From USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author of the Rixon Raider series, comes a brand new sports romance series. Lakeshore U, where hockey is religion, and the players are gods. Are you ready to fall in love with a Laker?
When Ella Henshaw agrees to attend the annual Bite the Ice party at Laker House with her best friend, she knows it's a bad idea. Especially, since it’s a hockey party and she swore off hockey players a long time ago.
Enter Connor Morgan.
Handsome. Confident. With enough persistence to wear down even the most stubborn heart, he’s determined to win over the girl he hurt in freshman year.
When he finds Ella at his team’s annual Halloween party, it’s his opportunity to finally make his move.
He’s the hockey player who broke her heart. She’s the girl he let slip through his fingers.
But can Connor persuade Ella to give him one more chance?
Or will she always be his biggest regret?
* Bite the Ice is a standalone prequel story in the Lakeshore U series.
L A COTTON is USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author of over forty mature young adult and new adult novels, LA COTTON is happiest writing the kind of books she loves to read: addictive stories full of teenage angst, tension, twists and turns.
Home is a small town in the middle of England where she currently juggles being a full-time writer with being a mother/referee to two little people. In her spare time (and when she’s not camped out in front of the laptop) you’ll most likely find LA immersed in a book, escaping the chaos that is life.
L A loves connecting with readers, and you can find her at:
my super intelligent and intellectual self didn’t realize this was in fact a novella, so when I was on page 30 and they were mid sex scene I had to take a minute to sit in aghast before finally realizing… this is an 80 page book. and that’s when I realized, this isn’t the first book in the series.. this was 0.5
and I don’t care, because it goes towards my reading goal.
but it’s safe to say I have no interest in reading the actual series..
Warning: This book and my review of it contain discussion of sexual material.
Bite the Ice is a second chance romance following a hockey player who fumbled his true love when he got cold feet after a night together with her. This book sounded like it would be cute, but I honestly just wanted to be done with this book as soon as I started reading it.
I’ll start with the one positive first: the pacing of this story was really nice. The pacing made the story addictive and fun.
Now onto the bad, but I’ll refrain from turning this into too long of a rant since this book was only a short novella.
The characters only cared about sex and this book’s whole purpose is just for two characters to make love to each other. I need more chemistry and actual romance in my books, but this one felt like all lust. Furthermore, the other characters were giving the two main characters a hard time for not being laid in a while. I was uncomfortable with the side characters doing that because not only is it not wrong for people to not have sex all the time (hello, I’m literally ace), but it also felt like the characters were trying to pressure the two main characters to have sex.
Then there’s the whole issue of Connor who is a walking red flag. Connor starts getting physical with Ella and pressures her into things despite her saying no to his advances. Later in the story, Connor also reveals that he practically stalked Ella and knows wayyyyy too much about her. It felt like he was an unhinged ex who no girl should be around.
The later books in this series might be better, but Bite the Ice wasn’t for me and I don’t think I’ll be reading more books by this author.
I recently went to my first Hockey Game and got in the mood for some Hockey Romances (I didn't even know we had those in Germany)
This one sat on my Kindle because it was for free around Halloween, and I have the unhealthy habit of purchasing freebies left and right 😅 (So I can potentially get the audiobook for cheaper. Here’s a tip no one asked for. You’re welcome 😂)
Because this is a Novella, the story felt pretty rushed, but it was a good and steamy introduction to this new series.
⥼~-✰-~⥽ ☽ ˚•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙˚*☾ ⥼~-✰-~⥽ .𖥔 ݁ ˖༘⋆𐦍⊹₊.𖥔. ."𝙼𝚊𝚢𝚋𝚎 𝚝𝚘𝚗𝚒𝚐𝚑𝚝 𝚠𝚒𝚕𝚕 𝚋𝚎 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝚕𝚞𝚌𝚔𝚢 𝚗𝚒𝚐𝚑𝚝, 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚢𝚘𝚞'𝚕𝚕 𝚎𝚗𝚍 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝚍𝚛𝚢 𝚜𝚙𝚎𝚕𝚕.".𖥔 ݁. ˖༘⋆𐦍⊹₊.𖥔 ݁ ˚ ┊✦I totally forgot to read these small novellas before hand reading book 1 but oh well 🤣🤭 this book was just so effin cute The way I screamed in my head that we had a Connor and Ella pov I loved them as side character in book 1 So much!! Though I do minds which their pov was much longer to have juicy banter.
I loved how even despite there differences meeting back together after 2 years apart they saw each other again at a Halloween party they have definitely got steamy hot history together without revealing spoilers god it was a dick move.
˚ ┊ ✦Connor I lovedddd Connor I loved his banter and attitude even though it was so cocky at times but you kinda figured that out with his true love left his life his world went tits up sleeping with anyone he got hold off but he knows deep down nothing beats Ella. He missed that opportunity. But I did feel so sus about Connor like giving those stalker vibes that can’t let his true love go and be happy 😭
˚ ┊ ✦ Ella Ella was such a funny cute shy character though I do admire her courage though she knows what she wants in life and she gets it especially when it came to Connor when he fucked up with her to say they were still in college not ready to settle down but she was still so heartbroken how things ended never forgave him which girl I don’t blame you at all it was so mean 😭😭
˚┊✦ Romance - Epilogue The romance of this was just so cute to say it was short novella wish it could’ve been longer for these two have their moment to shine more but good god the scenes were steamy 🥵
At first I don’t know what to quiet enjoy the writing but it was easy to read and fast pace but there was also bit slow burn aswell in middle but that’s always the same when it came to romance hockey players.
This book needed something more I don’t know what it was but these two deserved a bigger page book like it felt too rushed for them to finally admit there love it needed more banter more teasing not rushed ngl the author kinda did them dirty on this one had potential 😭😞😞
Totally forgot to read this first before book 1 lool oh well I cannot wait to start reading these short ones luckily there both 70 pgs / 200 pgs so can get them both done in a day! Cannot wait to find out more POVs on the hockey team 😈
Bite the Ice is a novella part of the Lakeshore U series, a hockey contemporary romance series I’ve had fun with! And in this one we get a second chance!
Ella swore off hockey players a long time ago, but her best friend convinces her to join a Halloween, Bite the Ice party with her, where the Lakeshore U hockey players are at. There she runs into Connor, the hockey player who broke her heart a couple years ago. Now Connor sees this as the perfect time to win back the girl he hurt back during freshman year!
This was just a quick, bite-size novella! Super fun seeing Connor and Ella in the past and then their second chance in present day too. This hockey series has been fun and this one was free on the author’s website for the audio and ebook!
This is just a taste of what’s to come from this group of hockey players and I can’t wait to see them all be taken down in a serious relationship. Each member has their own unique personalities that bring so much to the group and I’m here for them all. In this short story we get a second chance for Ella and Connor. A few years ago, Connor wasn’t ready for anything serious but in his determination to make a name for himself in the hockey world he ghosted Ella leaving her with a shattered heart, but now Connor has seen the error in his ways and wants his girl. Like I said this is just a taste, a hot steamy taste, of what’s to come at Lakeshore U and it’s going to be a fun ride.
But this guy—this gorgeous man—had broken my heart once. Maybe it was time to give him a chance to fix it.
4.25 stars!
This was a short and sexy introduction into this new series by the brilliant LA Cotton! I always love a new series by Lianne as she always promises to bring plenty of angst and romance, and this short novella brings both beautifully. I can't wait to get to know the rest of the players better as they reluctantly fall in love♡
Tropes: second chance romance, fling, the-one-that-got-away, playboy hero, shy heroine, hockey romance, band of brothers
Bite The Ice was such a great prequel to read! I really enjoyed the angsty vibes in this! I do enjoy these characters and the family-ish dynamic that they have. I think it is gonna be an interesting series with the other guys. I think these characters are easy to love and that is gonna help with drawing attention into this series. It is fun and I am such a fan of hockey romances already that I know I’m gonna be intrigued for this series!
"I fell for the Connor Morgan charm once before. I won't fall for it again."
This was a very sweet and quick second chance story and I really enjoyed it!!! It was the beginning of a new series from L.A. Cotton whom I know for sure will give us many beautiful rides with this crew!!! And the beauty of "Bite the ice" was that in only a handful chapters, we managed to receive a complete story that made impression...
Ella and Connor had history and they are about to meet again in the annual "Bite the ice" Halloween party... Ella knew that this was a bad decision, but she still went... and now, Connor is finding the perfect opportunity to win the girl of his dreams back, the one that he had hurt badly in the past... Will Ella give him a second chance or she will remain his only regret???
I really liked Ella and Connor... and I would really loved to see more of them!!! Their story even though very small, it was very satisfying and I can not wait for Lianne to give us more of these players!!!
Connor broke Ella's heart once before. She won't let it happen again. So Ella's been avoiding Connor for two years. That is until the annual Bite the Ice Halloween party at the Lakers House...
I'm slowing making my way into this series cause it's so good. First I listened to the audiobook for the second book (I got an Advanced Listening Copy) and I fell in love with the characters so I needed to read them all. And I thought I'd read this prequel novella next. I also got an Advanced Listening Copy for the third one so I'll listen to that one soon!
This novella was super good! It's a second chance romance and I loved it. It's short so it's a fast read but I fell in love with it anyway.
I really enjoyed it and I'm excited to read the rest of the books!
This was the perfect little intro into L. A. Cotton’s new college, hockey romance series. I loved these two together! I can’t wait to see more of them throughout the series and get to know all of Connor’s teammates.
I kind of wish this wasn’t just a novella. I wanted more of these two. To read about their first night and what happened right after and a bit of them pinning over each other.
Anyway, you can grab Bite the Ice for free on Amazon!

I've been in my " Hockey romance era " for the past week, to say that I'm OBSESSED with Lakeshore U series is an understatement. These Lakers boys own me. No exaggerating. No regrets.
🏒🏒𝔹𝕀𝕋𝔼 𝕋ℍ𝔼 𝕀ℂ𝔼🏒🏒
Did I love this? Yes , do I need more of " Con and Ella"? Was it the perfect introduction? YESSS. absolutely, and since second chance is one of my favorite tropes, I LOVED THE WAY Con was Adamant about getting his girl back , it was sweet. I wanted the first phase when " Connor " fucked up. ( He redeemed himself, nicely ❤️) I really hope Lianne has more of them in store for us because I loved them and really want more of them 🥰.
𝕋ℝ𝕆ℙ𝔼𝕊: 🏒 Second chance. 🏒 Halloween party. 🏒"The one who got away". 🏒 She's was a distraction 🙄. 🏒 Getting his girl back.
It was a sweet debut for this series and I I really enjoyed Connor and Ella’s story.
It was short but so cute and sweet at the same time.
I love Hockey romance, so I can’t wait to read the others books from this series and discover all of the others members of the hockey team. I’m sure it’ll be funny and it'll be all worth it.
The perfect introduction to L A Cottons newest series Lakeshore U!
Bite the Ice introduces us to all the personalities of the Lakeshore U hockey team and has gotten me so so excited for the rest of the books that this series has to come!! Especially book 1, which I've already started and I am already addicted to Aiden!!
Bite the Ice is a short novella telling the love story of Connor and Ella, it is a second chance romance, set in college! It is the perfect sample of what's to come!!
Damn the Lakers Boys are going to destroy hearts. The dynamics of the team and there banter is goals. I instantly know I'm going to devour this series as i do with all L.A Cotton books and series!
I LOVE that Connor knows what he wants and his mistakes. It makes such a change to read a possessive guy that owns up instantly for his mistakes. Incoming, El. Damn she is such a beautiful character and determined to stay away from Hockey players but her and Conners connection feels innate and meant to be.
This opening introduction to the series has made me even more excited to dive into this series when we can.
L.A Cotton has developed the characters so well in a short novella that you'll be drooling for more from these guys!
“my mom had insisted on drilling into me, you shouldn’t play with a girl’s heart unless you had plans to keep it.”
Quick, second chance, NA hockey romance prequel.
I love a good sports romance. The prequel doesn’t offer much insight into the college Lakers team, though the name was dropped repeatedly. This was based on events at a Halloween party and Connor and Ella reconnecting.
Too short really to get the usual feel I would from the author’s books.
I’m so freaking stoked for this series!! This is the prequel to the Lakeshore U series and I’m here for it. It’s a hockey romance series and I can not wait for the rest of these books. Gimmeee gimmmeee
I love Liane’s sports romances. They’re just awesome. Everything she writes is awesome actually. Very excited!
So so much telling verses showing. Whomp whomp. In this one we have a h who has been angry at the H for like two years because he took her virginity after dating her and then left her a break up note. I was so bummed out that we didn’t get to actually see this scene. We’re told why he did it but without seeing the scene it’s hard to connect with his panic and by hard, I mean impossible lol. They end up at the same party because she’s doing her friend a favor and he bulldozes her and admits he’s basically stalked her but again we don’t get to see these stalking scenes!! 🤦🏻♀️🥴 She dates someone else for four months and he lets it happen despite wanting her because “he wants her to have something for herself”. Umm, okay. A-muthaeffing-gain I would have liked to see this scene!! I wanted to feel his let down that he lost her to someone else! Especially since he didn’t go after her while she was dating. I wanted the the thought process behind all this waiting. We’re *told* that it’s because she avoids him and hates him but why should she have to come to him? He’s the one who messed up! Of course she would avoid you, dude! I’m not convinced that he wouldn’t have just waited forever for her if she had not showed up at the party.
So all in all not convincing and with all the telling verses showing you can’t even draw your own conclusions on the characters motivations. And most importantly there is no, none, zip, nada, angst despite this being an angsty set up!
