What happens when two co-workers who can’t stand each other end up stuck together at a work retreat for an entire week?
Angelina BradfordI hate him. Viscerally. After our two-year long email feud, I end up stuck with him at our company retreat and I’m furious. Except, the more time we spend together, the more I struggle to reconcile the arrogant asshole who’s been making my work life impossible with the suave man who insists on taking me hiking and canoeing because he loves nature and wants to get to know me. I don’t want a relationship, but one passionate night together stirs something in me, so I decide I want to keep doing this. With rules, of course. No dinners together. No dates. No staying the night. A strict friends-with-benefits arrangement. The problem with self-imposed rules, though, is that they’re too easy to break…
Benjamin SullivanWhen I first laid eyes on her two years ago, I thought she was beautiful. Then we fell into an email war full of mutual quips and thinly veiled insults, and I decided that if she was determined to hate me, I would hate her too. Until we’re paired together at the company retreat, and I realize that I don’t want her to hate me. I spend the week trying to win her over and make her see that I’m not as bad as she thinks. But then one thing leads to another and she ends up in my bed. It’s supposed to be a one-time thing, so I’m surprised when she proposes a no-strings-attached arrangement. I agree with her rules, but as the days and weeks pass, I start wondering if there could be more between us than just sex…
Disrespectfully Yours is a workplace romance full of banter, forced proximity, a grumpy girl and a sarcastic guy who is slowly growing obsessed with her. Contains steamy sex scenes and adult language.
OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD YOU GUYS— (please tell me y’all get that reference)— I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS ABOUT THIS BOOK.
Let me start this off by saying that i’m gonna keep this spoiler free since this book isn’t out yet! i am not over exaggerating when i say this book has been one of the best reads of 2022. I already loved Academically Yours (that book was like a breath of fresh air! i reread it when i need a happy comfort read.) but Disrespectfully Yours? oh. my. god.
i’m a huge hate-to-love, office romance fan, so this was perfect for me!
ben and angelina were so perfect. the pining that they had for each other— so good! ben’s love for angelina was so pure and beautiful. i didn’t know if Jennifer could outdo Noelle and Matthew’s story but ohmygod she did!
lastly, it was so nice to see Noelle and Matthew again! i missed them so much, so it was so nice to see some crumbs of them and seeing them interact with their friends!
i can’t wait to read the next book in the Best Friends Book Club series!
thank you Jennifer, for sending me an ARC of this amazing book and letting me be a beta reader! i can’t wait to read even more of your work!
İki kitaptır yazarın son söz kısımları hoşuma gidiyor. Uzun uzun yazıyor zira. Hatta bazen bitmeyecek mi artık diye düşünüyorum 😅 Benjamin ve Angelina aynı şirkette çalışan , yüz yüze hiç denk gelmeseler de mail yoluyla alttan alta bir birleriyle çekişen iş arkadaşlarıdır. Şirket çalışanları için biraz tatil, biraz kaynaşma temalı bir etkinlikte ister istemez yolları kesişince ortalık biraz yangın yerine döndü diyebiliriz.
Benjamin'in amacı kızımızı sinir etmek.
Gerisi bunu kabul etmekle ilgili...
okay so i couldn’t finish past 8 chapters bcs things moved too fast without any context (that’s what it felt like) and the hate b/w the characters was so childish it made me cringe. other than that the male lead was annoying for no reason and fmc was just okay nothing special
I loved everything about Angelina and Benjamin's story!!! I wish there was more to the enemies to lovers part. The only reason Angelina was hostile and didn't like Ben was because they had a two year feud over email. The workplace and forced prox was just chefs kiss. The nicknames Benjamin kept calling Angelina, had me swooning. I'm a sucker for when a MMC calls his love interest Princess. I honestly melted every single time he called her that. The way Angelina kept opening up to Benjamin even though she felt like she couldn't. He helped her break down those walls. I loved seeing their relationship develop and I honestly ate this whole book up. I enjoyed this way more than the first book and I can't wait for the next two books!
⁀➴ two stars i love a hate/love story, workplace romance. my expectations were high on this one but it didn’t reach it. their sex scenes were repetitive and the plot felt so rushed, which got boring on my end. on the bright side, i finished it:)
one thing about me is that i am a sucker for workplace romances!!!
benjamin and angelina did it for me!! the way the forced proximity worked in the most perfect way possible and the way angelina let her guards down was just🤌🏼
i literally melted everytime benjamin called her “angel, princess, baby” AND WHEN I TELL YOU I HIGHLIGHTED ALMOST EVERYTHING COMING OUT OF FROM HIS MOUTH…
this is the perfect example of jennifer chipman and her brain, she literally works wonders and i fucking love her!!!! 💙
💙 Enemies to Lovers 💙 Workplace Romance 💙 Forced Proximity 💙 Friends with Benefits 💙 Grumpy Girl x Sarcastic Guy
I liked Academically Yours, I LOVED this one. I loved the angst between Angelina and Benjamin from the start. I was nervous when they got together so early, but when the situation shift from enemies to (somewhat) friends with benefits to lovers, it ended up working out really well.
Now question of the moment... where do I find myself my own Benjamin Sullivan? A sarcastic, fun, secretly nerdy man who will bring you your favorite ice cream and watch romcoms with you when you're on your period, and also is an absolute freak in the bedroom. WHERE? HAND HIM OVER? No but seriously he made the book for me. So sweet and compassionate, down for anything, and will follow his girl to the ends of the earth just to make her smile. Loved him! 🥰
Now Ms. Angelina Bradford, was the queen! Absolute workaholic that goes for what she wants, never taking a break for herself all while doing it in a kickass pair of heels👠. I love a changeup from the typical grumpy guy x sunshine girl. Angelina was absolutely the grump, and I related it to her mindset so much. Her fears and insecurities when it came to relationships, were really spot on. It was also really fun to watch have multiple "oh shit I think I like HIM" moments. Like no girl you love him, but you'll catch up with the rest of us soon enough 😉
I liked that we got more of a look into the rest of the friend group in this one! Got so much insight into where the next two books are going to go and I'm so excited.
Also side note for all my Swifties, the amount of parrells I found in the writing of this that reminded me of Taylor's songs was unreal! All I can say is I screamed HE LOOKED UP GRINNING LIKE THE DEVIL multiple times...and ya know what I liked it 😈
Can't wait to read Gabi and Hunters story next! I have to say though when Charlotte and Daniel's book comes out later this year I am going to go FERAL. Every time they pop up I'm screaming CUTIES! 🤗
I’m sorry, but it wasn’t even pass the 50% of the book that I was completely exhausted. It was just boring. I did not understand what was so important to describe all their activities and quite frankly Angelina was exhausting so I guess I am in a minority here, but they’re not for me.
Just wow, damn, oof, I am at no words cuz I am speechless AND obsessed!!. Let me tell you Ms. Jennifer is one of my new favorite indie authors. Disrespectfully Yours is Book 2 in the Best Friends Book Club series, where each book revolves around the romance of each friend in the club. Pretty similar to Ana Huang's Twisted series, where each romance is interconnected. This book has the enemies-to-lovers trope and as that is my literal catnip, I ate this one up. Lemme just mention that Benjamin Sullivan is another blueprint for a life partner. That man is TOP TIER...no wonder Angelina kept going back. This is definitely one of my top reads of the year. I only wished that the tension between them had taken longer, but no doubt in my mind this was a solid romance. Now I have to wait impatiently for Book 3 which comes out SPRING OF NEXT YEAR. I wonder what I'll do in the meantime...
˚ ༘ ೀ⋆。˚ OMFG i think this is like the most perfect read?! like if you are looking for a book where it has a good plot, amazing characters and jaw fucking dropping smut THIS RIGHT HERE
like i love how there wasn’t any thing that bother me and the characters and scenes none of it was weird or you know that was never a problem with this book and too me honestly i think one big mistake on my side was putting this book down in the first place like BIG MISTAKE
like this was the type of book where you could probably finished in one setting it had me hooked on from the very start and again when i starting to read it again
ang and ben oh my god i think i was gonna blow up if she said no to dating him like girl had some real self control bc i knew if that was me he won’t have to ask me twice like you could tell even from the reason why ben starting getting close to ang he really did like her no questions
and the plot idk why i don’t see the ending coming like promotion part all i saw was that she wasn’t ready to be in a relationship and he really wanted one with her but the ending was such a good part to add in like i felt like it was continuously the same thing (not in a bad boring way though) happening they would be together but not really together and the ending just added that perfect little push they need
OOOOOOOOH AND THE SMUT OMFG THE SMUT i count tell you how many smut scenes were in this book i definitely didn’t see that coming but it was the literal best surprise you could get like 👁👄👁 like after so many you would think it would be the same thing over and over but nope not at all Jennifer Chipman knows how to write a smut scenes i tell you had my jaw dropping for every single one of them
also have you scene the cover literally one of my all time favorite now

3.5 stars. This is an easy read romance story. I really like the concept behind this series--4 friends who love books and find love representing different tropes (this one is enemies-ish to lovers).
Comparing it to the first in the series, this one is much better. Less typos and actually had a story arc -this one had a conflict while the first had a flat linear progression). The inner monologues are still repetitive at times and I swear these books are trying to beat the Lord of the Rings: Return of the King movie for how many endings they have... I thought it was over about 3 times but nope it kept going.
I enjoy the popculture references Chipman puts in the books. It makes me smile when I have watched the movie or read the book that is mentioned (I see you vague reference to Court of Thorns and Roses!). I especially enjoyed the video game bits in this one, because I am an avid Nintendo fan. It was a small quick reference but I cant let this go...Wind Waker hasn't been ported to the Switch as it was implied...but I guess it was so ambiguously written in the scene that Ben could have been playing a GameCube and then changed to Switch to play Mario Kart 8 or had both a WiiU and a Switch...but I digress.
Over all, I enjoyed reading it more than the first, so I'm hopeful that the next one will continue to improve :)
is it me or was this book literally super boring?? i dnfed it at 54% like how did it go from showing promise in the first few chapters to be the draggy boring mess it is afterwards like make it make sense. the plot is not plotting. they’ve already rushed through all stages of enemies to lovers to fwb to casual dating in a few weeks(???) and half the book is still left. i dont have a single fckn reason to continue reading this book afterwards because it is a CERTIFIED MESS. AND THE MONOLOGUE do not get me started on the monologue. I counted one where it went on for 3 pages and for what? ugh do not trust tiktok and it’s 5 second scenarios my friends you will get burned.
Immensely better than book 1 and the banter and chemistry between these mcs was delicious! i fell in love with Benjamin he just became my latest perfect literary bf. It still has some grammar and repetitive errors but its way deeper than the first of the series and i really liked the approach to Angelina's mentality and why and how she was so guarded.
This one had spice pretty quickly but still had a sweet romance too! I loved Angelina and Benjamin’s dynamic and their romance! I love how far they came from the beginning to the end of this one! Can’t wait to continue the series!
I liked it a lot and was really moved at the beginning but it faded a bit. I was disappointed because i heard there were many comics reference and therefore expected more of them but ben just briefly talla about it unfortunately ://
A black cat plus a black dog? Who turn into a black kitten and a golden retriever? I don’t even know how to describe it other than that. Though I will say my husband loves to make me grumpy too!
Angelina x Benjamin, hate to lovers, workplace romance, forced proximity, friends with benefits, grumpy girl x sarcastic boy, he falls first
I am convinced Jennifer Chipman can do no wrong. This is the fourth book I’ve read by her, and it’s the fourth one I’ve absolutely loved. She always EXCEEDS in portraying their love and development to perfection. I never feel like their love is underdeveloped or lacking. And her MMCs???? They are ALWAYS THE best book boyfriends ever. Like in this book, Angelina and Benjamin have been arguing professionally for the past two years over email, and they finally meet at a work retreat. And this man makes it his mission to make her like him, so he basically never leaves her side. And he does so many cute things. He wanted her to go hiking with her so he bought her hiking shoes. He took her to a beautiful lake so she could sketch it and he packed her stuff for her just because he learned she liked to sketch 😭😭. He took her hiking again later and he carried her on the way back because he knew she didn't enjoy hiking as much as him. Then fast forward when they are well into their fwb stage, he asked if she wanted to come over but she’s on her period so he brought her chocolate and ice cream 😭. And when they get dressed together, he puts her heels on for her 😭. When it’s Halloween, her friends have a costume party and he chooses their outfits to be catwoman and Batman 🥲. And because he feels so safe and comfortable with her, he shows her his love for comics when every time he’s shown another girl they made fun of him 😭😭. And then because he loves her so much, he buys her a copy of his favorite comic to give her even though it’s super expensive. Like what??? How and why is he so cute??
As a book girly, I LOVE this series because it follows a group of friends who have their own books club 😭. And they have weekly hangouts and talk about their books. Like it’s so fulfilling to read about that. And I am LOVING the brief mentions of romance books like ACOTAR and Fourth Wing have been mentioned!! And then Noelle, the FMC in the first book organized a cute birthday scavenger hunt for one of the girls' birthdays where they searched for books under certain prompts and talked about them with each other 😭😭. I need this 🥲.
Favorite quotes/scenes:
“Don’t sit next to me.” “Why? Afraid you’ll like me?” “No. I’m just worried your massive ego is going to take over the entire table.” “Princess, how could it? You’re here.”
“I hate you.” “No, you don’t.” (Benjamin) “Yes, I do.” “You’re such a bad liar.” (Benjamin) “Am not.” “Are too. It’s okay, though. I like the way you lie.” (Benjamin)
“Although, you’re the most beautiful woman no matter what you’re wearing or how you style your hair.” “You’re just saying that because we’re sleeping together.” “No. I mean every word I’ve ever said to you, Angelina. I don’t care if you’re in muddy hiking boots and a layer of bug spray or campfire smoke or dressed up to the nines. You’re fucking perfect. Every piece of you.”
Angel aka Angelina: So in the book I’m reading, the guy does this thing, with his uh… *sends picture of the page* What do you think? Benjamin: Are you propositioning me for sex right now? Because I think that’s a violation of sexual harassment in the workplace. Angel aka Angelina: I wouldn’t know. I skipped the seminar to make out in a canoe. But I’m sure you wouldn’t know anything about that. Going to have to call my canoe boyfriend instead. … get over here and fuck me, please. Benjamin: Send me the next page first.
“All I could think about was that I needed this woman. I needed her glares and her fighting, her smiles and her laughter, and every inch of her fiery spirit. Because she felt like… She felt like mine.”
“Our bodies had gotten so used to being in close proximity that sometimes I wondered if our hearts beat to the same tune. If they understood each other on a fundamental level that even we, rationally, did not.” (Benjamin)
“You know you’re my best friend? Sometimes, I think you’re the best friend I’ve ever had.” (Benjamin)
“She was ingrained in my veins, in the fiber of my being. She was the water and the sun to an otherwise withering plant. I needed her warmth, her passion, and her fiery spirit. I needed her love for romance books and old movies, I needed her glares, her quips, her “I hate you” followed by a searing kiss.”
“You carved your place into my heart, and I can’t get you out. I don’t want to get you out. I want to love you for the rest of my life, because loving you is like breathing fresh mountain air for me.” (Benjamin)
“For the first time in my life, I wasn’t just existing. I was thriving, blooming under Benjamin’s touch. I’d painted a canvas with all our memories, and now I wanted to live in that world—a world that was so full of color. A world that was us.”
“I can’t believe you love me.” (Benjamin) “Well, get used to it. Cause you’re stuck with me now.” “That was the idea.” (Benjamin)
“Being with Angelina felt right, like the final piece of a puzzle slotting into place. Everything in my life made sense again. I had the woman I loved, my family, and the job I’d always dreamed of. Nothing else mattered.”
“It was a quiet sort of peace; one I wasn’t sure I’d ever really enjoyed before he came into my life. I wanted this—him, all his midnights, and all the time in between.”
“To think that, just a few months ago, I’d been opposed to this. To fall in love, to accept that someone could love me for who I was, that I could find happiness with a man by my side. I’d never been so happy to be completely, irremediably wrong.”
“Angelina Rose Bradford, from the very first moment you walked into my life, you captivated me. Then you frustrated me endlessly, made me chase after you, and I’ve never regretted one single moment. I never will. I love you when you roll your eyes at me, when you glare at me, when you challenge me; I love you when you listen to me talk about my favorite comics and I love you when you cuddle with me on the couch and we watch another romcom that we both know will end the same, but we watch it anyway because it makes you happy. I want to spend the rest my life teaching you how to play video games so you can kick my ass, I want to wake up every morning and kiss you, and maybe have a kid or two that we’ll spoil like crazy and I’ll stay home with them so that you can keep being a corporate badass. I want to do everything with you because you’re my best friend and the love of my life.”
“Are you happy?” (Benjamin) “The happiest. I never knew I could be this happy.” “I plan to make you this happy, and more, for the rest of our lives.” (Benjamin) “You better. Or I’ll divorce you and keep the cat.” “We don’t have a cat.” (Benjamin) “Not yet.”
“No matter what would happen in the future, I knew I’d always have him by my side, and that was all that mattered. Because Benjamin Sullivan was my home. And that was enough.”
