But Did You Die? #5

Klutz: Phoenix Unleashed

Rate this book
Surprise! I died... again.
Except this time, I'm dead-dead.
I'm told this is the type of death that not even a phoenix can come back from...
It's a good thing I suck at following the rules.

Klutz: Phoenix Unleashed is a steamy, action-packed, fast-paced read. Follow our girl Ryls into death, where she continues to create chaos. Things get even more messy when she uses her power, and the power of the Queen of the Phoenix afterlife, to get back to Earth. No matter what goes wrong, there is nothing in heaven or hell that will stop Ryls from getting back to her mates.
This is the final book in the But Did You Die series and includes a HEA ending—I pinky promise!

Bit of an anticlimax

I'm not really sure what the point was of this book, except maybe to create a bridge to a spin off series. Which I'm happy about, don't get me wrong, but as an ending point to Rylls' story, it was a damp squib. A too-short, not-enough-steam, barely-any-tension, damp squib.

*Edited to add* The breathtaking cheek of the author to offer extra chapters of the book IF YOU SIGN UP FOR A NEWSLETTER??!! W. T. A. F??!! I paid money for this book! I paid for a full book! Not one with chapters chopped off the end and then held to freaking ransom! And I've recommended the series all over the place for months. What a complete pisstake 😤

Why even have a 5th book!?
It had a short conclusion at the start of this novella and then the rest was an introduction to new characters and the start of a storyline for a spin-off series.
Extremely anticlimactic!

I am absolutely disappointed in the last two books of this series. Not only have I wasted my money on this book (read in KU if you have it before buying) the story was left unfinished in order for you to buy the spin off books to find out what was happening. Also, you have to sign up for her news letter in order to read the final ending as she has chopped off chapters. Fuming as I have paid money for a full book. Not some half arsed ending that demands you sign up to a newsletter letter you don't want in order to get the full version. Absolute piss take.

This book, she is in her shifter version of the afterlife. Its about getting her put and finding her mates, the whole thing is ridiculous, the author has thrown in an extra bad guy and presumably the spin off books will be about that, and when she comes to earth the Queen of the afterlife has come with her so she'll be getting her own set of mates (this is all assumptions). I think because the story finished with her being pregnant, the author hopes readers will buy the spin-offs to find out what happens with her baby, but the story ends so abruptly that it feels half finished. I kinda want my money back. Not gunna lie.

The main female character over the past two books has just annoyed me. Her guys didn't get the reading time they deserve, and I'm not sure what the point is to her human mate? Just to add more sex scenes? Dunno but it feels like the author just threw him in and now doesn't know where he fits. He's just like a third wheel. And because he was added so late in the series, the reader doesn't know him at all. The Queen should have just dissolved the bond and be done with it.

Won't be wasting my time or money on another book. Huge disappointment, the book as a whole felt rushed, I read the whole book in roughly 2 hours, honestly don't understand all the high ratings.

Read on KU, and if you like it, buy it. It was a waste of my money and time that I won't ever get back, but each to their own. It does have high reviews, so it looks like I'm one of the only people to think this about this book.

First off I enjoyed this book, like the previous ones plenty of fun ways to die...
But it really didn't feel like a final book, if anything it felt like a bridge, an in-between part of a story. I appreciate it can be a set up to a spin off series but than why leave things so open for Ryls and not just set up a start for new characters.
I also wished more of Ryls mates made an appearance rather than being skimmed over, it really wasn't quite enough!
So to sum it up for me; an enjoyable read but not the big final bang I was waiting for.

Just.....NO

I have been waiting with bated breath for this last book in the series for MONTHS. I even sat all weekend refreshing KU so I could download it. I think Sedona tortured us unnecessarily because this is so short and really no story or plot....this could have wrapped up book 4 and put us all out our misery.
I have been such a bit fan of this series but this book just hurt.

Above me, soldiers screamed and shouted. Somewhere overhead, a dragon bellowed in fury. My mates had arrived.

I truly enjoyed this series! I could read about Amaryllis and her mates for many more books. However, this book wrapped everything up nicely. I would have liked getting to know her final mate a little more but I do like him. I wish it wasn't over.

Imp was one of my favorite "characters" of this! 🔥

Review is for the whole series. I enjoyed these books for what they are, just quick fun reads. I’ve been reading a lot of RH the past year and I think I’ve realized that once we get more then like 4 guys I start to lose interest. There is just no way to properly get to know all the characters and people get lost in the shuffle for me. It becomes hard to follow but that is just a me problem. Spin off series says the main h will only have 3 mates so I will definitely give that one a read since I did really enjoy this authors sense of humour and writing.

As with the rest, this seemed like it was dragged out. The ending is abrupt, but then there are bonus chapters to continue the story? Why not just finish the book with the extra chapters?

What a great series this has been and I gotta say it’s ends a whole lot different than it starts. It’s not until an unfortunate plane crash that Ryls life goes from insane to off the charts. While these last couple books felt really short I loved how the story played out. This was a pretty badass conclusion too and it’s all because Ryls finally fully accepted being so awesome, it’s literally not vanity when it’s true lol. There were some mate add ons throughout the series and it does kind of feel like some of them didn’t get their equal share of page time. Unlike me, Ryls can get to know them from now until forever so a little time courting can be fun. Plus it appears a newer character will likely be getting an offshoot series and I’m already dreading the wait for that whole series to finish! Ryls has been such a hilarious character I’m sad seeing her go. Not only were her constant deaths hilarious, I loved seeing her powers develop over time and all the crazy things she could do. Great series and by the end you kinda forget how horrible the guys from book 1 are 😋

Honestly this book felt unnecessary and like the author was dragging out the series for no real reason. The only assumption I have is that this story is prepping us for another series. I read books 1 and 2, but then skipped ahead because honestly the writing was so bad that it just felt like a waste. All I wanted was the freak out moment when she died and didn't come back... but we never see that. It skips ahead weeks in advance and so we never see their reactions to her death.

Also, I have to say because it bothered the hell out of me... I hated a lot of the character's names. Wasn't a big fan of the FMC's name, but it's not the worst name in the series. I can't read Xerxes' name without thinking of that guy from 300. That's all I pictured every time I read his name. I wasn't a big fan of Willard either. Just reminded me of that creepy movie called Willard staring Crispin Glover. Creepy rat man! I also was super underwhelmed that her gryphon mate was named Trevor. Like... Trevor? He couldn't have had a more unique or interesting name?

Anyway, this series was a big fat letdown. Interesting story concept ruined by poor writing, poor pacing, poor plotting, and a handful of bad character names. Also, I guess it shouldn't be a surprise, but the FMC became a superpowered Mary Sue character. So yeah. This was my first and last series by this author. Not a fan.

After reading all 5 super short books, a few thoughts.
1) no need for so many books. A trilogy would be enough, especially if there is more content in each book.
2) the fated mate thing. They treated her like garbage but because they are fated mates they must be together. There’s is lots of grovelling especially from Mace and Anzac and lots of over-protectiveness from her inner Phoenix (which is great). Trevor and Xerxes are the best ones and have always treated her with respect from the moment they met. Jett feels an afterthought in many moments. Willard is unnecessary, honestly.
3) the ending. Really? Not even I’m an epilogue? The story ends in the middle of a scene. I don’t want have to subscribe to have future extra scenes (and if they are like most of authors who do that, will be pretty much a fuckfest scene). I want the epilogue when I’m actually reading the book, not in however many months after I finished them.
4) all in all is a fun story. The FMC is smart and funny. The sex scenes are ok. After a while, it gets repetitive. The weirdest moment is when two of her mates are we her and I had to read that “they were careful not to touch each other”. Are they going catch gayness if their cocks touch?

What a disappointment

After following a series for four bucks and getting to learn about an incredible world, I was expecting a better ending. I’m not quite sure if it’s a continuance or an ending at this point there was no real cliffhanger and no new character development. We didn’t get to see the relationship build or grow between any of the characters. I expected better from this author, who so far has left me impressed.

Did you die series by Sedona Ashe

First off this is one wild ass ride! I enjoyed every moment of it! I think Amaryllis is everything a MFC should be funny, strong and kick ass!! She has some of the most funny lines in this series! She runs into way to many obstacles and keeps getting back up. When I found out how many mates this woman has I about fainted. It's like they never stopped coming. I am going say the first book Klutz Phoenix down had me mad at her first five mates. These dudes deserved a quick kick to their baby makers over and over! They treated her like crap and it had me heated. Yes they make up for it but let's be honest the groveling Ryls made them so was chef's kiss!! So I love all of her men for different readons but Xerxes is my favorite!! That Drakon is Everything! He came in swinging from the moment he enter the book! He treats her like the queen she is and I ate that up. All in all this series is action packed! It has so many men to one very clumsy and deadly ( mostly to herself) heroine. You will not get bored I can assure you that. I love this series and I can not wait for Iolani duet. I want this Queen to get her HEA!!

Wish it didn't have to end

The only disappointing thing was that it ended. Definitely need more. What happens when Trevors family comes to visit? What about the new addition, inquiring readers want to know.

not much ending

I enjoyed the humour and storyline but overall it was a bit quick and light on. Most importantly, There wasn’t much of an ending… was just suddenly over without really finishing or tying anything up. I really enjoyed the rest of the serious so was disappointed by this book.

This was a really sweet ending.
I would’ve liked a little more time with all of her mates, plus Imp. But. 🤷🏻‍♀️ it was still pretty dang satisfying.

Disappointing end to an amazing series...

Since book 1, I've been singing the praises of this series, recommending it in all of my book groups, and happily snatching up everything else written by the author in hopes of her continuing to write this story.

I feel like I just got smacked in the face for all of my efforts. Ending this series with a novella is a travesty. It's like Sedona didn't have any more passion for this story and just produced something to get it over with. I cannot, in good conscience, ever recommend this series again and I don't want to read anything else from the author for fear of more of the same.

Why?

I have loved this series so much, and it was a painful wait for the last book of the series for it to end up being a disappointing conclusion. I was expecting it to all about rhys and her mates and not to be thrown into another character for spin-off. I don't think I will read the next book. This just ruined it all for me.

Weird ending

We were told this was the last book and it was going to be a HEA, but then it just ended suddenly. It should have been a complete book with a proper ending and then we could have a spin off book later with Queen Iolani. Massive disappointment

Rather confused and disappointed

I absolutely loved this series till this incredibly short story. Such a disappointment. Not sure what the author was thinking and unfortunately I will not be reading any further spin off books.

This book was… alright. I will honestly say that it definitely had some funny parts for sure and I was enjoying it until it sort of just ended without any sort of (for lack of a better word) closure with Willard. He felt so unnecessary to me and I guess I wanted to see more of their relationship bloom without signing up for anything.
The ending was a bit of a cliffhanger for the new spin off series.
Still enjoyed it though!

Narrator Performance: Female: 🎧🎧🎧🎧.5 Male: 🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧

This last book in the But Did You Die? series although still extremely humorous was a bit emotional compared to the other books in the series. It was also a somewhat nerve wracking. For a good chunck of the book I found myself waiting with bated breath for a certain scene. Wondering if it was going to happen or not filled me with angst. Plus the very ending was a huge surprise that left me elated. Bravo to the author for wringing multiple emotions out of me.

As usual Bridget and Jake Bordeaux totally slayed the narration. They did a stellar job of giving voice to all of the various characters. Their duet narration captured the intensity in the scenes from the fights to the passionate times and everything in between.

* This New Adult, Reverse Harem book contains shapeshifters and fated mates. While there are explicit sexual situations with M/F and M/F/M groupings it’s all about the woman with no ⚔️

fun to read.

This series is fun to read, quite a few moments where I laughed out loud. I feel that the last book was rushed and left so much unsaid and unfinished. Hopefully will be answered in the new series.

I am sad this series is over (I am going to research to see if there were any spinoffs with a certain other phoenix!) and was happy with this ending but I wanted moooore.

I was happy I waited to listen to these until all were available because that cliffhanger in book 4 was heart-wrenching! I was happy to see the guys were ok while Ryls was gone and it wasnt a super long time before she got in contact with them. I laughed at how Xerxes was in sweats and it was like the end of the world (boy would I love to see an art print of that hahaha). Will actually grew on me and I wish we had a longer book 5 so he could have more time. I mean he gets some alone with her but not long. I loved the different reactions of the guys when Ryls was able to make it back to the living and I was sad we only got a glimpse of her mom and wished she could go back and hang out with her mom and their mates based on the changes the gatekeeper wanted to institute when she goes back.

I think for me this felt rushed for a finale. I shook my head she was captured again (even if she went willingly haha) since it happens almost every book. I thought the way she took out the baddies was anticlimactic but it’s hard when she is now like an all powerful creature. I wish we got to see her in her form again and we got a real battle at the end. That is why I couldn’t give it a 5 star; book 4 was still my favorite and was the closest to 5 stars out of the series. I will say I laughed so hard in a lot spots (the funny pop song references, especially timber haha, the way Ryls dies at the weirdest times, the evil spider, etc.

Narration was as good in this one like it was in the others! This seemed better quality in terms of the volume differences between the narrators (unlike books 3 and 4 where it was very prevalent). I thought the emotion from the guys when they saw her for the first time was amazingly done, when Ryls got to meet her mom was heartbreaking, when a got a POV from Ryls’ new friend, and Imp’s antics haha (especially when she saw the Queen in the real world).

Overall I really enjoyed this series, I will be checking out her other series because a lot of them have puny titles/series so I was like sign me up 🤣❤️
