Great sci fi romantic adventure

The worldbuilding in this series is fantastic, believable, and inventive. The story is a character-driven tale of kindness, love, struggle, bigotry, and hope. I admit Maricel's fearfulness annoyed me at times, but this story's body count showed that Mars is not a safe planet. I am reading read this series out of order. Although Serenity follows Home to Blue Ridge and Diamond in the Rough chronologically, Redline and Skyreach are the first books in this series. At least I already know how those relationships turn out.
