He’s the protector she never wanted—and the love she can’t let go.
Princess Lucia du Charbonneaux loves her life. Afforded a level of autonomy rarely enjoyed by royalty, she lives on her own and chooses staff members who give her the space she needs. But her new bodyguard refuses to play by the rules. His insistence on shadowing her 24/7 is cramping her style—and the sparks flying between them are on the verge of melting her carefully constructed Ice Princess façade. He needs to go before those sparks get too hot.
Eric Delmonico would be happy to leave. The infuriating, challenging, whip-smart princess is a royal pain. Not to mention her sinfully sexy body keeps him up at night in more ways than one. But her brother gave Eric the job, and he is determined to stay until the threat against her is neutralized.
An attempt is made on her life, and Eric spirits her away to a safe house in the country where passion ignites, leaving them both shaken. Together they must work to find the assassin before Lucia’s safety—and the connection between them—are lost forever.
Lucia is a very independent princess. She doesn't live in the palace anymore because she wanted to have her own private space. She is still very active in royal society, as she should be, but her time outside her duties is truly her own. That is, until her brother Alex leaves for his honeymoon and a man in shadows of the wedding reception informs her he is her new bodyguard. She is uncertain why Alex has hired this man, as employment issues are Lucia's responsibility. Not easily cowed, Lucia tries her best to ditch this brooding man who insists on taking away all of her freedoms. Why now does she have a 24/7 bodyguard?
Eric has been hired by the Alex, the crown prince, to keep a watchful eye on his sister, Lucia. As head of his own security firm, Eric takes every job very seriously and he knows how important it is to keep the princess safe. She, apparently, has not been told about him or the impending threats to her, though. The power struggles between the pair are hot and the looks tossed about to each threaten to melt Lucia's heart and incinerate Eric's professionalism and will power.
Lucia and Eric are wonderful, strong characters. Lucia is not the Ice Princess she portrays to the world. She's very caring, considerate, and hard-working. Eric is a former military man providing job opportunities to others of the same. He is broody (but not too broody) and takes his role as Lucia's protector very seriously. They engage in witty banter that kept me smiling. I was engaged in the story from the get-go, enjoying almost every part of the plot. The only issue I had was the abruptness of the ending. The whole reason for Eric's protection was written off-the-page, leaving me a little let down that the discovery, confrontation, and take down of the threat wasn't included.
Lessons in Trust is the embodiment of romantic suspense novella. The book is a quick read and enjoyable. This is the first book I've read by Kate Davies and I love her writing style, wit, and combination of two unlikely characters finding everything they need in each other.
Princess Lucia has everything she wants except someone to share it with. She's glad her brother found his forever love but she's not happy that he hired a new bodyguard, Eric, for her without talking to her first. She treasures the little bit of privacy she's been able go carve out for herself & doesn't appreciate Eric's efforts to restrict her. If only she could stop thinking about him.
Eric "Demon" Delmonico agreed to become the new bodyguard for Princess Lucia. He could tell she would not appreciate him & the demands he was going to place on her. However, until they found out who was sending the threats to her, he was going to be by her side. If only he wasn't so attracted to her.
This is Book 2 of the Royals and Rebels series but can be easily read on its own as a standalone. Both characters are well defined, three dimensional people. Lucia came across as cold & aloof but as the reader gets to know her, the layers peel back so you see her kind & compassionate center. She just needs some time out of the public eye to be herself, not Princess Lucia. This author has a descriptive writing style that makes you feel part of the scene. I really enjoyed this book.
The woman has no problem going after what she wants, “I’m here because I want you.” Emboldened by the press of his body against hers, she ran her hands down his back to cup his buttocks. They were as tight as she’d imagined. “I want this.” I liked this book, I liked Eric.
After reading Lessons in Love and enjoying it very much, I decided to jump to book two in the Royals and Rebels series by Kate Davies. And, to be honest, I was a bit disappointed.
Lessons in Trust starts in a very promising way. Lucia is a fairly likable character and Eric is amazing as the alpha-ex-military type. Their first interactions are very funny, as are most of the dialogs. And then, at some point, the quality of the plot declines. I never really got the feeling that Lucia was in real danger. Even when Eric drives her away in a rush, nothing really bad seems to have happened - or at least if it did, it was not properly explained. The ending is rushed and I sort of failed to grasp the point where Lucia and Eric move from being in lust to being in love.
Lessons in Trust is not overall bad, and if you're looking for a quick read and love happy endings, you may still want to give it a try, but I found it a bit weaker than book one.
Another great Kate Davies book! The second installment in the series follows Lucia and Eric. Kate has a way with words and dialog that kept me from putting down the book until it was done. A quick read that doesn't get bogged down in a withering female lead, but with a heroine who is determined to live her life on her terms. The characters are strong and play off each other well. I recommend giving it a read and I look forward to the next book from Kate.
What a great follow up to Lessons in Love. In this book Lucia the twin sister of Prince Alex will find her love. When a new bodyguard (Eric) it hired by Prince Alex, Lucia was not pleased. Lucia is a private person and does not want anyone butting in or tell her what to do. But in the end love will prevail again. Winner!! Winner!!!
