bible as a proper source for Egyptology, or perhaps even the white supremacist undertones in passages where religious aspects of Egyptian culture are deemed "primitive" and "absurd" because they do not resemble Christianity as much as some other Egyptian religious practices. This book was obsolete even half a century ago and is only good for having a laugh about how insane early Egyptology got sometimes. As an introduction to the topic, it's borderline dangerous to put out such material without giving the needed context to understand why these texts are written in that way and that some information is straight up false. Yeah some people may call this a scam... hypothetically... perhaps...
