NIGHT TERROR A Space Warfare Group Novella (Book 0.5)
“An exciting new series of books that read like Star Trek meets Black Hawk Down.”
The Space Warfare Group books are a new kind of space thriller with hardcore military action, dark political conspiracies, and compelling world building.
Under the cover of darkness, a human senator meets with an alien resistance leader eager for military support against their tyrannical overlord. But with politics, no secret is ever safe. When the meetings are attacked, the small security force has little time before being overrun.
Major Malcolm “Mac” Lambert, and a small team of his Space Warfare Group operators, are called into action and hastily organize a plan to reinforce the small diplomatic security force.
But when the rescue mission descends into the terrifying depths of a new mysterious threat, fresh horrors will fuel Mac’s nightmares for years to come.
This mission takes place before Into the Darkness(Space Warfare Group Book 1).
Charles Hack is the author of the Space Warfare Group Sci-Fi/Space Opera books and the Hank Lin Mysteries. After writing for nearly twenty years, his first published novel is Into the Darkness. He studied electrical engineering in college and is still a licensed professional engineer with over twenty years of experience before retiring and entering full time Christian ministry. He currently serves as a pastor in his hometown and has a master’s degree in systematic theology.
Writing is one of his passions along with reading, woodworking, and coffee. Charles is married with two children and three noisy dogs. They live on a small ranch, known as the Ranchini, in the Great Basin of Northern Nevada.
Wow, I loved this book. A great military scifi with a great story and engaging characters. I loved Mac and Raider. Though our time with these characters is short, Hack has a marvellous way of depicting their personalities and values.
Night Terror is a great fast-paced read with all the right thrills and chills for lovers of Alien, Halo, and any special ops media. Can't wait to read the next book.
I expected this book was going to go one way after a while and Hack took it in a different direction. Very cool, enjoyed this one. Looking forward to book II!
Short, sweet, full of action….and awesome! Love the pacing, story and characters and can’t wait to continue on to Book 1: Into The Darkness and see what trouble the space warfare group finds itself in next.
This was a fun read. Definitely got Halo vibes from it and got me super interested in reading this series. Raider was an awesome character and want to see more of her. Dig the cyborg-type description of her and I'm interested in seeing what she can do in a full story. Fast-paced action, and scary aliens mixed with a Sci-fi military setting equals a good time! Also, I hope SCOUT makes a return!
After reading Night Terror I am totally committed to reading this series. It was very exciting and full of action and I definitely want to read more of what's in store for Mac. A big thumbs up !
This was a good read, I am a fan of military thrillers and add sci-fi special ops sign me up. This was fast paced, definitely can see the Clancy and Child inspiration. Also when Predator style camo aliens are involved things got interesting. The team dynamics play out quick and it’s entertaining definitely looking forward to the next books.
Having read Into the Darkness previously, it was fantastic hopping back into this Space Opera world. Mac and the Space Warfare group are some badass fighters, and I had a blast reading them in action again. This had everything I look for in a military Sci-Fi. And having listened on audio, Peter Leppard is a phenomenal up-and-coming narrator. If you're into this genre, definitely check this baby out.
I won this book and a couple others from the author in his Space Warfare Group series. This tiny prequel was action packed and I loved it. The characters are all unique but easily memorable. I’m very excited to start the official book one of the series.
So far this is exactly what I’ve been looking for in searching for a new sci-fi IP.
Big shoutout to Charles Hack for sending over Night Terror and book one, Into the Darkness. I have been needing more sci-fi with teeth, and this novella wastes no time throwing you straight into the fire. Night Terror feels like a tight military sci-fi extraction mission wrapped in space opera tension. A secret meeting. Alien resistance. Politics getting people killed. Then everything goes sideways fast. What worked for me most was how lean it is. No wasted space, no over-explaining, just boots on the ground, weapons hot, and a small team trying to survive a situation that keeps closing in around them. You can feel the larger Space Warfare Group universe building in the background, but this still works as a sharp, action-heavy entry point. If you like your sci-fi with firefights, betrayal, and that “we are not making it out clean” feeling, this is one to grab.
Classic military sci-fi with all the good stuff! A covert mission to rescue the leader of a resistance, an alien world with terrors lurking in the dark, and an enemy attack force pressing in. It's a perfect cocktail of ingredients and makes for a very entertaining novella. I really enjoyed Mac's team and the banter between them (the narrator does an AMAZING job with the character voices), Sanchez in particular is just brilliant, I was cackling away to myself listening to his constant complaining and quick wit. Charles absolutely nails the military vibe, the camaraderie, the banter, and of course all the cool equipment. If you want a good action-packed mil-sci-fi romp, I heartily recommend!
Great read! Great worldbuidling and action. Fast, to the point, and there are some epic moments when I really went oooh wow, or oooh noooo! Writing and pace is great. I did miss a bit more character depth and development but if you want a mostly action packed book with aliens and hidden dangers, and badass characters this book is for you!
I will be reading the next in the series to get to know Major Mac and the team better!
A pure and simple space warfare sci-fi book. Dripping in advanced technology and almost super-human heroes (and aliens). An awesome cast of characters compliment a firey and instensely paced story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The narrator is incredible, a little fast maybe, but really captures the characters and battle scenes with brilliant craftsmanship.
Thrilling!! Received it last night and I couldn’t put it down! Great story and easy to read. I really loved the way it came carefully packed with swag!! Loved the personal touches. I recommend Charles Hack to everyone!! Well done, sir. Well done!!
An ok intro to the team. You get to see the team interactions and their abilities, plus how they work as a team Book 1 of the series has potential so hoping for more of the same and better
