Small towns can have big secrets, and this secret may have changed the world forever...
When the people of Waxahachie, Texas wake to find themselves cut off from the rest of the world and surrounded by an unfamiliar and dangerous wilderness, they must work together to survive and unravel the cause of the mysterious 'seam'.
Ellis County, Texas is turned on its head when everyone within an eighty-seven-mile radius wakes up in a world they don't recognize - a world populated by animals long since extinct.
It's up to a tired sheriff and a former Waxahachie resident to set aside their differences, solve the mystery and keep the people of Ellis County and Waxahachie safe.
"A page-turner of a book combining mystery, science fiction, the west, a touch of romance, and engaging characters. Here is a man who knows how to write interesting women characters! I typically like books by Baldacci, Vance, Clifford's etc... And this book fits right in with a fresh new take on post-apocalyptic fiction. Keep on writing Mr. Lenz!" - CJJ, Amazon Review
I wrote this. Its a masterpiece. If you have the opportunity to read this, and you choose not to, then you are actively choosing to live a worse life.
Seriously though, I think the book is fun! It's a pop sci-fi, survival/adventure with lots of mystery, some action, and cool prehistoric animals. Give it a shot!
I received this book from the author In Exchange for an honest review
If you’re a fan of Under The Dome or The Stand, you’ll like this book from the sheer unknown and high stakes this book presents. While it wonderfully mixes in various elements of science and thriller aspects, the story does suffer from characters that we don’t much care about. Another thing is that, many of the same concepts are repeated in the book and this becomes a tad tedious / repetitive. But overall if you like sci-fi with some elements of dystopia this is a good book and a good first start for the author. ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 out of 5
As far as debut novels go, this one takes the end of the world trope with its struggles to maintain society as it once was & adds a fantastic twist. Easy to read, engaging, & entertaining, I look forward to the rest of the books in the planned series.
I would have liked to have seen more backstory on some of the characters, more descriptions of the anomaly (though that may be coming in the later books) & perhaps a little more editing to tighten up some passages. Overall, however, a fun read.
So I received this audiobook for free on Reddit, and my experience hasn't been great in the past with free books etc from there so I was a bit nervous.
I will start off by saying even though it's a 2 from me, I think this book definitely deserves a wider audience and I'm actually excited to read (or listen..) to more from this author.
I'm glad I listened to this book. It's a solid 2, which for me means it's absolutely fine, and enjoyable but unfortunately has too many problems that weigh it down, however not enough to make it a "bad book". I enjoyed the pulp nature of it.
First, the good. The premise is very cool. The town wakes up and suddenly they're in the time of Mammoth, Sabertooths etc. Very cool premise. I also liked the idea of the politics of the town having to come together in order to survive. I like that it's a shorter book, that gets straight into the story, however this guns blazing approach brings me to the bad section.
The bad. The rush to get into the story makes characters and character development choppy, with the back story being mainly added through expositional conversation. This poor character development then makes a lot of the politics etc fall flat, and lowers tension, as characters motivations are seemingly made up, revealed, and explained both to the reader and the other characters on the spot. The story would have benefited greatly from taking its time in establishing the characters before the events of the novel, perhaps in a more organic way. (Please show more, don't just tell). This novel is also definitely a set up novel, so doesn't have a satisfying resolution by the end. I'm aware a second book is out, however; until the audiobook becomes available to me, this being a setup novel will unfortunately have to be a negative.
I think if a book like "Extinction" by Douglas Preston can find an audience in the shadow of Jurassic Park, then this book deserves to as well.
Read/listen to this if you are a fan of post apoc world/settlement building elements of Fallout, The Stand (Stephen King), Jericho (TV show) and Michael Crichton books.
A fairly realistic idea for the transport of a region to an alternate dimension slash reality. The book starts a little slow. There are a couple of characters that are a bit of a cliche. But all in all well worth the time to read.
Engaging, well-paced SF story. Good, likable characters. Although there are certainly elements of other classic science fiction stories, the combination of elements is a fun twist.
This has the small town charm plus world shattering mystery of Under the Dome or 1632. It has a fun mix of characters trying to figure out the world as they find it. This plays with some fun tropes. I’m glad I picked it up. I’ll be curious to know where this goes, if there’s a sequel.
Not the typical EOTW book. Well written with no ex-army prepper dude out to just protect his family. Loved the science of this without it being too science-y. A great read...hoping for more?
Not a fan. I liked the premise and, though I didn’t finish, the underlying reasons behind it seem interesting. I also like the characters. They seem like decent people and motivations for what some of them do slowly unfold.
One issue is that a physical description of a character took place not in his first appearance but the second. The happened on the second appearance solely for dramatic effect, which I found unnecessary.
The blackmail scheme of what character is just ridiculous. It’s not something he’d get away with. Pretty much anyone with a gun would put a quick end to him.
The shantytown. It rose up in the course of three days. The entirety of the book is only five days but somehow in three days a shantytown came into being. Gathering resources alone wouldn’t allow it to happen so quickly. That was the final straw for me when I knew I wasn’t going to finish.
The premise really is an interesting one but it needs stronger editing. A proofreader isn’t enough. I realize this is amateur publishing but I think a group of people to critically go through it would have been more helpful.
I loved the way the author wrote about familiar places here in Ellis County in very unusual ways. I was hooked on the plot from the very beginning and couldn't put the book down. Great read!
Residents and passers by of Waxahachie county, Texas wake with no power, some with half their houses missing and an untaimed forest surounding them. With elements from Jericho, Under the Dome, and Outland in play this has been a strong start in the Texas Accelerated series.
The sceneriao appealed to me a lot and was very happy with how well structured the novel was and the multiple points of view depicted. It has set my imagination going wild which I always enjoy and loved how the events have unfolded so far, keeping me engaged and gripped from beginning to end.
The first of a series, I think this works well as a standalone but I've already ordered paperbacks of both this and the second book.
I was given a free copy at my request and have voluntarily left this review which has not been influenced by the party that provided it.
This is Mr Lenz first novel, so very well done indeed. The plot is about displaced people. A whole small town of people who wake up one morning and realise that the rest of the world is gone. Mr Lenz is of course not the first Author to write this story, but he does it very well. There are, thank goodness, no dinosaurs. Instead, we get ice age mega fauna, and giant spruce instead of ginko and lianas. People are upset, there is fighting and bloodshed, a few murders, but not total war. At least not yet. The Characters are reasonable, like people we have all met and liked, or hated. There is a scientific explaination that is definitely good enough for science fiction. Well, a hypothesis. It might be something else, because the actual scientists don't agree. I like this very much, and have bought the sequel without reading the sample.
This is a well written, fast paced science fiction story. It’s? Alternate reality/dystopian. Small town vibe with the Texas town of Waxahachie, waking up isolated and cut off and plopped down into the middle of an Ice Age world. I love this, it was fun to read and the characters were likable and relatable. I will definitely read the second one, but if I read the Amazon publication dates correctly these two books were published two years apart, hoping that book 2 does not have a cliffhanger because two years is a long time between installments .
Extremely interesting concept and plot. Great world building. Well developed characters. The Seam:Book One of Texas Accelerated by Tyler Lenz was of particular interest to me as I am very much interested in Physics as well as living a few miles from Waxahachie, Ellis County, Texas. I’m also aware of the history of the area over the last several decades. This a well written story I’ve enjoyed reading.
I loved this book. I live in the town/county where this story takes place, and it's so fun to imagine my neck of the woods thrust into this prehistoric mystery! The book moves at a great pace, and the characters are painted expertly. There are moments of humor, heart, and amazement. The only reason I didn't give it all five stars is that I could have used a touch more action. That said, the book is never boring. Where it may lack in action, it makes up for it in mystery and intrigue.
I've been burnt out on "end of the world" dystopian novels for quite a while now. I didn't really want to check out this one. But I read the first few lines anyway, prepared not like it. Surprise, surprise, surprise. This guy can write. That seems to be something of a rarity these days. Any-hoo, five stars.
I enjoyed it, and think there's potential for some interesting sequels. I like the characters, but feel like I'm still getting to know them at the end of the book. I'm glad there's a second book waiting for me now, and hope it deals with day to day life, and not just good guy vs bad guys.
Interested in the ice age of the past? You can check it out in this tale of a strangely moved town of 20,000 to a new era that has to be seen to be believed. Even when seen, it seems impossible. But there you go. What will it take to adjust? Better figure it out really soon!
Living just up the road from Hachie, I could not resist this book. Readers can find real treasures in regional fiction. I'm looking forward to the next volume of "Texas Accelerated."
Found this new author and book through a random Facebook ad. The story sounded interesting so I bought the audiobook. Usually under those circumstances the book doesn't add up to much but this is an exception. Tyler has taken an old story that's been done to death and made it fresh. Solid story progress, interesting characters and development as their town suddenly appears in another world with no explanation. A thoroughly enjoyable read that makes the sequel an auto buy.
What an adventurous read! A captivating blend of sci-fi and dystopian elements with a great plot and engaging characters. Since moving to Waxahachie and learning about the Superconducting Super Collider project, the story truly came to life for me. I can’t wait to dive deeper into this series!
I absolutely loved The Seam by Tyler Lenz! This debut novel, the first in the Texas Accelerated series, is a thrilling blend of science fiction, mystery, and survival that kept me hooked from start to finish. If you’re a fan of imaginative worlds and high-stakes adventures, this book is for you.
I couldn't put this one down. I was reading another book and downloaded this one. Was just going to read a bit before I got back to my other one.I ended up reading all of it . It was that good.
Enjoyed the characters, pace and idea. A little slow at times but not terribly so. Worth the time. Would recommend. And will pick up the next in the series.
