CONGRATULATIONS, you’ve won! On the night of Hallows’ Eve a few lucky shoppers are about to have a night that they’ll never forget…
On the outskirts of the remote town of Sherwood, everyone is abuzz about the big glamorous new mall that is soon to open. To add fuel to the excitement, some lucky shoppers will be able to spend the night at the Village Square Mall before its grand opening. As the malls' doors are being locked shut, a wickedly rad party is about to commence. But against the backdrop of flashing neon lights and blaring music, the lucky winners soon learn that an evil figure is locked inside the mall with them.
When the crazed blood-thirsty maniac begins a killing spree. FBI agent Emma Griffin is stunned at the trail of carnage she finds. On this thriller night, evil is reigning terror. The winners are full of fright and fighting for their lives. And Emma and Sam soon learn that many of them will not survive the night to see Halloween.
It’s a thriller night. A killer is on the loose and the beast will continue to strike.
The story starts out exciting, easy to get involved in the story right away. The mall massacre is absolutely terrifying. As Emma and her husband get involved in what happened right in their town, the story gets a little confusing. I didn't think the ending was believable. So many missing persons over 30 years in a small area, and no one figured out what was going on. I do like the main characters, so I will read the next mystery.
Read for the Halloween vibes. I liked the 80s slasher of it all and thought the horror scenes were well-done. The ending was a bit convulted and unbelievable that noone had caught on.
I was very entertained by this crime mystery. My only real complaint was that the description of the murders made up 2/3 of the book, which made it so that the investigation, confrontation with the villain, and resolution felt a bit rushed and underdeveloped.
Another interesting "slasher" mystery. I'm not sure why I enjoy reading these...I would never go to a slasher film. Oh well, now that I've read the first 2, I'm sure I'll read the next 2 (or is it 3) in the series. The concept for this one was certainly unusual. A new corporation is opening a wonderful new mall in the small town of Sherwood. It's being touted as the new community center and the answer to all the shopping conveniences anyone could ever want. Prior to the grand opening, a number of prominent citizens from the community are invited to a "sneak peak" evening. No one realizes that for some of them it will be the last shopping, dancing and eating they'll ever enjoy. This was pretty riveting until the actual solution rolled around. I thought the ending was a little weak and very confusing.
In the second installment of the Emma Griffin Retro Series, a new shopping mall is opening up just outside of Sherwood, and local land owners have been split on selling off land to make it happen. Despite protests through every step, the mall is just weeks away from the grand opening, and there's a drawing for a limited access overnight event of shopping. During the event, a masked assailant appears and starts a killing spree while the event is being broadcast on live TV. Emma and Sam are watching from home when they realize something is terribly wrong. Can they find the assailant and figure out the what, why and how?
A.J. has easily become my favorite author. People enjoy TV series, watching season after season. Emma and the squad are the book readers version of just that. I eagerly await each new book and every one of them spins its own web of mystery with enough of the daily grind to feel like you are right there with all of them. The story lines aren't far fetched like some can be. There is enough to keep you guessing without being entirely obvious. Even if you figure out the who or the why before it's over you still feel the pull to see how it all plays out. Keep them coming and I will read them all.
I almost DNF’d this book. The writing was weird and it couldn’t make up its mind if it wanted to be a horror book, cheesy hallmark book, or a crime solving mystery. I guess in the end all three are good examples of what the book is. The style of writing was awkward and it was throwing me off. As a big horror fan and even bigger mall lover I was thrown off by the whole killing spree then back to the mystery book. I did like the crime closing part and wish I would have put more of an emphasis on that part and not so much on the killing. Overall, it’s a decent book. If I had nothing on my TBR I would look into the other Emma Griffin novels.
Wow! I could not put this down! What an ending! Emma and Sam just show up to an event at a new mall in Sherwood after reading something is not right during the live broadcast. The terror and chaos is truly horrific. As a reader, I could stop reading til I learned more. The characters are always described in detail, and the stories are unique, so I knew I would enjoy this book since I am already an Emma Griffin fan. I am looking forward to the next book.
This second installment, in the Emma Griffin retro series, is a great page turner that doesn’t disappoint. You’re pulled in right from the beginning as the well fleshed out characters navigate their way through a tense 1980’s slasher film style mall massacre (like the movie Scream). This retro series is my favorite from A. J. Rivers. Each book is a completely different stand alone worth the read.
AJ Rivers writes several fantastic series. One is about Emma Griffin in current time. This one is about Emma if she had been in the FBI in 80s, before cell phones, the Internet, and other conveniences. It gives a fun twist to a story line I know will from reading the other series.
Man what a story this one was!!! I had a hard time putting it down. It certainly had allot of twists and turns to it & such brutal killings! I had to stop reading one night for fear of nightmares… leave it to Emma to figure it all out. As usual I look forward to reading her next book.
The Girl on Hallow's Eve(Emma Griffin FBI Mystery Retro- Limited Series Book 2)
OMG!!!!!!!! I absolutely loved this book. It was exciting and scary, I didn't know who the killer was until the very end and that made it extremely difficult to put the book down. I can't wait for the next one.
I will not lie... I'm a horror fan, but this author has an amazing way of telling a gripping story that literally kept me guessing until there were only three pages left! I love the main characters. I love that! The writing really has no flaws. I'm ready for the next book. Read this!
What do these two things have in common?…Ask Agent Emma Griffin and her husband Sheriff Sam….New malls bring about change and sometimes can bring out the worst in some and DEADLY curiosity in others…Thought it would be fun to spend the night in a complex mall of shops and tunnels…? Well maybe NOT after you read Emma’s latest tale….
Another great read by A J Rivers! This time she takes you to the pre grand opening of a new mega mall in a town close to Sherwood. Only a 100 people, plus each guest was allowed to bring one person with them The party was kind of over the top with loud disco music, strobe lights and a killer. You'll have to read the book to find out what happens next.
The Retro Limited Series is everything I didn’t know I needed and more. I’m not into movies like that, but for some reason this series seems to have me hooked. Such a great read, it honestly had me at the edge of my seat and I couldn’t wait to get to the end to see what Emma and Sam could find out.
This book started out so slowly that I almost decided not to finish it. I'm glad I didn't give up because it got real exciting once the scenes in the mall began. It was so disturbing and suspenseful. I never would have been able to guess the ending.
I did not enjoy this book. The first half of this book I just pages threw. It was boring so I did not read the book till the last part of the book. That was the only exciting part of the book. I would not recommend this book.
I thought I knew how the disaster would manifest itself. Boy was I wrong! A well told story. If this book were made into a movie, the movie wouldn't be able to relate the horror of what happened, but I rarely find a movie to be as compelling as the original book.
I really don't know how A.J. Rivers creates these stories but they are absolutely amazing. I have read the entire 21 book Emma Griffin series and now the first 2 in the Retro series and not one book has dissapointed. Highly recommend.
This book mystified me from the start. Then, the wholesale mall scene - and what actually happened to Emma’s personalized invitation to the grand pre-opening event? I must have missed something!
The ending of this book Made absolutely no sense. Robbing and killing people 30 prior to return and kill 20 more. What the heck was that about? And George the reporter seeming guilty and uncooperative mysteriously assign the investigation. This book Was a waste of time
I was actually feeling really let down with how slow moving the beginning of this book was, in comparison to the first of the series, but I was definitely pleasantly surprised with it! If you're feeling bored at first STICK WITH IT!
I really enjoyed this book. It was probably one of her shortest book. I did not figure why the things that happened did happen. As always, it was an edge of your seat thriller that makes you want more. Next book, here I comel
The first book, Girl in the Mist developed the protagonist more, and was more of a psychological puzzle. In this book the ending was not developed as well, and reader was caught by surprise when it ended. Not in a good way...
I am really enjoying these retro/slasher stories! I liked that this one dug deep into the background and history of the land the mall was built on and the lands former owners, but it also had plenty of terrifying action!
I love Emma and Sam. I loved learning more about their relationship and had wondered what really happened to her Dad and when she called him I was like gsssppp. I love the mystery of who done it. All the characters really shine. Off to the 3rd book!!!
I love reading about Emma in these retro series! And talking about the big malls that were springing up everywhere during this time was going back I. Time for me. The one that went up near me took a farm and a drive-in theatre. Makes you wonder….
