The Warrior Series by award winning author Rebecca Royce - Initiation, Driven, Subversive, Redemption, and Justice - all in one place.
Rachel Clancy was born to fight the monsters that go bump in the night. In a post-apocalyptic world, she and her fellow Warriors are all that stand between what is left of humanity and the monsters who stalk them. Her destiny seems written--fight or die. Until one fateful trip Upwards changes everything. Follow the story as one sixteen year old girl changes the course for human kind forever.
INITIATION Initiation is the story of sixteen year old Rachel Clancy, born with a specific set of genes that let her fight monsters, she has trained her entire life to kill Vampires and Werewolves. Knowing since birth what her destiny would be has not made the onslaught of emotions she faces as she journey Upwards any easier. It doesn’t help that her father is drunk and her best friend just doesn’t get ‘it.’
Rachel isn’t prepared for the level of deception she faces, and before long she will find herself on a quest she is in no way prepared to handle. What happens next will alter not only Rachel’s life but the lives of everyone she knows. She will learn beyond a shadow of a doubt that sometimes the monsters we know are worse than the ones we don’t and that love can surprise us when it comes from somewhere we never anticipated it.
If she lives, she will be a Warrior. If she doesn’t, no one will ever remember her name.
DRIVEN When Rachel Clancy turned sixteen, she inadvertently changed the lives of everyone around her. Now, six months later she has to figure out how to live with what has happened.
Sent back into the wilderness—this time with a new love—she will find herself face-to-face with two people she never thought to see again: the boy she thought she loved and the man who wanted to destroy her since birth. If Rachel can learn what drives her forward, there may be a chance for everyone to start again. If she fails, all is lost.
SUBVERSIVE Rachel Clancy has been through a lot. With a mission to fight vampires, while losing two boyfriends—one to a vampire and one because of his daddy issues—she is in charge of a secret revolution that could change Genesis, her home, forever. Her confidence is shot, her hands are shaking, and she hasn’t felt a real emotion, except for anger, in a long time.
But Rachel should never be counted out. She sees things others can’t, even if her ideas are considered downright traitorous. The life destined for Rachel is to lead in the world, filled with vampires and werewolves instead of romance and flowers—always forced to fight to stay alive and vanquish any threat to her friends and family. But no matter how many times she’s won, the evil that has stalked her never forgets her name….
REDEMPTION Rachel Clancy made a decision to erase herself from the lives of her friends and family. She did this, she believes, to free herself up to make some hard decisions. Only to realize out she was manipulated by a master into doing just what he wanted. Now, she is alone with no one to turn to for help.
But fate isn't done with Rachel. When she is thrust back into the path of her former people—who have no idea who she is—she will find that life gives second chances.
I really don’t like to leave bad reviews/ratings on work. But this series was just not it for me. Perhaps a young person, as it is way more YA than I’m used to these days, would enjoy it and question things far less. It has moments of extreme cringe, a lot of predictability, a few continuity errors, and a lot of “why is this even in the story.”
It very much could have been a really good series if the characters weren’t so immature.
I get it, they’re 16-18ish age range. But it’s repeated SO many times that in the “before world” that’s young and immature but in the “after world” that’s “grown up.” If they’re “grown ups” and allowed to be trained to go fight and kill creatures, they should have been more mature than they were. Especially with all of the trauma they had. It had a lot of potential but it just fell out for me. I don’t typically DNF a book so I wanted to see it all the way through, hoping that the characters would mature as they got older but it just didn’t happen. :/
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Keep in mind the ages of these people. The active warriors are 16 and up. The mindset of them was a little immature at times and then old souls at others. The back and forth of “I love you…no I love him…I love you again” was getting annoying.
Chad was and is my favorite. Wish there was a longer ending chapter at the end. There was like three pages and that’s it. After 5 books, I need more than a quick ending. Especially as it didn’t really end for them, life just kept going.
4.0 Stars for a creative, rollicking, dystopic romp. 5 book omnibus; Young Adult MC’s. Quick read for the size.
Very creative, fun take on the werewolf/vampire trope with post apocalyptic mad scientists thrown in to boot.
Lots of emotional work-through, definitely some angsty-goodness. Fun characters that were mostly stand-alone from each other with their own personalities.
I liked Rachel, the MFC, but she could get a little too martyr-y and woe-is-me at times … expected to a degree given the circumstances … but I like a little less whine with my cheese. Overall it wasn’t that distracting to the pace of the books and she was funny, independent, thinking, strong and working it out which I liked a lot. I also liked that she stood up for herself on most occasions — which we all do. We are not all batting a thousand in that department, are we. 🤷🏻♀️😉
The story held throughout, though I felt like there could have been a bit more heft to the ending of the final book. It’s a little open ended which is fine … I know there are several character spin-offs, but for ending this grouping I would have liked another few pages of resolution.
Overall? Great, fun summer read.
Spice-O-Meter: 0-0.5 mild, baby pepper … mostly kissy-kissy, and not too much at that.
The path to justice was neither easy, nor straight. Rachel's journey from a scared 16-year old thrust into the harsh reality of vampires, werewolves and medical horrors to becoming one of the leaders of the rebellion has placed her in the unenviable position of knowing just what she needs to sacrifice in order for the future to happen. The story, as told from the perspective of Rachel, takes you through the emotions and the angst of a teenager who has lived far beyond the years of what was to what is now.
Really loved the plot, but I could have done without some of the romance back and forth stuff, though. I had a really tough time with the edit. I think if this book was to be edited again, it could be much closer to a 5 star. One of my biggest issues with the book is how the quotation marks were used in the dialogue. In all the books that I've read, if two characters are having a conversation, you would start a new line/paragraph when the second character is speaking to differentiate between who is speaking.
It's a phenomenal series with a strong heroine and an epic love story. Plenty of action for our young heroine who has a bit of a martyr complex. It's git werewolf vampires and warriors. It got scientists who like to play God. It's got it all with an amazing plot. I won't give any spoilers away you just have to read to be utterly amazed and fall in love with the characters.
Rebecca is one of my favorite authors and i have read a bunch of her books. Any which one is worth the read. This series is awesome. One of my favorites from her so far. Definitely pg to pg 13 so nothing too drastic in them. The action is outstanding and the twists and turns she takes you on is a roller coaster ride. Loved the world she creates but this post apocalypse era is outstanding. Thank you for the great ride
I had no idea what to think was going to happen but dang. Kept we shocked and oh no they didn't moments. Loved, hated, cried but most of all cheered. A must read for anyone no matter age.
I loved this series! Don’t think I have ever read anything quite like this. I thought Rachel was going to die so many times ( and not come back). Cried and yelled so much while reading this series.
Entertaining and excellent surprising plot twists!
Plot is interesting, characters are awesome. Changing dynamics in the storylines but still keeping the story going in the same direction made for an interesting read!
At times I wanted to strangle the main character- even though she was young and 16 she still made some horrible decisions - the last book was my favorite and definitely her redemption!
I found that it dragged in places, the main female character is kind of a martyr which gets old fast. Your left kind of hanging as to whether the world recovers and survives, so in that aspect there is no HEA.
A beautifully well written book and an epic love story. I would love to hear the story from others view points and maybe even a story of from the view of another habitat else where in the country.
Would definitely recommend this series. There’s action and a whole love triangle. The heroine is smart, strong, and just everything you’d want a teenage heroine to be.
I loved this series beginning to end! It was simply written so was an easy read and kept me hooked to the point I read all of it in probably 2-3 weeks. The romance throughout was written well without being inappropriate which I feel like is hard to find these days.
Well I stayed up too late again reading this. It was a very interesting read. I enjoyed it a lot. It was the whole series and nice and long like I like books to be. I’ll have to check out this authors other books.
This was definitely a different take on an apocalypse. Really enjoyed the twisted sense of adventure. Great female lead. Just the right amount of crazy
I didn't care for this series. Hated the main character. I did read it all and wanted to like it, but I skipped so many paragraphs that went on and on.
"Rachel Clancy lives in an underground habitat where she was born. Rachel is a Warrior that will be sent above ground on her sixteenth birthday to fight the monsters that destroyed everything and caused Armageddon. Rachel lives with her father who has been drunk everyday since her mother was killed by vampires. Rachel goes to a school where you learn to fight the monsters and to protect the humans that live in the habitat.
When Rachel receives her assignment on her sixteenth birthday she finds out that she will have to go above ground on her own, all because the leader of the habitat has it out for her because of a mistake her father made years ago. She is sent to an outpost to check on the other warriors that used to be there but no one has heard from in over a month. She she takes off on her journey she is kidnapped by werewolves who claim to be different then the monsters, and falls in love with the alphas son Jason.
What will Rachel have to do to survive a revenge that is more then what anyone is expecting. What will Rachel do to be with the one she loves. What will Rachel do when she finds out everything she knows and has grown up believing is a lie. What will Rachel do when she has to say goodbye to everything that she has know since she was born?
Rachel Clancy is the type of girl that I would like to be friends with. She is a very developed character, which you only see develop more as the novel progresses. The story line is original and very well created. The author makes you live out the scenes with Rachel. I really did find myself being caught up in this great story and not wanting to stop reading. There are twists and turns and you never know what is going to happen next. There are tear filled moments that leave you thinking you may cry with Rachel. " ~Courtesy of Catie Vargas
I was given a copy of this book series for my honest review.
Seriously I could not put this book series down. I ended up staying up all night to finish it something I haven’t done in years. From the first sentence I was drawn into this post-apocalyptic world where humans were fighting to stay alive against vampires and werewolves. I loved that it wasn’t your stereotypical vamp/wolf novel(s). In this series vampires were created by a virus which was made by scientists. They were more snake like in appearance but held quite a few of the basic vampire traits that I expect in a book like this. Werewolves were around pre apocalypse but hiding amongst the humans.
The characters were wonderfully developed so I became invested in what happened to them. This book centered on Rachael Clancy and a few other humans that for whatever reason (money, importance, powerful, or just plain lucky) were cryogenically frozen and then awoken at a later time. This series had an amazing amount of twists, turns, and plots going on. It was like being on a roller coaster. I won’t go into what happened as I hate spoilers but the maliciousness of the mad scientist in here is unparalleled to any other I have ever read.
If you want an amazing read that you can’t put down do yourself a favor and buy this series.
