Formbound learn the Hallowed Forms to strengthen the blood in their veins, infusing it with power so that they may shape the world to their whim.
Once a talented inner disciple of the Flawless Lotus Order, Rodek Al'Malkhir was slated to become a powerful Mender in his own right. Someone who could knit wounds with a thought, mend fractured bones with a touch and return the breath of life to those on death's door. Trained in combat, he was expected to deliver critical healing on and off the battlefield.
But that was another lifetime ago, when he could still wield Serum, the vital energy of the world. Now, he is broken.
All he wants to do is to heal and to help. Even if he has to do it the hard way.
I got strong Sun Wukong vibes from this one, which I’m sure is intentional. I enjoyed the MC and his regrow that of power, and the interaction as the book progresses between himself and his…benefactor…to avoid spoilers. The cultivation system is a little different and fun, and the overall story arc looks like it should lead to some cool stuff in the coming books.
So, the crux of this series appears that cultivators use elemental powers that they effectively channel through their blood.
So rather than Qi channels and whatnot, you use your actual veins, organs, bones, and blood vessels to channel “serum” the qi equivalent.
It’s very interesting, and this coupled by an early twist made for a very fun cultivation story with a strong style of its own. Worth a read, looking forward to book II.
Well written. An interesting design for a hero. A tale of quality that has a little room for improvement, but nicely done overall! I look forward to the next installment.
