The history of our species is freaking depressing, man. 😕

An entertaining read with a basic, but fairly comprehensive coverage of human history. The maps are excellent, and I found only a few quibbles or errors. (How NASA was expanded to "North American Space Agency" is a mystery to me.) But overall, the information is presented in a visually interesting way with enough text to provide context to the many wonderful maps that help one engage in the many events in human history. The selection of events and locations throughout history seems judicious to me, and the chronological organization works well.

OMG, what a beautiful book. If you love history, and maps, then this is the last book you ever need buy. It covers the sweep of human civilization from pre-history to the modern era, in gorgeous maps and photographs, charts and graphs. We are all visual learners, and you will never stop learning from this stunning book. Enjoy!

This book a summary of major events in human history, along with maps showing what was going on at different places and different times. It's a good overview, but of course, there is almost no analysis as to why these events were happening, and when some explanations are offered, they are for the most part oversimplified. The accumulation of facts is rather dry. Still, worth browsing through.
