Dream Lover by Louise Glass is a playful and imaginative urban paranormal romance that effortlessly blends steamy romance, witty humor, and a touch of the supernatural. This novel is a delightful journey through the lives of three best friends—Ali, Lizzie, and Suzanne—living in New York City, who find themselves navigating not only the ups and downs of romance but also unexpected encounters with ghosts, dreams, and visions of the future. Glass weaves a narrative that is equal parts intimate, hilarious, and heartwarming, making for a unique reading experience. At the core of Dream Lover is the strong bond of female friendship between the three protagonists. Ali, who discovers she has suddenly become psychic, hilariously helps her neurotic friend Lizzie avoid catastrophe, while Suzanne, the ever-hopeful romantic, finds herself grappling with life after death after picking the wrong man. The way these three women support each other through thick and thin is both touching and relatable, adding emotional depth to the novel's fantastical elements.
The novel’s paranormal twist comes in the form of ghosts, angels, and psychic abilities, which introduce a whole new set of challenges for the trio. Ali’s newfound psychic powers, coupled with the chaos of ghostly encounters, blur the line between the living and the afterlife, creating a world where anything seems possible. Glass's portrayal of the paranormal is light-hearted and fun, making it accessible to readers who may not usually gravitate toward the genre.
A standout character in Dream Lover is Fred, a mischievous Sulphur-crested cockatoo with an obsession for Cheez Doodles and a penchant for stealing the spotlight. Fred’s antics provide a consistent stream of humor throughout the novel, especially when he decides to “mate” with Ali and builds a nest for them, adding an endearing layer of absurdity to the story. His toddler-like behavior and sharp wit keep readers entertained and add a unique charm to the novel.
Despite the whimsical and often chaotic events, Dream Lover is a story that explores deep themes such as love, friendship, and the complexities of life and death. The romantic relationships in the novel are filled with passion, yet tempered by the humor and love that flows through every aspect of the story.
The novel’s exploration of the afterlife and supernatural elements—such as astral projection, ghosts wishing they were human again, and the potential for spirits to reincarnate—adds depth to the story. The paranormal aspects raise intriguing questions about the nature of existence, the boundaries between the living and the dead, and whether it’s possible for love to transcend those boundaries.
In conclusion, Dream Lover is a refreshing, fun, and heartfelt novel that will appeal to fans of romance and paranormal fiction alike. Louise Glass has crafted a story that is as thought-provoking as it is entertaining, filled with relatable characters, laugh-out-loud moments, and enough supernatural intrigue to keep readers turning the pages. Dream Lover,” book one in The Dream Lover Series by Louise Glass, is a suspenseful paranormal romance with a clever, original plot that is set in motion on the very first page. We are introduced to Fred the charismatic cockatoo as well, who figures into the plot quite effectively. Imagine a dream lover who comes to you to fulfill your deepest fantasies. Prepare yourself for spicy adult scenes, a contemporary setting in New York City, hanging out with three friends, and sharing laughs and good times.
We begin with Ali, but then get to know her friends Lizzie and Suzanne as well. Once you know these characters, the supernatural situations they find themselves in are intriguing and fun. Ali has a dream lover and psychic tendencies, Lizzie has an elevator phobia, and Suzanne finds herself in a life-after-death scenario. Fred has his part to play too and is very much the scene-stealer with his endearing personality.
Obviously a born storyteller, Glass brings you a ghost story you won’t see coming. The plot is intriguing and unpredictable, so you know almost anything can happen with these characters. In basic terms, you have two worlds that long to merge: The physical realm, and the afterlife. This story seeks to morph the two in an energetic way. Can ghosts become human? Where does astral projection come into the mix? This author excels at creating subplots that keep you invested until the end, and the good news is that this story may continue in a follow-up. This book has everything you’d want in a paranormal romance and more. It features irresistible, multi-faceted characters that feel like real people, a sense of humor, and surprises along the way. And for readers who expect some darkness in this storyline, you won’t be disappointed. The characters don’t always encounter sweetness and light. The dialogue sparkles, the friendships are enviable, the paranormal aspects are satisfying, and the ending is especially nice.
Here is one sample of the romance you will find:
“Do you give all your patients flowers and ask them to call you by your first name?” she asked.
That was a loaded question. Should Seth lie to Suzanne or tell her the truth? “You are the only patient I’ve ever sent flowers to, and I hope that’s all right with you.”
Suzanne’s emotions were overflowing. Seth made her feel safe. He was the kindest and most caring person she had ever met, and she felt happy, knowing that she was not just another patient
to him. That was the moment Suzanne made the most critical decision of her life. She was not going to let the past spoil her chance at happiness.
“It’s very all right with me,” she responded.
If you are looking for a supernatural romance novel that breaks the mold, “Dream Lover” from The Dream Lover Series by Louise Glass, is the one you’ve been looking for.
This story reminded me of “Sex in the City.” The dynamic trio of Ali, Lizzie, and Suzanne are relatable and engaging characters that I rooted for throughout the story. The addition of paranormal elements adds an exciting twist to the typical romance genre, making the plot even more intriguing.
Glass does a fantastic job of balancing the steamy romance scenes with the deeper emotional connections between the characters. Witty and realistic dialogues drew me into the story of these three friends as they navigate love, friendship, and the supernatural side of life.
While some scenes may feel rushed and choppy, the overall pacing of the book kept me engaged and eager to see what happens next. "Dream Lover" is a must-read for fans of paranormal romance looking for a fresh and exciting take on the genre.
The good: I did appreciate the nod and exposure to clairvoyance for normal folks. The character of the bird was hilarious.
The bad: the characters say each other’s names way too much. Like every sentence too much. I just couldn’t get into the writing here and it was rough to get through.
That said, I commend the author for taking an unusual approach to the genre. It was a unique concept and I’ll never judge anyone for trying.
There is so much I could say about this book but I will cut right to the chase! This book is honestly one of the best books I have read. 😍I will start by saying that the writing is exceptional. You can tell that Louise put her heart and soul into this book and made sure that the characters, plot, and details were superb. These three friends go through so much in this book. It really pulls you into their world and as a woman they experience so much together that most woman can relate to. Then you add in the paranormal side which enhances the story and gives it a whole other element of fascination. Talk about a book that pulls you in and don’t let go, this is it! I enjoyed reading this book so much. I loved all the characters but Fred had me the most intrigued.🥰 I loved the cockatoo. Just a brilliant idea to bring such a special character into a book. Dream Lover has the perfect amount of romance, humor, emotions, 🌶️ and other worldliness. I would defiantly recommend to anyone who would like to enjoy a great read.
Dream Lover, by Louise Glass, takes readers on an emotional journey with three best friends, Ali, Suzanne, and Lizzie, as they navigate love, tragedy, and significant life changes. Each woman experiences a whirlwind romance leading to a happy ending while facing unique challenges. Ali discovers her clairvoyant and empathic abilities, Suzanne grapples with loneliness that leads to a major tragedy, and Lizzie’s insecurities complicate her love life. Through it all, their unbreakable friendship helps them endure and thrive.
The novel stands out for its distinct narrative style with alternating perspectives among the three friends and even the men in their lives. While this approach adds depth, I feel it can occasionally be somewhat confusing, but the clear character voices help readers quickly adjust. Glass excels in crafting relatable, multidimensional characters. Ali, Suzanne, and Lizzie each possess unique insecurities and envies, reflecting the complexities of real female friendships. Their individual styles and quirks, including their beloved pets, add charm to the story. Ali’s cockatoo, Fred, is particularly delightful, bringing humor and warmth, while Suzanne’s cat, Precious, provides amusing moments with her dog-like behavior.
Glass's plot is engaging, with each character’s storyline contributing to a cohesive whole. I believe Ali’s rapid acceptance of her newfound abilities felt a bit rushed and feel a deeper exploration of her initial skepticism would have added realism. The balance of humor and steamy romance keeps the narrative lively. A standout moment is when Fred bites Ali’s partner, Steve, on his bare butt cheek, showcasing Glass’s knack for blending comedy with romance. Dream Lover offers a touch of the paranormal and leaves the storyline open to the potential for more in future installments. Readers are left curious about Suzanne’s sister and eager for further exploration of the supernatural elements.
Dream Lover is an enjoyable read, capturing the essence of female friendship and personal growth. With its memorable characters and engaging plot, it leaves readers looking forward to what comes next in the lives of Ali, Suzanne, and Lizzie.
Wholly unaccustomed to the genre of romantic fiction, from this book’s title I was anticipating what I imagined was something akin to a typical Mills & Boon confection, but with a little research I quickly discovered that the Mills & Boon books of today have moved far away from presenting tales of the coy and virtuous virgin assailed by suave and courageous suitors, which I had mistakenly expected. Dream Lover is, of course, not a Mills & Boon title, although it could quite happily rank amongst their more contemporary offerings when, from the first mention of the teasing of a clitoris, you’ll know that you’ve entered a different landscape to the one I had imagined. Even before then you will have encountered a precocious cockatoo that not only speaks but expresses logic, humour and empathy, which makes the subsequent introduction of a lover who can separate from his body and arrive in the narrator’s bed via the astral plane nothing extraordinary whatsoever! But this is, after all, the world of dreams. It is a world in which the pace with which events unfold with minimal preamble fits the unlikely spectacle of astral transport, and one ceases to question their plausibility, choosing instead just to sit back and enjoy the ride in a heady suspension of disbelief. And so the book moves forward breathlessly from start to finish. For the unaccustomed male reader of romance, the guileless female depiction of sex is revelatory, as is the dynamically observed relationships between the three friends, Ali, Lizzie and Suzanne. And that, I propose, is the real strength of the book. The spirited depiction of three women and their several escapades, particularly involving the imperfect men in their lives, is the bedrock on which this heady tale of relationships is built. Events sometimes seem almost preposterous but the women’s richly delineated characters draw one in with a compulsion to believe. This is a fun tale, never dull, giving romance that sense of balance between reality and fantasy that provides its allure. If, like me, you’ve never read romantic fiction, this is a good place to start.
Dream Lover by Louise Glass, is a funny, romantic, story about three friends. Think Sex and The City meets Friends meets Stranger Things. (There is a paranormal edge as well.) It has everything you could want in a romance. Plenty of spice, plenty of humor, plenty of romance, plenty mysterious other-worldly events… Ali finds herself having psychic premonitions. Looking for knowledge, she meets the love of her life, you might say her dream lover. When Lizzie gives up on men, she meets another loser. Or maybe he is not what he seems? Suzanne gave up on love a while ago. Focusing on her career helps her ignore her lack of a love life. Even though she has given up on love, she hasn’t given up men. Thankfully, the worst night of her life puts her back on the path towards love. These women have a wonderful friendship and as their lives twist and turn, they don’t let anything come between them. Even dreaming about a lover, every, single, night, won’t change their minds. When premonitions and ghosts become as much a part of their lives as nutty pets, these women just keep on going. I laughed out loud more than once. I cried, twice. I smiled with joy multiple times. The paranormal portions of the story are nothing short of fascinating. The author is obviously well versed in paranormal topics, she must have done years of research. Louise Glass describes everything so vividly I felt like I was right there with the characters. The scenery is beautifully portrayed, her knowledge of décor, fashion, and New York City, lends an authenticity to the story. I could picture everything so well; I think it would make a great movie! I heard the author is hard at work on the next book. I can’t wait to read it!
Dream Lover by Louise Glass is the first in a series of unique and exciting paranormal romances by the author of the Dream Lover series. Three best friends are trapped between their world and the supernatural when Ali suddenly becomes psychic and saves Lizzie from certain death. Her buildings elevator’s cables broke crushing the occupants inside. Ali’s psychic abilities grow and she’s having dreams about a man who fulfills all her desires but she wakes up each morning alone. Fred, Ali’s rescued young, bright, toddler-like verbose cockatoo is addicted to Cheez Doodles and demands affection. Fred brings much needed humor Dream Lover. Lizzie is filled with insecurities and when she meets her soulmate the reader wonders if they will get their act together or break up. Suzanne is the most trusting of the three young women and that’s almost her downfall. There’s one graphic scene involving her but it’s needed for the murder mystery that is a vital part of the storyline. The men are each unique and each relationship is different. You care about the characters who are three dimensional. Louise Glass must have done much research in the New Age Sciences to write Dream Lover. The afterlife is explored and in the book souls who passed are not always happy and miss their life. The book kept me intrigued and the epilogue was a shock but uplifted me and I look forward to reading the next book the author writes.
Dream Lover by Louise Glass has surpassed my expectations in all aspects. Romance, friendship between three long-time friends, and paranormal scenes add to the enjoyment of reading this author's first novel. Early in the novel, Ali sees her best friend in danger if she uses her elevator. Will Ali be able to stop an awful event from occurring? You will be drawn into multiple storylines that will leave you breathless. As an added extra, you will meet a verbose cockatoo named Fred. He loves cheese doodles and has an unbelievable vocabulary. Yes, he understands and speaks his mind. Overall, this is a read that you will find enjoyable and will leave you waiting for the next in the series.
Spirits and Spice This is a page-turning read that delivers spicy romance, suspense, and an intriguing blend of the paranormal. The outstanding world building and character development made this an engaging read. Ali, Lizzie, and Suzanne could not be more different, but that just makes their friendship richer and fuller. And the author masterfully defines the characters in an evocative way. The story has a playful nature to it that I enjoyed greatly. Enter Fred the Cockatoo. In a romance novel, yet! Love it! An entertaining read that hooked me in for the upcoming sequel. Romance readers will find this to be a uniquely wonderful read!
Louise Glass wrote a genre breaking standout book that gets better each time I read it. Dream Lover is the perfect mix of the paranormal, romance, mystery, and humor in the form of a lovable cockatoo. Her dialogues are some of the most realistic I have ever read; they are natural to the story and never forced. Finally, the ending had me spell bound; it was truly unique and has me wanting the next book in the series to come out as soon as possible. I cannot recommend the author Louise Glass enough.
Fast paced, filled with meaningful friendships, and a fascinating paranormal angle. Dream Lover delves into psychic ability, empaths, and a little bit of the after life while following a trio of friends and a very interesting collection of pets. I was totally absorbed in this book and seeing how these abilities played into solving a crime, finding your soul mate, and the after life. It's a great read that gets you a little philosophical and keeps you turning pages. And the cliff hanger...wow!
Wonderful story about three friends at various stages in their love lives. We see what each friend goes through trying to find happiness. The paranormal aspect is fascinating, this author knows her stuff. The amount of knowledge, research, and experience come through in a magical love story that travels through a realm that was completely new to me. I loved it! Imagine Sex and the City meets Stranger Things. I've never read anything like it before and I can't wait to read the next one. This book was hard to put down and I didn't want it to ever end. Can't recommend it enough!
Dream Lover is a fun, fast paced paranormal romance that includes plenty of suspense and twists that make you want to keep reading. And let’s not forget love scenes which were slightly less spicy than I’m accustomed to reading in my paranormal romance novels, but were still very well written. I would recommend to anyone looking for a fun weekend read. Looking forward to the next installment!
