Shadows of London #5.5

A Night at the Theatre

Rate this book
A night at the theatre with Alexander Kempthorne... what could possibly go wrong?

When Kempthorne asks Dom to join him for a night at the theatre, Dom can hardly refuse. He's fought mad shadow witches, insane ex-partners, and a whole lot of twitchy artefacts. How hard can schmoozing rich people be?

Of course, Kempthorne forgot to mention the King of England will be there.

It's all going well, until a suspect bomb is found and the spotlight falls on Dom.

Car chases, Tasers, and some back-room spice, Dom's not sure this is how a typical theatre trip goes. MI6, the London Metropolitan Police, and the king's personal security all want a piece of him.

If Dom has any chance of avoiding prison, he and Kempthorne must find the real would-be assassin before the curtain falls.

A Night at the Theatre is a Shadows of London novella that takes place after Without a Trace, Shadows of London #5. The series must be read in order.

I was provided an e-copy of the novella by the author in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

“I reckon I have the best murder husband in London.”

That was way too short. I still need more of Dom and Alex.

I was so happy when I learned that the author was working on a Dom and Kempthorne short story, and I was not disappointed. If you enjoyed the series, you will devour this short story. It's full of action, running around, sassy dialogues, humor, tension, and some sexy times. We can see how much Dom and Alex love each other and how they would do anything to protect each other. They are so intense, but so cute together. 💚

“I've got you.” My arms burned, my shoulders stretched, but letting go wasn't an option. I'd go over with him, if it came to it. “I've got you, and I'm never letting you go.”
His eyes widened, then he smiled, because it was going to be all right. He knew it, and so did I. If one of us fell, the other would always be there to catch him.

I MISSED DOM AND KEMPTHORNE SO MUCH. it's not an Ariana Nash couple if said couple still doesn't go through shit even in their own novella, but at least there's always a well deserved hea for them. 🥹🤍

"His eyes widened, then he smiled, because it was going to be all right. He knew it, and so did I. If one of us fell, the other would always be there to catch him."

What a perfect novella to finish off the Shadows of London series, by the wonderful Ariana Nash! It does need to be read after the 5 main books though, because A Night at the Theatre continues the Dom and Kempthorne action-packed chaos-fest, with a kidnapping, a life and death situation, the standard Dom wrongful arrest and of course some laughs and steamy theatre times thrown in for good measure.

Such a fun read and another great book to add to the Nash collection.

Of course it's 5 stars.

Fantastic. Bravo to the author for a story that was practically perfect in every way. My only wish was for it have been longer, because this didn’t fully sate the hunger I have for Kempthorne and Dom. I just hope and pray Ariana Nash’s muse insists on further adventures with our hot and wily duo.

This was the complete package of mystery, peril, action, steam and smooshy lovey-dovey feels. The quintessential glimpse into our heroes lives post trick. To fully understand and appreciate this book it needs to be read AFTER book #4 of the Shadows of London series. Do yourself a huge favour and, if you haven’t already done so, read that series stat.

Dom and Kempthorne’s chemistry is undeniable, and they will always have a place in my heart. You can tell Ariana respects her readers and her characters, with how she gives us a full-blown, heart-racing adventure in a novella, and, of course, hot and sexy scenes.

Damn I missed Dom and Kempthorne and all the crazy shenanigans they get into. This novella gives us a fun glimpse into married life post latent curing and let me tell you folks, not much has changed. And seriously, only Kempthorne could plan a lovely date night that goes this awry. Is there anyone from the past that doesn't wanna see one of these loveable knuckleheads dead? Hold my wine, I'll wait....

How else could a series like that end? 😂

Only Dom and Alex could manage to turn a 'harmless' visit to the theatre into chaos and mayhem.
Loved the idea of Dom in a tux, of Alex being a vindictive ba****d with a heart and finding everyone in this universe kind of content and happy.

I still would have liked more on how the monumental changes happening at the end of book 5 effected latents and their status in society, even though latents are no more.

A lovely extended epilogue and definitely worth reading if you have finished the series.

Basically, I just want to key smash over how much I loved this novella, and this whole series, and Dom and Kempthorne. The scene at the end is responsible for spontaneously combusting me, I'm just saying. And now I want to re-read the entire series. Again.

A Night at the Theatre is the new Novella with Kempthorne and Dom’s date night. Never a dull moment for these two! Alex takes Dom to a date at the theater, but to Dom’s surprise he is going to meet the King, poor Dom he is about to get treated as a suspect in the attempt to kill the king. These two never get to have a normal date. I love the way these two show each other’s their feelings, their shenanigans are always entertaining and full of action, cars chased, MI6 and the police trying to catch them, life saving moments and of course hot and steamy Alex and Dom scenes!!! I adore these two and I happy to have a little more of them!!

Hooray for more Dom and Kempthorne

Hooray for more Dom and Kempthorne! I was delighted when the author revealed another story in this world and this was a perfect novella length look at their HEA.
It doesn't sugar-coat anything. Due to their pasts, Dom and Kempthorne will always have complicated lives, but their bond is unshakeable! I adore this couple and the lengths they will go to in order to protect each other.
Plenty of action and steam. I enjoyed every second of it

“All that stuff you said…” he began.
“I meant every single word.”
“Yeah, I figured as much.”
He rubbed the ring on his finger. “I reckon I have the best murder husband in London.”
I laughed softly. “Refrain from letting the police hear that.”

i'm not ready to say goodbye 🥺🥺

“To be fair, you’ve pissed off a lot of people over the years. You can’t be expected to remember them all,” I said.
“If that’s a joke, it’s not amusing.”
“Yeah, but you’re smiling so…”

Luckily, at least for us, Dom and Alex can’t be more than 10 seconds without being in the middle of some trouble. Being married won’t stop them from being once again persecuted and trying to solve whatever is hunting them this time. I really enjoy this type of novellas that show us a little bit more of the couples after the main series ends. Dom and Alex are closer than they've ever been, understanding that some habits are hard to break. I really loved reading about them again and hope we see more glances of their domestic life in the future.

Even though I know that giving someone a second chance doesn't always work out the way you hope... you still have to try!

This short story was as action-packed as the first five books and I can't find a thing to complain about... praise, YES... but NO complaints!

I had missed Alex and John so much. They're one of my all time favorite couples. Okay, I really can't pick one of Ariana Nash's main couples. They're all just so good. But it was so nice to read more of Alex and John.

This was the perfect little update in a very Alex and Dom story. Short, but full of whodunit and danger, we see as always, these two may not be good all the time, but are still such fun.

“He’s so into you.”
“He had better be. Seein’ as we’re married.”

I want so badly to like this series but the fact that these two can never get a happy moment is making me rate it one less star. Is it really to much to just give us one short with a happy plot?

Anyway, except for the mess Dom and Alex always seem to get themselves into it was a well written and interesting story to conclude this series. I can really recommend!

No Trick? No Problem.

Dom and Kempthorne are back and in trouble like always. But nothing stops the guys from getting themselves out of the trouble they find themselves in, or getting that sexy alone time they deserve.

I received a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Wow, what a perfect send off for Dom and Kempthorne. But I don't expect anything less from Nash. Her novellas always hit it out of the park. This novella was a lot more action packed than I thought it would be, but that's honestly just foreplay for Dom and Alex. It was nice jumping back into the series and seeing the two be so cute together. Also the sex scenes are hot. I grinned every time John or Alex referred to each other as 'husband'. We get an action packed romp through the theatre as someone is trying to frame Dom for planting a bomb to kill the king. At this point, who hasn't tried to frame Dom for something? Dude is a magnet for trouble. It was nice seeing Kempthorne and Co back in action again. The dialogue, as always, was deliciously witty. All in all, this novella encapsulates everything we love about the series. The last book wrapped up too hastily, in my opinion, so this felt like a perfect epilogue to say one final goodbye to our boys. Definitely a must read if you love the series.

Encore

On this day and every day, I am thankful for Dom and Alex. I freaking love these two so much and have been bouncing up and down that we get more of them in this sensational novella.

“‘You owe me for this, Kempthorne.’
‘I am aware you’ll make me pay. Consequently, I’m rather looking forward to it.’”

They make my life complete in all the ways: some British snark, some sexy mayhem that only Dom and Alex seem to attract, more snark peppered with the best kind of humor, and that oh so powerful and passionate love they have that threads through each and every moment with them. Or as I like to fondly think of it, the mess-with-mine-and-I’ll-mess-you-up type of love. I can’t resist it nor Alex and Dom, and I love the way reading about these two leaves me feeling. They’re swoony, exciting, and are the best way to start and end a day. The only thing better than Dom and Alex is even more Dom and Alex.

I was so excited to see this novella in this universe because I so love Dom and Kempthorne. They are such a cute couple whose neuroses complement each other. Not only that, but they are also so devoted to each other, and it makes my heart sing. Ok, enough of that, let’s talk novella. This was a fun little troublesome adventure brought on by someone in the past. It is fun, action-filled, and it highlights their new circumstances and how they have to be more creative to get what they need…don’t want to spoil the events of the series. Loved catching up with them. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

A Night at the Theatre is a novella giving us glimpse into Kempthorne and Dom’s date night. Alex takes Dom to the theater, but Dom gets a little uptight when he’s informed that the King will be there. But as soon as they step in, Dom is treated suspect. A bomb is found, and Dom is treated as if he planted it. Freakin fantastic, non-stop action and adventure, life saving elements, MI6 and the London Police. Old friends help Alex clear Dom’s name. True love, hot and steamy, spicy make this a phenomenal, page turning read. Well written, couldn’t stop reading pacing!
