The Wild has always had its share of threats. For most of us, that threat involves a dental deformity, a hankering for juicy veins, and a superiority complex.
But that all changes when one of the villages is brutally attacked.
Once again I find myself tackling the region’s problems, along with my merry band of werewolves and powerful new allies. Throw a rogue zombie in the mix and we’ve got ourselves a party—except we’d like nothing more than to roll up the welcome mat.
With vampires literally out for blood and a price on my head, I should be laying low, but the dire situation forces me to engage with Lord Doran, and I’m not sure either one of us is ready for that reunion. Even so, I have to set aside the past for the sake of the future.
The fate of The Wild depends on it.

This is an extraordinarily entertaining urban fantasy adventure series. A great cast of characters and a unique and entertaining storyline. Esther is a witch who lives in the wilds of what used to be Alaska. Many years after the great irruption’s that had all the super volcanoes on earth explode at the same time and expel so much ash and debris into the atmosphere that it blocks out the sun to this day. When it happened supernaturals came out of the woodwork and out of hiding and vampires being the dominant species able to survive in the dark are now rulers of the earth. Werewolves fairies dragons witches and many other supernatural‘s also came out of hiding. Mini mythical creatures came out of the super volcanoes and now probably hurt as well. This is the third trilogy in this series 2 till the story of a witch who is part of a prophecy that will one day bring back to sun. Read on and find out what happens to ask her and her crew in the second book of the trilogy. A fun and action packed story and a great read.
Don't assume Annabel Chase's Hoodish character in any way wears a similarly heavy cloak of the Robin Hood played by Kevin Costner, Russel Crowe, or even the gifted Disney fox. Golden Hood's catch me if your can star, Aster, is the Hooded One and one BAB!
The Wild is her playground, where she usually robs the oppressive vampires of their ill-gotten taxes, but her extraordinary forest is dying. It's been dying ever since the vamp overlords killed Aster's entire coven. Balance must be found, and all prophecy roads lead to Aster's hidden light (and maybe help from an unexpected fangish foe)!
Midnight Empire is an original (very original) take on a classic tale! I love it!!!! I can not wait to get my hands on the third and FINAL book, Midnight Burns!
This is my first book of a post-apocalyptic world. 8nhave never even thought of life after the world goes through a catastrophic event, 8nnthis case a day where 6ten volcanos around the 48ingnof fire all exploded and changed the world forever. 0rettybfascina5ing socially. Lots of war. For some reason the return of a alll sorts of mythological creatures witches and all supernatural even humans trying to survive together to survive the what is now a dark world run by evil vampires. Naturally they rule the world through fear mongering, torturing and massive killing. But maybe, just maybe there is a change a coming. interesting book.
Lots of emotion, betrayal, love and even babies brought to us by the author.
It improved the perception I had of Aster. She is strong and very risk taking. She will do anything for her family and she proved it by agreeing to go with the inquisitor before they hurt her people.
She was brilliant in her plan with the Unsulti demon and with transporting the dragons. In these last chapters I appreciated more the attunement with Doran. Both are beings of tranquility and pacifism while Max is a thrill junkie. While Aster would have adventures, he would lack that peace he appreciates in the Wild if they agreed to join the ghost pack.
The second book of the series continues with the kick-ass Aster and her crew of misfits solving more mysteries and helping the human villagers against unsuspecting forces. Max, the Great While Wolf who was first introduced in book one, works alongside Aster in this book, as well as the very sexy vampire Doran. If you like action, mystery, magic and most of all humor, the you will definitely enjoy this series/book.
- Vampire love interest was too swoony over her considering they'd only met for a total of five minutes ever - A lot of problems with the plot. - Her crew is still not very likeable
Our merry band of outlaws are still at it. After the burning of a village by dragon-fire, they must find a way to get the dragons gone. They ally themselves with Max and the Ghost Pack to get things done. Only a month to wait for the next book I keep telling myself.
I absolutely loved this story! It was filled with witches and magic, vampires and necromancers, werewolves and dragons, celebration and life, treachery and life. Enjoy!
I've read all the midnight empire sagas, and have enjoyed every twist and turn, this latest series is just as brilliant and I'm looking forward to reading the last book in this trilogy and also the final in the saga.
The book was good, but I find that Aster is too trusting at times. I get wanting peace, who wouldn't, but her character is a bit naive, and it's starting to aggravate me.
Where is the romance? The series is way too slow in this department. I needed some spice!
The book left you hanging.throughout the book Doran acts like he is trying to make amends by seeming show affection for Aster. I was almost shocked when it appeared that Doran had betrayed her. The question remains, did Doran betray her or does he truly have feelings for her?

Great adventure story filled with plenty of excitement, surprises, danger love and lots of magic. I would recommend this to anyone that enjoys enjoys lots of excitement along with lots of magic.
The characters and story work pretty well. I enjoy the humor, but wish there was romance--instead you get very brief encounters that often make no sense. This is not great plot or character development, but it is enjoyable to read nonetheless.
Just when all seems well, things bound of control. What will happen to Astra. Will Doran intervene and save the day. What about Max. What about the rest of the group. Will they live. Will the baby live?
There is waaaaay too much going on. The vampires, dragons, zombies, a necromancer, wolf pregnancy, a God"s weapons (wth?).... It's just too much and for no good reason. Aster is pretty unlikable, too. Oh, and it ends on a cliffhanger.
I so hoped this would get better….it didn’t. I’ll admit I skimmed a lot of this book just because I wanted to find something redeemable. I refuse to quit I’m heading to book 3 just to read the last chapter.
If you have been following the series be ready for it. It is a doozy but finally looks like all the pieces in the chessboard will be in the same place. Three series converge in one.
Book 2 has danger from all sides, mystery, new revalations, magic, dragons and loads of paranormal characters, and some humor. Our heroine gets herself into more adverse situations and a surprise ending. Highly entertaining.
This was definitely an action packed book. Full of adventure and craziness from the beginning to the end. It does leave you hanging majorly. To see how it all ends in the third book.
I have loved Annabel Chase's books for a long time. Just what need to feed my need for fantasy, action, and romance. Plus I get to learn stuff too. She is a wonderful storyteller.
Aster and her crew have just found a horse of dragons, still hiding from Vampires and finding answers to her magic. Thus book has a lot going on and the ending leaves me wanting more.
