Before I met Luke Reilly, the list of people I trusted was small. I was a fool to think he belonged on it.
I've started over before. This time, it's harder—almost impossible. Luke still holds my heart in his hands and refuses to let it go. But he abandoned me, and that's a betrayal he knows I can’t forgive. Just when I’ve found a way to move on, an unexpected visitor forces me to question my resolve.
A mysterious threat surfaces, holding deadly secrets that could shatter our world. Luke’s love left me in shreds, but when faced with the impossible, letting him piece me back together may be the key to our survival. Do I have the strength to forgive and risk my heart again, or will our enemies find us before I get the chance?
One thing is for certain… they may call me Sparrow, but I’m no fragile bird.
Code Name: Sparrow is the gripping conclusion of the story that began in Code Name: Timberwolf. It cannot be read as a standalone. This steamy and suspenseful super soldier romance has a HEA and is intended for an adult audience. Check the author’s website for a complete list of content warnings.
Laura Mowery has had her nose in a book since she learned her ABC’s, so it's no surprise that she pursued a career as an author. She grew up obsessed with stories, especially any that included supernatural or otherworldly elements. She also loved to get swept away on romantic adventures. Now she gets to combine the two and write about what she loves; suspense, superpowers, and steamy romance.
Laura lives in San Diego, CA with her husband, two cats and a dog. If she’s not writing, you’ll find her adventuring with her husband, eating tacos, drinking local craft beer, or curled up with a book.
5 HOT Super Soldier Stars! Laura Mowery does it again in the second book of her Infinitum Series. Except there’s more than five hot super soldiers. You’ll have to read to find out who they are and why they’re hot! This book takes us on a journey of self-discovery as Liv finds her strength and tries to figure out who she is. She and Luke face their share of trials. Can their love withstand them? It all culminates in some shocking revelations and there are some twists you won’t see coming. The guys in this series are some of the hotest, most protective Marines I've ever read. I've been swooning over Dylan since Code Name: Timberwolf: A Suspenseful Super Soldier Romance and this book just made it worse. I just finished Sparrow and I’m already counting down the days till Code Name: Grizzly comes out! If you like smart, slow burn, military/super soldier romance, Code Name: Sparrow is for you! Note: The Infinitum Series books are not standalones. Read Code Name: Timberwolf before reading Sparrow, which builds off the events of the first.
Note: This is the second half of a duet. It does not stand alone. You have to read Code Name: Timberwolf first.
I don't really know how to rate this. My personal preference is that I don't enjoy "I'm breaking up with you to protect you" OR it taking forever for people to get back together OR love triangles - and that was more than 60% of this book. Yet, I love Mowery's writing style, I understood the reasons it played out the way it did, Luke & Liv's journey was needed, and I ultimately liked the ending. I enjoy all her characters immensely. I wish the mystery/suspense aspect was more frequent in the book but, again, the reasons for it worked.
I guess I'm sort of annoyed that Mowery made me like tropes I don't like. 🤔 Overall, I still felt kind of underwhelmed at the end.
I'm definitely sucked into the Infinitum series and am looking forward to John's book next - Code Name: Grizzly.
Note: There’s a freebie novella that gives background for John called… John. It’s available via Mowery’s website/newsletter.
I was excited to read book 2 of the Infinitum Series and it did not disappoint, however there were things I liked and didn’t like so much, here’s my little review…
I love the characters and world the author has created! I’m attached to them already, and look forward to more from the series. Luke Reilly as we know from the first book is a billionaire, head of a tech company after his father passed away. He’s fallen hard for Liv Sutton but with dangerous enemies on his back he makes a decision to protect the one he loves. Olivia struggles to come to terms with this decision, and so do I to be honest!
The first part of the book takes us back into the story that ended book 1 (I highly recommend reading book 1 because it’s really good! and of course the character development continues into this book) I understood Luke’s decision but felt the separation went on too long, I felt I was skipping pages to get to the good parts….and My Word!!! the good part explodes at about 80%!! I was so invested in this story, considering the storyline has super soldier elements which is not normally my thing, I found this highly enjoyable (there’s a few super sexy soldiers which may have helped with my enjoyment lol) the romance was slow burn (holy moly the dreams scenes!) and when the suspense kicks in, the author adds twists, turns and a few shocking surprises.
I LOVED all the secondary characters that we fell in love with from book 1 and we have some intriguing new characters to fall in love with. “Helloooo Charlie” 😍
I’m looking forward to watching this series build, and to where the author will take us readers, I’m addicted and ready for book 3!
Luke almost lost Liv because of some people who are after his father’s secrets. Luke can’t forgive himself for putting the love of his life in danger, so he comes up with a plan to let her go before anything happens.
Liv has nightmares after what happened and every time she’s in Luke’s arms, they disappear. She can feel Luke pulling away from her, distancing himself and keeping secrets. When he tells her he’s going to leave her to keep her safe, she’s devastated.
She goes back to stay with her father for a while, away from Luke and everything that reminds her of him. While she’s away, weird things happen. Does Liv have any superpowers, or is it just her brain playing tricks on her after a bad breakup?
I have a few things that annoyed me in this one. It’s kind of unrealistic that everyone who sees Liv falls in love with her. Or at least all the males who get to know her like her. Also, the whole thing of I’m leaving you to protect you, but I still love you rarely work out. It was predictable. Liv’s stubbornness made the story longer than it could’ve been. I just didn’t understand why it had to take that long to figure out she still loved Luke. The superpower aspects weren’t that many, and it only appeared in the end. So it’s not really a suspenseful super soldier romance, it's more of a romance with a confusing cliffhanger.
I enjoyed it too, even though I got annoyed. Any book that gets any kind of reaction from me is a book I enjoy. The writing style is great but sometimes it feels rushed. The relationship between the characters is something I missed reading about after finishing the first book, so it was great to see them again. Forgiveness, heartbreak, and friendship shine through the words in this book. I wanted to see more of John and the superpowers, but I guess we’ll get that in the next book of the series.
This series has much to offer. Romance, heartbreak, second chances, action, suspense, and superpowers. If you’re a fan of reading about any of these, this book might interest you.
Code Name: Sparrow is the conclusion of the Luke and Liv Duet within the Infinitum Series.
When a series can get me sucked in by the first book, it's a big deal. I fell in love with Luke and Liv in Code Name: Timberwolf, and this second installment was a perfect addition to this story.
When Luke believes that putting distance between him and Liv would be for her own safety, I wanted to punch his lights out. But at the same time, you couldn't help but swoon for the intense love he has for her.
But I HAVE to hand it to Laura, she built Liv into such a bad ass--a woman who doesn't crumble when things don't go her way. Throughout this story, Liv learned to navigate Luke's absence with such grace. She learned who she was without compromising her dignity.
Now of course, I'm sooooo in love with the other men within the series: Jackson, Brando, Jordy, Garrett, Dylan, and Mark. They're the best friends we all want in life. Never afraid to tell Luke when he's being dumb.
The drama, the heartache (and not just the romantic kind), the friendships make this series so captivating. I can't help but put myself into this story--even as just a bystander and watching it all unfold.
I had a ton of questions when Timberwolf ended, and a lot of them were answered in Sparrow. BUT, I think there is so much more to this series than meets the eye. There's SO much more to discover and Laura keeps us captivated through all of it. I can't wait for Code Name: Grizzly! I'm so excited to lose myself even more into this Infinitum world!
*I was given a free ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review*
This review pains me to write. I had high hopes for this second book as I enjoyed the first one so much. I don't like leaving less than 4 stars, but I feel like I need to write this 3 star review.
First, let me say, I didn't hate the book, or it would be a one star, but I definitely finished this one with a lot of frustration. Second, I really like this author's writing style, and I will continue reading the series.
Here is what didn't work for me: I felt a serious disconnect with Luke. We got a lot of Liv's POV, which is fine, but it pulled me out of Luke's feelings. I also got way too attached to Charlie in Liv's POV. In addition, 80% of the book was about Luke and Liv struggling to come back together (which got redundant), then there was about 5% reconciliation, 5% action at the end. The last part I thought was going to shed a better light on the whole situation they find themselves in, only for most details to be glossed over. As a reader, I'm still confused about a lot of things at the end of book 2.
I do adore the side characters and am especially interested in hearing Vera, Charlie, and John's stories, but it seemed as if the side characters actually carried the book, instead of Luke and Liv. Unfortunately, I just could not connect with their story like I wanted to. As I already said, even though book 2 fell short for me, I will continue on with the series and am excited to read John's story.
This is a great sequel to the first book in this series. It starts off where the last one finished and the story kicks on from there. The characters are all well written and believable, their reasoning and motivation clear, even though at certain points I wanted to bang their heads together and talk some sense into them! But that just made them more human; they make mistakes, they're stubborn and pig-headed. All the things which makes them real people living through their real lives, even though they're super soldiers!!
The end tease of what will happen in book 3 was brilliant! I can't wait to dive into it!
I was lucky enough to receive an arc for this book.
Subject: Book 1 was amazing, Book 2 is even better
Laura Mowery did it again! The much-awairmted Code name: Sparrow did not disappoint, not even for a page. The story made me emotional at times, especially when Luke and Liv were apart. I kept rooting for them the work things out. Then came the suspense/danger, and the storyline hooked me even more. The journey to Liv discovering who she really was, it was like watching a movie.
Luke and Liv's reunion?🔥🔥🔥🔥 That's all I will say.
I also appreciate how the side characters got some love too. Jordy was probably favorite, but I liked them all.
Bottom line, if you love a good superhero (steamy) romance that includes nail-biting action and adventure, and if you want a story with loveable, interesting characters, then Code Name: Sparrow is definitely for you.
I recieved an ARC for a voluntary but honest review. And I couldn't resist purchasing a copy for my re-read list!
Mowery’s sophomore release, “Code Name: Sparrow”, book 2 of the Infinitum Series is another winner. Right from the beginning I had a lump in my throat and knew this was going to be one angsty read. In part two of this Duet, we find Luke and Liv both trying to process and deal with what happened in book one Code Name: Timberwolf. When Luke does the unthinkable out of protection in his mind, he sends their relationship into a tailspin which also causes some tension within the ranks. Some questions from book one are answered, while others present themselves continuing the overall mystery. I am totally invested in this group of guys and want them all to get their HEA like Luke and Liv finally do. Impatiently waiting for the next book in the series! I highly recommend reading book one to understand the full scope of what is happening in book 2.
A solid 4 stars, and honestly would have been 5 stars if Liv had been a little more proactive. As a new reader to Laura Mowery I have been consistently impressed by this series. She writes her characters really well, the story is engaging and moves at a good pace, and the plot is character driven. These are all big pluses for me.
What I liked:
- Liv was a realistic character, she wasn't perfect. I kind of love that. It adds realism to the story that our main characters aren't amazing and always perfect.
- Luke was both respectful of Liv's need for space and still fought to get her back in relatively healthy ways. In my experience this is odd normally authors go too far and make the guy obsessive or controlling, and make their leading lady overly emotional or a pushover. This novel was an excellent middle ground.
What I didn't like:
- My main frustration was the use of the 'leaving her to protect her' trope and Liv's refusal to look beyond herself when she was at the farm. We all need a break, but 6-12 months? Brutal. I don't know anyone who could afford to do that.
Overall a great series that I would recommend. I'll absolutely be reading the next book.
I absolutely LOVED the first book! I was so let down and mad at this one. First, if you’re expecting the Liv or Luke to get back together before you finish 80% of the book, you’d be wrong. If you expect Liv to not kiss or touch another man, you’d be wrong. If you’d expect her to be a stubborn and stupid character, well you’d finally be right. Those are the only spoilers I’ll give for now but I truly wanted to give up on this book about 50% in. I told myself not to because they had to be getting back together soon. She’d see how unfair, stubborn, and ridiculous she’s being and be let him show her that she can trust him. NOPE! I am hesitant to read the third book if all the characters are able to easily be swayed from their partners. Some forever love Liv had for Luke if she is trying with another man.
This is the second part of Luke and Liv's story, so definitely read book 1 first.
After all the excitement and action of book 1, I was really looking forward to book 2. It was a lot slower in pace than the first.
This book is mostly about Liv and her 'getting over' her relationship with Luke. It felt like just as she was getting back on her feet, he decided to come back into her life rather than stay on the sidelines. It seemed to drag out for far too long, especially after all the excitement from book 1.
There was lots of page time with Charlie, and I felt sorry for him towards the end. He seemed to have been a little used, but I'm hoping to see more in the series.
I love the other characters in this series, Jackson being my favourite!
I'm loving all the mystery surrounding everyones powers, and I'm looking forward to the next book.
Leave it to this second installment of the Infinitum Series to *RIP OUT MY HEART* and then put it back together. Not one to lie, I was mad about how invested I was in these fictional characters. I don’t want to spoil anything. But if you are a fan of superheroes, steamy scenes, men who know what they want (most of the time, you know who I’m talking about...😒), and women who kick ass for the people they love, this is the book for you.
I refuse to spoil the fun surprises of this book. But I will say that I loved it. I need more.
Disclosure: I received an arc of this book. The review is my own.
This was probably one of the most anticipated releases for me this year after the prequel kept me up all night. And trust me, it was worth the wait! Talk about romantic suspense, drama, steam. Don't forget the action, either. My heart fell when Luke broke up with Liv, but I understand why. He sacrificed his love to keep her safe. But in the end it was for nothing because she was still in danger. Now he has to do a little groveling to get her back. Will it work? Or is it too little, too late? There's so much more to this story that I can't put in words right now. But it's definitely worth the read!
It was slower than I care for, and too repetitive for most of the book. I just wanted to skip to the end, to where all the good stuff was. Fortunately, the end was enough to make me want to read book three. The writing is great, it’s a me thing, not an author thing on needed to get where the last quarter of the book finally got us to.
Ok so 2nd book ok but not as good as the 1st.Luke and livs situation to long and drawn out..liv was a whiney baby and couldn't make up her mind but in the end did the right thing.i will continue series..on to the next !!!
Oh my gosh! I love this series! Not only are you drawn in and love the main characters. But the supporting characters are such a large part of this story, and you fall in love with them as well.
The storyline keeps you on the edge of your seat. But I found myself getting disgusted with the main female character Liv. I found her emotional garbage pulled away from the story, she came off immature and shallow. Looking forward to John's book next.
Book two and the story roles along nicely. Strong FMC with good support from all the other characters made for a good read. Bit melodramatic at times but over all good.
Laura did a fantastic job bringing all these characters to life and a well developed storyline. I think the main point is a little fuzzy right now but I’ve discovered trusting the process for the big reveal is that much more important. I’m looking forward to the next book!
