Mead Mishaps #2.5

A Bump In Boohail: A Mead Realm Tale

Rate this book
Samhain was the biggest festival of the year. It was the time that the veil between our world and the otherworld thinned, meaning any manner of spirits could come through and wreak havoc. Not that I had anything to worry about with a dragon at my side. This year the festival would be the perfect excuse to snuggle up with my partner and enjoy Fall in full swing. Or at least it would have been, if I could find him.

This is a short story set in the Mead Mishaps series featuring Cinnamon and Fallon and is not a stand alone. It should be read after That Time I Got Drunk And Yeeted A Love Potion At A Werewolf.

“Happy motherfucking Samhain, you prick. ”

“I won’t shit myself this year. I won’t do it”.

“Click clack clack”.

Well that was a nice snack! It was fun to revisit some characters from Boohail and the Mead Mishaps series. This reads in under an hour and is a cute little pick me up as we wait for the next instalment from this author.

All of my favs are back in this super short and steamy and a little spooky novella! Honestly, what a T R E A T! I would’ve taken a single crumb if Kimberly Lemming offered it, but this is an entire meal! I think one of the biggest reasons I love this series is because it’s so completely obvious that the author had a BLAST writing it and, in turn, I was also grinning from ear to ear from page 1 to page 44.

I didn’t realize how much I missed this world. 10/10, 5 ⭐️

A bit too short and not overly interesting. I would've preferred this to be more like the other novella that had a story/plot, instead of character crumbs. But it wasn't bad.

Mead Mishaps is one of my favourite series ever.
It's funny, kind of quirky, sweet and spicy! It makes my day every time I get to jump back into this world.
This novella was just a little epilogue in Cinnamon's POV (fmc from book #1). This all happens between books #2 & #3 and it was hilarious.
This one would make the perfect novella for Halloween if your looking for a quick read!

It was so fun getting to be with these characters again! I’m a Cin/Fallon girlie so I’m glad this mostly focused on them. Their steamy scenes have been my favorite so far in this series, and this novella was no different. The humor was fun in this one too, and somewhat reminiscent of Talia Hibbert’s brand of humor (but a bit more wacky). Super short, but I had a great time!

Kimberly also just posted the cover for the 3rd book and I’m SO excited for Dante’s book🥰

Note: Some of my goodreads shelves can be spoilers

Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Readability: 📖📖📖📖
Feels: 🦋🦋🦋
Emotional Depth: 💔 (By itself, it’s quite short and more plot based but read book 1 and you will get to know the characters!)
Sexual Tension: ⚡⚡
Romance: 💞💞💞
Sensuality: 💋💋💋💋
Sex Scene Length: 🍑🍑🍑🍑
Steam Scale (Number of Sex Scenes): 🔥
Humor: Yes
Perspective: first person from the heroine
More character focused or plot focused? plot
How did the speed of the story feel? fast
When mains are first on page together: It takes awhile...about 41% (or chapter 2 of 3 of this short story)
Cliffhanger: No, this ends happily for the couple
Epilogue: No
Format: read an e-book version through kindle unlimited
(Descriptions found at end of my review)

A small rabbit charm lined with diamonds glittered in the pale moonlight. The band was an elegant string of rose gold that hugged loosely against my ankle. “Oh, it’s so cute!”
“Good.” Fallon ran his fingers along my thighs, teasing them further apart. “I kept going back and forth between that and a necklace – yet whenever I thought about anything else wrapped around your throat, my hands grew terribly jealous.”

Should I read in order?
YES! You should, at minimum, read book 1 of the Mead Mishaps series (That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon) because this feels like an extended epilogue. But the whole series is so fun, so reading the whole thing in order is a great choice.

Basic plot:
Cinnamon and Fallon experience a Samhain festival together.

Give this a try if you want:
- fantasy romance with a historical feel
- Samhain celebration
- short story
- medium steam – 1 full scene that takes up most of the second chapter

Ages:
- They might be mentioned in book 1, didn’t see them listed here

First line:
“Cinnamon, go talk to your husband or I’ll hit you with another pumpkin spice pancake.”

My thoughts:
I really enjoyed this short story! I haven’t read Kimberly Lemming in awhile, and picked up the next book in the series for me (this one) because of the Diverse Baseline Challenge. It made me miss her work so much and now I want to catch up on everything I missed!

This is a short story, and definitely best after reading book 1 because it feels like an epilogue for Cinnamon and Fallon’s story. Fun, with a bit of light spookiness.

This was a really fun short story. It didn’t have the adventure of the other books, but I found it to be a great palate cleanser between the main books that I am now binge reading in 3 days because I just love the series so much. It isn’t quite as good as the others but it’s still really fun

Don’t get me wrong, it’s cute! However, I am not OK with loved ones scaring their loved ones shitless. I would punch them all. And it doesn’t seem fair to have the other villagers be subject to the fall out.

This reminds me of something that bugged me in the first book. He scares her so that she will cuddle with him. Apparently, this is a frequent practice of his! How will she know it is not safe if he always scares her so she assumes any unsafe situation is due to her jerk of a husband!?

He is not a total jerk but I would not be OK with him scaring me!

Brie shrugged and patted her husband on the shoulder. "Sorry Cin, but we've decided to spend the night reviving one of the older traditions of Samhain."
I tilted my head. "Which tradition?"
Brie grinned. The type of grin that sends chills down your spine and makes children cling to their ma's skirts. "Human sacrifice."
With that, Felix moved the boulder back into place, leaving me trapped.

I'm still not sure if I like Kimberly Lemming's writing style, so naturally I keep reading her books waiting for an epiphany.
I didn't love this at the beginning. People trying to scare each other is just... you know, why? At least to me... especially since some of the things seemed a bit extreme - but I kind of liked how it untangled in the end. I mean
All in all, this was kind of hilarious, but also... it's still not entirely my thing. Idk... but I really love how readable the style is and when I'm in a mood for something easy, funny and steamy, Lemming is actually a pretty good pick, even though it's not a perfect fit for me, so... waiting for the next full novel!
P.S. Also, still waiting for the lamia or centaur story. You can't tease like that and then don't deliver!

Very short. So much that it felt lacking a bit.
I was nice to check in with Cin and Fallon though.

Short

I love check-ins with Fallon & Cinnamon. This short though read like a deleted scene that just ended. So while I loved the checkin I was left not sure what was the purpose of the hole and why the secrecy. Listen I will read anything Kimberly Lemming writes so I guess I don't have to have all the answers.

A short little nugget of a story starring Cinnamon and her shapeshifting demon. Fallon's off being secretive and Cinnamon's TRYING to give him his space, but her curious nature and the fact she loves her honey something fierce and misses his big personality has her making some questionable choices to figure out what he's up to. One jaunt through a subterranean lair later and she's satisfied her curiosity, found her honey-bunny, and is planning some GLORIOUS retribution upon her prank-loving brother.

Fun, quick, and pretty darn sexy because Cinnamon and Fallon kind of can't keep their hands off one another when they're sharing space. GOOD TIMES!

This is a novellette following Cinnamon, as the community is preparing for Samhain celebrations, her husband has holed himself up at home doing something mysterious. It has a great balance of cozy and spooky-lite framing, sandwiching a great spicy scene in the middle. Definitely insubstantial, but I'd struggle to point out anything that could have been done better within just 40 pages.
