Light of Chaos #3.5

Warrior's Glaive

Rate this book
When Fates Divine:
Thou shalt die and curse us all,
I shall die and trek so far,
He shall die and know great pain.
One to deceive, one to revive, I shall remain.

Forced to rise to destiny, Phoenix enters the Dead World. It’s not the hellscape he imagined, but the world’s beauty doesn’t detract from the dangers he faces—dangers dredged up from ancient prophecies that altered his past and even now threaten his future. All because a sun spirit dragged him into the war between gods.

But the spirit isn’t as he appears—he’s the fallen son of Ra, and Ramses needs Phoenix’s help retrieving the warrior godling’s glaive.

To collect the godblade, Phoenix will have to make a deal with the Devil—rather, Hades. In exchange for the surly god’s protection, Phoenix must journey across Hades, retrieve the four godstones, and liberate the Forsaken. But that’s easier said than done, considering an ancient monster stands in his way.

Is confronting Tartarus and bartering his soul worth the reward?

Warrior's Glaive is not meant to be read as a standalone novella, nor should it be skipped. Set in the Dead World, the events of this story directly follow Knight's Sword, Book 3, in the Light of Chaos series. Its timeline overlaps with and comes to its conclusion prior to the end of Book 4.

Choosing to skip Warrior's Glaive will detract from the reader's understanding of the larger context of the series as a whole.

LGBTQ author Alexandra Gardner (unofficial Queen of Chaos) writes action-packed Dark Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy. She’s the #1 Bestselling author of ELITE HUNTER (Light of Chaos: Born Elementals #1). In her free time, she can be found sitting on the couch of doom with entirely too much coffee, her laptop (aka her other half), and her Hell-spawned demon-cat yowling at her to turn on the damn heater. She also enjoys falling down research holes of ruin; sleeping until unreasonable hours of the day; and making up unrealistic, traumatizing scenarios for her characters. Check out her debut novel, KING'S CHAOS, a steamy enemies-to-lovers time-travel romance. Let the Chaos begin.

Phoenix wasn't one of my favorite characters in this Light of Chaos series so I didn't understand having a novella being made about him until I found out how important his journey to the Dead World was. A mix of Egyptian and Greek mythology combine here on Phoenix's journey to find his purpose and find the Warrior's Glaive. We get a lot of backstory about Phoenix and Ramses, the spirit that inhabits him. Took me a minute to wrap my head around some of the Ramses backstory though. We meet some fun new characters and familiar ones as well. This book made me appreciate Phoenix more even though I'm team Jeph all the way. A must read to continue the series so I can't wait for Book 4!

I wanted to learn more about Phoenix, and boy, did I!

This short story follows Phoenix's journey through Hades (the place, not the god). He's supposed to fight an Ancient Greek titan to recover stones that are important to freeing the Forsaken. It was interesting to see his character growth as the story progressed. It felt like he really came into himself. I'm interested to see what comes next!
