Held captive in a dangerous web by circumstances and fear, Shani-Lee watched the mystery and wonder of her childhood disintegrate leaving behind searing embers of abuse and bullying that scarred her deeply. It is evident from this profound story that she will surely accomplish her goal and provide a roadmap to victory!
Amazing story about the battle with Bulimia. It gives an insight into how the disease may impact the life of sufferers and their supporters. War with Myself describes possible causes and triggers of destructive behavior and a long-lasting, exhausting battle to recovery. In addition to a captivating story, the book contains a lot of educational material that encourages readers to take an action toward convalescence. It brings awareness, understanding and sheds light on how to overcome the obstacles in the battle with our biggest enemy - ourselves.
At only 84 pages, this book is a quick read. I think it's important to tell stories like this so those struggling know they aren't alone and that there is hope for better days ahead. Wallis shares how her battle with bulimia began, progressed and how she overcame her battle. She ends by encouraging both those in this same fight and those who love them. Eating disorders are especially difficult since those struggling can't just avoid the addiction.
Thanks to Valiance Publications and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
Quick read—balanced in perspective, but quite a bit more telling than showing and very little by way of fleshed-out scene. That's pretty common in self-published books, of course (especially when the author has no writing background), so it's a fairly neutral two stars, and on to the next book.
This auto biography is inspiring, how much the author went through, the mountains she climbed - the way she turned it all around to now help others on a similar journey - her soul shines through in such a way!
An honest, vulnerable and relatable story of the war and the victory
This book had me captured and, sadly, relating from the start. I appreciated her gruesome honesty about her struggles, and also about her journey of forgiveness towards herself and others. It gave me hope.
I found Wallis's story to be well written and filled with brave details about her family history and growing up as the oldest with a mom that was 15 when she had her. The story is heartbreaking but also very inspiring. I enjoyed the ending and how she gave examples for someone that is on a healing journey. New affirmations are always useful. I would suggest adults read this as well as those battling bulimia.
Shani-Lee Wallis's story is not only well written but it is bursting with bravery as she has battled bulimia and bullying. She writes openly about her family history, growing up and childhood. While the story is heartbreaking and raw, it's also inspiring due to the sheer bravery the author has had to show throughout her life. Everyone's healing journey is unique to them but I find huge inspiration in the stories of others.
