Midlife Spirits #11

Spell Binding

Rate this book
I’ve just learned firsthand that the grass definitely isn’t greener on the other side…

Waking up as the infamous voodoo queen, Guarda? Well, let’s just say this is easily the worst day of my life.

I have no idea how old Guarda actually is but with the way her body aches all over, the fact that I can barely walk, and there’s something that keeps clicking in her hips? I’d guess she’s around 2,000.

All of that aside, I need to figure out how to undo Guarda’s spell like yesterday so I can get back into my own body (which Guarda’s spirit is currently occupying) and then try to devise a plan to stop her for good.

Only problem? Well, actually, there are a few problems:

* Everyone believes I’m Guarda (hey, seeing is believing, I guess)
* Ryan is also possessed by some entity with glowing eyes
* Whoever is inside Ryan is also Guarda’s partner in crime
* Did I mention my hips keep clicking?
* I have like three days to stop Guarda from keeping my body forever
* My only ally is the untrustworthy witch, Angharad, who happens to be stuck inside a polaroid photo

I couldn’t make this stuff up if I tried…

I’m a huge fan of anything paranormal and I always have been. I get super excited whenever they have those Twilight Zone Marathon days and anything ghost or vampire related will always attract my attention.

My interests are varied but aside from writing, I’m most excited about traveling. I’m extremely fortunate to have been able to live in England and Scotland, both places really having a profound effect on my books.

Thanks for checking out my books and I hope you enjoy them! Happy Haunting!

I wish it was longer

Ok, so first I was a little Frustrated because this book was so short and we waited so long for it to come out. Than as I started to read it I got even more frustrated because she keep rehashing everything that happened in the previous books. I felt like she was just trying to fill the pages up on this book. We have read all 9 of the other books so we know everything that happened Already. But overall this final book was pretty good. I love this series I wish it can go on forever but fortunately all good things come to an end.

Fantastic ending to this wild and spooky series

This is book 11, the final book in the Midlife Spirits series; a Paranormal Women’s Fiction series of novels from HP Mallory. The book is set in the present day in the Garden District of New Orleans, USA.

I’ve really enjoyed reading this series. The character development throughout the series has been fantastic. We have seen the main characters grow and change as a result of their experiences. The world building is immersive and wonderfully written. The whole series is filled with different types of magic, from different cultural backgrounds. I loved reading about the Voodoo Loa and the practices associated with that culture and religion.

This book wraps the series up and ends on a positive note. There is magic. There is suspense. There is action and drama. There are cemeteries and ghosts. The love triangle is resolved. To top it all off, there’s a really cute puppy. What more could you want in a book?

I’m a little sad to say goodbye to Peyton and Drake. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the wild and sometimes spooky ride that the last eleven books have taken me on.

The reading order for this series is as follows:

Book 1: Afraid of the Dark
Book 2: A Ghost of a Chance
Book 3: Mischief Brewing
Book 4: Bump in the Night
Book 5: Bone Voyage
Book 6: Deadly Intentions
Book 7: Ghostly Gathering
Book 8: Magic in the Night
Book 9: Making Spirits Bright
Book 10: Hauntingly Happy
Book 11: Spell Binding

All good things must come to a end. This is the last book in this wonderful series. In this book we get a bang of a ending. Payton has found herself in a real mess. Can she convince everyone that she is who she is or is she going to be stuck in the voodoo queens body/life forever? You are in for a feelings ride trying to figure everything out. Love was another factor here. I think she ended up with who she was meant to be with. There was some rocky spots in there relationship but they pulled it all together at the end. All in all a great mid-life read.

I would have liked to give this series a 4, but there were many continuity issues that prevented it. These are the things that really pull me out of the story.
Chief among them were dates. You can't have one of the characters die in 1919, return to the 1910's then in another book refer to their trip in the 1920's.
It started in 2014 and although it is mentioned many times that the female lead has only been in NOLA for a few months, as the story progresses it is 2018 and 2022. That was just very disconcerting.
Also grammar, spelling and punctuation issues. Check your commas and sentence fragments.

Onto the story. This is a continuing storyline, which makes it different and I liked it. Not sure I would want every series to do this but it worked. It also helped that it is complete and I could go right to the next book. Each one picked up where the previous one left off. I enjoyed the characters and hope one of them finally gets their HEA. It made me a little sad.

If you can deal with errors then you should enjoy the series.

Spell Binding is the final book in the Midlife Spirits series by HP Mallory. After an epic battle within the home of current voodoo queen Guarda, Peyton wakes up not quite herself. In fact, when she looks in the mirror, she’s definitely not herself. The reflection looking back at her is not Peyton’s face. Guarda’s face is looking back at her. Now Peyton must figure out how to convince her friends and loved ones that Guarda has somehow switched bodies and that the Peyton currently in her home is not who they think she is before irreparable harm occurs.

While I’m sad to see the Midlife Spirits series end, the author gave the series a wonderful finale. Filled with anxious moments, action, and deception, Spell Binding is a satisfying conclusion to the Petyon Clark series. I love, and will miss, all the complex characters. As with the rest of the stories in the series, Spell Binding is engaging, fast paced, and I couldn’t put the book down.

SLOPPY!!! Story continuity issues plague this whole series. Peyton has no family . . . She has a cousin she last saw at a family reunion . . . Her cousin is now her niece. Peyton is in her 40s . . . No, 20s . . . No, 40s again. Plus the lapses from not knowing something to instantly knowing it, and then later learning it for the first time. Spelling mistakes. Punctuation errors.

Honestly, if you can gloss over and ignore the above, the story itself is fun, and quite entertaining. It's a pity no one bothered to seriously proof the series before releasing each book.

What a great finale!

Yes, I’m sad this series is over, but what a ride! I felt it in my heart, I truly did! Twists and turns keep coming and Peyton has some challenges to overcome! No spoilers from me though. Just read for yourself. Great book!

Peyton is back and man she is in a pickle this time. Peyton wakes up in Guarda's body and doesn't remember what happened to make this happen, she has three days to get her body back and stop Guarda for good. But first she needs to get the witch Angharad out of the polaroid and second figure out who is possessing Ryan third get everyone to believe that it is her in Guarda's body. All in a day's work for Peyton.
Peyton and the gang are back and honestly funnier than ever. Peyton has a lot on her plate this time around. She needs to fight and fight hard because she has so much riding on this. She has really grown up and come into her own throughout this series. She has been one of my favourite characters and I loved how she has become the strong woman that we all hoped she would be. We also get a few of the crew from the Haven Hollow series. Poppy, Wanda and the gang make a cameo in the book which is always so much fun.
I can't believe that this is the last book in Peyton's story. I really liked this series, and I loved the way the characters had developed and grew throughout. It was a fast read; I sat down and got it read in an evening and laughed and had tears the closer I got to the end of the book. There were a few moments in the book that I felt kind of slowed the flow down just a little. Overall, I loved this book and Peyton ended up with the right guy at the end, which I was really happy about and I am not going to tell you who, you have to read that for yourself. Spirits

I like the plot. I did not like it that it took three books to the end. It is an entertaining book.

What an intriguing conclusion to this series! I loved the crossover with Poppy and Wanda from Haven's Hollow. Peyton gets the support she needs from old friends and new ones. And she is able to help her ex-boyfriend and gain understanding. This is one of my favorite books in the series.

Peyton and Drake have been some of Mallory's staple characters for a while.. it feels like forever since I read book one. The ending in this series does not disappoint. Readers will def be satisfied. I'm sad to see them go but I feel like Mallory did them justice.
