Ladonna Humphrey chases the Melissa Witt cold case down a whole new rabbit hole with a new friend in tow. I enjoyed the 1st installment of this book, but this one I finished in ONE day. As she starts believing Alicia Lockhart's account of unwittingly posing for a strange photographer, they connect the dots with of all things, a Mickey Mouse watch. They soon discover this man is well known on the dark web for Necro Porn. These two put up a brave fight as they go against a whole community of people who think this type of fetish is okay. They are threatened in all forms of communication, including one having flowers sent to her door with an "I know where you live" vibe. I so wanted them to catch this guy. He makes your skin crawl as he talks to himself and about himself through different personalities. So scary to think people like him actually exist. Justice for Melissa Witt, I hope they nail these people if they actually harmed any of these girls for their own personal thrills. Read this, it's eerie, yet educational in a way you never thought possible!

Investigative Journalism, Memoir, And Biography At Its Best
Strangled is written by LaDonna Humphrey with Alecia Lockhart. LaDonna Humphrey is a journalist, and the case of Melissa Witt has captivated LaDonna for many years now. She has dedicated her life to finding the killer of Melissa Witt and this is an update on what has been happening since her last book called The Girl I Never Knew which is about a young woman who was on her way to visit her mom at a bowling alley in 1995 when she was brutely murdered. Melissa sadly was only 19 years old when her life was taken.

We have all heard of the dark web but after reading this book I had no idea of the shocking facts of which LaDonna, and Alecia write about and of the repulsive fetishes lies, and deceit that hide in the darkness. The repercussions to both women after visiting these many websites is shocking from the sick perverted individuals that spend time fantasizing rape, bondage, torture, and murder on these websites and how depraved and perverted a few of them can get when they find the identity of both women and start to threaten them with how they will torture and murder them. These sick individuals have entered not only there working hours but their homes and sleep as they hack into their computers, cell phones and both have had nightmares due to what they have been threatened with on their phone calls and what they witnessed and have read on the dark web.

This book is a true crime book at its best, with investigative journalism, memoir, and biography all rolled into one in this book. LaDonna writing is clear and methodically as she lays out the facts, and her writing makes you feel like you are working the case with her.
I truly admire both women and the strength they both have, and whose belief to see justice done through the adversity of such horror is both remarkable, scary and admirably. This has made both women stronger and both vow to keep fighting to find the one link missing to the killer of Melissa Witt and to make sure one day justice will be served.

LaDonna Humphrey and Alecia Lockhart will never give up with their search for Melissa Witt killer which shows from the way both have put her heart and soul into going over what has happened when following the email in LaDonna inbox to the writing of this book.

I am sure one day through the help from social media and persistence from LaDonna and the police this case will finally be solved.

(*Aside from the afterword.
I do take issue with what has been written in the afterword - it seems in poor taste.
If a loved one of a murder victim reaches out with concerns, I think those concerns should be addressed privately.
I don't believe there was any real need to speak of them publicly at the end of this book.)

Another good book by LaDonna Humphrey* - this time with Alecia Lockhart, though this second one is very different. It really isn't about Melissa. It is about a different investigation which was touched upon in the first book, that began due to the ongoing search for justice for Melissa. In my opinion, it isn't connected to Melissa's death.

Together the authors tell of their pursuit to take down a specific part of the dark web. A pursuit I find very noble. And again, something that opens each up to very real danger and threats.

They fight for every woman.

"Some believe it is only great power that can hold evil in check, but that is not what I have found. I have found that it is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keeps the darkness at bay." - J.R.R. Tolkien

Non-fiction Struggle for Justice

Alecia Lockhart and LaDonna Humphrey have written a book about a topic most of us wouldn't want to have to read about: Sex Trafficking and the role that pornography sites featuring necrophilia feed into serial murders.

I had a hard time with the level of detail the book went into regarding the dialogues on the websites and between the victims and the harassers. However; it was abundantly clear how real it brought home the terror and fear of being stalked.

The purported purpose of the book is to find justice for one of the women who was murdered. As this is the second in the series, I hope to see that the authors have achieved their goal soon.

I wanted to get this out before now but life has been busy! I have had the honor of reading Strangled way before release. This is a must read!! LaDonna Humphrey as you know is the author of The girl I never knew who killed Melissa Witt. This is part two. In this one she is joined by another brave and courageous woman Alecia Lockhart

If you have not read The girl I never knew, you need to read it and then read Strangled! There is a community out there called the death fetish community. it is a dangeorous community and for all you know you work next to or even scarier sleep next to someone who is in this community! Alecia Lockhart story will make you think how easy it is for an unknowing especially a young person to get involved. I give this book 5 stars and they decided to release it early! it was suppose to come out on October 28th(Tomorrow) but you can get it now.

Also check out their podcast Deep Dark Secrets which goes along with this book. https://www.deepdarksecretspodcast.com/

I just finished reading “Strangled,” the second book in what seems to be headed toward a full series of books connected to the unsolved murder of Melissa Witt in Fort Smith, Arkansas. LaDonna Humphrey has taken on the Missy Witt mantle with the first book “The Girl I Never Knew,” which started out as a fil documentary but morphed into a book and has now traveled to a second offering. Mrs. Humphrey is joined in this book by co-author Alecia Lockhart.
There are no spoilers here. Melissa Witt’s killer has not been identified or prosecuted. So, I will proceed with my book review. The premise of this book is the dark web and fetish videos and necrophilia and simulated acts of murder in a direct-to-video format supposedly made to order by freaks. And, possibly connected to Melissa Witt.
The Lockhart connection goes back to 2009, when as a 22-year-old gig worker in Portland, Oregon, (not sure the term was in vogue then) applied to work for a man who made videos. He needed office work; she didn’t know his full name, or any other work history, but wanted some fixed hours. When she got there, he asked, and she agreed, to be a character in a video acting out a fetish scenario involving a dead woman and a Mickey Mouse watch.
Speed forward to 2020, and her sister mentions elements of the Melissa Witt story, which includes a missing Mickey Mouse watch. Alecia Lockhart contacts LaDonna Humphrey and ends up doing an interview with the Fort Smith Police detective over the cold case and the private citizens police administers refer to as the Dream Team – LaDonna Humphrey and retired detectives Jay C. Rider and Chris Boyd.
This then takes Humphrey and Lockhart on a deep dive into the dark web and the unsavory world categorized as “snuff fetish, rape, strangle, bagging, shooting abused.”
When they work through to the end of the book, we learn there are some tenuous connections between employer Carl Coleman and Arkansas, but ultimately the investigators discredit him as being involved either as a perpetrator or as someone who feeds the fetish that resembles the Melissa Witt death. There’s not even a full description of Carl Coleman and his unsavory works on the Internet.
But don’t be sad, the epilogue brings a new connection. LaDonna Humphrey writes of being in her office with the nonprofit Oasis of Northwest Arkansas when a woman asks to speak with her. The woman reveals she was in the parking lot of Bowling World the night that Melissa Witt was abducted. Who is she, and what did she witness? You’ll have to wait for Book No. 3.

I gave 2 stars for Melissa, her family, and the search for her truth and her justice. And while every victim whose truth is still untold and whose justice is still waiting truly deserves 5 stars, this is about the book and honestly, I am not sure it earned a single star on its own.

I am so very tired of being let down by books that hype themselves up so much that the only result is for the reader to be let down. This work is supposed to be a continuation of the journey for Melissa Witt’s justice. They claim that in part of the title. They use her face on the cover. Instead of that it is a poorly planned and poorly executed, naive field trip into supposedly the Dark Web. Unfortunately, it reads more like a rejected emo goth middle school contest entry.

If you read The Girl I Never Knew and expected this to add to that, then you got ripped off. And upon some further reading, I tend to always read the boring stuff at the end of the book….it appears that this was just a profit making marketing plan to promote their new podcast. It would seem that LaDonna and Alecia have found a way for Melissa to pay their bills. I have certainly lost what respect I had for LaDonna Humphrey upon reading her previous work.

I received an ARC and this is my honest and voluntary review.

I liked this book more than the first in what appears to be an ongoing series surrounding the unsolved murder of Melissa Witt. In this book, we add a co-writer which expanded the story. It also felt more true crime than the first book, probably because of the multiple writer thing.

Anyway this is book opens a different avenue when it comes to this case, but the thing is - and lord these authors have me nervous - y’all can’t play with fire and not get burned. BE CAREFUL AND SMART. That’s a PSA for all of the armchair detectives out there too.

The dark side of the internet that’s “uncovered” in this book is deep. While I see other reviews mention not many know about it - I disagree. I think more people know about it than you’d think, but knowing about something and participating in it are two different things. EVERYTHING is on the internet so what they found wasn’t shocking to me at all. But screen names are used for a reason and it’s a dangerous place to poke around. Again - dear armchair detectives - check yourselves and stay safe.

The book billed as second in a series on the murder of Melissa Witt fell short of being a sequel.

LaDonna and Alecia tell the tale of a possible connection to the Melissa Witt case connected by a single piece of evidence and a corner of the web not many know is out there and those that do don't know the extent of the terrors waiting and lurking.

Along their journey they discovered a new, worthy cause to battle and take down. A journey I'm sure will hold many more fears and surprises as they dig deeper.

LaDonna and Alecia don't disappoint with the story or the writing. To readers as I suggest reading this book I caution, buckle up; you're in for an unexpected journey that will leave you questioning life as you know it.

In their journey I offer one piece of advice in a simple statement. You can only fight one battle at a time.

Wow!! When you think this book can't surprise you anymore, it does!! I received this book last week during a busy time but I made time by staying up late and skipped a couple of mornings at the gym to read it. LaDonna and Alecia both do an amazing job of writing and shining a light on this dark community that needs to be exposed. I never knew about the death fetish community and just how many are involved in it. I believe with their investigative skills and determination they will help solve Melissa Witt's murder case. Be sure to read the first book, "The Girl I Never Knew" if you haven't already. It is amazing as well!

LaDonna and Alecia are two very special ladies. Not many would have the fortitude to carry on with their investigations, given what they have discovered and been exposed to. I don't think that LaDonna expected her search for Melissa's murderer would lead her down this path.

The things two-legged predators inflict on their fellow man/woman, will never cease to horrify me. Four-legged predators do so for survival, not for the thrill of the kill. It begs the question of who should really bear the title "animal".

The book overall was very interesting, informative, and frightening. In a previous job I had, I was made aware of some horrible things that happened to women and men for sexual gratification. This book taught me an entirely new horror. I want to fight this evil!

I do have a few issues with it. Melissa Witt was used in a poor form in the book. Yes, this could have happened to her, but so could a bunch of other things. The authors must be tired from picking up her name they dropped so much. We didn’t learn anything new about Missy’s case until the very end.

The book rambled on. It could’ve cut about a fourth out. I just wanted it to get to the point.

Strangled part two of Who killed Melissa Witt is absolutely frightening. The fact that these people not only exist but take pride in what they do and love to harass people with it is insane. This community is not only out there in our everyday lives but that same community is growing and could be anyone you speak to and you would most likely never know. So scary. The first book in this series meandered a little too much for me but I am super fascinated by dark web exposé work so picked up the second in the series. Parts were very interesting if not a little disjointed similar to book 1. I understand why the brave authors chose to include the graphic poetry to show the extent of the harassment they faced, but I admit I had to skim those bits. Love to see the work the authors are doing here however.

This true non-fiction book will make you mad and violently I’ll but it is so needed to uncover this horrible, violent subculture in our world. These two women are so brave! It is not a book for everyone but I couldn’t put it down. I wonder when they will publish the next book with more updates on these cases?

This book was absolutely terrifying, thinking about all of the sick people out there. Praying that LaDonna and Alecia's work will lead to justice not only for Melissa Witt, but for other victims like her, and that it will help stop more murders.

I'll write this review with the note that I did not read Book 1.

The book is of the true crime genre and formatted from the point of view of two narrators in a semi-interview / transcript method. LaDonna and Alecia discuss the connection to the Melissa Witt case connected by evidence and the inner workings of the darker side of sex and vice on the Internet.

They actively take the Witt case and transform the book into a journey to vow against so-called death porn and darker fetishes from online communities.

I wasn't affected too much by the details. Still, I would warn any reader with triggers such as death, possible necrophilia, or other sexual taboos to proceed with caution as the details LaDonna explores could be disturbing for some.

Overall, the book seems to relatively miss the Witt bullseye and proceeds to a totally different case -- one that is a huge world full of dark secrets.
