Alice Granger is no ordinary survivor. She has a tale to tell, a story of revenge.
Alice feels driven to protect the innocent from dangerous men. Men like her father. Men who hurt children. Predators who prey on the innocent. And there’s nothing Alice won’t do to make them pay.
Alice wants to make them suffer as their victims did. But the police are one step behind. And as the net closes, Alice’s life spirals out of control, the lines between good and evil becoming ever more blurred as she attempts to escape capture.
When the hunted becomes the hunter, is anyone innocent?
John Nicholl is a Welsh author renowned for his gripping psychological thrillers and crime novels. Born and raised in West Wales, Nicholl draws upon his experiences as a former police officer, child protection social worker, and lecturer to craft compelling narratives that delve into the darkest corners of human nature. His work often explores themes of justice, psychological manipulation, and the resilience of the human spirit.
Nicholl's transition to writing began after leaving a career in law enforcement and social services, where he witnessed the harsh realities of crime and its impact on victims. These experiences lend authenticity and depth to his stories, which are known for their vivid characters, intricate plots, and emotionally charged storytelling.
He debuted with the bestselling novel The Doctor, a chilling psychological thriller that introduced readers to his distinctive style. This was followed by a string of successful novels, including The Wife and The Cop. Nicholl’s books have resonated with readers worldwide, earning him critical acclaim and a dedicated fan base.
In addition to his novels, Nicholl is an advocate for raising awareness about abuse and mental health issues, using his platform to address societal challenges. When not writing, he enjoys the tranquil surroundings of West Wales, where he continues to draw inspiration for his work.
I’ve read every one of this authors books, it’s true to say I’ve had many that I loved and raved about to one I liked, this is one I’ll rave about! I’m used to this authors devious mind aren’t I? No, he continues to surprise his readers.
Warped minds. A purveyor, a crusader, a force for good.
Can monsters be vulnerable?
John Nicholl never ceases to shock me. His writing has got stronger and more adventurous pushing boundaries along themes that he knows.
The author helps you get into the mind of the “baddie” and these “baddies” have plausible sorrowful excuses for what they do, thus justifying they are doing the deed for “ good of society, for the world”. All criminals have they’re own moral codes.
It was written like the perpetrator was talking to you, the perv writing in his diary.
It’s so unnerving as the perv was speaking to me telling me how he needs to take a breather, that he’s getting tired. He needs a rest.
It’s captivatingly clever! So creepy.
There’s a bit of blood and gore but all part of the importance of the story.. it was horrid, it definitely had the impact that the author wanted I think.
Is this the best of his books yet?
I think there’s always something about your first born yes? So I’ll always remember his first book, this is level with that in my responses to it.
Highly recommended to all you thriller readers out there.
This is another addictive psychological thriller from ex police officer now author John Nicholl. I have read all of this authors work and all of them have been addictive page turners. This is no different although a little too gruesome for my personal taste.
Alice Granger is a survivor but is now focused on revenge. Her goal is to protect the innocent by searching out dangerous men and seeking revenge by putting them through the kind of torture they have inflicted on others. The problem is that Alice is now losing control and the difference between good and bad is not so plain to see.
There was plenty I enjoyed in this book and it is a page turner but I prefer more intrigue than gore. 3.5 stars for me.
KILLING EVIL by John Nicholl, is a dark psychological thriller, a serial killer thriller that will chill you to the bone. I would have to say that after reading all his novels, which include The Dr. David Galbraith series, The DI Gravel Series and his standalone psychological thrillers… this novel in my opinion is his best! I was so fortunate to receive an ARC of Killing Evil from the author. He has written books, each dealing with different issues, drawing on his experience as a police officer and child protection social worker. This novel deals with the struggle of justice and victory over evil, a story of revenge and the role of the vigilante. This novel reminded me of vigilante Paul Kersey in the Death Wish films played by actor Charles Bronson.
The opening of this novel is raw and grips the reader from the start.
“I’m a keeper of secrets: dark secrets, filthy secrets, secrets that eat away at my peace of mind like a wild creature feeding on flesh.”
And so, the story begins…and the truth is told. The reader must judge her guilt.
Back in time to childhood memories, Alice Granger came from an abusive family. Her father, a preacher was total “evil.” He was a predator and his daughter was his prey. She was conditioned to believe him. Tell no one…or else…. The abuse… the violent beatings…repeat.
Alice keeps a diary where she outlines her struggle for justice and victory over evil.
The story then jumps forward in time to when Alice was thirteen. At that age she realized her three-year-old baby sister, Sarah was in danger. Alice tries to talk to her mother about the abuse, but her mother refused to listen. Alice knew if her sister was to be safe, her father had to die.
She needed a plan, but one where she could get away.
Years later, Alice secured a job as an admin officer with the local probation services…and now saw there were many other monsters out there.
It was here that she pursued the obsession of vigilante, by creating false profiles of young girls/boys to search and lure in perverts.
But the police are one step behind…and closing in on the serial killer.
Would Alice be caught in their net? Alice Granger was a survivor.
Killing Evil was such a thought-provoking novel. I loved it! It is so easy to judge other people until you have lived in their shoes.
Many thanks to the author, Bloodhound Books and the John Nicholls Author Reviewers Group (FB) for my digital copy. Highly recommended!
Alice Granger is no ordinary survivor. she has a tale to tell, a story of revenge. Alice feels driven to protect the innocent from dangerous men. Men like her father. Men who hurt children. And as the net closes, Alice's life spirals out of control.
The story is told from Alice's point of view, and she tells it from childhood through to adulthood. She had been abused by her father as a child. So, Alice wants to protect others from what she had been through. She decides to dish out her own punishment. But the police are just a step behind her. This is a gripping and intense read. The pace for this book has been perfectly set. Not an easy book to read, but I loved it. I couldn't help but feel soe sympathy for Alice. This is another well written page turner.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #BoldwoodBooks and the author #JohnNicholl for my ARC of #TheVictim in exchange for an honest review.
First and foremost, a large thank you to John Nicholl for providing me with a copy of this novel, which allows me to provide you with an unbiased review.
I always find myself quite excited when I learn that John Nicholl has published another book. His style and choice of topics never ceases to have me clear my schedule so that I can devour his publications in short order, as they are filled with so many interesting characters and plots. In this piece, the reader meets Alice Granger, a young woman who has been saddled with horrible abuse as a child. She takes it upon herself to rise up and handle things in her own way, no matter the consequences. This vigilante behaviour follows her into adulthood, where she takes a position in a probation office. There, she is privy to the records of many who have made abuse a part of their daily lives. Alice decides to exact her own form of justice, hoping that it will create a form of justice, no matter what society might feel! Nicholl captivates the reader with ease and has found new ways to keep his fans enthralled.
Alice Granger was a victim of severe abuse, as far back as she can remember. Her father preyed on her in numerous ways, leaving physical and emotional scars that would not heal. Vowing to remove herself from being the helpless one, she took matters into her own hands and killed her father, while making it look like a freak accident.
This sense of ‘justice served’ follows Alice into adulthood, where she takes up a career within the probation office. While there, Alice sees many other men who feel the need to abuse children in sundry ways. Feeling a sense of responsibility, Alice lures them into traps and disposes of them, murdering a handful in short order. She’s careful to keep suspicion off her by trying to send the police in many directions, always one step ahead.
While the news is full of these stories, Alice keeps her cool, even as an office supervisor becomes more concerned with the number of their parolees who were being killed. When a Welsh detective starts poking around, Alice knows she will have to be especially careful and takes additional steps to cover her tracks, all the while trying to subdue the voice of her father from echoing inside her head. One false move could end this vigilante campaign and Alice has no intention of letting others suffer while she is caught for something seemingly justifiable. A chilling tale and one many of Nicholl’s fans will find right up their alley.
Each book I read by John Nicholl, I am taken back to my time working within child protective services (as I am sure he is as well, from his years on the job). The details that emerge and the utter horror of cases that are woven into the narrative make these books highly impactful. The sense of vigilante justice, while surely not condoned by many, almost has a place after reading this piece, causing the reader to debate whether Alice Granger is a hero or a cold-blooded killer. The choice is there for all to make!
Alice Granger proves to be a calculating woman in all she does. Throughout the piece, which is written in the form of numerous journal entries for the reader to enjoy, Alice shows her methodical nature and how her life has been a series of horrors that must be rectified. Alice finds little remorse in what she does, feeling that there is not only a need, but a justification for her actions. Readers will see deep inside her psyche as they get deeper into the story, one that will leave some on the fence as to what ought to be done.
Nicholl has a unique way of writing standalone novels that use some of his core characters, even in passing. The handful of individuals who make an appearance in this story serve the purpose to shape the narrative and advance the Alice Granger storyline. Using one of his key series protagonists, DI Laura Kesey, was brilliant and adds a layer of connectivity to the overall collections of novels, while allowing others to take the spotlight without issue. All those who grace the pages of this book have a purpose and Nicholl is careful to place them where it will serve them best.
I loved this story, as I have with many of the others that John Nicholl has written. There is a sense of both depravity and justice in the piece, as though the horrors of child abuse can be counterbalanced with the retribution that is made in the name of the powerless child. The narrative is strong and utilises the first-person journal-like approach to convey the inner thoughts of the protagonist as she tries to suss out what needs doing to bring balance to a jaded world. Short chapters keep the reader propelling forward and can assure a late night binge just to get to the ultimate solution, which Nicholl does so well. Social commentary is woven into the writing, though Nicholl does not try to inculcate the reader, even with all he has seen and the opinions he has surely developed. This impactful book may leave some feeling a tad uncomfortable, but the end result seems to make sense, at least for those with an open mind to how justice might work best and an affinity for the safety of children.
Kudos, Mr. Nicholl, for another impactful novel. I cannot say enough about it and I look forward to seeing what’s next!
This is a uniquely written book. Told exclusively by Alice, she's actually talking to you as she writes in her journal.
Alice had a bad childhood .. her father was abusive and her mother couldn't find it in herself to protect her children. She's grown up swearing that she will hunt the predators that prey on innocent children.
She wants them to pay for their crimes ... she wants them to suffer .. she wants them to die.
First one, then the other, predators are disappearing. The police has no clue and Alice is very smart. She studies her victims, she learns what they are looking for.
But she's starting to spiral out of control, and she's losing sight of what's good and what's evil.
I have read several of this author's books .... they just get better and better. I was riveted to these pages, read the entire thing in one day. This is well -written, suspense from start to finish. The characters are solidly drawn, especially Alice. She'll be in my head for quite a while.
Many thanks to the author / Bloodhound Books for the digital copy of this most compelling crime fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
Read and reviewed via NetGalley for John Nicholl and Boldwood Books.
Publication date 13th January 2023
This is the first book I have read by this author. It most definitely won't be the last!!
I was originally drawn to this book by its unique eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Boldwood books. I have yet to read a book published by Boldwood that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).
This novel consists of 43 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
This book is based in Wales 🏴, UK 🇬🇧. The bonus for me of books that are partly or fully based in the UK is that I live in the UK and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book which makes it easier to picture. The fact that I live in Wales and only live a few miles from the authour is amazing as I'm hoping to recognise a few local places.
This book is written in first person perspective and the main protagonist is Alice Granger. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them. If there are several protagonists you also get to see more of what is going on.
'The Victim' discusses some topics that may trigger some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book John discusses/includes strong language, graphic violence and child abuse.
OMG!!!! John Nicholl where have you been all my life!!!! What a read!! Just Wow!!! This is one of the best psychological thrillers I have read in a long time, I'm fact that I have ever read!!!
The book is written perfectly and with such vivid descriptions it really feels that Alice is sitting next to you telling you what is happening while she is doing it. I absolutely LOVED that Alice is talking directly to me as a reader. It really immense the reader into the storyline. This is very hard to achieve correctly but John absolutely smashed it!!!
The storyline is absolutely addictive and gripping. I seriously WOULD NOT even start this book unless you have cleared your schedule because you will not be able to put it down!!! I absolutely blew through it in one sitting and it genuinely was unputdownable!!! A true page turner absolutely rammed with suspense, tension, gore, murder/executions and everything you want when you read a psychological thriller. This would be absolutely amazing if turned into a movie, if done right of course!!! Not only is this a gripping and addictive storyline but it is immensely thought provoking. It really made me think and question that if I could get away with it would I do the same? Wrong and crime is not always black and white. Without revealing too much of the storyline it is hard to say what I want without exposing the story too much and spoiling it for other readers. Some readers will agree with what she does, some wouldn't. I absolutely agree with the fact that the justice system we have is a joke!! However, towards the end of the book I do think that Alice lost her way and possibly her mind.
I really cannot compliment and recommend this book more. It is a heart racing, nail biting, suspense packed psychological thriller that will stay with you for one hell of a long time.
Congratulations John an absolutely epic novel and welcome to my favourite authour list!!! Looking forward to reading your next page turner!!!
Overall a unputdownable, heart racing, nail biting and addictive psychological thriller
Genres covered in this novel include Thriller, Suspense, Psychological Thriller, Mystery and Crime Thriller amongst others.
I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as Charlie Gallagher, Mark Edwards and anyone who loves gore, good psychological thrillers and ANYONE looking for a good read!!
226 pages.
This book is just £1.99 to purchase on kindle or free on kindle unlimited via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

🎯MY REVIEW🎯 Killing Evil is dark chilling psychological thriller that had me rooting for the killer . I was glued to the pages from the very start. Not only was the story told in a very unique way but the story line itself is unique. John is a masterful storyteller than can write about some horrifying subjects . His writing is excellent and he keeps you wanting more and more. He describes Alice in such a way that you truly get to know her . Through the whole book i felt like i was sitting across from Alice as she told me the story. The ending blew me away ! I never saw that coming and it left me with my mouth hanging open. I am a avid psychological thriller reader and I can honestly say John has set the bar incredibly high for the others . He is always my go to author whenever i get into my reading slumps. This was a great, page-turning, intriguing book that i highly recommend.

My favorite quote from killing Evil : Be careful who you trust. Monsters come in many forms. #JohnNicholl #KillingEvil #BloodhoundBooks #bookwormlife #bookreviewblogger #joycestewartbookreviews
I have read all of this authors previous books so I was really excited to read his latest novel. Well I wasn’t disappointed as I literally inhaled this in one enjoyable afternoon.
Alice Granger has had an abusive childhood with her father. When she gets older she feels it’s her mission to get get rid of other predators.
This is a dark and twisted story told through to the main characters voice direct to us. I’m already looking forward to reading more from this author. I highly recommend you read this authors stories.
Killing Evil is a stand-alone psychological suspense thriller set in Wales by an author who is new to me, although I have had a couple of his series books on my (massive) TBR for a while. I’d held off trying them as I thought they might be too dark, but then this came up in the Bloodhound ARC group with multiple 5 star reviews, so I couldn’t resist, as I do have a weakness for female vigilantes. I enjoyed this, apart from the ending - it does get pretty dark and gory, but there is plenty of bleak black humour which evened things out.
Alice Granger is on a one-woman mission to rid the world of paedophiles. Telling her story in diary form, she recalls a childhood of terrible physical, psychological and sexual abuse by her father, a respected vicar. Now working for the probation service, she identifies suitable victims and lures them to her isolated cottage, where she puts them on trial and inflicts what she sees as justified punishment. Aggrieved at having to hide her “work” from the authorities, Alice starts taking more risks, and suddenly the police are looking for a serial killer - just how far will she go to hide her secret?
This was well written and cleverly structured as we follow Alice’s account in real time. I was relieved that she doesn’t describe the abuse by her monster of a father in detail - there’s enough to convey what occurred without having to read about it. In the beginning she has our full sympathy, and her actions seem almost justified, but as her mind begins to unravel and she starts to revel in her kills rather too much, the intriguing question arises - and is answered - when does a vigilante become a murderer?
I was slightly disappointed by the resolution - I’m avoiding spoilers so can’t explain why - I can see why the author chose to end it this way but it doesn’t mean I have to agree with it. I will definitely be reading more of his work though. Thanks to Bloodhound for the ARC. I am posting this honest review voluntarily. Killing Evil is available in paperback now and the ebook is published on July 28th.
This is a great read. We get to know Alice, as she now calls herself, throughout the book and we learn at the beginning of the book what caused her to act the way she does. Her father abused her from a very young age and this leads Alice to want justice for the thousands of other children that are victims of abuse. Alice gets herself a job which gives her access to the data she needs and she sets out to put things right. In her mind the killing isn’t wrong, and she sees it as a good thing as she’s ridding the world of evil men. You can tell Alice becomes more unstable later in the book but I wasn’t sure how it would end for her. This is an insightful look into the mind of someone who is certain they are doing good, but when it comes down to it, she is committing murder. Another great read from John Nicholl. Thanks to Bloodhound Books and the author for sending me a copy to read and review.
Alice is a victim abused at the hands of someone she trusts. The author knows how to engage you to keep reading with a frightening intensity into the slaughterhouse.
As I read on, it's tough not to feel sorry for Alice, but mentally two wrongs don't make it right. I understood her rage with dangerous men who hunt, lurking online to find innocent minors.
The internet is a hunting ground to meet the wrong people. There's the good, bad, and ugly. This story is a reality of life.
A serial killer is on the loose, and nothing will stand in her way. In Alice's mind, she believes the crimes she committed are customary to take matters into her own hands.
Alice needed help long before she started to be an executioner, a butcher in her own right, hearing her father's voice when things did not go her way, is sad. Did the psychologist understand why she murdered all those men?
At some point, she began to enjoy the killing. Her dad created a killer, a monster out of control even though it wasn't her fault what happens to the poor girl.
I highly recommend buying a copy and any other of the author's books. I was so intrigued. I'm a number one fan. A five-star book
Alice goes after those who are like her father...child predators. She lands a job with the police department in a role where she can get inside information to go after these terrible people. But Alice pushes the limits, can she keep from going to jail for what she herself does? I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
This story follows Alice, from her childhood and being abused by her religious father, until adulthood. Alice works for the probation service but she also has a sideline in vigilante justice. After her abusive childhood she feels its her job to rid the streets of predators of children. As the story goes on Alice starts to lose her grip on reality and paranoia sets in. It's quite a gripping story and you are rooting for Alice, hoping to some extent she doesn't get caught. As she starts to lose her grip you fear for her. I would imagine, with John's history of working these sorts of cases for most of his career the emotions, reactions, alcohol abuse and anger are about as genuine as you could find in fiction. John doesn't at any point stray into sensationalising the story for fictional purposes, and you have to decide if you feel Alice was justified and the decisions made were correct. Another brilliant, gripping, heart rending read that makes you question your own morals.
4.5⭐️ Gore score 3/5 Advertised as a dark psychological thriller by a new to me author. Just my kind of book. Does it live up to its billing? OMG it certainly does, not one for the faint hearted!
We are introduced to Alice who is the first person narrator communicating directly with the reader sharing her terrible secret of childhood sexual abuse.
The use of the first person is a great way for the reader to be able to easily and fully engage with Alice, especially as the writing style is chatty and easy going.
On leaving college and entering the workplace full time Alice discovers that she is not the only one to have suffered and decides to take action, becoming a vigilante. Initially I was feeling sorry for Alice and understanding her actions, but it wasn’t long before she over stepped my moral boundaries and I had to acknowledge that she was either mad or bad.
Thankfully the descriptions of the graphic details are reined in for the most part. Although there is one graphic section.
I didn’t expect laugh out loud moments.
A favourite quote ‘I’d hit the information jackpot’

Killing evil by John Nicholl. I really enjoyed this book. Alice was different. I. Not sure how I felt about her but I did like Maisey. Very surprised by some of the book. Different. 5*.
I am a huge fan of this author, I've read and loved all of his books and must say this is his best!!!! I was totally engrossed from the first page and couldn't put it down. Alice was abused for many years by her father and as she gets older she wants people like her father to pay for what they do to their innocent victims. This is a dark, harrowing and brilliantly written story. Huge 5 stars.
Alice was abused by her father from an early age. When she kills her father and gets away with it, she decides that her life path is to get justice for abuse victims by killing their abusers.
This is a dark and harrowing read but it is a story that needs telling, we live in a warped world. This makes you stop and think about the impact that abuse has on those affected by it, especially how they are affected psychologically and struggle to get by. An emotional story that will play on your mind for some time.
Well what a read that was. Full of adjectives; sad, traumatic, evil, psychopathic, I could go on and on. This book engendered a gamut of emotions. How can you feel sorrow for someone who takes pleasure out of torturing another human being? But I did.
Briefly, Alice is damaged. Damaged by a father who abused her from the age of four. Damaged by a mother who didn’t protect her daughter. Damaged by a community that didn’t believe her. But then her father turns his eye to her young sister and Alice is pushed over the edge… When she finally leaves home it is with one mission in life; to ensure that men like her father pay, they must suffer in the way their victims did. How long can she evade the police?
Written from the POV of Alice this is quite a harrowing read. Be aware that some of the scenes are very descriptive. The author has managed to put himself into the mind of Alice, a child abused and hurt who becomes a woman with no emotion other than hate and mistrust, a woman who enjoys torturing and killing her victims. This really is a great read and a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me.
Alice Granger has a dark story to tell ...As a small child she was subjected to the most horrific abuse , by a well respected member of the community, a man of the cloth ...her own father ..a monster ...When Alice tried to tell her mother , a weak willed and indifferent woman, she is hushed each time ..But when Alice turns thirteen and her father's eyes wander in the direction of her little sister ..there comes a tipping point ..Later, whilst other young women dream of making plans for the future , holidays and settling down , Alice has only one thread , one vision in shades of grey and black ...As Alice's life and thinking spirals towards the edge ...No one could foresee what will happen next ...All the stars ..John Nicholl's most Chilling and Darkest storytelling ...Ice Cold ...Chilling and Brilliant ...
I love this authors work and could not wait to get stuck into this. I have to say that this is his best so far and all his others are superbly written so it tells you just how good it is. Told from the journal written by the serial killer, who will chill you to the bone, I find myself having a great deal of sympathy for her after suffering abuse by her father throughout her childhood. I loved the authors subtle warnings that the next chapters were going to be gruesome so you knew what to expect.I hope that there is going to be a follow on for this book as I think there is much more to this story left to tell. A whopping 5* from me.
This is a brilliantly insightful read and completely gripping. The book just continued to develop and you became completely invested in Alice and her decline.
I really dont want to say anything more for plot spoilers.
I was given an advance copy by Bloodhound books but the review is entirely my own.
A book you may not want to put down! Written in the first person, this tells the story of Alice (not her real name as she tells us), her life and her becoming a “hunter rather than the hunted”. As a child she was abused by her father and saw the looks he was giving her younger sister- who was now at the age when Alice first had those gruesome night visits. Alice plots her fathers death but then learns about post mortems in suspicious deaths and so her plot is foiled. When an unforeseen opportunity presents itself she takes the chance. Years later having graduated with a course in computer sciences she is working for the probation service and other chances present themselves for her to rid the streets of the “monsters”. I have an issue with John’s books- albeit a good one. I cant stop turning the pages and a chapter turns into 10 and time and real life disappear- so easy is it to be immersed in the book. Brilliantly written ( as ever) and although not for the sensitive as there are occasional scenes of murder etc, this is a fantastic plot and well narrated- all from the female protagonist. A clever, well thought out plot and one to leave you perhaps with a wry smile.
Every time I leave a review for John, I let you know that he is one of my favourite authors. I have followed John from his very first book - he has an amazing body of work, but this book WOW! It blew me away and I declare it his best yet (and that’s quite a statement!).
As always, John has created a very strong main character, I loved Alice - well-developed, and, I believe well intentioned, (in the wrong way!). Alice treats us to some very dark moments, which are well written, and are not just included as a way of shocking the reader.
I also actually liked Maisie in an odd kind of ‘she’s growing on me’ way - she was eager to make friends with Alice, who saw nothing but ulterior motives in this gesture, something which speaks volumes about Alice and her view of people in general.
It was good to see Laura back, but it was also good not to have her as the main character.
As I have said, this book blew me away, it’s a brilliant idea for a novel and is very well executed
This book has got to be one of my favourites by John Nicholl. So intense! Alice knows no bounds, a very disturbed young woman because of an abusive father and a mother that turned a blind eye. A wonderfully created character that I connected with immediately....not that I wanted to be her best friend, eek! She is clever, cunning, calm on the outside but fuelled with anger on the inside, always one step ahead of being caught on her mission to protect the innocent and kill the evil. But her obsession is at bursting point and she is becoming confused, how long can she carry on before she completely snaps? A brilliantly crafted nail biting twisty tale. Revenge and justice are sweet, they go hand in hand, doesn't make it right though....does it? A gripping read that I flew threw. A good solid five stars from me.
The events in our lives shape us and Alice Granger has had some tough childhood experiences that shaped her into who she has become as an adult. Mr. Nicholl has created a story that throws your mind into overdrive and questions whether revenge can ever be justified. This isn't a "whodunnit" or even "Howdunit" but instead a fast paced tale with darkness in each corner and the Alice Granger trying to be the light for humanity but is she a part of the darkness? I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
This is the best one I’ve read so far from John Nicholls. His wonderful writing style really draws you in and makes the main character believable. It is written in the first person and from the woman’s point of view -a skill in itself. The setting is very tense as the woman is writing a diary telling of her abuse and her hunt for other abusers. I wasn’t sure how it would end and I wasn’t let down. I was absorbed by the main character and whilst it wasn’t an easy read when she described what she had done, it was still a novel that was unputdownable!
One of my favourite authors, I have read all his books and what a great twisty read this was.
I loved every page and all the characters were well developed and the storyline was brilliantly addictive. I loved every page from the beginning to the end, it was a well written book, a very worthy five stars from me.
