The 2023 National Electrical Code (NEC) book, published by NFPA’s Committee on the National Electrical Code, was published in late 2022. The NEC is an informational book of code used to protect persons and property. Without a code book to follow, modern-day electricians would be lost trying to keep up with the engineering and growth of the electrical trade. The NEC is used internationally on modern jobsites to ensure safety and up-to-date regulations on these jobsites. The NEC consists of over 100 different electrical code articles that dive deep into every aspect of the work, from running wires to calculating voltage drop on service cables. Some articles are required to be much longer than others because they need to be more precise and in-depth. One example is Article 250, the Grounding and Bonding article.
The NEC is a long, hard, and boring read if I’m being brutally honest. It definitely wasn't written to read for enjoyment, but it definitely has some great information in it that is used every day for people involved in the electrical trade. Even workers who have been dealing with the code for 20 years need to dig deep to find the information they are looking for. Once you know the basics of navigating the book, it definitely becomes a lot easier to find the information you are seeking. Using the index and jumping around through the different articles can be frustrating, especially if you are seeking information that is more niche or exact. I would NOT recommend this book to anyone who is not in the electrical trade, solely because it is boring and frustrating. But I'm sure everyone in the electrical trade has encountered the book many times and probably even has their own copy of it.
