I’m well aware I stand out in a crowd, not because of the way I look, but because of the way I carry myself. My athletic build is inviting instead of intimidating, and though I look as if nothing in this world can hurt me, I have more scars on the inside than anyone could ever imagine. My name is Derek Masterson and I own Mountain Fitness in Ravish Oregon, and all I want to do is help heal others so I don’t have to focus on my own pain.
I keep to myself when I’m not at work, and I’ve been down the road of love before and I won’t do it again. My arms are covered in tattoos, each with meaning, just as my heart is covered with scars that still haven’t healed. I also have a thing for shoes rivalling most women in my small town. There’s so much my friends and family don’t know about me, because I might look like my heart’s carried on the outside, but my smile covers up the pain that constantly burns inside of me.
I have plans for my life and none of them includes Emmy Hayden, a free spirit who floats into town on a raft that breaks down right before me. Of course I help her . . . but then she doesn’t leave. It doesn’t take me long to discover that Emmy has her own secrets and I can see the scars she carries but refuses to talk about. Can I turn away from her? I don’t think I can . . . even if it means we dive into the river and drown together.

Derek lost his fiancee in s tragic accident. She was swimming in a river that had current and she couldn't get to shore. At this time he was a police officer and he decided to quit the force. He was a broken man. He decided to open a gym and was very successful. Emmy came back to town to meet with her dad, he was on the wagon from being a drunk. Emmy had a core group of friends who were unique of their stories of their own. They all lived in Ravish, Oregon. A beautiful state ! Derek was hung up on the death of his fiancee Kelly for years, unable to continue to be involved with anyone else until he was able to leave the ghost of her behind. Emmy was deeply in love with Derek. Now that's all I can say about this story because I personally don't want to ruin for you readers out there. Melody Anne has one a excellent job in writing this book. Enjoy it !!
I was totally hooked on this story from the start. You can feel the chemistry between Derek and Emmy. I couldn't stop reading until way past my bedtime once I started. Even though I wish they'd admit they love each other and take advantage of the opportunity to find love after all they've been through. I know losing a loved one is tough and people deal with trauma differently. Both Derek and Emmy were dealing with their losses the best they could. You get to know the characters and experience their lives with them through their realistic and skillfully written story.
I loved this story of Derek and Emmy! They both have been through so much. She had an alcoholic father and a distant mother. He had a father leave and then an addict for a mother and a fiance that passed away in an accident. They both had so many walls up. Emmy was first to admit she loved Derek. It takes Derek a while to let go of his past. Their road is not easy or smooth, but they find their way together. Love this book and series! I cannot wait until Booker's story!! I highly recommend this series!
Derek and Emmy were perfect for each other. Emmy came to town after her divorce, her father introduced her the Derek the owner of the local gym. Derek story deals with grief, he was a police officer and his fiancée drowned in the river. Which changed his life forever, he quit the force and moved to Ravish and open a gym. Then he met Emmy, their journey was not easy and knowing parts of the story is true is heartbreaking. Good read…
At First Sight: First Series written by Melody Anne. Ms Anne has the best way of making you feel like part of the story, looking to the characters as lifelong friends. There is always someone that you can relate to. I’m not ready to leave my friends here and I’m really glad that we will get another story with these friends and peek back into their lives at a later point.
First Series book 3. A fanfreakingtastic read. An emotional roller coaster. Hella angsty and dramatic. This book will take you there EVERY time. I sobbed, laughed, screamed at my kindle and sat quietly while clutching my pearls. No spoilers from me. Can two broken people get pass their past trauma and be in a healthy relationship? This journey of self discovery, self love, self worth, grief and living is epic.
What a truly beautiful story. It was captivating from beginning to end, both main characters were so good, yet each having lived and dealt with tragedy affecting their lives. Both of them were very different, yet the memories were still there and they had to overcome each in their own ways. This is an amazing story, full of heartbreak, loss, so many emotions and memories. Beautifully written and well thought through. Loved it.❤️
I wish I had not read the preview. This makes me wonder all through the book what's real and what's fiction. I got lost in this book. Their journey was surreal, and I could not imagine them actually living through all of that. I could see why it would be hard for you to write this. I thoroughly enjoyed this and look forward to all the rest to come. Get to writing! I've finished all your books!
Emmy and Derek. Fictional names, real people. I would have given this one 5 stars as I did the two before in this series, but since it's based on real people and real situations, I just can't. Ms. Anne writes beautiful books and I appreciate the emotional effort that went into this one. Guess I couldn't because I feel I would be cheating her magnificent talent. That being said, I wholeheartedly recommend this book!
I saw a lot of my own life in this book. Terrific amount of memories I would have preferred to remain forgotten. Nonetheless, it is a wonderful story and deserves more than 5 stars. But go back to The Andersons, I am sure there is more to tell ! Melody Ann is a wonderful story teller.
These 3 books are a must read. Each one helps understand how good overcomes evil.. it's painful to realize that each one of them tells the reality that so many children go through. Please send a prayer up to whatever God you believe in that He protects each one everyday from harm
I really enjoyed Derek and Emmy. They are imperfect but the chemistry is potent. I liked how their relationship took time as they worked through their issues and grief. Emmy is a strong heroine. I've enjoyed all the books so far.
I absolutely loved this book! I’ve literally read every Melody Anne book! I loved how this book of the series dealt more with emotion and dealing with depression and grief!
A Great story to represent the goodness of give and take love. Always changing, shifting and growing. Thank you for reminding us all what can be when the two become One.
I really enjoyed reading this book. The story between Emmy and Derek had me crying and laughing. I was very happy that in the end everything worked out for them and made them stronger.
If you've ever lost a love like me, you would really appreciate and get this book. Amazing writing..... Probably why I've read every book you've wrote Melody.
Melody what a heartbreaking story this is. I was so glad of the HEA at the end. To know this was based on your friend made it even more real. Loved Derek and Emmy.
Melody Anne writes her characters so strongly I feel like I want to go live in Ravish and that I know everyone! Please continue series I need to know about the woman who captures Bookers heart!
