Other than my mysterious and possibly fatal medical condition, my life is simple. I wear my police uniform with pride, and protect my city with integrity. I make sure my dad and sister are safe and happy. And I love Sylvie. She's everything I've ever wanted in a woman. Crazy smart, adorably nerdy, beautiful, and literally the girl next door. However, four words uttered from her lips spins my world into chaos. Despite her betrayal, I still want her. In my life, in my heart, in my bed. But I’d never tell her that. My anger awakens a beast that grapples for control. I can’t give in, or nothing will ever be the same. When a secret organization concealing heinous crimes against humanity comes for us, nothing will stop me from protecting Sylvie. If they get their hands on me, though, I’ll suffer a fate far worse than death. I have no choice but to unleash the deadly Grizzly inside of me and trust Sylvie will guide me home before it's too late. This book can be enjoyed as a standalone, but it is recommended to start from the beginning of the series for an enhanced experience.
Laura Mowery has had her nose in a book since she learned her ABC’s, so it's no surprise that she pursued a career as an author. She grew up obsessed with stories, especially any that included supernatural or otherworldly elements. She also loved to get swept away on romantic adventures. Now she gets to combine the two and write about what she loves; suspense, superpowers, and steamy romance.
Laura lives in San Diego, CA with her husband, two cats and a dog. If she’s not writing, you’ll find her adventuring with her husband, eating tacos, drinking local craft beer, or curled up with a book.
This was an intriguing read full of suspense, otherworldly elements and romance. I’ve already read books 1 & 2 of the Infinitum series by this author. The first part of the story kinda ran alongside some of the incidents we read in book 2, so although you could probably read it as stand-alone it’s probably best to read in order.
I’m addicted to these characters and this book was certainly more explosive than book 1, there’s a lot more super soldier elements which I found fascinating. Romantic/military suspense is my go-to genre, so adding this superpower element was highly engaging.
John and Sylvie’s story was intense, we have a few more characters to fall in love with, but I did miss Mark, Jackson, Brando and Jordy, however saying that, I did enjoy getting to know Spec, Raven, Charlie and Clay a little more.
This is building into a highly suspenseful world and can’t wait to read what happens next.
Code Name: Grizzly Book 3 in the Infinitum Series ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 🌶🌶🌶/5 Sylvie is reeling from the loss of her parents. When she reconnects with her brother she starts to feel more like herself. Her boss sends her on a mission to watch a man named John. John immediately takes her breath away. Trying to keep John at arms length is proving to be difficult. Will Sylvie break all the rules to be with John or will she compromise the mission? You will just have to read to find out! This is a forbidden romance with a twist that I just could not get enough of!
This is the 3rd book in the Infinitum series. While John & Sylvie’s relationship is completely covered here - due to other plots & worldbuilding I think this book is best enjoyed after books 1 & 2. Large parts of this book are also concurrent to events in Timberwolf & Sparrow. There’s also a prequel novella, John, that offers some insight into events that shaped him into who is is at the start of Code Name: Grizzly.
Mowery offers a great mix of sci-fi/paranormal, suspense, action, and romance. The first half is heavily focused on John & Sylvie’s relationship and how Sylvie’s secrets impact that. Both John and Sylvie have been through so much and I was in tears at several points.
There’s also lots of mystery and suspense as the team tries to stay one step ahead of Infinitum, rescue captives, and prevent more abductions. Lots of heart wrenching loss.
There’s a lovely HFN for John & Sylvie - but things with Infinitum definitely aren’t over. A big surprise has a huge impact on everyone and I can’t wait for Garrett’s book to see how that plays out.
I really loved this story, I’ve been looking forward to reading Johns story since book 1 and it definitely didn’t disappoint! I loved his gruff exterior but gooey centre, that is one of my all time favourite tropes - the alpharoll - and the author did a great job of dipping into his possessive dark side but mixing in with his gentlemanly side too.
Their relationship progresses naturally and had me really rooting for them from the very beginning! The ongoing story thread throughout the series just keeps shifting up gears, building that tension and keeps you guessing and wanting more more more!
I'm definitely digging this series overall, despite the dark themes in this book. Code Name Grizzly is the third in an ongoing series, and while you don't have to read the previous 2 books to enjoy this one, I would recommend it. The general premise of the series is that there is an evil secret organisation trying to create super soldiers but whose experiments have substantial and long term consequences for their victims.
What I liked:
- Sylvie was awesome, on so many levels. Clever, loyal and fought hard for John in many ways across the novel. I'd be so proud to be her friend.
- While some of the story did recap the previous novel from a different perspective, I liked how this book propels the series plot line into a whole new stratosphere.
- The sibling relationship between John and Liv. It's heartening to see books where siblings are tight, I adore my siblings.
What I didn't like:
- John was a stubborn jerk for longer than I though reasonable. I understand hanging onto anger given the circumstances, but he did cross into temper tantrum territory for me.
- The continued loss of life in our secondary characters. Stop making me love and respect them only to kill them!
Overall I would absolutely recommend the series. I look forward to seeing what comes next foe the characters.
I can't even begin to tell you how fracking excited I was for this book to come out. I read the prequel John and was GUTTED, but Grizzly healed all of those wounds.
John is easily my favorite character. He's the big brother, the protector, not only that, the guy is SPICY. But more on that later.
We originally meet John and Sylvie in Timberwolf and Sparrow (seriously, go read those now.) I originally thought Sylvie was this peppy, intelligent, and bubbly personality--and don't get me wrong, she is all of those things--however, her back story is just as excruciating as John's.
This is a friends-to-enemies-to-lovers book and Laura delivered. I was so obsessed with the angst, the pain, the bickering!
The spice was hot. John isn't just a good ol' boy. The guy knows how to treat a woman!
We get to learn more about Infinitum in this book and what they're up to. Grizzly kept me on my toes and broke my heart and put me back together again.
AND THAT ENDING, LAURA--WTF!?
Five stars! You will not regret reading this book! I DO recommend reading John's Prequel (you get it free when you sign up for her newsletter!). It will give you a better understanding of John and his...condition.
Code Name Grizzly is book number three in the Infinitum series by Laura Mowery. John and Sylvie’s story is darker and delves more into the military/super soldier sci-fi theme than the first two books in the series. Considering their respective pasts, you can’t help but root for this couple as they navigate the complexities of their relationship. While some mysteries are explained, others are introduced and, in the end, the sneaky Ms. Mowery drops a plot twist that has me needing the next book yesterday!
I received a complimentary ARC from the author, and this is my unbiased review.
Wow, this book was phenomenal! I was waiting to see what would happen between Sylvia and Hohn since they were introduced in the first book and I was not disappointed. I think this is my favorite out of the series so far. Sylvia is such a bad a*s character, scientist, warrior, and lover. John is such a cinnamon roll softie wrapped up in a rough exterior. Their story had me hooked.
I am so hooked on this series - I am reading any time I have a spare minute. This series has all the action, suspense, love, and feelings - to keep you turning the pages. But these books are written about a group, a team, a family. Each book highlights a couple , but you have the rest of the team, and the ongoing story
Add it to your tbr!! At first i wasn’t so sure about this story but let me tell you when it hit me like a freight train i was sucked in wanting more of this slow burn love. go pick it up on kindle unlimited!
