I loved this book. It is well written, with a fantastic storyline with a compelling premise and a cast of well developed characters that really made this book a great read. I loved that the protaganists were sherlock bones the detective dog and his companion Dr Catson the loyal cat sidekick.

It was compelling, clever and fun and the puzzle elements were a lovely addition that will help kids learn puzzle solving as well as feeling like they have had a part to play in the overall mystery.

This was one of the best children's books I have read this year.

„Enthusiast“. This book was brilliant! The puzzles, the plot, the pictures all brilliant! My 5 year old loved it! He felt like a detective, solving the clues and I just loved hearing, “one more chapter please mum” 🥰

The book follows Sherlock Paws and Dr Catson and their investigation into who stole the Queen’s Crown Jewels! The story is easy to follow, not just for me but for my son too. He was engaged with the story and could read along with me for some parts.

The length is perfect for nighttime reading although we were picking it up at every opportunity - the chapter sizes are just right and there’s at least 2 puzzles in each so it keeps the children’s attention as you go along.

The illustrations really supported the story too and we spent a lot of time looking over the pictures for clues. I have already been asked when the next one is out!

A fabulous tale that will make a thrilling children's series.
Sherlock Bones, Dr. Catson, Professor Moriratty. Plenty of fun to keep the adults entertained while enjoying this story with the younger reader, while the puzzles throughout will keep youngsters engaged throughout!
Fast paced, fun characters, great illustrations! They really brought the story to life well.
A joy to read.

Sherlock Bones and the Case of the Crown Jewels by Tim Collins
Illustrated by John Bigwood
Age 7-9
The book is written from the viewpoint of Dr Jane Catson, the sidekick to Sherlock Bones and they run the detective agency between them. This time, the crown jewels have been stolen from the Queen and the dog and cat must solve the crime! Of course, the Queen isn’t our Queen, she’s a dog, specifically “a pug with a droopy mouth” who lives in Kennel Palace.
This is a great book for kids, just the kind of thing my son loves. As well as the fun story and the beautifully detailed illustrations, the book also contains over thirty games, including mazes, number puzzles and search-and-find challenges. (Answers are at the back!) This means there are lots of things to break up the pages of text and make it more interesting for the kids reading it.
It is very cleverly written and I enjoyed the humour in it too. The cast of animals are great fun, especially the naughty police pups. You even get to read the statements from the suspects to see if you can guess who the thief is! (I guessed wrong.) I would really recommend this, I’m sure any child aged about six to eleven would love this fun book.

As a fan of Sherlock Holmes books and movies, this children’s book is right on the mark! Sherlock Bones and Dr Catson are the perfect duo to solve the case of the Crown Jewels. When the Queen is missing her precious crown jewels, Sherlock Bones and Dr Catson are on the case! The Inspector is trying to keep his silly police pups under control. The duo is up against a tough case, as there are many other crimes going on at the same time. They have to decide if there is one mastermind or are the crimes separate.

There is plenty of humor in the book to keep the mystery light-hearted, until they are chased by the Sewer Beast. After Sherlock captures four suspects, he asks them to write their personal statement and hopes that he can discover the real thief. Can they solve the case?

I loved the writing that was exciting and perfectly suited for Sherlock. In between the pages of the story were mazes and questions that fit with each section of the book. With the adorable illustrations, children will enjoy trying to solve the mystery. There’s an answer section in the back to keep everyone honest.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

I sat down to read this book with my nine-year-old nephew. He loves cats and dogs so was instantly attracted to the cover, I was too!

Sherlock bones is the greatest detective the world has ever known. He never runs away from a puzzle and always cracks his cases.

Dr Jane Catson is Sherlock Bones’ crime fighting partner. She’s always ready to pounce into action when faced with a sneaky criminal.

The book is hugely interactive, provokes discussion and is totally fun! The puzzles are awesome and the pictures are purrrfect! This is definitely a great book for some parent/guardian child time.

An easy 5 stars.

What a fun book! Madison has really enjoyed working through this book, doing all the puzzles as well as reading the story. She did find some of the tasks a little hard but they shouldn't be easy should they.

We enjoyed the story and the puzzles broke it up and made it a little more fun to get through.

This is a brilliant book to add to any little ones collection 🙂

3.5 (rounded down)

Interesting premise (a take on Sherlock Holmes with animals as characters), but the mystery was not enticing. Good artwork and love the included puzzles.

Big thanks to Love Books Tours and the author for my gifted copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

What a great book! I was transported right back to my childhood when I used to read those solve-it-yourself mystery books by Usbourne. This book served as a reminder of that, and I was so grateful for the memories it evoked.

My eight year old nephew loved solving the variety of puzzles as the mystery unfolded. He was really keen to solve the case whenever I visited, and help with the photos for this review - and that's the best compliment I could give this book.

This book was educational and fun with a plot that kept us glued in our seats. Here's hoping for more adventures of the doggy detective.

Thank you @lovebookstours and @buster_books for my copy.

When the Crown Jewels go missing from Buckingham Kennel, it’s up to super sleuth Sherlock Bones and his sidekick Dr Catson to solve the crime. But with multiple suspects and a trail that’s starting to run cold, will they be able to catch the culprit in time?

Bones and Catson were fab characters, a great team who knew their breed strengths and weaknesses when it came to solving mysteries. And this was an intriguing mystery full of red herrings! Several times my boys thought they had discovered the identity of the thief only to realise the thief had evaded them yet again.

This was such a great read, lots of laughs were had and plenty of questions and theories thrown around between us. My youngest (5) noticed that there were no humans and every character was an animal, very perceptive! My eldest (8) absolutely loved it, he read some to us and he was so animated, it was lovely to see his passion for the book. I asked him for some words to describe it and he said ‘action-packed, curious, cool!’ His favourite part was the cat chase 😊.

The best thing by far was the interactive element - over 30 games and puzzles blended into the story, my boys loved the mazes and the maps best. It added such a fun immersive feel.

This is the first in a series, I will be buying the rest! I’ve tagged the other accounts posting today so please check out their pages for their opinion on this one!

As we follow the story of Sherlock Bones and Dr Carson whilst they try and solve the mystery of the stollen Crown Jewels, the story is broken up with interactive activities that help the children follow along and solve the mystery with them!

The storyline is really engaging, and for saying it’s a childrens book, I really enjoyed reading it! It has a really strong plot and was really well written in a way that isn’t too childish. It wasn’t too easy to solve either like you might expect a kids book to be, it has me guessing right up until the end! The illustrations are really fun too and the activities are a really fun way to keep children engaged with the story, my little one couldn’t wait to read it every night so she could do more activities.

The cover is beautiful and bright too, really eye catching and really grabs your attention! I really hope there is going to be more in the series!

❤️Macies thoughts (age 6): it’s a really good book and I loved it. My favourite thing about it was the activities. I would read it again and tell my friends to read it❤️

I read this with both my boys aged 11 and 7 over the course of a few days and we all really enjoyed it, I love a book that we can read together. I thought this was a really fun, engaging and easy read that is really well written and had us all guessing who the culprit was right up until the end. Both my boys loved the puzzles that were throughout the book, they both enjoyed trying to race other to solve them first. The illustrations are fabulous and really compliment the book. The narration, from Catson’s POV was really funny. Overall I thought this was really fun and entertaining book that is perfect for little mystery fan

I had the most fun reading this with my nephew. It’s pitched perfectly to keep young readers engaged. I loved the characters, Sherlock Bones and his sidekick Dr Jane Catson. There is included in the book puzzles to solve throughout, I’ve never seen this done before and I thought it was great. It made you/ young readers really think about solving the case. We also enjoyed the illustrations in the book, they brought the characters alive.

What a delightfully fun little read! As an adult I appreciated the quirky little twists on names from the Sherlock Holmes series and reading with my teacher hat on I thought it was excellent. An engaging story that keeps the reader hooked as there are several smaller crimes along the way to solving the big mystery of the missing crown jewels. The vocabulary is fantastic (I especially liked the attention to detail with things like pawsteps instead of footsteps) and the illustrations surprisingly detailed, really adding to the understanding and enjoyment of the text. The inclusion of the puzzles is genius and I imagine would make a child reader feel part of the case and perhaps be particularly appealing to more reluctant readers. The world is very well crafted and I really enjoyed the variety of animal characters included and how the author really fit the characteristics to each really well.
A light-hearted and entertaining read perfect for young detectives, mystery fans or reluctant reader.
(I dropped one star as I did lose sight of the main crime at times)

Received this book in exchange for an open and honest review as part of lovebookstours book tour.

This is a fab young readers book. The story was fun with a little intrigue and the puzzles were great, some easier than others which is great as caters to all levels of puzzlers. Love the quirkiness and engagement of this book and will be passing along to my local school as think the children will love this book!

This is a lovely interactive book for ages 7-9 years. There are puzzles to solve, and search and find challenges inside to complete to try and solve the case alongside Sherlock Bones and Dr Catson. The chapters are short, interspersed with puzzles and illustrations which provide extra entertainment. However, I don't think you need to solve the puzzles to enjoy the actual storyline. A lovely little book for adults and children to enjoy together. I'll be passing this one on for the little ones in my life to enjoy too!

My Thoughts:

This is a cute interactive children’s book where you and your child can help Sherlock Bones and Carson solve the crime Of the missing Crown Jewels. I enjoy reading along side the kids to help solve the puzzles, clue, mazes and more in this book. This is a great children’s book that your child could read alone or with you so both of you can to your minds together and help solve the case of the missing Crown Jewels. I always enjoy books like this guess The inner child in me comes out 😊 If more books come out to help Sherlock Bones solve another case I will definitely be reading it

Both me and my son loved this book. We ended up with a few nights staying up a few minutes past bedtime as we both wanted to read a little bit more.

When the crown jewels go missing from Kennel Palace dog detective Sherlock Bones and his trusty sidekick Dr. Catson are on the case to reunite the Queen with her jewels. As the pair follow the trail and discover multiple suspects they must piece together the clues and catch the culprit before it's too late.

In this first book of a new interactive detective series the reader has to help solve the crime too by solving puzzles along the way. The book is aimed at 7-9 year olds and my nine year old was engrossed in the story. As more clues were solved I loved chatting with him and listening to his ideas and theories. The chapters are fairly short and have one or two puzzles in each to solve. This was perfect to enjoy one chapter an evening. Some of the puzzles were tricky! But my son loves a challenge and persevered until he'd figured out the answers. His favourite were the maths and logic puzzles. But we also enjoyed the mazes and spot the difference.
