Secrets and lies threaten to pull them under, but a forced marriage may be their salvation.

Gideon Kendrick grew up as the despised bastard son of the Duke of Glenmoor. Exiled to the mines by his father, he has not only survived but thrived and prospered. He lives apart, wanting nothing to do with the duke, the estate—or anything in his past, except his younger brother Phillip, the new duke.

When Phillip disappears, leaving behind a letter asking his brother to care for his affairs, Gideon can’t refuse. Armed with authority making him the duke in all but name, he returns to the scene of his worst memories, facing vicious rumors and his family’s past. He also finds a grasping would-be heir, a steward with secrets, and a woman who stirs in him a desire he thought buried with his beloved wife.

Mia Selwyn lives in the shadows, an unwanted poor relation in the house of her viscount uncle. When her cousin's hoydenish attempt to meet the supposed heir sees her drenched, ill, and in need of nursing, Mia is sent to care for her. Though warned to stay clear of the despised Kendrick, she is drawn into the dark undercurrents among the mismatched collection of residents and enthralled by the enigmatic Mr. Kendrick.

She quickly realizes he is not the monster he is rumored to be, twisted in body and mind. Instead, he is a resilient resourceful man with a deep love of family. As family, household servants, and villagers take sides on whether Gideon is the source of all the estate's problems or its salvation, Mia and Gideon forge a partnership.

Together they struggle to unravel secrets and the tangle Phillip left behind, and in the process, find a future for themselves.

Caroline Warfield is the pseudonym of a writer who wishes she had walked through fascinating times in the shoes of one of her characters—but which one?

Caro has at various times been an army brat, a librarian, a poet, a raiser of children, a nun, a bird watcher, an Internet and Web services manager, a conference speaker, an indexer, a tech writer, a genealogist, and, of course, a romantic. She has sailed through the English channel while it was still mined from WWII, stood on the walls of Troy, searched Scotland for the location of an entirely fictional castle (and found it), climbed the steps to the Parthenon, floated down the Thames from the tower to Greenwich, shopped in the Ginza, lost herself in the Louvre, gone on a night tour of the Singapore zoo, walked in the Black Forest, and explored the underground cistern of Istanbul.

By far the biggest adventure has been forty-five years of marriage to a prince among men.

She sits in front of a keyboard at a desk surrounded by windows, looks out at the trees and imagines. Her greatest joy is when one of those imaginings comes to life on the page and in the imagination of her readers.

Gideon Kendrick grew up as the despised illegitimate son of the Duke of Glenmoor. Exiled to the mines by his father, he has not only survived but thrived and prospered but is now a mine owner. The first book in a new series but we met Gideon in a previous series, his stepmother Madelyn’s story & I was thrilled he’s had his HEA, I only hope Philip has his. A well written story with wonderful characters & a story that pulled at my heart strings. I loved Gideon a strong self made man even though he had a physical deformity but I loathed how he was treated & was totally routing for him to be recognised for the honest, hardworking gentleman he was. I also loved the downtrodden Mia & loved that she found her prince. I loved that she saw the real Gideon from the start. There were also a few mysteries for Gideon to unravel before he could finally go home. I was engrossed in the book & read until the not so wee hours to finish it as I couldn’t sleep until Gideon was redeemed in every ones eyes
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

The cycle of injustices comes full circle in this harrowing tale. Commissioned by his brother to see to the running of the Glenmoor estate in his absence, Gideon Kendrick has to once again face the malicious gossip spread by his malevolent father, the late Duke of Glenmore. Added to the mix, are household servants and villagers who continue to perpetuate the lies, and Gideon is hard-pressed having to deal with outright aspersions on his character. Therefore when spoilt Miss Selina Selwyn contrives to meet the heir apparent, things take a turn for the worse as her actions result in her taking desperately ill, thereby forcing her cousin, Mia Selwyn to try and bring some semblance of order into the situation. Gideon has many years of experience at reading people and their reactions toward him, and he is therefore taken aback by Mia's gracious acceptance of him and her sense of humor. With her uncle bearing down on them, Mia is given no choice other than to marry Gideon, but it is no hardship for either of them. However, with forces working against them the plot becomes suspenseful as Gideon and Mia try to work their way through the maze of lies and deceit until Gideon's life comes under threat. The novel does come to a good conclusion, although I was left feeling a little sad about the way Gideon and Mia were treated, despite being victorious. The book is well written and although part of a series, is a standalone. I received a copy of this romance as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Duke in All But Name by Caroline Warfield
The Entitled Gentlemen #1

A mix of Beauty and the Beast with a bit of Cinderella feel to this historical romance had me hoping that Mia and Gideon would find happiness together. I had a feeling there was more backstory in a previous series that may have had Gideon as a younger man but was fine reading this book as a standalone entry into a new historical romance series just starting up.

What I liked
* Mia: poor relative taken in by her uncle’s family, raised by religious mother and perhaps irresponsible father, verbally abused by her male cousin, taken advantage of and treated as a maid by her female cousin, loved by animals, forgiving, family oriented, sweet, naïve, a young twenty but strong
* Gideon: widow, father of three young children, brother to the duke of Glenmoor, called in to oversee the duke’s estate while the duke is away, has scoliosis, stronger and wiser than many believe him to be, a good man and loving father
* The admiration, respect, and interest Mia and Gideon showed for one another
* Hector – wonderful dog of mammoth size, protective, well behaved, a sweetheart
* Pritchard – stablemaster when Gideon was younger, good man, stalwart and true
* That the writing had the feel of books read decades ago
* The way the problem people and issues raised were eventually exposed and dealt with
* Wondering what will happen next in the lives of Gideon, Mia and their family as well as wondering what will happen to Phillip on his journey

What I didn’t like
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Really disliking Gideon’s father, the heir presumptive and his mother, and the gossiping busybodies and brutes in the story – glad they probably got heir just desserts

Did I enjoy this story? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Perhaps

I have to start by saying this story is full of intrigue, I love the characters, the forced proximity romance is perfectly portrayed - this is just a superb story that hooked me from the first page!

Duke in All But Name by Caroline Warfield is the beginning of the new series THE ENTITLED GENTLEMEN, as many have mentioned we met the hero of this story in The Defiant Daughter which is the story of Gideon’s stepmother. I truly loved Gideon! He is everything a gentleman should be and he is a resilient and resourceful man with a deep love of family, and although he is a gentleman - he knows how to work in the mines alongside his men.

Mia Selwyn lives in the shadows, an unwanted poor relation in the house of her viscount uncle. I admit it took me a little while to warm up to her personality…but I did, she is perfect for Gideon!

I don’t want to say much more other than I really enjoyed this story!

Hundreds of things are rattling around in my mind to describe this book! Marvelous, fantastic, superb ... just aren't strong enough to describe the talented Caroline Warfield's 1st book in her Entitled Gentlemen series. Gideon, our brooding hero and Mia, our strong-willed heroine are thrown together amid a house of bad memories, a hateful staff, a scheming relative (or two). Oh, you just have to read the book to find out how these two sift through truth and fiction to come together. Again, hundreds of things I can write but I don't want to give anything away. LOL

Thank you Ms. Warfield for a attention-grabbing, heart throbbing story and I can't wait to read the next in the series!

This is book one in The Entitled Gentlemen series. I read book two first then decided to read book one. Out of the two of these, I liked book two better. For me, this story was mostly dull. The hero, Gideon, is a widower and the bastard of a duke. I could say more, but no spoilers!

Gideon is not one of those alpha males who are often just...too much. I kind of liked that. Was Gideon a beta male? One definition of an alpha male is "a man who is highly intelligent, confident, and successful." And Gedeon was those things. And I wouldn't necessarily call him weak; however, he definitely often backed down and did not assert himself. Even when he rightly could have done so. He made some veiled and ineffective threats a few times. Gideon had a rough childhood while growing up in the Duke's household and some other experiences while young. I like that he was a survivor. He rose beyond his circumstances and thrived. With all that, I should have liked no loved his character. The problem? He character was lacking that leading man quality. That's the only way I know to describe it.

The h, Mia, was just, well okay. Warfield made her almost too good at times. She forgave everyone who treated her badly. A little bit of a goody two-shoes. Although she had her moments of ire and spitfire. I had to recall that Mia was young; she was a WHOLE 17 years younger than Gideon. Also, she was religious, so I'm sure that played a part too.

For A LOT of the novel nothing really happens. At least that did use the 'filler' of repetitive dialogue and musings that some authors use to beef up and prolong their storylines. I don't need constant action but come on, it was a bit of a yawn-fest. It was mostly the MCs looking over ledgers and paperwork. And wondering and looking for clues. After dragging all this out over hundreds of pages, the end was rushed up. (SMH) I don't usually like when kids are used to advance a story. However, in this case, I wish the children were introduced earlier. They might have enlivened the story some.

Reason for rating: The story wasn't too engaging, and characters were somewhat dull.

CONTENT:
Steam Level: Some reviewers called this a clean novel. It is not. It describes more than kissing. And there is expressed lust and body reactions. And it is not strictly closed door. However, the intimate scenes are NOT explicitly described. If I had to rate it, subjective as that is, I would give it a 2.5 out of 5.
Violence: There was an attempted kidnapping and several folks assaulted. Again, if rated, maybe 3 out of 5.
Language: I don't recall any crude/bad language.

Will they be able to unmask the forces in league against him…

I remember having been intrigued by Gideon’s history when he was introduced in The Ashmead Heirs series. What a tragedy he survived to become the successful man he is now.
I do not know why but this book made me think of two Charles Perrault’s tales : Riquet with the Tuft and the Fairies.
Gideon as Riquet, and Mia from The Fairies story, the second daughter, less appreciated than her eldest sister.
Gideon has been put in a difficult position by his half brother, assigned to take care of the dukedom holdings when everyone has believed all the lies and gossips carried out for years.
Impeded but not crippled by his twisted spine, he has found ways to move and act close to normalcy. But going back to his sire’s main estate is like stepping back into the worse years of his life.
Everyone is suspicious, arrogant and full of poison. They mock him when they are no better and let their venomous tongue spread falsehoods like a rampant fire with no thought of the harm they are doing, even enjoying the results. I really disliked the inhabitants of this area, they were few to wish to rescue from their wrong doings.
When he is only here to see no harm is done to the estate so by extension its tenants.
Mia is the poor orphan relative, as long as she had her use, she was appreciated but now she has come to understand she has reached the end of her uncle’s generosity, a husband would be much welcomed by her kin as he would remove her from their care.
Her uncle and her cousin are not evil people, more on the selfish and self centered side, interested in what she could offer but not beyond that.

So while she is wary of Gideon at first, she understands quickly the hearsay she has been told are all fabrication as he proves her again and again he is clever, kind, the very opposite of the monster he is portrayed by the rumormongers.
Why Gideon finds an unexpected ally in Mia, she is not scared nor repulsed by him, even more she sees his worth and believes him.

A lovely tale of two people who are brought together by having to fight a mob, folktales and greediness in unison, each seing the other’s value when everyone overlooked or ignored them.
5 stars

Now I am quite curious about Phillip’s own upcoming adventure.

Hum, were to start with this story. It is a very different type of Regency as there are no balls, town parties and social calls. This story takes place in the country with some very different characters. Gideon Kendrick has had a rough life, the bastard son of a duke born with scoliosis, twisted spine. People in the eighteenth century had many superstitions and mistrust and were easy lead. Much like today, due to the rumors spoken about him and his disappearance most thought him dead. His own father had him beaten, and sent to his mines to work or die. Instead, he learned and become a man of means and lived quite well with his children in Wales. He has no need or interested in his father or the estate. Until his half-brother who he does love needs his help. Now he must go back to the last place on earth he ever wanted to see again. Phillip, The Duke of Glenmoor is missing, and many think his brother killed him. With Phillips letter giving Gideon the power to run his estate, he now must try and find out why Phillip left and why a cousin, Felton Tavermash and his mother have taken over the estate all while people mock and distrust him ugh. Mia Selway is the poor relation and forced to stay with her uncle more of a servant the family. Her cousin, Selina is a spoiled brat, only thinking of herself and treats Mia awfully. Mia is also in charge of the whole household and keeping it running. Till Selina decides to meet the to be next duke and becomes deadly ill from walking in the rain in a ball grown! While Mia cares for her Gideon and her become close, finding they have much in common. Even with him being fifteen years older. With the mystery of the missing duke, an almost kidnapping and the cousin and his mother causing as much trouble as they can. There are a lot going on and many twists and turns. As other reviews have mentioned there are wonderful animals, a horse and lovable mutt that are harmed doing what animals do trying to help the people they love. This book is more on finding answers than a detailed love story, it is not a steamy book but they find what they are missing in each other. Slow in spots but totally worth the read. Am now reading the second book to see what happened to his brother. So far, it's also pretty good.

Lovely, if a little long, story of an imperfect hero and the woman he marries for propriety's sake and quickly comes to love.

Gideon is, so he has always been told, the illegitimate son of a duke. Stricken with scoliosis, his father banishes him when he is young while spreading rumors of Gideon's behavior towards his stepmother. All think he is dead, while he is in fact making a fortune and a life of his own. Dragged back to the ducal estate by his recently rediscovered brother's decision to go traveling and leave Gideon in charge (though Phillip, the brother, does not bother to tell anyone but Gideon and Phillip's solicitor of these arrangements), Gideon is treated badly by servants and neighbors alike, Except for Mia, the poor relation of a local viscount, who is able to see beyond the rumors.

Mia ends up spending several days, including unsupervised alone time, with Gideon during a flu epidemic during which she is at his house caring for her cousin. This compromises her and leads to their marriage. A note that the flu epidemic just sort of ends without note. One page people are dying, the next page it is never mentioned again. A bit odd. The rest of the book details how their relationship grows in light of external drama.

Mia is a great FMC. Smart and strong, but still acting within the bounds of the world in which she lives. She cares for her family - more than they deserve - and is excellent at reading people and giving them what they need. Gideon has not been ruined by the adversity in his life and he is a loving father and also devoted to his family. Else he would not have come when his brother called.

The secondary characters are well written and add but do not distract from the story. A solid 4 stars. I will be watching for the next installment in this new series.

Thank you to Dragonblade and NetGalley for an ARC of this book. The opinions herein are my own.

*I received a free ARC from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review*

I loved, loved, loved this book! It has so many layers to it and I loved that the romance part came about so naturally. The drama in the story came from outside events rather than the relationship. This is really a story about two people who truly understand one another and fell in love with who the other person was. I also really liked that this love story wasn't about Mia saving him and bringing light back into his life. My only complaint with Mia is that she insists on being a good person and forgiving those who have wronged her and treated her poorly. I was so waiting for the moment when she would really lay into her uncle and cousins for how they treated her. One of my favorite parts in this book was the way Mia won over the servants (most of them anyway). You knew Gideon's children would love her once they got used to the idea that he had gotten remarried. I think part of what made me like him so much was the fact that he saw Mia's value pretty early on when so many others overlooked and attempted to diminish her. The mysteries throughout the story added just the right amount of drama and intrigue. Although, would it have killed Phillip to talk with someone at the house to let them know he would be traveling and was putting his brother in charge of things while he was gone? Seems like that would have saved Gideon a lot of hassle. I'm not sure if the series will include connected characters, but I'm really hoping we get some future look-ins on MIa and Gideon - and maybe have Phillip get his own story. Either way, if book 2 is even half as good as this one it will definitely be worth checking out!

This may be hard to understand initially without reading the Ashmead Heirs Series (by the same author). So, you should read the Author's Note at the end first. It explains that these stories are related to the inheritance laws in England at that time.

Phillip Tavernash (the heir-apparent of the Glenmoor estate), and half-brother to Gideon Kendrick, has dumped the whole estate of the Duke of Glenmoor into Gideon's lap and disappeared. Gideon, wealthy in his own right, doesn't need this trouble but agrees to Phillip's wishes and arrives in Woodglen. He plans to stay a month and make sure all is well. Then, he plans to leave it in the steward's care and return to his mines in Wales. But life isn't like that.

Gideon hasn't been in the area for more than fourteen years, but plenty of people remember him and the terrible things his father (the Duke) said about him. As a result, the population is hostile, wary, and watching for him to make a mistake.

Mia Selwyn is the orphan-poor-relation of her uncle's estate Selwyn Court. Ludlow Selwyn considers his niece an expensive expenditure, even though she does many housekeeper chores for Viscount Clavering (her uncle). Mia also attends her cousin, the vapid Selina Selwyn. The Viscount hopes to marry Mia to a local farmer quickly.

This is a richly textured story that will keep the reader turning pages. There are mysteries, mob violence, and plot twists that will keep the reader glued to the book. This is the start of a new series. Great story.

This is Book 1 of Ms. Winfield's new series, The Entitled Gentlemen and I think it is off to a brilliant start! Gideon is the bastard son of the Duke of Glenmoor. He was sent to the mines as a young boy and never looked back. He wants nothing to do with the past, but when his younger brother Philip disappears leaving behind a letter for him in which he asks Gideon to look after things in his absence, he has no choice but to go back to the home that had cast him away. Things are not easy when he returns, as he has to deal with all the lies and gossip that his father had maliciously spread.
Mia is a poor relation living with her viscount uncle. When her cousin's ridiculous attempts at trying to meet the heir leave her ill, Mia is sent to care for her in the Duke of Glenmoor's home. Gideon has many years of experience with people's negative reaction to him, but when he is faced with Mia's kindness and acceptance of him, he becomes just as intrigued with her as she is of him. Philip has left behind many secrets, and Mia and Gideon work together to untangle them and also face the threat hanging over Gideon.
The story is well-written and kept me turning the pages, anxious to see what happens next. Gideon and Mia were wonderful characters and I enjoyed seeing them together. A lovely start to what looks to be a captivating series!

This was the first book I read by this author but I can tell you, she will become one of my top romance authors to read. Gideon and Mia are great characters and they worked so great together!

Gideon grew up as the illegitimate son of the duke of Glenmoor. Despised by his father and the people he grew around with, he was exiled to the mines where he survived and prospered as a mine owner. When his brothers Phillip disappears, he steps up as the new duke. He comes back to the place of his worst memories, facing vicious attacks and slander. Mía Selwyn is an unwanted ward of her viscount uncle, living in the shadows and despised by her uncle and cousin. When her cousin Selina, makes a mess of things trying to meet the new duke, is Mia who ends up with no choice but to marry Gideon.

I loved how Gideon’s character was portrayed. A strong, self-made man, deciding to live his life with honesty and hard-work. I loved how Mia saw the real Gideon from the very beginning and how their relationship grew and found a common ground in their pasts. This book was a good mix of romance and the mystery surrounding Gideon’s story. I read through this book in two days. Two sleepless night with no regrets!

Spice Level: Low
Readability: High

Gideon, an exiled son of a duke, has been dealt a bad hand through no fault of his own. He deals with a horrible father, a society that judges others on outward appearances and thrives by gossip and a bad situation early in life. He is a true gentleman that had me falling in love with him. Mia is a "charity case" living with her uncle and spoiled cousin and has made herself comfortable with her lot in life. Both have sold themselves short of their potential and have lost hope of finding love. Mia is so open and giving; I wanted to be her friend from the state. This story is how they find each other.

When Gideon is sent to the family estate he hesitantly agrees though he has no reason to believe it will be anything but a terrible experience. But then, through a crazy series of events, he meets Mia. They slowly find their way to each other in a very sweet journey to love. Can they solve the mystery of a missing girl in town while overcoming bias of the townsfolk and estate staff?

A great read with a very clean and minimal amount of spice. It is an attention grabbing page turner perfect when paired with a hot cup of a tea and a rainy day.

Gideon Kendrick has lived in the shadow of being the despised bastard son of the Duke of Glenmoor. Despite his exile to the mines by his father, he has become successful. Yet when his younger brother, the new duke, disappears, Gideon finds himself thrust into managing the estate. Armed with authority making him the duke in all but name, he returns to the scene of his worst memories, facing vicious rumours and his family’s past. He has to confront a would be heir plus a steward who does his best to undermine him. Yet when he meets Mia Selwyn, the niece of his neighbour, he is soon captivated. Despite finding themselves having to marry, their marriage becomes both their salvation. Together, they resolve to uncover the truth behind the estate’s problems and the mystery of Gideon’s family background.
Gideon and Mia’s story is a sweet romance, with no hidden agenda. Whilst there is plenty of mystery and danger surrounding them, their love for each other is apparent without any misconception behind their romance. An enjoyable read.

What a fantastic story! I was deeply invested from the very beginning and found it quite hard to step away. The endless number of questions and mysteries throughout this story keeps you guessing. Every time you think you know, something new happens to cast doubt on your suspicions. It is quick to see just how perfect Mia & Gideon were for each other. The evolution of their relationship was done masterfully. Despite the reputation issues, it clear to see that they already care for one another. The blend of personalities in these characters makes for great banter & conflict. Characters you can’t help but love and ones you instantly hate, but more than that was redemption of many of the staff. As rumours are battled by kindness and caring, it was beautiful to see that many were able to move past misconceptions. I especially was drawn in by the physical aspect of Gideons life. I myself have severe scoliosis, and I can say that the representation in this story was skillfully told. It definitely helped me relate to Gideon’s struggles. I greatly enjoyed this story and am eager to see where the series takes us.

An excellent read. The characters are interesting, the mystery intriguing and the romance well described.
Gideon has a disability and has been poorly treated by his father, punished and sent down a mine to die. His brother, the duke, learning more about Gideon's birth has absconded and asked Gideon to look after the estate in the interim. This is painful as Gideon is returning to the one place he hates with just one friend to help him.
Gideon almost runs Mia over so their initial meeting isn't particularily positive plus she hears all the bad gossip about him. Mia is also hard done by and treated as the poor relative. Perhaps because of this she is more likely to make her mind up about a person instead of listening to the sleaze put out by others. The passion takes place behind closed doors but this doesn't distract from the romance and HEA.

It's the start of a series so I'm very keen to see where it goes next. Heartily recommend.

You will enjoy this book much better if you read "The defiant daughter" first. It provides all the background you need to really appreciate Gideon Kendrick and all he has had to endure during his life. I thought the book took a little bit of time to get going and Caroline Warfield, contrary to what she did in her Ashmead Heirs series does not give us a lot of background info. However, the book comes to life with the Selina's sickness and then the slow burning romance between Gideon and Mia. It was really enjoyable and one can but admire Gideon for his fortitude before the number of untruths he has to endure about his past. The tying up of loose ends at the end of the book occasionally felt a bit too convenient, especially as regards the housekeeper.
Although a folly in the park is mentioned, I was glad we were spared the over used trope of seduction in the folly!
I gather this is the first of a series and I am looking forward to pre ordering the next volume as soon as it is available.

I usually enjoy reading Caroline Warfield, but I must admit, this one was difficult until about halfway through. I fell for Gideon's strength of character in the Ashmead series, and although one knew from the start, it would be difficult for him to return to Glenmoor. However, my own personal sensibilities made it unbearable for the horrid treatment an entire village cast upon him. Of course, Mia was always the shining salvation from the beginning and at least their personal story salvaged the read. The good guys are really, really good and the bad guys are really, really evil. I suppose I just can't deal with that much evil at my age. Of course, by the end, I loved it, but the anger that it stirred up in me shows Ms Warfield's superior writing skills. She definitely takes you on a roller coaster ride on this one, with the depths being more than the highs. I just kept telling myself, as always, that Gideon is a survivor, and he would win in the end, and his family would be stronger for it.

Gideon Kendrick left his hateful father's estate years ago. The locals all believed him dead. Now his brother, the current Duke has disappeared and left instructiones for Gideon to act on his behalf.

Our hero has to face down ugly, vicious rumours and unfriendly people who will stop at nothing to get rid of him.

Mia Selwyn is the unwanted poor relation living with her uncle and cousins.

Our heroine is a naturally loving and helpful woman. She puts everyone else before herself, even at risk to her life.

We have many mysteries to solve in this story and lots of danger for our fabulous characters. It is emotional in places and our hero has a physical condition that causes him problems. If you have read previous books by this author you might have met our hero before. This is however a different series .

I thoroughly enjoyed this and look forward to more of the new series.

I loved it.

What a way to start a new series! Gideon Kendrick, like a lot of other people, believe his brother, the duke, to be dead. Of course, they once believed Gideon was dead, among a lot of other ridiculous things. When he receives a letter from his brother asking him to act in his stead in matters of the estate, he reluctantly does so. Mia Selwyn lives with her uncle and cousin. The Selwyn estate borders Glenwood. Mia and Gideon have a rather exciting story. There are secrets, mystery, rumors, thieves, interlopers, an attempt on Gideon’s life, danger, action, adventure, and a slow burn romance. There are also three cute children (Gideon’s) and a loveable and protective bear of a dog. The story is well-written and holds your attention start to finish. Gideon and Mia are surrounded by interesting characters, the good, the bad, and everything in between. I look forward to the next book, Duke in Name Only.

4.25 STARS

At times the story was slow and it also was frustrating. I disliked, with a passion two people who moved into the Duke's home. The H had the authority to toss them out. I didn't care for how they talked down to everyone and for that reason alone they should've been shown the door.

I liked the ending and how the lives of the H/h/Duke were resolved. But, I wanted to know the outcome of all the villains.

The cousin of the h was spoiled brat and after the h left her side she became a strong heroine. The H has been dealt a bad life from early on, but made the most of it. I wanted the staff who treated them awful to be fired. I loved the H's children and how they put the town folk to shame.

Lovemaking within marriage - heat level 3 out of 5. They were a sweet couple and worked well together. No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, romantic and some spice. I can't improve on the blurb, just giving you some tidbits to decide to purchase this story. (ljb)

Gideon's story

Oh my! Gideon is a successful, yet formidable man who travels from his home in Wales to assist his absent brother in overseeing his English estate. Gideon has always been thought of as a dim witted cripple - the bastard son of the the late Duke with a terrible reputation. In reality, he is not only a wealthy mine owner in Wales, he's much more.
Mia Selwyn, orphaned niece of Viscoubt Clavering, is curious about Gideon. She not deterred by his appearance or his reputation, believing in the man rather than rumors. Together, they unravel the mystery of the true Duke of Glenmoor, while setting right the wrongs of the past.
Another truly engaging work, with a hint of the future story of Gideon's brother, Philip. This is a well done, clean read waiting to be enjoyed.

A truly magnificent story, full of intrigue, sorrow (yes my eyes teared up a couple of times), injustice and a journey to healing that brought out all my emotions.

Once I began on page one, I seriously could not stop until I turned the last page and then I just wanted to message the author and tell her what a tremendous story and start to a new series. Caroline's magic pen shines bright, as you quickly become involved in the lives of these characters.

I ached for Gideon and the physical difficulties he had and at a time when there was not a lot of medical knowledge to help. The special saddle he used reminded me of one used with therapeutic riding for children with the same challenges.

Mia was a treasure, making the best of what life handed her and remaining calm when I wanted to rage at her uncle and cousin..

Anyway, I truly cannot wait for more!! Kudos!

Looking for the Duke

Gideon Kendrick received a letter from his half brother Phillip the
Duke of Glenmore. Phillip asked his brother to go to his estate and oversee it.
Gideon arrived at the estate from Wales and almost ran over a lady walking. He is given hard time by both the butler and steward. He tells them he's here on behalf of his brother. He shows the steward the letter from the attorney, says have to verify it.
Gideon trys to review the estate books and met with resistance. The heir in waiting is there and feel he's the new Duke.
All the intrigue and mystery going on, attempted kidnapped and attempted more. And along the way Gideon finds love. A packet arrives from Phillip what in the package?

Brotherly love

Carolyn doesn't disappoint! Wonderful story of dedicated brothers doing what they can for each other. One to right a massive wrong, the other to hold the estate together until his brother returns. Lots of dynamics, twists, turns, lies, betrayals and unexpected loyalty. Toss in a bit of nice clean romance, some delightful children, a faithful hound and, well, you just have to read it. I couldn't put it down and can't wait for the next book in this series, Phillip's story maybe? I highly recommend this book and others written by Carolyn, she is a master at creating memorable characters and strong friendships that carry from one book to the next. Happy reading.

Euphemia Aka Mia is just like a Cinderella except she is a cousin to the favorite.
Selina is the the pampered daughter who is determined to marry well she walks in a rain storm to tempt the heir presumptive and gets influenza after she nearly dies it is apparent poor Gideon Duke in name should wed one of them.
There was always chemistry between Gideon and Mia so they are a perfect match.
But there are liars, thieves, embezzlement and kidnapping attempts! It starts off a little slow but oh my it’s soon nonstop actions!
Mia is a sensible, beautiful young woman who is much younger than Gideon. He has a sense of humor and in spite of his age he is definitely not a half wit cripple! Together they are a force to be reckoned with and definitely deserve a HEA!
Bravo!

The first in The Entitled Gentlemen series does not disappoint. I absolutely fell in love with the Gideon and Mia, from the first page I was swept away with their turbulent romance. Duke in all but Name is filled it with great cast of strong willed characters that come off the pages and pull you into this emotional ride that keeps you involved until the very end, with passion, lies, betrayals prejudice, hostility of towns people and with a mysterious plot. With setting descriptions and action sequences that are wonderfully vivid that brings the story to life and brings this read together perfectly!
I look forward to the next book, Duke in Name Only.

Gideon is not your typical tall, dark, and handsome physically fit hero. Instead he is a man with a physical infirmity from birth that has shaped him into a true gentleman worthy of the title of hero. His story and subsequent marriage to Mia is well developed and a pleasure to read. There are villains to be thwarted in a most satisfying way. And a trio of children to lend smile or two. When reading The Defiant Daughter (part of The Ashmead Heirs series) I was intrigued by Phillip & Gideon and excited to learn that their stories would be included in The Entitled Gentleman Series. Caroline Warfield has once again offered up a delightful read to curl up with on a cold winter’s day.
