Rate this book

Even worse, they want Barnacle, Melancholy and Garlic back, sparking a truly unusual effort to prove that Miss Emily is the best parent for them. Will the family get justice? Will the triplets succeed in their ridiculous fundraisers to pay for the lawyer? Why are there so many raccoons in the courtroom? The only way to find out is to listen to the tragic, troubling, absurd tale of how The Weirdies Get Weirder.

Call me crazy but my 55 year old self absolutely LOVE this series! Can't wait until the next edition. Emily, Barnacle, Melancholy and Garlic are the best characters ever. Sometimes, as an adult, you just have to have a little fun. The Weirdies just does it for me. Kate Winslet's narration is fabulous. Put aside all your inhibitions about children's books and take a listen.

Audible Review

Overall 5 out of 5 stars
Performance 5 out of 5 stars
Story 5 out of 5 stars

Things definitely got weirder!
I'm pretty much attached to Melancholy, Garlic, and Barnacle at this point- I can't get enough of them. When will book 3 be out?!?
There's no doubt about it, this series is out there, but that's what makes it so enjoyable. Is it weird to think it's sweet?

Kate performs all the characters so perfectly, what an outstanding job she does! She really does bring them all to life.
I loved the little nod to the "door", that was a funny scene!

Seriously, when does the third story release???

I truly enjoyed this book.

I liked the first book in the series and loved the second. I hope there will be more in the series. It was so much fun.

I went into it thinking that it's a children's book, but many of the jokes would go over a child's head, even an older child. It was fun.

I recommend this book.

Please stop what you’re doing right now and go listen to this series. Kate Winslet is a national treasure. (Her monologue about Mrs Weirdie and the door? I was dying wheezing laughing out loud). I loved this and I can’t wait for more

I didn't like this story as much as the first one. It was definitely weirder but not as good of a story line.

This one just didn’t have the same magic as the first one for me. There was more of a focus on the adults in this book, so I was longing for more antics by the triplets. Kate Winslet’s narration is fantastic, though, and I love how she brings out the different personalities of Barnacle, Melancholy, and Garlic.

I laughed so many times over this story. I can not wait until there is a third story!

I love how it is narrated by Kate Winslet (Titanic) . When she reads about how the parents were in a cruise accident and the mother was on door... and how there is no way two people could fit on a door, but only a knucklehead would let go (if they were hanging on)! I just laughed. All the extras to this story had me laughing!

I absolutely loved the first book and I was so excited when I saw there was another book in the series. However, I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the first one. It felt like nothing really happened and I didn’t realize the book ended when it did. It felt like the story ended really quickly and unexpectedly, like it was just the end of a chapter not a book, so I was left hanging and feeling blindsided 😅 I did still love getting back into the world of the Weirdies though and I enjoyed the story while it lasted. Also, Kate’s little jibe at the floating door debate from the Titanic was funny. I hope the next book will be a bit longer and have more stuff happen because I could literally sum up the plot in one sentence and you wouldn’t even have to read it.

I THINK I AM GOING TO EXPLODE. I AM LEAKING. I HAVE AN INTENSE DESIRE TO WRAP MY ARMS AROUND YOU AND SQUEEZE.

Once again she plans to use love when murder and kidnapping have proven to be successful. Why do I keep showing her how spears and bayonets work if she isn't going to use them?

I care for her. And I'm not just saying that because I someday hope to have the legal rights to her cadaver.

The first audiobook, The Weirdies, was an entertaining listen. I was curious to see if the next book would be better.

I didn't enjoy it as much as the first book. Sure, it was weirder like the title suggested but the story itself wasn't as good as the previous one. At times it felt like the story wasn't moving along at all and then suddenly, I was at the end. It was good to revisit the Weirdies world but I was expecting more from the sequel than what was delivered. Still much dark humour to gobble up but that was the only cool thing I found.

Kate is still an amazing narrator (she even did a southern US accent in this book which was great!) but I didn’t like the story of this one as much, so I’m giving it 3 stars. I assume there will be a third installment?

Not sure how this gets 4 stars. Who are these meant for? The "humor" is dark and adult driven (violent, horrific parents, genetic anomalies). The "plot" crossed a line between cute and ridiculous to absurd and annoying. They are saying the Weirdies grandfather built a mansion around a bank and no one noticed? Like the employees didn't notice the place they worked was now a mansion?, the people who, you know, had their money in the bank did not notice??? There are Titanic movie references (related to the whole door scene) that only an adult of a certain age would get (Kate Winslet is the narrator-get it! So not funny) but again the plot is not fantastical but ridiculous. My nephew and niece and I all hated this. The first one we thought, ah let's give the second a try (the weather was frigid over the holidays and I was looking to entertain them without their phones or computers). The only redeeming grace? It is super short. There are so many other examples of badness but will leave it there.

I was 3/4 of the way through this before I realized there was another one before it😂 but the author does a great job of laying out the scenes so it was easy to follow along. I initially thought that this would be similar to the Addams Family but it was definitely its own odd and unique story. I had been reading a very serious nonfiction book when I came across this series so it was very refreshing to listen to such a silly story. I absolutely adored Kate Winslet’s performance and many parts of the story, including the cheeky “door” reference, had me in stitches! I would gladly listen to this series again in the future but it’s too bad it’s only available on Audible because I’m positive my friends would love it!

This sequel to The Weirdlies was as much fun as the first. Kate Winslet performed both as Audible originals. The narrative is akin to “A Series of Unfortunate Events” series (of which I only read Bk 1 not because of disinterest, but lack of time or the timing of my decision to begin the series).
The three Weirdlie children, Barnacle, Melancoly, and Garlic, outwardly appear/and are “outsiders” in their community but they ultimately reveal their desire for a lot of what most children seek. Readers and other characters within the community learn from the children through outrageous encounters, heartfelt moments, zany characters and predilections that “normal” is a relative term.
I think children will love the books almost as much as this adult did and other adults will.

Repeating my review from book one with a small addition...Funny for adults & kids (I did this one on audible with a 10-year old boy). Just the right amount of ridiculous, silly, and sometimes gross humour for a kid. Kate Winslet does an excellent job with the different voices for different characters and as the "narrator" who, as a character, occasionally interjects her own story into the story. The narrator defending a woman on a door from a sinking ship & whether or not someone else should be allowed on the door or left to drown was such a good Titanic reference (which I had to explain to the 10 year old).

I actually find myself wishing there was a book 3.

The Weirdies Get Weirder — Michael Buckley; Narrator: Kate Winslet (Introduction + 12 chapters) Dec. 18, 2022

As the Weirdie triplets and Miss Emily are settling into the Dead-Eye Manor, remarkably, their parents come back to to get them which leads to a court appearance with an unfortunate ending… and a real cliffhanger!

I am loving these quick listens. Yes, it is aimed at the younger 9-12 crowd, but anyone who loves fantastical stories with present events sprinkled in will enjoy this series.

Five stars.

We listened to this audiobook on a long drive, and once again my children were buckled over with laughter and begging for more. Kate Winslet is a superb narrator (I imagine it would be hard for her to make even the dictionary being read aloud not sound entertaining)! Definitely some disgusting parts to the story and a bit dark humor (as most modern children’s stories seem to favor), but from ages 5-13 it captivated them. Hard to engage both boys and girls in that age range for over an hour without a screen.

These books are cute. I liked this second book better than the first, but they are both pretty good. This one had me lol more often.
The Weirdies parents are back and they want the kids back but not because they are a happy family. The weirdies don't want to go back to their parents and devise a plan to make enough money to fix the house, get out of debt and show the courts they are better off without their parents. Sounds awful but it is funny.

I thought this one was much funnier than the first. Mainly because of Kate Winslet being the narrator and the ensuing Titanic joke that just went right over my kids' heads. But also, as a Catholic, everytime I hear 'Our Lady of the Perpetual Side-eye' I laugh out loud.

Again, it's written in the style of Lemony Snicket meets The Addams Family, and is a little macabre, but that's part of why my kids and I like it.

The sequel to "The Weirdies" is exactly what you would expect if you read the first one... weird. Continuation of the story, without spoiling anything, Miss Emily and the triplets fight to keep their family together. With this comes more disasters, increased non-sense ,and more crazy antics. Overall this book is good... kinda like watching a dumpster fire, yet you cannot turn your head away. My children enjoyed it.

This one was… weird… We start where the first one set up: a meteor in the house. Weird. Then the guardian has a love story with a guy working on the opposite side of a lawsuit. Then crimes happen. And parents try to use their selfishness as an excuse why the kids aren’t flourishing. Only reason this kept me in is because i was constantly thinking “wtf??”

Even more bizarre than its predecessor, but funny still. Great for medium-length car trips or people with short attention spands. Recommended for fans of A series of Unfortunate Events. Kate Winslet's narration of the audiobook is epic; the story feels as though it was written specifically for her to read.
