The Drift: Haven Colony #5

Her Cyborg Rangers

Rate this book
She dreamed of escaping Earth one day—but she never imagined the price she’d pay to be free.

Jade was a cyber-jockey. Emphasis on the word was. Now, she isn’t sure who she is or what she wants to do with her new life.

No one else seems to know what to do with her either, including the two sexy cyborgs who are never far from her side, but always just out of her reach.

Cyborgs. Batch-brothers. Survivors. They thought they were prepared for anything. Then, they found her.

Wreckage and Ruin thought settling down would be simple, but living a quiet life has its own challenges.

The new ranger program might be just what they need, but it’s not all they want. Drawn to Jade since the day they rescued her from mercenaries, they’re trying to give her the time she needs to heal… and the space they need to keep their secret.

Three broken souls with the power to heal each other—if only they can let go of the past and trust in a future big enough for three.

Cyber trio!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 🤎🖤💜💙
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: ☺️🥲😚🥰

The heroine: Jade - she had been one of the best cyber-jockeys in the known systems until corporate backed mercenaries caught her and held her prisoner. They ripped out her implants and which had allowed her to easily interact with machines with just a thought. They also left her with physical scars and panic attacks that could be triggered by something as small as loud noises. However, she was free, and she has a temporary job at the only human run tavern on Haven colony on the planet Liberty, the wild west of space. She fixes and upgrades the bar droids as best she could without having her implants.

The Heroes: Wreckage and Ruin - They are cyborgs and batch brothers. Cyborgs were created by humans to fight their wars. Wreckage and Ruin have already had a lifetime of war and they were confined to Reamus station for a time. Now that they were free, they like the forest outside of Haven for their home. They have already built a log cabin but are now working on expanding it, to give them more room for the winter. They knew they were hiding, but they have a secret and want to keep it hidden.

The Story: Wreckage and Ruin were the ones who rescued Jade from the mercs. Since then, they have looked over her and protected her. They have been waiting for her to heal from her ordeal, but in the meantime, they know they want her for themselves, though she doesn’t know that. They try to stay away as much as possible and give her time, but they are growing restless. They have also recently become Rangers and divide their time between training, patrolling and mapping the areas around the colony.

Jade feels that Wreck and Ruin think of her as a little sister. Though she dreams of having them both as hers, she thinks it will never happen. So, when she is offered a new job working on the cybersecurity of the planet, she accepts. Though she can no longer plug right in to the data sphere, she is able to work with a holographic interface and get things done in a more manual way, though not quite as old school as manually coding via a keyboard, it still isn’t her preferred method of interface. Though having surgery for a new implant could be dangerous or deadly. Jade was given her choice of locations to work at, either off planet, on the hub (an orbital platform circling Liberty) or at the palace. If she chooses off-planet, then Wreck and Ruin won’t be able to protect her or romance her.

This was the first book in this series that I have read, and I liked it quite a bit. I loved that the story takes place on a new planet in the outer reaches of space and that there are many different species of aliens there along with humans and cyborgs. I also liked the fact that Jade is a bit broken but trying to put her life back together as best she can, despite the fact that her ability to do what she loved doing has been pretty much taken away from her. I also liked that Wreck and Ruin are so protective of Jade but haven’t been pushing her to heal faster than she was ready.

2.5/5 rounding up I guess

I honestly don't get the point of bonded male pairs that have to find a female together but have absolutely ZERO ⚔️⚔️⚔️?? Like what is the point if they don't hook up a little too?! Idk they call themselves brothers and act like it but why share a girl then? And also be super close??? Then they're just bros, it's weird to me and low-key a waste.

Idk this was boring, and one dimensional. Nothing special. I was trying to get a little backstory before starting the book I actually wanted to read in this series, but I'm calling it now and quitting. These are just to meh to spend any more time on.

This was a great read and I really liked Jade with Wreck and Ruin...and I love their names. Lol! These two cyborgs thought to give her time to heal after they rescued her from the mercenaries but she was done with them thinking she was a friend only. She certainly didn't want to watch them fall for some other gal... When they learned she was thinking of leaving, they knew they had to step up their game ;P All three of these characters came with baggage and, together, they really healed each other. There is more than romance in this book, though, so follow along with the over arching plot with intrigue and a cast of characters that you'll want to call friends. I really enjoyed how this romance unfolded and can't wait for the next book :D

The perfect sandwich

These guys may be named after destruction, but they only want to create. A perfect home, a perfect community, and most of all a beautiful existence for their cyber jockey filling. As luck would have it she is also on the hunt for peace, now if only they would stop getting their wires crossed they might be the next perfect thruple out of Haven. That’s if the bad guys don’t cut down their numbers first. Fast-paced and action packed, this book is exactly what I expect to see from the author. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Love it! Jade is a cyber Jockey even though she had most of her cyber portals damaged when she had been captured when she first cot to Haven last year. She is really missing her cyber sanctuary. She has been on a very hard decision of whether to get her cyber implants repaired or stay as she is. It could be dangerous to do. So she is undecided. Wreck & Ruin the 2 cyborgs who live in the forest away from the colony watch over her & try to stay near. They are trying to give her a little time to heal until they ask her if she would like to go out with them. The Princess is a cyber jockey herself but since her baby in near, her mates want her to be where they can keep her more protected when they tell everyone they are going to let the child stay as a hybrid, not change it's DNA & make it a pureblood. There are some stuck up people who don't think royalty should be that way. So she recruits Jade, who has the cyber skills, to help scan the cyber data sphere & find out what is in their system disrupting things. She can do it here or up on the Hub, out in space. When the guys hear about it, they decide they better get to asking Jade if she would like to try to be with them before they lose her for good. She agrees & decides to the job in the palace. That way they can be together. Ruin has some mood swings that get triggered by crowded areas with too many people. Princess Phaedra has set Jade up with a great holographic way to see the cyber data. it is not exactly like just hooking up & jacking in but it's better than nothing. After a few days of searching she notices some things that don't look right but she doesn't want to mention it to the team yet. She notice when the Princess made her announcement about the baby one of the team didn't look to happy. She is suspicious about if he is the one who let this thing into their system. Wreck & Ruin have been doing a lot of one-on-one with her since Ruin would rather stay out in the forest. She thinks there is something they are not telling her but doesn't know what. She takes Wreck to her work room, she hooks them both up to the holographic data sphere so she can sort of show him, what her world in there is like. He is really surprised by what be sees. There is a new doctor who has knowledge about how to repair her cyber unit. She makes an appointment & Wreck goes with her. The doctor does some tests & the odds of her making it are a lot better. She wants to do it, but needs to talk to Wreck & Ruin first since they are together now. When they get to the Bar None, Ruin is already there & edgy. Thrash, another cyborg is getting kind of crude making comments when they get ready to start something, she comments how much they look alike. Ruin tries to deny it & practically drags her out of the bar. When she gets him to stop they get into an argument & she wants to be left alone. They go home, she calls Maggie to come over, she talks to her for a while & says she's going to do it. She calls the doctor & makes the appointment. The next day the guys have their communication systems shut down so they can think. They decide to go talk to Jade. They find out she got the procedure done but something went wrong. They go to the med center. When Jade wakes up, she finds out during the procedure whatever is in their system tried to kill her 4 times. After she rests the next day they will start her cyber system up. She goes home with the guys & wants to know what the problem was. They tell her about how they were used to create more cyborgs after the labs had been destroyed & Trash was one of their sons. That's why they stay away from everyone & hide behind their beards. Since they couldn't escape & protect them, they failed them. If they found out, both of them would be hated for sure. She tells them none of that was there fault. They were prisoners as well & had no control over what happened. The next day they went to the palace to hook up like she used to. They go & the doctor helps her get every thing ready. Ruin gets ready, he is going to go in with her, like Wreck did before. When they both go in he sees why she missed it so much, it is astounding! He wants to know how to protect her if he has no weapons. She shows him. If he wants something just imagine it, he will have it. They find where the rogue data got in, she starts to destroy it. The AI that tried to kill her before comes to protect itself. Ruin sees something off to the side & tells her. He nails it with his weapon. It comes again & he deflects it with a shield. She is about done with it when he starts really fighting with it. She tells him she got it & tells him to get away from it. That's all he sees. Then Wreck & Jade are in the med center waiting for him to wake up. Thrash comes in wanting to know why they look so alike before Ruin dies. They tell him he isn't going to die & Wreck finally tells him everything. When Ruin wakes up he is not happy Wreck told everyone while he was out but is happy to be there with them. They have a more open social attitude & by spring their house is almost totally done over by the help they receive by the rest of the family they find. I like it!

A space throuple…

But not just any triad but a relationship between two battle-hardened cyborgs and a world-battered, tech-enhanced human. I mean, what could possibly go wrong? Other than unknown enemies trying to devastate their new home. Just a bit of that…

This series continues with much-loved characters returning and others getting their full stories told. Jade was a warrior in her own right but with Wreck and Ruin (what great names, right?) by her side she was able to face her fears and her worries with that much strength. I loved how she was able to do the same for her new partners. The baggage they all three carried could fill a cargo hold but it wasn’t too dark. Instead it added a very human element to an out of world-ly romance…

Their story was deliciously awkward and tentative - as any courtship could be. At the same time it was sweet and funny, oh so steamy with a dash of suspense thrown in for good measure. All in all, it made for a too quick but delightful read in this series.

*I happily reviewed this story

Double the Cyborgs, Double the Fun

During the mission to rescue Jade and Maggie, Jade's cyber implants were ripped out of her body by the Mercenaries that abducted Jade. A Cyber-Jockey without her implants was like having her limbs removed. During her healing, she was watched over by cyborg brothers Wreckage and Ruin. Jade was feeling lost without her implants, but Princess Phaedra did a fantastic job recreating the experience of being in cyberspace where Jade discovered an anomaly. It might have been something the Gray Men got into Haven Colony's system, but without her implants, she couldn't go into the system deep enough. Jade needed her implants back. In the meantime, Wreckage and Ruin decided to court Jade. Those guys acted like an old married couple, which Jade found amusing.
There were no shootouts in this story. Most of the danger was in cyberspace. Except for the rock claws and bark spiders.
This was another good story in the series. I recommend not skipping any of them because they build off of the previous stories.

An interesting read with some intrigue along with the romance between Jade and her two Cyborg rescuers, Wreckage and Ruin. The story is interconnected with the others in the series and would be best enjoyed after reading the prior books. I’ve read the first books in the series, but not the most recent books series so did have a slight issue with some of the backstory being mentioned.

The relationship between Jade and her
two cyborgs is a little rocky as Wreckage and Ruin don’t have an easy time communicating their feelings, even with each other. Jade is a feisty human woman who is desperate to regain her cybernetic connection to the datasphere where she feels most herself.

The story includes some intrigue that is a storyline arc across the series.

I received a free ARC from the author and Elle Woods PR; and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.

Once a cyber jockey always a cyber jockey...right?? That is what Jade thought. That was until it was all taken away from her and she has to move forward as a normal person. Talk about thrown for a loop. Wreckage and Ruin watch over Jade but from a distance. They are broken and of course don't know what to do about Jade. Time... time will heal everything... right? Well they are now out of time when Jade gets a chance to be back in the cyber world and has choices to make. Oh I love the drama that plays out with these three. Communication would help but by now we all know that the cyborg males are all alpha and not big on communicating. They all need to get over their pasts in order to move forward. To become more than friends and to protect not only Jade but the entire colony.

I fraxing loved this book and I am ready for more!

Angsty romance, Conspiracies, and imaginative sci-fi…

Cyborgs coming to live in Haven Colony definitely have emotional baggage. The human women that come there do also, but something about Haven gives them all hope. The storytelling draws you into the lives of this mishmash society of aliens, humans, and cyborgs and their fight to have a new world where they all get along. A lot of them are rebels and Jade could be considered one too as a hacker or cyber-jockey. But she has been disabled and lonely, if only the two cyborgs who seem to be her protectors would be more. Wreckage and Ruin have their own problems. They don’t like crowds feel less than because of their past but they are drawn to Jade. And that’s just part of the story. I got so wrapped up I read it in one sitting.

I liked the setup of Jade thinking her cyborgs only wanted to be friends while they were trying to give her space before making their move, and the push they needed to admit their feelings. I personally would have liked a little more angst at that point, but there was plenty later in the story. I appreciated the way they all recognized that each of them has PTSD and needs grace for mistakes, and that they each owned their goof-ups. I liked that they spent time all together, as well as one on one, each drawing on their preferences to find situations they'd enjoy. The plot of the ending didn't make a ton of sense to me, but I skipped the previous book that I think set it up. I liked how the climax brought them all closer together and made use of their skills.

This story has a mix of action, intrigue, humour, romance and steamy scenes!  I loved the banter between Wreckage and Ruin, and how they both relate to Jade. The world building is excellent, as are the secondary characters. I enjoyed the products of the author's imagination, especially the animals on this world, the other beings besides humans, and the idea of implants that allow people to interact with cyberspace without needing a keyboard. The book was easy to read and I was sad when I finished it! I would definitely like to read more by Susan Hayes.

great book!

This is the 5th book in The Drift: Haven Colony series by Susan Hayes. It features cyborg rangers, Wreckage and Ruin and their love interest, Jade. Jade is a cyber-jockey who had her cranial implant severely damaged. The guys have held back acting on their interest in Jade. They thought she needed to heal after her ordeal. They changed their minds when they realized she might be leaving Haven. Between the secrets they are hiding, her need for a dangerous surgery and some cyber danger lurking you will not be able to put this book down! I devoured it in one sitting and loved it!

Susan Hayes has done it again with this engaging read, an addition to her Drift Haven Colony series. We finally get a book about Jade, one of my favorite characters. She survives torture and abuse from mercenaries but still keeps fighting for a life minus her cyber implants. Her original rescuers, Wreckage and Ruin, have waited to claim her but is it too late? Her life on the colony is about to change when her cyborg admirers step up to woo her. They are all broken but they find a way to heal each other. Download and spend an afternoon in the Haven.

An intriguing story!
Jade is a cyberjockey too damaged to be fully effective in that world. Her cyborgs, Wreckage and Ruin, are guilt-ridden. This quote says it all: “Three broken souls with the power to heal each other—”
I love Jade and her tenacity, her determination to find the life-threatening intruder in the system. Wreckage and Ruin are a bit slow letting her know how they feel, but when they do - the heat rises quickly! Excellent reading, as these three seek resolutions to their problems and find true love.

This story is of Jade and her cyborgs- Wreckage and Ruin. She has wanted them forever and they just seem to be near to protect her. Wreck and Ru agree- Jade is the one but they are waiting to make a move till after she's healed.
I really love this story so full of angst, a secret, danger, hope, fumbles with courting and oh so much steam. Susan's world building drew me right in and her characters are so realistic that I was a part of the story. Fast paced and an easy read. Grab your favorite beverage and settle in. This one is good.

Wreckage and Ruin almost live up to their name in the romance department. They want Jade but feel she isn’t ready and want to give her time. Needless to say they didn’t let her in on it and she thought they didn’t want her.

Jade struggles emotionally and physically from being take captive by mercenaries. The best thing to come from it was Wreck and Ru. They have their own struggles with the secret they are trying to keep from the other cyborgs. Luckily Jade is there to straighten them out!

I quickly found myself fully immersed and deeply invested in this story. Jade, Wreckage and Ruin were all likable characters, and I could sympathize with each of them. The chemistry between them is very easy to feel and the heat they generate lush. A well-crafted combination of drama, action, emotion, steam and intrigue fuels the engaging storyline and will have you eager to keep those pages turning. I am electing to post a candid review.

Another great read by SH. It is a fun, romantic, well written addition to the Haven Colony series.

Jade, Wreckage, and Ruin are SO wonderful together. Three broken people trying to piece themselves back together, and yes, love DOES conquer all in this HEA.

Jade's having a bit of an identity crisis. She had her life torn apart when her implants were ripped from her body, leaving her wondering about her place in the world now that she can't be a cyber jockey any longer.

Wreck and Ruin have an enormous secret they're keeping from the other cyborg residents of Haven. A secret they desperately don't want out.

Find out how these three overcome their problems, together. There are the typical misunderstandings between people newly developing a relationship, but there are also sweet moments, and there are definitely some smoking hot ones too.

Jade gave up a part of herself in a violent way. She is learning to be who she is meant to be. Wrechage and Ruin have seen the terrible cost Jade has paid. and find that she is amazing and they want her. Cyborgs don't give up when it comes to what they want. Batch Brothers with a little PTSD who are amazing. a human woman who finds acceptance from them and accepts them as they are. another amazing Drift story!!

Jade is a human who escaped the hellscape that is Earth and eventually ended up broken but still fighting on Haven, Cyborgs Wreckage and Ruin know that Jade is the one for them but are giving her time to heal. The time has come to fish or cut bait.
Watching these three get together is painfully funny. A terrific addition to the series.

More Trouble with the Gray Men!!!

Great series!!! Wreckage and Ruin have a secret. They live in the woods away from all the others. They have been watching after their woman for months. They do finally admit their attraction and begin to date. They hit a couple of rough patches but they work it out. Loved it.

Love these guys. They are so messed up. Keeping secrets to the extent they are hiding from everyone so it can't get out. They are so ashamed the cannot even admit they love Jade. The thing about secrets though, they don't stay buried.

Her Cyborg Rangers

Jade is a new addition to the Haven planet and is recovering from being stripped of most of her cyberdata ports. She has a waitress/service bot repair person and has two cyborg self appointed bodyguards most shifts. It is sweet.

As if space travel isn't vast enough now they are traveling in cyber space which could be just as vast. Wreckage and Ruin's genetic reveal gave them all an instant genetic family from a totally new point of view.
