Rate this book
Seit ihrer Kindheit weiß Leopardenstern, dass sie den FlussClan eines Tages vor der Zerstörung retten wird. Mit Stolz verteidigt sie ihre Gefährten. "You never trust any cat!” Leopardstar’s pelt bristled. “You’ve never trusted me!”
“I wanted to,” he mewed. “I
still want to.”
“Then why are you questioning me? You told me I’d save the Clans. Let me save them!”
The moon was high now and the sky indigo behind him. Mudfur’s eyes shone like water. “When I told you that
you’d save the Clans, I believed it with my whole heart. But now . . .” His mew trailed away.

Considering my general dislike of Leopardstar, I didn't expect to like this book as much as I did. However it serves its purpose very well - it shows us exactly the chain of events that leads to , and ultimately to let Stonefur die, and it does it in a way that makes the final controversial scenes feel authentic and real for her character, even if still unjustified.
Responsibility is placed on her early for the safety of those she loves - in the very first chapter Leopardkit is told by her father Mudfur that StarClan spared her for a reason - the reason being that one day she'd be important to all the Clans. Throughout the story you can see how this responsibility impacts on Leopardstar and her decision-making - many of her actions are driven by a confidence that she must be doing the right thing, because StarClan said she would save the Clans. It fuels her duty to her Clan fiercely, to the point where
Warriors is a series that is often criticized for its poor character development in places, but Leopardstar's character development shines in this book. Her character moves from place to place, realizing her flaws and mistakes and working to rectify them, even if it isn't quickly enough to mean a happy ending for her or for others. The book also clearly showcases her pride and blindness to her bad decisions - in earlier parts of the book Leopardfur challenges many of Crookedstar's decisions as his deputy and believes with all her heart that she is doing the right thing for her Clan even if her leader won't, and yet after she becomes leader and names Stonefur deputy there are multiple scenes where she is frustrated with him for disagreeing with her and undermining her authority, some of which she considers to be traitorous rather than simple disagreement. It's an interesting thing to consider regarding Leopardstar's character and , and having this book peek into Leopardstar's thoughts and actions feels necessary and like it enhances the story given to us in The Prophecies Begin.
One of the things I enjoyed most about this book was Leopardstar's interactions with other characters - her friendship with Sunfish and subsequent mentoring of Whiteclaw, which builds up to was very enjoyable to read. It was also refreshing to see Leopardfur and Frogleap The characters Leopardstar interacts with have a huge impact on the way she behaves throughout the book -
Mudfur and Leopardstar's relationship was a point of contention for me, though not necessarily because it was badly written. As mentioned, Leopardstar's belief that she was spared from death so that she could save the Clans hovers behind her every decision, and how Mudfur chooses to respond to those decisions felt very uncomfortable to read. He continually points out the flaws in her decisions, but never acknowledges how his disclosure of the prophetic dream affected Leopardstar's development from a young age and how it is influencing her decisions now. Regardless of my problems with their communication however, it was nice to revisit their relationship more deeply after the glimpses we were given in Crookedstar's Promise.
I expected the book to touch on Leopardstar's dealings with Tigerstar for longer than it did, but I can't necessarily say that the focus we did get was insufficient. We see his charm, how he knows exactly what to say to manipulate Leopardstar and her desire to keep her Clan safe, and
. You feel her helplessness, how if she chooses to go against Tigerstar then her Clan will suffer the consequences. And while it doesn't serve to justify her decisions, especially regarding it provides a clarity to them that we don't get from the events in The Prophecies Begin alone. I do sympathise with her, and I appreciated seeing her ultimately recognize her mistakes, drastic as they were. The story we were given gave so much depth to a controversial character that, until now, we'd only seen from the outside. Whenever I reread the first series, I'll definitely be looking at Leopardstar in a different light.

I feel like I could give this a higher rating if it felt like someone had at least TRIED to edit it before rushing it to publish. Not only were there a glaring amount of typos, but direct conflicts in events to scenes that had JUST happened. I had to stop way too many times to figure out what was going on because of these errors.

fun fact: before I contacted a Goodreads librarian to change this, this book was cataloged as a novella called 'Leopardstar's Love' about a relationship between Leopardstar and Tigerstar in the database at one point

I think the description said something like 'In this gripping novella, the relationship between Leopardstar and the power-hungry Tigerstar is explored' or something, I saved a screenshot somewhere

This is the worst money grab in the whole Warriors franchise. Unless you're a completionist, there is absolutely no reason to pick this up. It's a cheat to the fans who waste their time and/or money on it.

Lepardstar doesn't really get her own story. Sure, it's her POV, but since this takes place concurrently with the original arc, she's being tossed from one plot beat to the next with no agency of her own. She's wherever the original arc needs her to be. It even skips sizable chunks of time for no reason, except that anyone who's read the OG arc already knows what happened, which should say something. The longer this book goes on, the more time it passes over and the more it requires you to have a knowledge of the OG series, while adding nothing unique to the narrative.

Other Super Editions show the characters on quests far from home, so they can write whatever and it doesn't interfere with the main timeline of the six book arcs; or it bridges gaps between arcs, because there's usually a few moons between arcs. Sometimes Super Editions do both. Trying to keep Leopardstar in the forest and tell a unique story, concurrent with an already fleshed out series, was going to be difficult from the start and it wasn't handled well. Leopardstar doesn't disappear during the original series, so there wasn't much room to tell us anything we didn't know, unless the writer got creative. Unfortunately, the effort didn't go well.

I think there was a halfhearted attempt to show Leopardstar as someone lacking confidence and reveal how she fell for Tigerstar's lies. She had a strained relationship with her father as she got older, but she wanted his approval, and that's what made her susceptible to Tigerstar's manipulation tactics. That would have been great, if Erin Hunter had committed to that angle, because it's realistic and would make Leopardstar more sympathetic; but EH never really fleshed it out. She was just always mad at her father without ever getting to the root of why, wanting his approval that she had as a kit.

Leopardstar doesn't even have an interesting upbringing. She gets bullied and abused for, like, 3 chapters and I kept thinking it would come up later as someone she has to challenge for responsibility or prove her skills to, or something. But she just gets over it and never holds it against her bully and they get along just fine without an apology or confrontation.

Leopardstar's Honor tried to cover too much material (roughly 1,800 pages from the original arc) and ended up revealing very little about Leopardstar. If you're thinking this might be a good replacement for the original arc because of the events it includes, it isn't. It skips events at the end, when you get the feeling it's been going on too long for one book (which it does) and the writer just wants to end it already. You could literally just imagine what happened in Riverclan when Firestar wasn't around, for all this added to the OG series (which is absolutely nothing).

I've ranted online and offline about the decline of the Warriors franchise in recent arcs, and handed out plenty of one and two star ratings, but this book makes me actively angry in just how pointless it was. Just a total ripoff. Skip it.

I really enjoyed this book, and my favorite part was when Leopardstar became the deputy. My favorite character was Leopardstar, and I liked her backstory. The part that surprised me most was when Leopardstar declined Frogleap's request of becoming her mate. The only part I didn't enjoy about this book was that it jumped through some things (like the apprenticeship of cats or cats getting their warrior names), and didn't explain what had happened. Overall, I liked this book, and Leapardstar is now one of my favorite characters from the Warriors series.

An absolute disaster of a book from beginning to end. It's not that Leopardstar is uninteresting its that this book FEELS like it was written by a group of people. There are grammar mistakes galore, missing or misspelled words, random inconsistencies with names or characters. ShadowClan cats were living in RiverClan camp before that actually happened/they were introduced. The time jumps were bizarre and could have been broken up with chapters. Sometimes time jumps were separated by chapters, or by a skipped line or by *** stars but it was never consistent. I was really looking forward to reading about Leopardstar's background and damn this just put it through the wood chipper.

I really wanted to enjoy this one .... but I hated it with passion. I felt no sympathy for Leopardstar and she is still my least favourite character to this day. She was boring, she was sloppily written, her redemption was garbage and I hated how full of mistakes this book was. It felt like nobody proof read it before it got thrown into the stores.

This was a really enjoyable Super Edition!

It feels a lot like the older Super Editions (i.e. Bluestar's Prophecy, Tallstar's Revenge), which is a good thing because I personally think the older ones have a charm to them that a lot of the newer ones lack (I'm talking post Hawking's Journey).

One such example of this book being good and reminiscent of the older Super Editions is the constant interaction with the character's Clanmates. Newer Warrior books in general have the Clans feeling a lot less like a community because of the lack of communication between the main characters and them (as well as there being tons of cats in Clans now). For example, aside from characters who appeared in Omen of the Stats or before (and former main characters), we don't KNOW what their personalities, interests or role in the Clan are. What does Dewnose do? I don't know, beats me. He exists I guess?

While 'Leopardstar's Honor' doesn't fix this issue completely, the Clan does feel a lot more like a community. Leopardstar is constantly seen interacting with her Clanmates, and it's a nice change of pace from the newer books.

The pacing of the book was also good. There were never really extremely boring parts, as there was always something interesting going on, whether it was a battle, a death or even just Leopardstar developing a relationship with other characters. Even though the plot was basically 'The Prophecies Begin from Leopardstar's perspective', it was still enjoyable.

However, there was a major glaring issue of this Super Edition: Leopardstar. I've always loved Leopardstar, but I don't like how she's constantly let off the hook so easily. Yes, you can accidentally do something bad but you have good intentions, but that doesn't excuse the fact that you did something bad!

Things like this happen quite often in the book, and it gets frustrating. Leopardstar would mess up, another character would call her out on it, she would say that she had good intentions, and then she wouldn't be punished or anything. Even if another character is rightfully upset at her, they get over it in like a chapter.

This mindset instilled in this book can easily spread a bad message to people, especially kids, as it essentially says, "no matter how badly you messed up, if you had good intentions, then you don't deserve to be punished."

Anyways, I did enjoy this book quite a lot. Fans of the older Super Editions would also probably like this one. I just think that It has the potential of spreading a bad message to it's younger audience.

A worthy addition to the Warriors canon, Leopardstar's Honor does a really great job filling in more of the gaps in the story line progression of The Prophecies Begin. It would make a great companion story to read alongside that arc if someone felt like charting out the sequence of chapters and when you could read different sections of the book.

I didn't expect to like this as much as I did, considering I previously hadn't liked Leopardstar much.

But this book definitely gave a lot more insight into her decisions, life, and RiverClan. It was an interesting addition to the Warriors world and gave a different POV of events that had already happened in the first series.

Leopardstar was always shown as very stuck up and bossy in the original series and this book really showed that she wasn’t. She was a good leader, and was very opinionated, but understood that actions had consequences. I like the fact that her father is a medicine cat and it’s absolutely fine, it just proves that there shouldn’t be a rule against medics cats having kits. Leopardstar was always a very overlooked leader in series since most of her reign was during the second series when they are traveling the whole time. She definitely deserved this book, and it was very deep into her story.

ok this book started off good but like the last hundred pages physically pained me to read, even putting aside all the consistency and grammatical errors. I love Leopardstar, but in this book SHE NEVER LEARNS HER LESSON

have her decide to betray Tigerstar much earlier, but have her keep quiet about it until the battle where it's safe for her Clanmates to betray him. obviously it was too dangerous for her to betray him in camp but why did she act like a sacred mouse about it when this could've tied into her arc of "don't act rashly" and "fight, but fight with the safety of your Clanmates in mind". it would still make sense for Stonefur's death, because if she had betrayed him then, then her Clan could've been seriously hurt by ShadowClan. Instead of being afraid, she could have thought of Stonefur as a nessasary sacrifice to save her Clan. Obviously she regrets that her desicions led to this, and she's sad, but she can't do anything without endangering many more lives. They could also decide to have her be involved with Mistyfoot and the apprentices sneaking out, like maybe she was planning to do it but then stonefur died, or she saw them leaving in the night and let them. all that would be so much better then her just being too scared.

I did like her relationships with Whiteclaw, Sunfish, and Silverstream, as well as her mentor but tbh this takes up too little of the book to redeem it. Also the Frogleap plot was awful.

in any case, I'm glad to finally be starting the first arc now, and putting this book behind me.

The errors are egregious: the allegiances are now an in-fandom joke, there are events entirely out of order, spelling and grammar mistakes galore, the infamous redtail/oakheart continuity error 2 full years after it was created; and Kate outright lied about enjoying writing a character "uneuncumbered by romance"* by doing exactly that in this book. Sometimes Warriors books are so bad they're funny to read. This is not one.

The graphic novels plainly hire continuity editors (and editors in general...), so purchase one of those instead.

The good:
-Leopard had a cute dynamic with Sunfish and Whiteclaw! I thought her relationship with both of them were touching and sweet. Her relationship with her father when she was a kit was also quite cute, it was nice to see him spoiling her because she is his special baby!
-Leopard and Tiger's relationship was generally pretty well written. I felt like it made sense why Leopard found him intriguing and believed why she would want to hang out with him.
-Leopard's character was more-or-less consistently written, and I enjoyed her as a haughty, arrogant character.
-The storyline is more-or-less consistent with the canon timeline and events as they are set up in the first arc. Which is, uh, quite a low bar, but sometimes these books can't even do that (coughredtailsdebtcough) so I'll mark it as a plus.
-An engaging first few chapters. The interaction with Leopard and Sky when they were kits genuinely made me GASP. I was NOT expecting that! It was a really good set up for an intriguing story, and I was waiting with baited breath to see where that plotline went. Unfortunately,

The bad:
-The plot, or lack thereof. This book was basically just a rehash of the events from arc 1, of which Leopardstar has incredibly little agency or hand in the events that unfold.
-Due to the above, I felt like the pacing was not great and reading it just felt... kind of boring? It just feels like several hundred pages of filler, leading up to That Moment with Stonefur, which is anticlimatic because they actually OPEN with that scene in the prologue and then rehash the exact same scene almost word-for-word during the climax of the book. Like... okay?
-Poor editing. I was expecting this one, since the allegiances were a hot mess () but I was still disappointed. It genuinely felt like they didn't even give it a second read-through, just wrote it, plugged it through a spellchecker, and sent it off to be published. :/ One example of this is that
-Leopardstar's.... redemption? Character development? IDEK what to call it. It made no sense and was poorly done. Leads back to my first point.
-Frogleap. Everything between her and Frogleap was almost painfully boring to read.

If I were to take the premise for this story and write it again,

Anyways, I feel like this was a pretty middle of the road SE. Not great, not terrible, mostly kind of boring. If you like Leopardstar you'll probably enjoy this book, I obviously do not have strong feelings of affection for her which made this story a bit less enjoyable to read.

Is there Scourge? Yes!

you know a book isn't the best when it takes 400 pages to get interesting. I know it's a retelling of the first arc through her POV but man is she just the most obnoxiously cocky-insecure cat. Leopardstar is so awful, I spent over two months just trying to get through it. Also I have the first edition, so I'm not sure if it's fixed, but the grammatical errors are hilarious. My favourite is "anther" instead of "another".

anyways...skip it. She's an awful cat, that's all there is to it.

Prologue

Leopardstar feels she only has one choice to save her Clan. I feel this is not good leadership. A leader knows there are many choices and they have to do their best to make the best ones. All the choices are going to have pros and cons. Why she thinks Tigerstar is the answer is beyond me at the moment. Even her asking herself this doesn’t show me why. I have never thought she was a great leader. Even in other arcs such as A Vision of Shadows I have never liked how she separated the Clan from the others. I feel she was not the best choice to be leader but I guess of all the other cats in that Clan currently maybe she was. I don’t know why Stonefur was not next in line instead of her. I don’t remember if he was still an apprentice maybe or if it is the fact he is half-Clan. But half-Clan or not he seems like he would have been the better choice since he isn’t afraid to stand up go Tigerstar. While Leopardstar only watches him die and orders him to kill apprentices.

Chapter 1

Echomist tells Mudfur he spoils Leopardkit. Mudfur says it doesn’t seem to do her any harm. But it does. She walks around camp like nothing can touch her. She cheats in games with her other denmates and nestmates. Crookedjaw helps her cheat. This is part of the reason why she can’t stand on her own four paws as Mudfur says later in the future when she makes an agreement with Tigerstar and also has a tough choice of leading like Crookedjaw or maintain the peace among the Clans. She rats out Skykit's hiding place just so she can get away from Sedgekit chasing her. Skykit is a bully and only jealous the treatment Leopardkit gets. I’m shocked either of them don’t end up with the villain cats.

Chapter 2

Skypaw probably doesn’t even realize the trauma she had caused on Leopardpaw and her fear of water. All she can do is tease her because she is jealous. Leopardpaw having to practice a battle move over and over has nothing to do with her having a destiny. What a good friend Sunpaw is to Leopardpaw. That’s a good friend doing what she did to help Leopardpaw face her fear. Again, what does her age have to do with her future of her saving RiverClan. She thinks her learning and training doesn’t apply to her because she is planned to save her Clan. Does she thinks she knows all because Mudfur told her this? Maybe he told her this information too young.

Chapter 3

Leopardfur is a warrior now but you never get to experience her first Gathering. It seems you don’t experience any Gatherings because you haven’t this far. Why was Crookedjaw so nice to Leopardfur?

Chapter 4

A lot of time has passed because Sunfish has already had one litter and they were already warriors. Leopardfur is doing a lot of staring now and nit saying much now that this happened. Maybe she learns her anger got the best of her. Ummm letting them insult them versus attacking straight away I don’t think would have made a difference and Leopardfur is a fool for even thinking it. Leopardfur does have a good point about standing up to them doesn’t make her the villain. She wasn’t the one who killed another cat or injured one so badly that it’s life threatening. Wasn’t Leopardfur supposed to have all senior warriors with her? Why did the senior warriors allow this to happen. I guess only age applies to be qualified for holding the title of senior warriors.

Chapter 5

Frogleap ends up helping Leopardfur become a better mentor because she was struggling. Leopardfur was irritated that Whitepaw would listen to him and not her. She asked him why and Frogleap said it is because you were his friend before you were his mentor. Relationships are hard to change once they’re fixed.

Chapter 6

She tries justifying her reason for not seeing her father because she is a healthy cat and there’s no reason for her to go to the medicine den to see him. You don’t have to be ill to go see your own father in the medicine den. This book really had you see the darker side of ThunderClan. They have now killed three cats due to the battles over Sunningrocks. I don’t remember if their Clan leader Sunstar is aware this is all happening.

Chapter 8

Finally the mention of a Gathering, which happens to be Leopardfur’s second one as deputy. Not her first. Leopardfur felt a rush of admiration for Tigerclaw when he spoke up against Brokenstar. Umm, wasn’t she mad at him for killing her friends? The ones she loved the most. Or did we suddenly forget about that? Leopardfur speaks of how she feels Mudfur should give into bullies like Brokenstar to save RiverClan, how nothing she says will change his mind. Doesn’t she do the same thing when handing over her Clan to Tigerstar? And that’s much worse than Crookedstar giving into Brokenstar. Leopardfur must somehow be a decedent of Moth Flight.

Chapter 9

I guess since Frogleap is now crushing on Mosspelt some of his feelings have changed toward Crookedstar's decision on allowing ShadowClan to hunt on their territory. When he wanted Leopardfur as a mate he seemed he had strong feelings as Leopardfur did. Now that he is with Mosspelt he is all about the peace. Which way does he truly feel? Because it seems he only feels based on his crush’s feelings.

Chapter 10

Leopardfur feared as long as Crookedstar was leader nothing would ever change. But boy does she change it. She puts up one hell of a fight about ShadowClan hunting on their territory. She allows Tigerstar, the current ShadowClan leader, take over. At least Brokenstar hadn’t tried to take over. He only asked for hunting rights. And while he probably would have asked for more, Tigerstar did not ask to start with hunting rights, he just took over. And for Leopardfur to be against half Clan born, she should really go back in time to when Mothflight gave one of her kits to each Clan. Not only that but how Oakheart and Silverstream both have half-clan kits.

Chapter 11

Crookedstar says Bluestar’s argument is weak on how they need to bring WindClan back because StarClan gave them four seasons and four trees, just as the forest needs four Clans. His is weak. Like they have a choice of having the four seasons. Of course no one there really likes the cold and low prey during the cold months. But just cause they don’t like it means they can get rid of it.

Chapter 15

As far as Leopardfur knew, no RiverClan cat had been near ThunderClan territory. But there has, Silverstream and Graystripe are mates.

Chapter 19

Leopardfur has lost so many cats she has loved. She lost her mother when she was born. She lost Whitefang and Sunfish, Whiteclaw and now Frogleap. It seems every cat she gets close to ends up dying.

Chapter 20

Now they lost Perchkit, Pikekit which are still not found and Woodkit and Robinkit they lost to death. Leopardfur was able to save Dawnkit. She finally got to save a cat. If she too had lost the kit she was trying to save, I think she would be questioning more her ability to lead the Clan than she already is.

Chapter 21

Why Crookedstar and Leopardfur think Fireheart and Graystripe are doing this behind Bluestar’s back? Bluestar could have told them to offer.

Chapter 22

Leopardfur says she doesn’t know why I ever trusted ThunderClan. Well, it’s not the whole of ThunderClan. It is two cats from ThunderClan which are Fireheart and Graystripe. She trusted them because she knew her Clan did need a little help. But when they show up late once she thinks it’s because they are letting her Clan down. Not because some other situation in their own Clan. Is happening. Like I don’t know maybe WindClan attacked them for sheltering Brokentail. Very selfish thinking.

Chapter 23

I’ve said this before, Leopardfur was angry how ShadowClan hunted on her land when they were staving but when her Clan suffered it’s okay to hunt on WindClan land. Some will argue they left but they all agreed to bring them back. Leopardfur also says they have no need, well Tallstar put her on her place by telling her need has nothing to do with it. Pg 370 Mistyfoot announces Silverstream has died giving birth to Graystripe’s kits and Graystripe and Fireheart buried her at Sunningrocks while the kits are being nursed by a ThunderClan queen. Why is Leopardfur referring to herself in the 3rd person when questioning what would have happened if she promised to support her no matter what she did? Leopardfur asks herself would Crookedstar feel the same way if these weren’t his daughter's kits. I question that too, as well as a lot of things.

Chapter 24

Leopardfur mentions on pg 383 how she was part of a group of RiverClan cats not long before Graystripe and his kits had joined RiverClan to help ThunderClan fight off a group of rogues. Why is this only mentioned now? Isn’t this a book just about Leopardfur? Wouldn’t you think it would be mentioned especially since she has this hatred towards ThunderClan? She would say something to the effect that ThunderClan needed help and are not all powerful and mighty.

Chapter 26

Even on Crookedstar’s death bed he tells Leopardfur to steer clear of Tigerclaw. She is not told this once but even as far back as Chapter 12 Mudfur says he has a nightmare about Tigerclaw and how he wants power and he’ll do anything to get it. She is even told by Graystripe to not trust him in chapter 25. And yet she is still blind. She is told three times. Not to mention Tigerclaw first fights with the rogues. Then somehow becomes ShadowClan’s leader. Pg 427 is the first time you should read the name Leopardstar.

Chapter 29

Pg 450 Tigerstar questions if StarClan enjoys watching their petty quarrels over borders and prey. Leopardstar says of course not but that’s a lie. She questioned it as well in Chapter 28 Pg 436 she questions if StarClan was enjoying watching them fight too since they had not sent clouds to cover the moon. Leopardstar says Stonefur has been asking question lately. He clearly doubted her choices. What if he passed on that doubt to his apprentice? Umm, who does that sound like? Her maybe when she was deputy and Crookedstar leader. Perfect example of how it is okay for her to disagree with her leader but not okay when it’s her that is leader.

Chapter 30

Pg 465 Leopardstar decoded to become a single Clan with Tigerstar. Pg 466 Again Mudfur tells Leopardstar there is something dangerous about Tigerstar. How he doesn’t trust Tigerstar.

Chapter 31

How many times does Leopardstar need to say she doesn’t mind loneliness? She is trying to convince herself more so than Tigerstar. Pg 479 is when Leopardstar first sees Scourge and Leopardstar becomes more fearful of Tigerstar. This chapter started out with a Clan meeting being called for the ‘paws to become warriors and they never get their warrior names.

Chapter 32

Leopardstar couldn’t even manage to get out of her nest to organize patrols. She couldn’t even talk to Mudfur. She doesn’t want to admit she is wrong.

Overall

There’s a lot of foreshadowing with Leopardfur and Stonefur. He is mentioned quite a bit with Leopardfur. They also don’t mention going to the Gatherings since they have pretty much been covered already from all angles in the previous Super Editions. I thought there would be more focus on how Tigerstar manipulated Leopardstar. But you don’t even get into the thick of it until Chapter 29. I’m also surprised Mudfur and Leopardstar haven’t had many arguments of her current decisions. They did have many but I still thought they would have more. Leopardstar still isn't a good leader. She begged Mistyfoot to be her deputy and to come back to RiverClan for her only to make Mistyfoot lose trust in her again since she wouldn't let her serve her Clan as a deputy should. She ends up running away again but she does return.

Leopardstar's honour certainly isn't my favourite super edition, but it was pretty enjoyable. Minor spoilers here, but nothing that isn't revealed in The Prophecies Begin!

As usual, I'll start with what I liked: first and foremost, this book was chonky. It's definitely way thicker than your usual Warriors book, even the other super editions! I can never complain about that, because it just means more Warriors to read. Plus, the book is super fast-paced - in only a few chapters Leopardfur was a warrior, then deputy shortly after! I liked how much content the book managed to cover, and it didn't even span to the end of Leoparstar's life like a lot of the other prequels do. (I guess that just goes to show how embroiled RiverClan was with all the chaos that went down in The Prophecies Begin!) Plus, the addition of context for why Whiteclaw's death in the first series upset her so much was nice.

Okay, there were a few things I picked up on that I wasn't as big of a fan of. While I did like the book's fast pace (it was a nice change after Greystripe's Vow's slower style), I think the relationships between Leopardstar and her nursery friends would have had a bit more focus and more meaning towards the latter end of the book - it felt like they dropped off from the story as the plot became the main focus for the second half of the book. My biggest criticism is a glaring error around the apprenticeship of Featherpaw and Stormpaw, where the entire ceremony seems to have been put in the wrong spot of the book. The wiki summarises it quite well:

'The entire paragraph about Featherpaw's and Stormpaw's apprentice ceremony contains several aspects that don't happen until later in the plot:
- Jaggedtooth and Boulder are present during the ceremony despite only being stationed in RiverClan after it joined with ShadowClan to form TigerClan.
- Feaherpaw and Stormpaw are apprenticed too early in the plot as later the book mentions how Skyheart keeps Mosspelt company in the nursery now that Mistyfoot's kits are apprentices. This implies that by this point, Mosspelt is still in the nursery with Featherkit and Stormkit.
- Additionally, Tigerstar later also asks Leopardstar if she's still planning to make Mistyfoot and Stonefur mentors to Featherkit and Stormkit, even though their ceremony has already been held'

I know the Warriors series is riddled with mistakes (many of them very entertaining), but this one really ruined my immersion because it didn't go by unnoticed like most of them. It genuinely seems like they put a chapter in the wrong place. How did nobody pick up on this? It's not like one of those mistakes where the Erins forgot to check what happened in the older books they wrote - no, this whole scene directly contradicts stuff that happens in the next few chapters. What the heck.

So... it's quite hard to rate this one. I really enjoyed the first half of this book, but I found it a bit lacklustre beyond that point. I'd feel terrible giving a warriors book three stars, but I'm not sure if it's worthy of four. I really want to give it a 3.5... but I'll settle for three. I'd still recommend reading it if you're a fan of the series, but I've enjoyed most other super editions more.

Extremely disappointing. I'm actually glad that I bought it secondhand instead of directly supporting the authors.

There are constant time jumps and events are written out of order, which makes it extremely confusing and difficult to read. There are a boatload of grammatical errors. The entire books feels so rushed. This surprised me, considering it felt like it took me ages to finish.

Leopardstar's "redemption" is absolute garbage. I was actually extremely interested to read her point of view and why she would fall for Tigerstar's lies, but we got nothing. It was extremely rushed and felt like a cash grab.

I'm extremely disappointed and definitely wouldn't recommend purchasing. If you have a public library near you, I would recommend reading it through them instead of wasting money on it. It's even more disappointing because I know there is a team of writers working on the book. How did none of them catch any of the grammatical errors, insane time jumps, and plot contradictions? If I happened to be a writer of a successful series, I would like to think I would continue working on my passion instead of putting out cash grabbing garbage.

Overall, extremely disappointing. The Warrior Cats series was a favorite while I was growing up and I still love rereading them, but the newer Super Editions have been awful with no consideration for previous events or plots from past books/series.

Leapordstar's honor was pretty good when she was an apprentice and kit. because it was apart that we didn't see in the original arc but when she was the leader everthing that happened was already in the original arc, this made the parts boring for me because I already know everything that happened
in the book the Frogleap relationship seemed completely unnecessary (Leopardstar didn't need a love interest,) but I thought it was handled fairly well, but their break up to me seemed to boil down to the fact that Frogleap wanted kits and Leopardfur didn't, and Leopardfur being really busy as deputy was just sort of the catalysis which made him realize this, but not the reason that they broke up. One of my favoraite part was leapordstar's relationshop with whiteclaw (her friend's kit) because in the original arc leapardstar blamed graystripe (a thunderclan cat who mated with a riverclan cat who is also crookedstar's kit) After whiteclaw's death in the original arc I always wanted to dig deeper in the relation between leapardstar and whiteclaw. Overall this book was good but, if the author could write more about the life after the things that happened in the original arc the book would be more interesting for warrior fans.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE LEOPARDSTAR AND I COULD NOT BEEN MORE HAPPY WITH THIS SUPER EDITION!

This was a much needed pov, and I feel like it really added to the series. Being able to finally see leopardstar’s thought process for allying with tigerstar was something I have wanted to see for years.

I love the development in this particular super edition than most of the others. She went through so much and had to make so many hard decisions, but she always had her clan’s best interests at heart.

Something I took note of while reading was how much detail was put into it. While yes, warriors is an incredibly complex, vivid, well written series within itself, this book in particular stood out to me. How they got this amount of action in one book without it feeling rushed is lost on me.

“She had caused her clanmates great pain and even lost some of them forever. But now she realized what was most important to her: not making riverclan all-powerful, but ensuring that the clan she’d been born into would live on forever. That is how she would save riverclan”

This should have been a novella and oh my goodness seeing that it was published in 2021 makes so much sense. You can tell that this was written by completely new people who are trying (and oftentimes failing) to capture the original Erins style in the 2000s. What is left is something that soured on me the longer I sat with it.

This is essentially the first arc of Warrior Cats condensed down to one book and told from one extremely limited perspective. Leopardstar is an interesting character! I love when women are mean and unsympathetic! I only wish that she had a bit more agency near the end. Some of the chapters where she falls hook, line, and sinker for Tigerclaw’s fascist flimflam are just painful to get through only because I know MY Leopardstar didn’t get manipulated this easily.

At the end of the day, it’s a little sad when the most notable first arc revelation is official confirmation on the color of Scourge’s collar

this gave me a needed perspective on leopardstar i dont think her haters understand how much tigerstar manipulated her and how powerless she really felt even if she made some very bad decisions anyway whats really important is the comic at the end of this book that shows how fucking lesbian leopardstar is for mistyfoot

The worst super edition I've read so far. It's basically a retelling of the first arc from a different POV, but even knowing her dramatized history, it doesn't justify her actions. I have a lot to complain about with this novel. There were few good things about it; the best part was the magna at the end—those 3 pages were better than the entire story.
