He’s a city boy. I’m a country girl. He’s experienced, and I’m well, not.
Some days it feels like I’m the last virgin left in the world. We shouldn’t mix. So why do I feel like I’ve found the one person to finally give it up to?
Finding the right guy isn’t easy. Especially when you know everyone and their history in your small town.
I’ve all but given up on the one when I crash—in the worst possible way—into the most gorgeous man I’ve ever laid eyes on.
He’s a writer without a story, looking for inspiration. And might just be what I’m looking for.
All the attraction in the world means nothing. Our lives don’t fit. I want nothing more than to give him all of me, but what if I’m only his temporary muse, only to be burned again?
Can I give this man everything, or will he take it and run?

This is such a sickeningly sweet small town ranch romance!
Gemma is working on her family's ranch in Dixon when their world is shaken up with the arrival of Blake, a Hollywood TV writer. Blake's most recent works have been uninspired so he was pushed out of LA for some inspiration. Gemma and Blake's meet cute is particularly... crappy... quite literally. She accidentally dumped horse manure all over Blake. Despite the crappy circumstance, he allows Gemma to show him around the ranch. Naturally, he finds his inspiration again. Along the way, they strike a deal that Gemma will show Blake how to be a western cowboy while Blake teaches Gemma all he knows about pleasure.
I absolutely love reading Emily Silver's work & this one did not disappoint! I love meet cutes that are as chaotic as this one. I just couldn't help but laugh out loud, especially when they immediately started making jokes about it (including some light flirting). Throughout the book, Gemma knows what she wants and she doesn't let anything stop her from getting it. Perhaps my favorite thing about city characters in small town romances like this is the learning process they go through when they realize there's so much more out there than the hustle and bustle of the city.
Features: - small town ranch romance - virgin heroine - city boy x country girl
3.5 stars. Yours to Take is the first book in Emily Silver’s Dixon Creek Ranch series. This is an opposites attract (city boy, country girl), small town (she works on her family’s ranch) romance!
Blake is a Hollywood TV screenwriter whose recent show is now finished and his boss (and the tv execs) are pushing for a new show from him. His boss tells him they want a family drama and he has 3 months to get it done, or risk being fired. So he finds Dixon Creek Ranch and heads off to the small town in Idaho to write!
There he meets Gemma! Gemma’s family has owned the Dixon Creek Ranch for generations and she loves working there. Her meet cute moment with Blake is quite literally…crappy, when she runs into him with a wheelbarrow full after mucking out the horse stalls. But surprisingly, Blake stays in good spirits through it all and they hit it off right away. Soon they’re hanging out and they strike a deal: she starts showing him the country life ways (for inspiration for his script) and he starts giving her all the pleasure (because she has a list and is ready to no longer be a virgin). The only problem is the fact that he’s only in town for a limited time.
This was a sweet, low angst, small town romance! Things move pretty quickly for the couple, I mean the first time they actually hang out she ends up sharing she’s a virgin. It just moves quickly from there and is also on the shorter side (less than 300 pages). I wasn’t super sold on them as a couple, but I did like Gemma’s family and the ranch setting. Which is good because the next book in the series is following her brother who is a single dad (one of my fav tropes).
A VERY predictable book. It’s basically a hallmark movie with some open-door spice. (Possible spoilers ahead)
H is a movie writer and he’s experiencing writer’s block. He is encouraged to take a vacation to work on his writing.
h and her family own a ranch. H comes to stay there. There is an instant attraction between the two. She agrees to help him learn the ranch lifestyle so he can properly write a script and H agrees to help her with her losing her V and fulfilling her “sex-to-do-list. 😩😩
This may be just me but can authors please quit with the sex-to-do-list plotlines? So annoying.
H gets along great with her family. Both MCs start to develop strong feelings for each other. They both know their time is almost up.
Then the 3rd act breakup, of sorts. You knew it was coming. He has to go back to LA and she has no plans to ever leave her ranch. 🤷♀️
H’s script is a huge hit and they decide to shoot the tv show at h’s ranch. He goes back. I think 4 weeks in, H is living with her.
I am so excited for this new small town series by Emily Silver. Book 1 started off hot! We have Gemma and Blake, Gemma is confident and a hard worker on her family ranch. Blake comes to the ranch in order to get ideas for his screenwriting. This story is insta-lust, low angst but sexy as he||. The characters were fun and very likable. Gemma was a virgin and while it played a part in their story, I appreciated that it wasn’t mentioned an insane amount of times.
Yours to Take was very sweet and such a fun small town romance. You will get all the small town feels with a crazy family to keep you entertained. Gemma and Blake had a simply wonderful relationship. They have fun, their sex is fire and they have a respect for each other's jobs. But will they be able to make it work when it is time for Blake to return to LA?
Screenwriter Blake Travers has been struggling with a case of writer's block ever since his last hit TV show went off the air, and now his job is on the line. If he can't come up with a concept for a new family drama within the next 3 months, he'll be fired. He doesn't have the first clue where to begin until a friend suggests setting the series in a small Western town. Hoping to find inspiration, Blake books a stay at Idaho's Dixon Creek Ranch, owned by the Winchester family. He's exploring the property shortly after checking in when he quite literally bumps into Gemma Winchester - and the wheelbarrow full of muck she's gathered after cleaning out horse stalls.
Running her family's ranch is Gemma's lifelong dream, and with the recent departure of their general manager, she hopes to convince her grandfather that she's ready for a promotion. To make up for their awkward first meeting, Gemma offers to take Blake on a tour of the ranch, and sparks quickly begin to fly between them. The problem is that Blake is scheduled to return to Los Angeles in just a few short weeks, and Gemma's roots are firmly planted in Dixon. Will they be able to stick to their plan to keep their relationship casual, or will at least one of them end up with a broken heart?
The chemistry between Gemma and Blake was fantastic from the start, and I particularly appreciated that it wasn't just a physical connection. They quickly developed an easy sort of friendship that grew into something more as they got to know one another better. I also liked that Gemma was so clear on what she wanted and wasn't afraid to go after it, both with Blake and with her grandfather in regards to managing the ranch. In addition, the dynamic between her and her siblings was a lot of fun, and I'm excited to see where their stories take them.
Overall, I enjoyed "Yours to Take" and recommend it for all contemporary/small town romance fans. I look forward to the next book in the series.
*Review copy provided by the author. All opinions expressed are my own.
Before I go to far, the copy I read was a ARC copy I received fairly close to release date. When I review advance copies, I try to keep in mind that what I am reading might not be final, but how much leeway I give goes down the closer it is to publication when I receive the copy. My reasoning for that - if a book is close to publication the bulk of editing should be done. Anything still to come should strictly be clean up. Why is that important here - well, because the editing of Yours to Take is what kept it from being a 3.5 star read.
If I look at just the story and characters here - this is a solid 3.5 star read. Blake and Gemma are interesting, the meet cute is hilarious, and the premise interesting. There are obvious clues for future stories tossed into the world building, but it’s not over the top. Looking strictly at content, Yours to Take was enjoyable and had me a little curious about the Winchester siblings.
Editing (or lack thereof) cost this book the credit it really deserves. There are scenes early on that don’t make sense and seem like they were originally in a different order and moved, but the transitions not smoothed out. There are also places where misplaced information took me out of the story.
This isn’t the first Emily Silver book I’ve read, but she is a newer to me author. Yours to Take has potential, I hope the published version has the editing issues corrected.
Cute small-town romance! Gemma has been essentially running the family business for years, but her grandfather won’t even discuss or think about her taking over in an official capacity. That all changes when Blake comes to town and turns her life upside down. Blake is Hollywood royalty, being the son of a famous actress, and has made a name for himself as a screenwriter who is coming off of a successful series. Getting the pressure from higher ups for his next hit, Blake has writers block and ends up deciding to go to the Dixon Creek Ranch to get inspiration and away from the hustle and bustle of LA. When these two meet instant sparks fly that they can’t explain, especially since Gemma has never had a boyfriend or done much thanks to her overprotective brothers, but that all changes when Blake takes them on and can’t get his mind off of Gemma. These two were cute, and the book had some very spicy moments, and overall was a good read as my first book from this author. I look forward to seeing if we get the brothers’ books! I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Emily Silver is a new author to me. I’m a sucker for a small town romance series and this book was a TikTok recommendation. Well, technically the second book was the recommendation but I can’t start the series at book two. 😆 I’m a huge fan of authors like Laura Pavlov and Elsie Silver, that have written the best small town romance series’ I’ve ever read to date!
While I can appreciate this book as an intro into the series and a very cutesy, short, fast-paced romance; it was lacking for me. The plot was ok. The dialogue was ok. The romance was ok. The spice was ok. The 3rd act break up was ok. There was no groveling; no need for it. No angst, light read. Catch my drift? It was an okay read.
I am not loving this authors writing style so far but I’m onto the second book, which was really the one I wanted to read! So, we’ll see. 🤷🏻♀️
Gemma & Blake are such a great combination of city boy an country girl. I loved that Gemma is such a strong woman in her on right and showing her beautiful town to Blake an opening him up a life he never even knew he wanted.
Blake may be the son of a famous actor but you would never know that with how down to earth he is. Trying to figure out how to write again he decides to go to a small town in Idaho away from the city of angles. Little does he know the dark haired beauty was all it would take make the words come like never before.
Gemma helps her family run there ranch an loves all things Dixon. She had always thought her life was in this town an with her people but with her heart she wonders if it’s meant for more.
Blake falls hard for Gemma an the ranch life an it’s hard to come back to the life he once lead after seeing that things can be simple.
I loved that they test each other an love hard. They are the perfect match an make this story so beautiful. The family dynamic is so great and Gemma’s family is so loud an amazing I can’t wait to see the other siblings stories.
Yours to Take by Emily Silver was a small-town low-angst sweet and sentimental romance that I devoured in one sitting and couldn’t get enough of! This is book 1 in Silver’s new Dixon Creek Ranch series, and has everything I could want and more in a small-town romance! Gemma and Blake have this instant, meant-to-be connection, so I loved how easily they fell for each other. Gemma’s confident, bold, and sassy persona was so admirable. I loved that she was comfortable in her own skin, and went after what she truly desired. (Hello, sex list!) Plus, Gemma comes from a large family that she can rely on and confide in! (Love those Winchesters!) Blake’s charismatic and inquisitive nature was endearing His patience and growing love for Gemma were completely swoon-worthy! This is also a virgin romance, so when these two come together for the first time, it is HOT!
Overall, I loved this book! If you are a fan of a small-town romance with a sweet, lively ranch manager, a hot hunky screenwriter from L.A., a visit to Dixon Creek Ranch, a horse of a meet-cute, hiking, dedicated besties, chats with Gramps, fishing, storm spice, dinner dates, whipped cream steamy times, family dinners, Ghost Pepper Dick, finding your writing inspiration, and a HEA that will take your heart to the next level, then you will love Gemma and Blake’s story. I always look forward to more from Emily Silver.
"Yours to Take" marks the beginning of the Dixon Creek Ranch series by Emily Silver, a captivating small-town romance that delves into the dynamics of city-boy meets country-girl. Gemma Winchester, the youngest of five, finds herself working at her family's ranch but dreams of managing it. When Hollywood writer Blake Travers arrives to overcome his writer's block, their worlds collide after a rather unconventional encounter.
“I’m all in with this woman, and I can’t pull myself back from the ledge. I’ve already gone over with no chance of rescue.”
Gemma, a 23-year-old with big dreams, loves Dixon Creek but has yet to find the right person to share her v-card with. Blake, in need of inspiration, proposes a mutually beneficial arrangement to help each other with their unique situations. Unexpectedly, they find themselves falling for each other, raising questions about the feasibility of a relationship with Blake's life in LA and Gemma's roots in Dixon.
Despite initial reservations about the virgin trope, I was drawn into Gemma and Blake's love story, appreciating their opposite yet complementary natures. The book expertly captures the charm of a small-town setting and emphasizes family values. While not a fan of the trope, the chemistry and genuine connection between the characters kept me engaged. Blake's respectful and considerate approach to Gemma was a refreshing take on romance.
“We’re night and day. Black and white. City boy and country girl. Experienced and, well, virgin. We shouldn’t mix, but we do.”
The small-town atmosphere is well-portrayed, and the family-centered narrative adds sweetness to the story, complemented by steamy and hot moments.
“I’m suddenly famished and need to lick it off every part of you.”
Gemma's character stands out as a strong, capable, and sweet young woman who, once given the opportunity, excels. Blake, the city boy, learns to appreciate and love Dixon through Gemma's eyes.
In summary, "Yours to Take" is a delightful read, balancing sweetness with spicy encounters. Gemma and Blake's journey, set against the backdrop of a charming small town, offers a heartwarming narrative. I highly recommend the Dixon Creek series for fans of small-town romances, eagerly anticipating the next installment.
“I love that I have all of her firsts. That she’ll have all of my lasts. The last thing I ever expected when I came to Dixon to get away was to find love. That’s exactly what I found with Gemma. More than a story. More than securing my future as a writer. Gemma. The person I want to spend every minute with.”
Book one of this new series set in Dixon, Idaho, can be read as a standalone and ends with a HEA. It is written in first person from an alternating dual POV. Blake has been raised in LA with his famous actress mother. He has been a screenwriter of a successful show, but now he has a bad case of writer’s block. Gemma runs her family ranch and is the youngest of the five Winchester siblings. When Blake arrives at the ranch to try to break past his block, they literally run into each other, and nothing will ever be the same again. I loved how fast Blake and Gemma bond as friends who have sparks and chemistry. It doesn’t take long for them to come to a mutually beneficial agreement. Neither one expected to fall hard and fast, but they do. I love the banter they share. The heat between them is both tender and hot. They have steamy physical scenes on the page, as well as some romantic and emotional moments. Gemma is a strong woman who is secure in herself and what she wants for her life. I really appreciated that she knows how to have fun. I adored her. Blake is a hottie. I love his willingness to go after what he wants and the way he quickly fits into Dixon. Gotta love a hot cowboy, even if he is new to it. This was a book I read in one sitting. Dinner can wait and all that. I fell in love with the small town of Dixon and its quirky characters. The family dynamics are fun and realistic to a large family. I appreciated the work that the author put into creating this wonderful new world that already feels complete. I am so excited for this series. I can’t wait for the next book. I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book.
#yourstotake is book one in the all new #dixoncreekseries by @authoremilysilver
Blake: Hollywood. City boy. Determined. Blake is in a slump with his writing. Now his manager is on his back about writing the next big tv hit. Well, nothings coming to him. Maybe getting away to a nice ranch in a small town will do it. He got a lot more than he bargained for. Gemma isn’t what he expected her to be. She’s taking him on all sorts of adventures he never knew he needed. He’s not only found someone to help with inspiration for his writing but also a muse and someone he can’t get enough of. But what happens when his time at the ranch comes to a close quicker than he thought?
Gemma: Smart. Outdoorsy. Exciting. Gemma has grown up in this small town with no interest in leaving. This ranch is her home and her life. She runs the front desk but wants more. Everyone comes to her when they need help, family and guests alike. She didn’t expect to find a guest who was famous, and intrigued her for more than his status. She loved the time she spent with Blake and the adventures they took together. But what happens when your heart leads the way but your brain knows it can’t be forever?
This was such a good book! I loved these two. They had such great chemistry, banter and fun. They fit together so well. I loved how easy going Gemma was and how down to earth Blake was. Especially in a small town, plus the farmers market. Where else can you have a hazing incident from a special kind of ghost pepper enthusiast? Defiantly recommend and can’t wait for more!

A small town romance where a city boy and country girl unknowingly fall for each other.
Blake was stuck in a rut and given three months to write a small-town drama or find a new job. Blake heads to a ranch in Idaho where his muse strikes in the form of a sassy small-town country girl named, Gemma.
I so badly was looking forward to this new series and unfortunately, I struggled immensely with this one. I did not feel any chemistry between Blake and Gemma and felt that the story was a little chaotic and rushed. I hope this was just an issue with the advanced copy that I received.
I am a big fan of Emily Silver and her books which is why I was so confused by this book and hope that the next Dixon Creek Ranch is better as I have a few speculations as to what is coming in this series and want to see if I'm right.
Get ready for... small town, celebrity, virgin, fish out of water, mf POV... dual first-person

This sweet, strangers to friends with benefits story is book one in Emily Silver’s new Dixon Creek series.
Blake Travers is a screenwriter running out of options. If he doesn’t come up with a new concept the studio execs will like, not even his connection to Hollywood royalty will save him from being fired. At a friend’s suggestion, he leaves LA and heads to Dixon Creek Ranch in Idaho, where a muse strikes him like a wheelbarrow full of…sh*t?
Gemma Winchester has aspirations beyond being the front desk clerk. She wants to help manage Dixon Creek Ranch with her grandfather only he’s in no hurry to hand over more responsibility. Gemma also feels stymied in another area of her life advancement. Growing up and living in a small town means dating prospects are limited, which is why she’s still a virgin into her twenties.
So when fate puts Blake quite literally in Gemma’s path and attraction sparks, they strike a deal. She helps him learn about ranch life to make his new show idea feel authentic, and he takes care of the v-card situation and checks off some items on her “bucket list.” A completely casual, no strings, perfect solution, right? Famous last words.
I really enjoyed this new book from Emily Silver. She created lovable, quirky characters that quickly pull you into their world. The setting she painted from the ranch to the town of Dixon had me wanting to book a trip as soon as possible to see it for myself. I’m looking forward to the rest of the Winchester family’s stories!

What can I say about this romance? Well, it had 𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐘𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆!! Small town vibes & meddling side characters. Beautiful scenery & instant chemistry between the main characters. I loved it.
If you love small-town love stories that are low angst and have over the top swoony heroes and fiercely loyal heroines, then this is definitely the book for you. Blake & Gemmas journey is beautiful, full of firsts, and most importantly, jam-packed with undeniable love. I am very much looking forward to the next book in the series. Highly recommend.
What an amazing start to Ms. Silver's new series, Dixon Creek Ranch. Yours To Take is a small-town romance that is so captivating that I could not put it down. Gemma and Blake had this instant attraction although they are very different. Blake is a tv show writer, from the big city, LA, and is a lady's man, whereas Gemma is a small-town girl, who works at her family's ranch and has never been with a man. She loves working there but feels that they do not see her as someone that could be in charge. Blake is taking time away to be inspired and goes to Dixon and specifically Gemma's family ranch. The meeting between Gemma and Blake was anything but smooth and sweet. The more time they spend together the closer they get. When a proposal is made about teaching Blake the ways of being a cowboy and in return teaching Gemma about love and everything that goes with it, they are both in favour. Will hearts be broken when it is time for Blake to leave? Can Gemma show her family that she is the person to run the ranch? Not being able to put this book down, had me finishing it way too fast I wanted their story to keep going. Ms. Silver knows just what to write to pull you into a story and keep your attention from the start to the end. I highly recommend picking up Yours To Take and thoroughly enjoy Gemma and Blake's story. I cannot wait until the next installment in this series.
I’m still in my small town era and I was so excited to start the Dixon Creek Ranch series. Yours to Take was a sweet and steamy small town, opposites attract, virgin romance with a spicy lesson list. While romances featuring virgins isn’t always my cup of tea, Emily wrote her character in a completely different way. She is no blushing innocent, Gemma is a capable and smart heroine who just never found anyone worth her time in her small town. It was an aspect of the story, but not glorified which I appreciated. Blake is a total cinnamon roll hero, and their love story is very sweet. This romance was a light and easy read that is perfect to cozy up with. I enjoyed it from start to finish and can’t wait to continue my planned binge of the series.
In audio, Aaron Shedlock and Emma Wilder were perfect for the story. They both embellished the sweetness of the story without making it too sweet because Blake is a dirty talker and Gemma is a strong heroine who just wants to make her mark on the ranch. I really loved how the story developed and the insta-lust to love story worked for me. The ending was just what I wanted for their story and I really liked the resolution of Gemma’s struggles with her grandfather. This was a great listen while cleaning the house and I found I couldn’t put it down even when I was done and I immediately started book 2 in the series. I predict that I will binge the entire series before moving on.

Small romance, country girl, city boy, experienced, virgin, opposites attraction in every way possible. Blake has trust issues and rightfully so. His mother is a big deal, a famous movie star, model turn actress. This tends to make him a target for scrupulous people. He’s a writer and needs inspiration for his next hit. He’s in Dixon to find this said inspiration.
Gemma who has been in Dixon her whole life will be his guide. He likes Gemma and knows that’s she trustworthy. They have great chemistry and are just too cute together. It wasn’t hard work reading these two.
The story was ok, no dramas, no emotional roller coaster, a little bit of funny scenes but not laugh-out-loud, no tears to be had. Basically a nice read.
I really like Gemma. She intrigued me, and I loved how she would jump into whatever role was necessary on the ranch. Then there is how much she loves her small town, and cannot imagine living elsewhere. Plus her family seems like an interesting bunch, and I look forward to getting to know them in future books. Curiosity has definitely been piqued about the siblings who are not matched up yet.
As for Blake, I liked how he was willing to step out of his comfort zone to try and write this script/tv show. Small town family drama wasn't what he wanted to write, yet when he went on a research trip he found the perfect muse.
I fully admit that I struggle with these two as a couple. They seemed more acquaintances with benefits than anything else. I did like the adventures that Gemma took Blake on, but at the same time it felt as though he was just doing it for content. I'm not sure if he truly enjoyed those outings, or if it was just a box to check for his script. Even when he went to dinner, again it felt like it was just for his writing than actual connection.
The story was decent. The meet cute was funny. I liked our heroine and her family. My curiosity about the Winchesters will have me returning for the rest of this series.

Dual POV First book in the Dixon Creek Ranch Series
WOW! I absolutely loved this book. This is my first book by Emily Silver and I absolutely loved it. I had the privilege of getting an ARC of this book and I fell in love with the story instantly. ❤️
Blake has to find a new story to right for his executive producers or he may be let go. His boss informs him he needs to screen write a story on family drama. After brainstorming ideas, he decides to visit a ranch, Dixon Creek. While there, he finds inspiration through Gemma, who works on the ranch that her grandpa owns. Through their time together, they fall hard for one another and let me tell you, things get STEAMY 🥵. The chemistry and banter between them is great. But when Blake’s time comes to an end, will his and Gemma’s relationship be strong enough to work?
I cannot wait to read the next book in the series. I’m secretly hoping it’s about Gemma’s brother Mason and her best friend Ivy 🤞🏻.
I fell in love with this authors writing style and will be diving into one of her other series, The Denver Mountain Lions ASAP! ❤️
This was a great start to a new series. I love that it’s a spin off of both Emily Silver’s Ainsworth Royals Series, where we are first introduced to Dixon, and her Denver Mountain Lion series, where we meet Logan for the first time. The Winchester family is so fun!
Blake and Gemma couldn’t be more different. Blake grew up in the shadow of his mother’s spotlight and is now a successful screenwriter looking for inspiration for his next big hit. Gemma grew up in small town Idaho with four older siblings, trying to find her place in the family and helping run the family ranch.
I loved the progression of Blake and Gemma’s relationship. It was very low angst despite their differences and the fact that their lives were leading them down different paths. Their first kiss was probably one of the best first kisses I’ve read, it was sweet and hot and full of chemistry.
This was extremely well written, full of amazing side characters I can’t wait to read about later, and of course, centered around a great romance. Gemma and Blake were the perfect beginning to this series!
Blake is struggling to write his latest screenplay. He decides to get out of LA and ends up in Dixon Creek. He meets Gemma, whose family runs and owns the property. Gemma and Blake spend time together getting to know each other. They realize the other can help in the present. Blake wants his story to feel authentic and his city boy ways are not going to make for an authentic story. Gemma has a bucket list including losing her v-card. They both know Blake is leaving but as their time together draws to an end, they don’t want it to be over.
I really liked that Gemma knew exactly who she was while at the ranch and showed Blake. I loved when she read the script about family dinner and realized Blake had no idea how loud and chaotic family dinner with siblings can get. This set up the rest of the series so well too.
And bonus: it helped me fill my A-Z challenge, added another state (hello Idaho), and I get to meet the author later today.
It’s a sweet story. But after finishing it a day ago, it’s already left my mind.
